While gamers will have had no problem getting hold of a PlayStation 3 over the console's European launch weekend, it is a different story for those searching to buy a Nintendo Wii.
The Wii was launched in Europe on December 8, with Nintendo promising in a statement that it would "maximise all resources for a repaid replenishment program to consistently pump Wii consoles into the supply pipeline." Right now, in both the US and the UK, however, it seems consumers have to move quickly to find one.
The only outlets where customers could easily get hold of a Wii seemed to be auction Web site eBay, where the console is currently selling at an average price of £200 (RRP £179), and the Amazon Marketplace. Retailers--including GameStation, Play.com, Amazon UK, and Game--were all out of stock at the time of going to press, according to online stock-checking sites.
A Nintendo spokesperson told GameSpot that the company has indeed been making regular shipments of the console since its launch, although he declined to give figures. He said, "It is still very much the case that regular shipments of Wii are being made to retailers across the UK and have been since launch. It's simply a fact that demand remains incredibly high for Wii with some retailers reporting higher interest now than at launch. Every unit we make right now is selling."
He urged those wishing to buy a Wii to "not give up" and to try using sites such as Yahoo, which have search functions to check stock levels at a variety of stores.

Juiced 2 project lead Richard Badger believes that the porting approach taken by some racing games is unsuitable for Wii, and has told Eurogamer that this is the reason his game won't be appearing on the Nintendo format.
"If I was doing a Juiced on the Wii, I would look at what the Wii's all about," Badger told Eurogamer at a recent press event. "I don't want to play Need for Speed: Carbon on the Wii, though I'll happily play it on PS3 or 360. For the Wii version, I'd want something different," he explained.
Ooh, but is that a sly hint of something else in development? "No," said THQ, when we asked them. Spoilsports. They wouldn't rule out the possibility of a future Wii project in the Juiced series, but for the moment there's certainly nothing to announce.

Avid VC punters don't have much to get excited about this week, with the only game uploaded to the US Wii Shop being an obscure Chinese-themed strategy game called Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire.
You take control of a Chinese commander and do battle in this strategy war game with the aim of uniting three kingdoms.
Sounding a bit like Advance Wars or Fire Emblem, you control a range of different units, each with their own abilities.
Now, we don't expect grade-A games on the Virtual Console every single week, but given that this is the FOURTH game in a series we've never even heard of, you'll be forgiven if you don't jump with joy this week.
Hopefully, the UK update coming this Friday will have something a little more appealing.

The Dream Neko is a 2D platform-come-puzzle game that puts you in control of Neko, the lead character who can morph into different forms to gain new abilities.
Neko is a kitten that apparently has a fascination for humans, and their ability to eat anything they want and travel fast using machines (bare with us).
One day while resting in the forest Neko is woken by a strange flash of light only to find that he's been turned into a human (exciting, isn't it?). Of course, this paves the way for his adventure that spans six worlds as he tries to re-discover his lot identity, solving puzzles and purchasing weapons with coins he finds.

Spider Man 3 on Wii could be special - it will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to let you control Spidey's arms as he swings through the streets of New York.
Controlling each arm individually, you will flick the Nunchuk and press a button to swing on Spidey's left arm, and do the same with the Remote for his right arm.
The video demonstration over on gameinvasion.com shows the controls in action as well as a brief description of how the combat system will work alongside some of the first in-game footage.
Spider-Man 3 is due out on Wii, DS, GBA, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP and 360 in May.

I've taken my sweet time so sorry about that (student exchange with sweden meant I wasn't around when the sample arrived) but here it is, my WiiKey review . A big thank you to Mod-chip.com and the WiiKey team for providing me with samples!
"....As I stated earlier I used a wired install. This is something that is very easy with the WiiKey. The WiiKey team have apparently learned from other people's flaws that you should also include big solder pads on the modchip itself to support for a wired install. Because of this the WiiKey is equipped with nice big solderpads to which you can easily attach wires. To be frank, the installation on my module was a breeze...."

This week lacks the incredible quantities of excitement last week's releases provided, instead offering gamers only a pair of titles to greet them as they make their way over to the Wii section in their store of choice. While one title can most likely be written off as a poor movie tie-in, the other title could perhaps offer something of value to said gamer:
- Medal of Honor: Vanguard
- Meet the Robinsons
Anyone looking forward to shooting a couple of nazis in the face and/or meeting these "Robinsons?"

archeide posted a new release of his excellent Snes emulator for the Nintendo DS:
Heres the info.
This time, after sound and CPU, the big update is on graphics side! The graphics engine has been entirely rewritten and should offer a much better look for most games (especially RPG like Chrono Trigger)!
This alpha version also integrate a new configuration file, that allow you to choose the best options for each game.
New GFX engine that support tile address alteration (For RPG games and others)
Faster HDMA (Makes games like Chrono Trigger faster)
Much better line by line engine, which is now the default (Old tile mode is nearly broken in this alpha)
Better transparency support
Other GFX updates: Moved sprites 1 pixel down, Background color alteration by scanlines, fixed 16px tiles flip, better mode 5, better scrolling, new squish method…
Added configuration file support snemul.cfg (no saving support yet in this alpha) that allow specific configuration for each game.
And Thanks to Lestat for making the nice SNEmulDS Icon!
Please take a look in the configuration file, you can change the ROMs directory and other interesting stuff.

Spectrum Emulator for the DS updated again
Heres whats new:
! BIT instructions now set the undocumented flags 5 and 3 properly, with the sole exception of BIT n,(HL), as MEMPTR is intentionally not emulated. These flags were always set before, due incorrect documentation.
+ Instructions IN[ID]® and OUT[ID]® now also set the PV flag.
! Instructions OUT[ID]® now set the CY and HC flags correctly. They used the IN[ID]® behavior before, due incorrect documentation.
= So ZXDS now passes both ZEXDOC and ZEXALL (sans BIT n,(HL) in the latter).

Hello all
As the DLDI interface means I can now load external files (hoorah! cheers Chishm) I've finally done some updates to DS81, the ZX81 emulator.
It now supports some hi-res games and includes a basic file selector for lazy typists who have short-memories for file names. There is even a simple machine code monitor so you can look all wind-swept and interesting on the bus to work as you watch Z80 opcodes scroll up the screen.
You can grab the files from the DS81 page here:
http://www.noddybox.co.uk/nds.php?I=ds81
Have fun.

The Nintendo Wii is an awesome console with a control system that has brought non gamers from all walks of life to play on the console, most notably on games like Wii Sports.
The Virtual Console is an emulation and retro gamers dream the ability to play Snes, Nintendo 64, Nes, Genesis and Turbografx games on the console brings a whole new era of gaming to the new console owners of today.
The one downside is the cost of the games and the waiting for your favourite game to release, it could take years or forever to see the games you want.
Spread the Word
Heres where the Emulation Scene comes in.
With the release of the SD Homebrew Launcher for Nintendo Wii (Gamecube too) you now have a much easier way to try out games.
We cant tell you where to obtain Commercial roms, but we can tell you where to get emulators of the following consoles.
Snes
Nes
GameboyGameboy Advance
NeoGeo CD
Genesis
Master System
MAME - Arcade
Turbografx16
The list of systems emulated is impressive and apart from the initial cost of the SD Homebrew Launcher you then have a free and relatively easy to use and reuse Unnofficial Virtual Console for the Wii.
Most emulators are as easy to use as putting the dol file on the memory card with a few roms and then your off.
So to all you Nintendo Wii Owners who are fed up of waiting for your favourite releases, this Unnoficial Virtual Console is a must.

SEGA of America recently announced that three titles from its SEGA Genesis library, Virtua Fighter 2, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle and Wonder Boy in Monster World, would soon be available for download on the Wii Shop Channel. SEGA Genesis titles are priced from 800 Wii Points.
“The Wii Shop Channel continues to be a great avenue for gamers who want instant access to classic SEGA Genesis titles,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America. “Virtua Fighter 2, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, and Wonder Boy in Monster World, are all great titles that were popular hits in their day and now have a second life via Wii’s Virtual Console.”
Here are SEGA’s descriptions of the games:
Virtua Fighter 2
Virtua Fighter was the first 3D fighting game in the industry and introduced eight unique characters, each with their own martial arts style. In Virtua Fighter 2, the intrepid fighters return to the World Fighting Tournament. Take to the stage to see who will claim the championship title; will it be Lau Chan, Kage Maru, Wolf Hawkfield, Jeffry McWild, Akira Yuki, Jacky Bryant, Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan.
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
This classic title features Alex Kidd! Alex had given up hope that his kidnapped father, King Thor, would return to the kingdom on Planet Aries. When the news arrived that he was very much alive and being held captive on the planet Paperock, Alex raced to his rescue. Throughout 11 levels, players will battle enemies and avoid obstacles while winning coins that will buy you special items and vehicles. At the end of each level, players will encounter a boss and enter into a match of “Paper, Scissors, Rock.” Throw the right symbols and you’ll be ever closer to bringing King Thor home; throw the wrong symbols and you’ll be squashed beneath a heavy weight.
Wonder Boy in Monster World
Monster World was a peaceful, happy place until one dark day when an army of BioMeka monsters invaded. Playing as a young man named Shion, gamers vow to defeat the hostile foes and make the land peaceful again. Attack enemies with swords and spears and guard against incoming projectiles with shields and armor. Travel through the many different regions of Monster World and talk to the townspeople, collect money to buy items, and gather a large variety of weapons and magic. As players progress, the weapons and equipment become more powerful, including suits of armor and boots.

Website Tokyo Times took a trip to Japan's nerd gamer nirvana town, Akihabara and snapped a bunch of photos of the various gaming knicks and knacks for sale. The one that stood out the most for me was this awesome Super Mario Brothers wall clock. It's a bit hard to see in this photo, but the face is an underwater scene featuring a Blooper and a Cheep-Cheep along with the requisite Mario bricks and a second hand made to look like a flame bar.
