DaMMratter we discovered a demo of his new project, "Khiri the Killing Machine", a shoot Em Up, which is in its infancy.
Quote:
Hi all. I finally thought to upload a demo of my second project. I intend to do a Gradius clone, with some modifications.
Controls are pad to move, and A to shoot.
By now, collisions affect only to enemies (flys) but not to Khiri.
I have only used by top screen now, because i have other purposes for bottom screen.
Hope you like it! I upload some screenshots and the rom.
See you all!

Steve Corey posted this news:
Yes, I'm still alive and keeping an eye on the homebrew scene, more recently lately...
I got this question in my email and wanted to answer it publicly, since it's a very good question, and one I asked myself midway through WiiDoom:
"...i was under the impression that the same engine was used for the Hexen/Heretic games but when i try and add those wad files they dont even read. i was wondering if this would be a pain to ask for or if not, would you know someone who would be able to work in a compaitibility or new wii homebrew that would allow us to play these old games as well..."
Here's the thing about the Doom engine, as it relates to Doom,Hexen, and Heretic. This is going on memory, but it's still somewhat fresh in my brain LOL.
The Doom engine was somewhat tailored to the game it was packaged with (i.e. Doom, Heretic, Hexen) and the engine will look for the specific IWADs, as well as checking the IWAD once it opens them to look at the header. It *really* gets the version of Doom (I, II, Final, Ultimate) from the header, and turns on various features based on that. It seems that with each new game id software made, they enhanced the engine, adding better special FX.
It's very easy to add the checks for the other games (Hexen, Heretic), but then the various features that need to be enabled have to be added as well. I think it was Hexen that had some special things like the fog. The fog effect would have to be added, which would touch quite a number of files (probably the r_* files). ZDoom and a few other 3rd party engines had done this, so I know it's possible, it's just not a very easy thing to do. It is much easier (and cleaner) to port the individual engines over. I looked into porting hexen over, and was messing around with that before I basically ran out of time to work on homebrew. I'd REALLY love to do that again.
If anyone else has a question, let me know. I'm not saying that I'm resuming development (yet), but I am really considering it once another side project of mine is finished.

NaturalMotion, the animation technology company behind the euphoria engine, today announced that morpheme, the company's animation engine and graphical authoring tool, is being used in Activision Publishing, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) upcoming Tony Hawk: RIDE, developed by Chicago-based Robomodo.
morpheme is robust animation middleware designed to give developers and animators unprecedented creative control over the look of their final in-game animation by allowing them to author and preview blends, blend trees and transition graphs in real time.
"Tony Hawk: RIDE's groundbreaking skateboard controller offers gamers a uniquely realistic experience," said Christian Staack, Vice President of Sales for North America at NaturalMotion. "morpheme will allow Robomodo to match that standard of realism in their character animations, recreating the exhilarating thrills and painful spills of real skateboarding to the high degree of accuracy required for such an innovative game."
Tony Hawk: RIDE is in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. A version for the Wii home videogame system, also utilising morpheme, is being developed by Buzz Monkey Software. All three versions are to be published by Activision Publishing, Inc. later this year.
About NaturalMotion

Want to download and watch Batman Begins, Contact, Last Samurai and 2001: A Space Odyssey on your Wii? You can! If you're in Japan.
Fujisoft, makers of the Everyone's Theater Wii service for the Japanese Wii, announced today a tie-up with Warner Entertainment Japan and Warner Brothers Digital Distribution that will make a bunch of Warner hits available for digital rental on the Wii. Fifty-four movies will be available starting tomorrow (July 15), priced at the service's standard rental price of 300 WiiPoints for 48 hours.
Outside of the above, the lineup includes Goonies, Free Willy and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. More titles will follow following the initial batch.
Everyone's Theater Wii is a WiiWare-based video-on-demand service. To use the service, Wii owners must download a 500 WiiPoint viewing app. They then gain access to a growing library of anime, television dramas and, most recently, movies. The videos stream in DVD quality.
While many of the Warner titles are older, there's one exception. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button arrives on the download service simultaneously with the start of Japanese DVD and Blu-ray sales and rentals. Fujisoft said to expect more new releases from Warner in the future.
This service is Japan-only at the moment. But at the very least, it makes it clear that video on demand can be done on the Wii.

Sega has another countdown and it looks like it’s related to the meta-platformer Pole’s Big Adventure. What’s neat about this teaser site is Sega wants readers to guess the games’ genre and what platform it’s coming out for.
Currently, poll respondents think the upcoming project is heading to WiiWare. PlayStation 3 is in second place and DSiWare lags in third.
What kind of game will it be? Action, according to the poll. Sports is in second place (perhaps because the first two katakana could be an abbreviation sports), and RPG takes third.
Most users also think it’s going to be a baka game or stupid game. Parody trails in second and, strangely, love is a close third.
We’ll find out what the project is in ten days, if Famitsu or another magazine doesn’t reveal it first.

Conanac has released Turnip v0.1.
Summary
This is a simple application based on the Animal Crossing City Folk (ACCF) game, and it provides a player with:
1. Information of turnip prices for the week (Sunday morning to Saturday afternoon in that corresponding week)
2. A derived or add-on game (a game that some or all of its inputs come from other game data) which uses those turnip prices information
How to get price information
Before running this application, you need to save your ACCF gamesave file into your SD card in the directory /WIiSAVES/RUUE and name it as RVFOREST.DAT. If you use Waninkoko's Savegame Extractor v2.0 homebrew application, you will automatically have such a combination of directory and file names in your SD card.
For those who have and play ACCF game, when deciding to buy white turnips from Joan (the turnips peddler) on Sunday morning (from 6am to 12pm), it is always of interest to know or predict at what prices Nook will buy white turnips on the following weekdays (from Monday to Saturday) since those turnips will get rotten if they are kept after Saturday. This application could provide that information at any time during the week by saving the ACCF game after 6am Sunday morning and extracting its gamesave file to the above location. Clearly, the prices information is constant for the whole week and only reset on the next Sunday morning.
This application cannot change those turnip prices. Modifying the content of a gamesave file may require the recalculation of checksum bytes. And if it is not done properly, the file could be corrupted and cannot be used again after reinstalling it back.

Goichi Suda breaks the hearts of countless Wii owners, suggesting that once No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is finished, the franchise will leave the platform behind.
While No More Heroes and its star Travis Touchdown have captured the hearts of many fans on the Nintendo Wii, Suda's ambition might just be too big for the platform. Once the sequel hits store shelves in early 2010, it could be curtains for the Wii franchise.
"I think ['No More Heroes 2'] is the last ‘NMH' that is going to be developed on the Wii. To expand ‘NMH' to new possibilities, we need a new platform. Wii is a great platform, but we've done everything we can with it now."
While disappointing news for Wii owners, it is a move that makes sound business sense. Despite an excellent reception, the first No More Heroes didn't exactly fly off store shelves. One would imagine that a mature title with the charm of NMH would do amazingly well on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or even the iPhone.
Where would you folks like to see No More Heroes go next?

Apparently, Ubisoft is making a Where’s Waldo? game and it’s coming to the Nintendo DS. The ESRB rated Where’s Waldo? The Fantastic Journey, which uses the same title as a picture book.
Details about the game, courtesy of the ESRB description.
This is a puzzle game, based on the Where’s Waldo? series of children’s books, in which players search for Waldo in a series of elaborately complex images. Players must scan through pictures of fire-breathing creatures, magic carpet riders, knights in battle, red monks fighting blue monks, wizards, and (of course) vampires. In one scene, a group of soldiers is seen lying on the ground after battle, with “dizzy stars” swirling above their heads. In another image, several vampires hold mugs filled with “red liquid” (implied to be blood) while waiters bring them more of the red beverage.
Scanning pictures of fire-breathing creatures? Sounds like a classic Where’s Waldo book adapted for the Nintendo DS.

Today brings six new downloadable titles for Nintendo's various digital delivery platforms, including the release of a rare classic, the ultimate ant farm, and a completely different sort of bit tripping.
Virtual Console fans get a rare treat this week with the release of Pulseman (900 Wii points), a platform title often considered the best looking game ever created for the Sega Genesis. Pulseman was only released in cartridge form in Japan, only seeing the light of day in North America as an exclusive to the Sega Channel, Sega's short-lived, cable-television game delivery service. It's joined by the Sega Master System's Secret Command (600 Wii points), which U.S. fans might know better as Rambo: First Blood II.
WiiWare gets the bulk of the love this week, with three titles compared to the two Virtual Console titles and solo DSiWare offering. It gets the most unnecessary exclamation points as well, with JV Games tank shooter Incoming! (500 Wii Points) and Bplus' Bit Boy!! (600 Wii points) sharing three between them. Konami's ant-torturing simulator Ant Nation (700 Wii points) is sadly lacking punctuation, so from now on we'll be calling it Ant!! Nation!!.
Finally we have Brain Challenge from Gameloft for DSiWare (800 DSi points), which features 48 mini-games to help keep your brain from turning to mush.
As always, check out the official descriptions below to help you make informed purchasing decisions, or ignore them completely and go crazy.
