Okay, so the prophylactic jokes are strong with this one, but bear with us as we attempt to stick to the straight and narrow about XS Games' PopStar Guitar for Wii. It's a game that, if this were an SAT exam, would be to Guitar Hero as Mini-KISS is to KISS: somewhat short of the real thing. The screen shots look rather simplistic and, of course, familiar, but what stands out is the sheath accessory that slips onto your Wiimote, giving you four (yes, just four) fret buttons to manipulate while you "strum" with the Nunchuck. After a few hours of this we think you're more likely to be in a wrist brace than rock 'n roll heaven. It's an experience you can feel for yourself when the game hits stores at the end of the month.

After a long period of rom hacking, around 2 years, the Mother 3 team has finished their English translation to the Japanese sequel to Earthbound (SNES), Mother 3. Here's more from the Mother 3 Translation Site:
After more than 13 years of waiting, the sequel to EarthBound is now in English! I hope fans of the series, new and old, will find MOTHER 3 to be just as unique and interesting as its predecessors. We tried our very best to make a worthy translation, and I think we came close to hitting that mark. With any luck, the translation will seem just as "strange, funny, and heartrending" as the original Japanese version.
MOTHER 3 is filled with secrets and rarities. Characters say new things after even the tiniest of events. Take your time to explore the game's intriguing world - you won't be disappointed! And when you're done, be sure to come back here, because we've prepared many more goodies for fans to check out and enjoy post-game!
Enjoy your time in the world of MOTHER 3!

Nintendo has updated the Virtual Console with three more games from the wonderlands of yesteryear: Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition, Space Harrier, and Mayhem in Monsterland.
SSFIISCE is the Megadrive version of Street Fighter II, basically, and costs 800 Wii Points (GBP 6 / EUR 7.70). Whether you'll be up for paying that is another matter, however, since beat-'em-up loving retro-heads have surely already bought Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Turbo or Super Street Fighter II from the SNES pages already.
Other options are Space Harrier (Master System, 500 Points, GBP 3.50 / EUR 4.50), which is probably rubbish. Space Harrier II came out almost two years ago in its Megadrive incarnation, which is also worth bearing in mind.
Finally, there's Mayhem in Monsterland (C64, 500 Points, GBP 3.50 / EUR 4.50). We said the words "Mayhem in Monsterland" to Kristan and he started rambling on about it being mail order only, "a phenomenal achievement", and all sorts of other cack. VC guru Dan Whitehead says it had lots of cool ideas, including playing each level twice - once to make it happy, and then to collect stars. We like the sound of that.
Find out if our ears deceive us, and our thoughts on the others and whatever came out last week, when we round up the latest WiiWare and Virtual Console releases early next week.

Nintendo has responded to another set of strong US sales results by identifying the Wii's "variety of unique interfaces" as a key reason for the platform's success.
The Wii topped the NPD hardware list for September - again - selling 687,000 units, up 234,000 from August and a year-on-year increase of over 37 per cent.
The system also saw four of its titles take top ten software positions with combined sales of over 1.3 million units.
"The four Wii games in the top ten all feature controls just not possible on other videogame systems," commented Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive VP of Sales & Marketing.
"The Wii Balance Board and Wii Wheel give players new ways to interact with their games, while the Wii Remote controller transforms into a pool cue, table tennis paddle or lightsaber. Consumers have truly responded to this variety of entertainment options."
The full breakdown of hardware and software sales in the NPD September results is available now.

News/release from Yossi
FlipEm is a game where you try to get all the squares on the board to have an X in them. When a square is flipped, it gets an X if it was empty, or clears out the X if there was already one there. When you click a square, it and the four around it in a + shape get flipped. Squares off the edge of the board are ignored.

Here are nine more shots of Wii hedgehog outing Sonic and the Black Knight, the follow up to Secret Rings.
Black Night brings Sonic into the world of Arthurian legend, where he can leg it around massive castles chinning baddies with a sword. It sounds a bit rubbish on paper, but we're told it's turning out well.
Don't forget to check out the recent trailer as well here.

In case you missed it, Cave Story is coming to the Wii. As a WiiWare title. If you don't have a PC and don't mind paying for a free PC game, there is no question, you should get this game. But just in case there are any questions, know that the Wii version isn't a straight-up port. It's having its graphics tarted up. Like a HD remix, except, not really in HD. Above is King. On the left, King from the PC version. On the right, King from the Wii version. After the jump, same thing, except for Toroko. Looks great, a lot more like the character art from the cutscenes, but I'm sure some people will still find some reason to complain about this graphical treason.
