clone45 has updated his grid-based music sequencer for the Nintendo DS. The major new feature is midi-output support using DSMI. "CellDS is six sequencers in one, with each sequencer being controlled by a user definable Lua script. It is the peculiar anti-social stepchild of the Tenori-On and Monome".
Quote
Features include:
Dead simple user interface.
Ability to create your own unique sequencer rules using the Lua programming language. CellsDS comes with a developer’s guide and example scripts to get you started.
175 sounds are included. With a little work, you can add your own sounds.
Ability to customize the scale. (All you microtonal nerds will be pleased.)
Coming soon… Wifi-Midi support.
There are some limitations to the Lua scripts that you can write due to performance issues. Please refer to the Developer’s Guide (included in the distribution) for more details. In short, cellsDS sequencers need to perform briskly - which might rule out things such as doing expensive cellular-automaton calculations.

I was browsing meraman's site earlier and noticed he linked to a tool coded by hiroshi, "DS Downloader", it was just recently updated on 21.10.08. This is basically an application to download and execute .nds files over WiFi. Very handy for homebrew developers as this defeats the need to keep removing SD media in and out of the pc every 10 mins.
Google Translation
On the PC in the LAN from a Web server, NDS download files stored on SD cards.

Here's an unthinkable thought: could the DSi actually flop? Earlier this week, GamePro speculated that there was a distinct lack of buzz around the upgraded handheld. This viewpoint was based on the fact that DSi reservation tickets (essentially guarantees that you'll get your desired product on launch day without the need to queue for hours) have hardly been setting Japanese auction sites alight.
We'd personally offer one of our limbs for a Japanese DSi at launch, but we also know that our reader's views on the DSi vary from wildly excited to massively underwhelmed. For what it's worth, we fully expect DSi to be a rip-roaring success, but it hasn't been that long since another upgraded Nintendo handheld met a frosty reaction at market. Could the DSi also fail?

Nintendo have finally blocked the Homebrew Channel it seems
via wiifanboy
Update: Reader John writes in and points us to Wiibrew, who is reporting this update kills The Homebrew Channel, as well as the Mplayer that makes DVD play possible. If you've already followed our guide for playing DVDs and installed The Homebrew Channel, then you're fine.
Chances are, your Wii may have told you this already -- either through the friendly blue light or a message that pops up when you load the Wii Shop Channel. But in case it hasn't, Nintendo has sent out a new Wii firmware update. In Japan, the software is up to 3.4. The Shop Channel is down for maintenance as well, as all references to Wii Points are changed to "Nintendo Points" and various other pre-DSi maintenance is done. But in America and Europe, not much seems to have changed.
This NeoGAF thread is tracking the potential changes -- most notably that some people are now unable to install the Homebrew Channel. People with pre-existing installations are fine, but it's possible that this new update has blocked the ability to install homebrew. There was a fairly ominous message in the update description about deleting altered saves! Of course, these reports could turn out to be in error.
Other reported effects include improved Shop Channel loading speed, possibly reorganized item listings, and nothing.
I wonder if nintendo took this action because of the iso loader that was released, makes you wonder ?

Apparently overheard by 1UP's Shane Bettenhausen at the recently concluded TGS08, third-party developers on WiiWare haven't been raking in the cash. Supposedly, they've only sold "hundreds" of copies of their digital wares, meaning it's largely been a bust for them. We're not sure how valid this is, hence the rumor label.
When you think about it, how could stellar titles like LostWinds, World of Goo and Mega Man 9 sell only a few hundred copies? Perhaps the shovelware that is Protöthea and SPOGS Racing only sold a few hundred, if that, but we're thinking that the good games have done pretty well. Hey Nintendo, how about some sales data?
Of course, this could all be moot. It's not like there's much of a source on this one (we've checked the latest 1UP show and the latest podcasts, but we haven't been able to find it there), so feel free to apply salt where needed

Seriously, Konami? To be fair this version of DDR isn’t targeting the core Dance Dance Revolution market. This game is using a license to expand the series like Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Rave and it’s upcoming predecessor Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Grooves. Dance Dance Revolution: Winx Club popped up on the the USK, Germany’s ESRB, which means this DDR mix is currently only planned for Europe at the moment. However, Konami used the Dance Dance Revolution brand instead of Dancing Stage, the name for DDR in Europe, so Dance Dance Revolution: Winx Club is probably coming to North America too.

Not sure if this update is coming out for North American Wiis now, but overnight the Wii’s Shopping Channel got a minor update. The interface has been updated so Wii Points are now referred to as Nintendo Points, but as we mentioned before Nintendo’s currency is tied to a console. The DSi comes out next week and you’ll be able to use Nintendo Points to purchase software, unannounced launch software, when the system arrives in Japan.
The other change is a button to check out which controllers/peripherals are required to play a game. If you’re in Japan, here are the ways you can get Nintendo Points.

My current Wii doesn't get much use. OK, it gets no use. But that's not to say I wouldn't turn down the chance to get another one! Though it couldn't just be any Wii. If I had to get a new Wii - and Nintendo wouldn't let me have one of those HDD-equipped ones - I'd want this one. Because if I got it, how many other people could say they owned a Wii that had been doodled all over by Pixel, the dude who created Cave Story? Doodles of Cave Story characters, all over both the console and the controllers? Not many people, that's how many.

With the handheld's Nov. 1 release just around the bend in Japan, Nintendo has released a new "informational video" showing off the user interface, camera functionality, and DSi store for the Nintendo DSi. As expected, there's a lot of wacky face-stretching and bestickering of cute photos to be found, along with some hah-larious pitch modulation of recorded voice clips. You know, like the voice changers you've tried on XBL and PSN for all of two minutes.
The DSi store and the DSi's revamped UI are unquestionably the most interesting aspects of the short video. We're still interested to see if the DSi allows for things such as changing game cards and system settings without having to reboot the unit. That'd be so ... 2008. (2009 if you live in the US.)

Ys-y for you to say, eh? Eh? Atlus will bring the recent DS remakes of Nihon Falcom's flagship Ys role-playing series to North America on February 10, 2009. Even better, instead of releasing the two titles individually as they were sold in Japan, the publisher plans to bundle the games together as Legacy of Ys: Books I & II. Samuel Mullen, project lead for Legacy of Ys, tells Joystiq that the team "worked closely with the developer to offer both games, Books I and II, on a single DS cartridge."
The package is a pint-sized version of Ys Eternal, which was released on the PC in Japan in 1997, and was itself a rehash of Turbo Duo classic, Ys Book I & II. The series has never garnered the same sort of cult status that it's enjoyed in Japan, but we nonetheless welcome the addition to our DS library, if only for the music (some of which can be heard in the video above) alone.
