Sounds generic, doesn't it? "We're pleased to announced the new (insert World War II title here) for the Nintendo Wii. It will feature new ground-breaking motion controls and deliver an unparalleled sense of interactivity. 'We're pleased to bring our exciting new title to the Nintendo Wii,' says overpaid PR guy. 'World War II is so totally cool."
Yes, the latest May issue of Nintendo Power has confirmed the earlier suspicion that Brother in Arms: Double Time is coming to the Wii, and we have to admit, it has one sorta-maybe-kinda-cool feature: using motion control to direct teammates in tactical situations. However, if this isn't perfectly implemented, it'll cause more strain than its worth. "No, to the left, dammit, the ... FRACK!"

New for Wii:
Fishing games have been popular for years. With Nintendo's Wii™ console and its remote however, the genre gets a new feeling. If you have played Zelda on Wii™ and enjoyed the fishing side games, you might wanna pick up this title. In Mezase!! Tsuri Master, you are using your Wii™ remote as your rod, while the nunchuk performs as your reel. The game supports 4 player multi-play.

Pocket Gamer recently spoke with Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam developer Vicarious Visions about the DS and how it does 3D graphics. When the system is working in 2D mode, it uses what amounts to souped-up version of the Game Boy Advance hardware. Switch to 3D, however, and the DS comes alive with a throughput of 122,800 polygons per second. Sure, it's nothing compared to the PSP and its 33 million polygons per second, but Vicarious says it isn't about packing polygons on the screen, it's how you use the hardware. A little creativity can go a long way, just look at their DS library for some nice examples.
When the DS launched facing competition from Sony's PSP, there were more than a few skeptics. Can such an underpowered system hold its own against the big-screened powerhouse? It's been more than two years and Nintendo has yet to let up with their "system specs aren't everything" mantra. And maybe, just maybe, we're starting to believe them.

Never let it be said that a console war doesn't benefit the consumer -- for the goldmine of quotes, if nothing else. This latest one is from John Rodman, group product manager for the Xbox platform and Xbox Live, who was talking up the Xbox 360 in a New York Times article of all places. "We don't feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing," he said. "We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14 they want something else." Oh snap! Finally the truth comes out. We were getting a bit tired of all those backhanded praises Sony and Microsoft have been showering on the Wii, since it's not the "competition." Seems like it's worth Rodman's time to pay it such a diss (not that we have anything against sub-14 year olds, but let's be honest here) and there's no doubt the Wii is more of a threat to Sony and Microsoft than they'll ever admit.

In the second announcement of the day, DOA dev Tecmo has revealed that its excellent slash-em-up series Ninja Gaiden is heading to DS, reports Famitsu.
Interestingly, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (another excellent use of the DS initials) has the player holding the console in a vertical manor ala Brain Training, for a more forward-looking view of the action.
Events play out in a 3D top-down view and the whole game is played using just the DS stylus. Other than that we can't really pull much information from the Famitsu article (Mike needs more Japanese lessons), but we'll let you know when more info surfaces from the Far East.

SoftDev has released a new version of his NeoGeo CD emulator for the Nintendo Wii/GameCube. .
Heres What's New
* More FIX memory corrections. Fixes KOF99 load screens in particular.
* CDDA command interpreter updated.
* Streams interface initialised to clean position.
* SDLoad reload added as Z from in game menu.
* Full loading screen support - finally!
* New GC audio mixer and 'The EQ Cookbook'
* Audio and region options added to Option Menu
* ISO parsing corrections for multi-level directories
* Correction of FIX memory uploads
* Sprite banking restricted (KOF 99)
* Samurai Spirits RPG patch removed. No longer needed.
* Startup.bin removed. Data is now populated by BIOS load.
You'll notice that the initial load time is a little longer, and that BIOS runs before each and every game. This is the only way to unlock the loading sequence screens in the correct order. I hope you agree it's worth the wait! They certainly add to the overall experience.

Simonjhall the coder behind the port of Quake to the Nintendo DS, has posted screenshots a video and news of his work on porting Quake 2 to the Nintendo DS:
SPREAD THIS NEWS
Heres the screens first
Heres the news and Video Link:
I've finally got Quake2 properly running on the DS and I thought I'd post a quick (and crappy) YouTube video. I am still getting Q1 pre2 ready, it's just that I wanted to take a break!
Anyway, linky: (will be up in a few mins)
In case you're worried, this is exactly the same kind of performance that I had when I first had Q1's software renderer running on the DS. However, I'm still not confident that similar performance can be obtained with this game - there's just too much strain on the system this time.
This is more of a proof-of-concept, showing that a full-blown game can be run of the extended RAM provided by slot-2 solutions. Yeah, I know all about the 8-bit write problem :-)
Kinda worried about properly working on this game though, as Q1 has pretty much taken my free time for the last five months!
Comments? ;-)

New from Lick:
After the messy libcartreset and messed up libreset, I now present you rebootlib. It is basically a total rewrite of libcartreset, trying to keep the source as clean as possible. Do note that rebootlib requires DevKitARM r20. If you feel the need to use rebootlib with earlier releases, you are free to modify it, as long as you respect the GPL license.
Supported devices
MPCF/MPSD
M3CF/M3SD
SCCF/SCSD/SCLT
EFA2
EZ4
G6 (thx to Puyo)
DS Link
If you plan to add support for other devices, please respect the GPL license and share the modified source.
How to implement
Include all the rebootlib files to your project. Refer to the example project for implementation.
P.S. I am planning to add .nds booting in the near future.

via Nintendo Wii Fanboy
For those of you who have yet to find a Wii, we have potentially good news! Or a totally mean waste of your time. We don't really know.
Tipster Memnoch tells us he saw a handwritten sign in a Wal-Mart electronics department in Fairfax, VA telling employees to hold Wii shipments for April 1st, when a new advertising circular would announce their availability.
Our readers have yet to lead us astray with these shipment tips, but we aren't 100% sure about it. It's not that we don't trust Memnoch-- it would just be foolish to take a rumor involving April 1st at face value. Hence the more skeptical, pensive Matthew Lesko. Good luck if you check this out!

Reports are coming in from Taiwan and Germany that Nintendo has updated the Wii's motherboard with its latest shipments of the console. According to .MaxConsole. one of the solder points has been removed from the altered board, shutting out quicksolder modification chips like WiiKey. Other similar tools that don't use the missing solder point should not be affected.
DigiTimes suggests that these changes to the circuit layout were made with the sole intent of preventing piracy by blocking these warranty-voiding installations. If that's the case however, why did Nintendo only take steps to block just the WiiKey, a modchip that was released only several weeks ago?
There were similar concerns in the past about Mario Kart DS updating the Nintendo DS' firmware as an anti-piracy measure, but it was quickly discovered that the handheld was only saving its WiFi settings. It seems far more likely that Nintendo has had the Wii's revised motherboard planned for months, and that locking out any modification methods was an unintended result.

They love that PS3, but it doesn't mean the Brits are turning their back on the Wii. Still a bit miffed that four months after launch they still can't get their hands on one, British customers are getting upset. Teary, even.
Cheer up lads! Where's that stiff upper lip? Nintendo are saying everything's going to be OK:
It is still very much the case that regular shipments of Wii are being made to retailers across the UK and have been since launch. It's simply a fact that demand remains incredibly high for Wii with some retailers reporting higher interest now than at launch. Every unit we make right now is selling.
I'm sure it is. So feel free to go right ahead and make more of them. It's March already.

No more rumors. No more speculation. Swedish videogame mag GameReactor has released a teaser image of their upcoming April issue—they're quite serious, mind you—featuring their "exklusivt!" reveal of Sega's sequel to the Saturn classic NiGHTS Into Dreams. Funny that they don't actually mention the hardware platform, isn't it? Still, the fact that the Official Nintendo Magazine in the UK is running their NiGHTS issue soon leads us to conclude it's coming to the Wii. For now.
