New for Nintendo Wii

Earn respect and climb the ranks with the Tiger Challenge in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07. The top-selling golf video game franchise is packed with new content, including 18 championship courses and 35 pro and fantasy golfers. Use the cutting edge Wii Remote to swing the clubs like the pros.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 puts you on the course like never before. When you swing the Wii Remote like a golf club, your on-screen persona replicates your stroke. If you swing conservatively, so will your golfer. If you swing aggressively and shank the ball, your golfer will do the same.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 does a wonderful job of putting you in the video game golfer's shoes. You'll want to address the ball as you would on a real golf course and think about the types of shots you want to hit, just like in real life. Or you could stand there, grip it and rip it (like you might do in real life).

First Peter Moore praises the thing (and even tries to adopt Nintendo's business strategy) and now Sony jumps on the bandwagon too? Looks like Sony's Chairman CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, is smitten with the system, as he lets his real feelings out during an interview on the show CEO Exchange. We're told the show hasn't aired yet, and frankly, we kind of wonder if it actually even exists.
Regardless, it seems like publicly praising Nintendo for the Wii is becoming a pastime, as all are stepping up to claim their love. We couldn't be happier, because if Sony and Microsoft fanboys are paying attention to what the execs at the top of their favorite companies are saying, they'll perhaps be persuaded to get a Wii of their own. Let's hope that's the case.

The genre-bending puzzle/RPG game for the Nintendo DS and PSP, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, hits store shelves tomorrow. Developer Infinite Interactive couldn't contain their excitement, so they released a PC demo of the game to make sure everyone was as giddy as they are.
Puzzle Quest is a cross between a casual tile-swapping puzzle game and a classic CRPG. You choose a character and explore a fantasy kingdom where you go on quests, shop for items, and manage a host of spells and statistics. Engaging in battle is a different story. Instead of slapping each other with pieces of sharp metal, Puzzle Quest uses the familiar Bejeweled formula. Swap tiles and make matches to gather mana points for spells, earn experience, and damage the enemy. You and your opponent take turns moving tiles, so quite a bit of strategy is needed to balance offensive and defensive postures.
Infinite Interactive is trying to bridge the gap between casual and hardcore gamers with a game that's easy to play in short bursts but can hold you for longer periods of time. The demo shows promise, but it's not without its faults. Does Puzzle Quest have what it takes to make both casual and hardcore players swoon?

Nintendo has dismissed reports that it's going to release an external hard disk drive for the Wii so that people can transfer some of their stuff off the machine's internal flash drive, but it has confirmed that the DS is about to get a voice communication headset.
.
Japanese magazine Gamelabo claimed that Nintendo Japan executives had met recently to discuss the hard disk drive, but Nintendo UK told our sister site GamesIndustry.biz that that's "pure rumour and speculation".
External storage is handy for Wii owners who like to buy games via Virtual Console, as the 512MB internal drive can quickly fill up. At the moment, users can invest in an SD flash-card to help store some of their software and save-game files away from the main system.
Meanwhile, Nintendo told gi.biz that reports Pokémon Diamond and Pearl will be released alongside a headset peripheral for online voice chat when they arrive in the US next month were true.
The company couldn't confirm plans for a European headset release, but it seems highly likely we'll see one when the games go on sale later this year..

Koei's revealed more information about its exclusive Wii title Opoona, which will be a "lifestyle RPG" due for release in Japan this summer.
The game is in development at ArtePiazza, the team behind the artwork on the Dragon Quest games, and is set in a "fusion of modern design and fantasy".
You play as Opoona, descendant of the Cosmo Guard - brave warriors who strive to maintain peace. On a visit to Landroll he becomes separated from his family. His brother and sister go missing and his parents wind up in hospital, and it's up to you to find out why.
In order to investigate further you'll have to travel across the galaxy, from colony to colony. In order to do this you'll need a licence so that you can get a job. Your initial options will be either an idol, rescuer or detective.
However, once you start evolving relationships with other characters and completing duties, your Tamodachi Level will increase, expanding your options. Soon a much broader range of activities will open up, presenting new activities, adventures and jobs before you.
The other area Opoona hopes to succeed is in combat, by using its Active Bonbon Battle system. You see, Opoona has an Energy Bonbon floating above his head like a hovering ball, and its this you fling at enemies by snapping the Nunchuck.
Once you acquire a target, the bonbon will lock on and attack without fail, making it easy for beginners. However, the real skill comes in when you manipulate the trajectory of the bonbon, fiddling with it in strategic ways to gain multi-attacks.
You'll also be able to play as both Opoona's bonbon-flinging brother and sister, Copoona and Poleena, and the whole game is playable using just the Nunchuck.
As your adventure furthers you'll meet up with Chaica, a skillful fighter useful in your battle against the Dark Rogues. You'll also be able to go shopping for rare collectables, something to show your friends at gatherings, we suppose.

It's Monday again, and that means more retro love implanted directly from Nintendo into your brain via the Wii Virtual Console. This week's announcements may not be amazingly surprising (we knew all three of the games were on the way), but there's still some decent retro gaming for your buck.
Released early this morning on Wii's Shop Channel are NES's classic Excite Bike, SEGA's Beyond Oasis for the SEGA Genesis (a healthy mix of Zelda and Aladdin), and the kill-fest Splatterhouse for TurboGrafx 16. Each game lands at the expected system price, with Beyond Oasis at 800 points ($8), Excite Bike at 500 ($5), and Splatterhouse at 600 ($6).

Beyond Oasis: A healthy mix of Zelda and Aladdin.
But before you go downloading straight-away, we've found an odd glitch on Wii's Virtual Console that you'll have to work around. For whatever reason, Exicte Bike isn't listed at the top of the "Newest Additions" folder, so you'll need to either go to the second page to find it, or look in the NES folder in the system-specific list. Between Excite Bike, Splatterhouse, and Beyond Oasis (all three fan-favorites on their respective systems) there's a healthy dose of gaming that should last you well through Wii's next rush of titles which - as a matter of fact - comes tomorrow.

Classic NES puzzle game Mario & Yoshi, and arcade hit Shadow Warriors, look set to hit the online Virtual Console retro game download service on Wii.
According to aussie-nintendo.com, both games have been rated by the Office of Film and Literature Classification.
The ESRB website, which disclosed rated games for America, has in the past exposed incoming titles, some well ahead of their eventual release, other that still haven't turned up.
Either way, if these games are secured for Australia it's a safe bet they'll appear here in UK too, with both regions having almost identical VC release schedules.
CVG is awaiting comment from Nintendo.

The latest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine UK promises a world exclusive on its Next Month pages, with a starry-night image that appears to hint at that exclusive being a new NiGHTS game.
The image contains stars that appear to form an outline of artwork from the original NiGHTS game on Sega Saturn, which fits perfectly.
The clever mock-up of the pages in question, with the artwork superimposed over it, was put together by a NEOGAF forum user.
In a recent statement, ONM Editor Chandra Nair said: "Please take a deep breath and count to ten when you're thinking about this. There are quite a few images that perfectly fit into that star cluster." He also promised that it was not an April Fools joke.
We've have been prodding the ONM staff - who are based in the same office as CVG - with a giant stick for confirmation but they're remaining tight-lipped.
Sega UK were also not available for comment at the time of writing, but with NiGHTS having been rumoured for Wii for a while a return for the franchise is looking hopeful.
