Of all of the beloved video game characters that have fallen by the wayside (or been forced there by a string of subpar games) Earthworm Jim is one we'd most like to see make a comeback. C'mon, game publishers, the guy practically oozes charm, just give him a gun and some things to shoot and you're three-fourths of the way there.
For now though, we'll have to sate ourselves with the original Earthworm Jim (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) on Virtual Console, which we suppose will have to do, if only to square off once more with Bob the Killer Goldfish.

Whoa, ch-check out this week's WiiWare selections. No, really, check them out.
Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands (Telltale Games, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points): If you've played the previous Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People episodes, this is a no-brainer. If not, you're probably better off starting at episode one.
Art Style: ROTOHEX (Nintendo, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points): Another entrant from the Japanese bit generations collection. Formerly known as DIALHEX, the game is essentially a stripped-down version of Hexic.

Nintendo creative star Shigeru Miyamoto believes Guitar Hero is a "cover band" compared to the creativity on offer in Wii Music, which is due out here on 14th November.
"As a game designer, I looked at Beatmania and Guitar Hero. Those games let people be the best cover band they could possibly be. As a musician, I wanted to create a game that lets people express themselves in music, and with Wii Music I think we achieved that," Miyamoto told GameSpot.
"With Wii Music, everyone in the house can pick it up and, within a few minutes, start playing music... Wii Music lets people experience that higher level of musical creation without having to spend years training."
Miyamoto said his latest creation is a "musical arrangement engine" where you can rearrange familiar songs such as "Frere Jacques" for up to six instruments, producing all sorts of results depending on your choices: reggae or rap, classical or death metal (probably).
There are 60 songs and 60 instruments in the full version of Wii Music. Tracks range from videogame themes to "Every Breath You Take" by the Police, and instruments vary from turntables to violins.
But will this, the latest big game from Nintendo designed to appeal to non-gamers, click with the core audience braying for more Marios and Metroids?
"We didn't look at the question of whether or not it would appeal to core gamers or casual gamers," Miyamoto said. "It really depends on one's interest in music, not their interest in games. If you're the type of person who taps your feet to a song, I think this will interest you."
"I think you'll find people who are as hardcore playing Wii Music as any other game. I have found that, as a single player, you can spend over three hours arranging a single song. Since there's 50 songs, simple math tells you that you can spend 150 hours playing it - and that's just by yourself.
"I am actually getting concerned about how much I'm playing it!" he added.
However, Miyamoto did reiterate Nintendo's comments in August when he said, "We're not forgetting we need to keep making Zelda games, though!"
Wii Music is due out here on 14th November. Look out for our review very soon.

So sayeth the immortal Pete Burns, "You spin me right round baby, right now, like a record baby, round, round, round, round." In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has hinted that, yet again, the supply for the Nintendo Wii might not meet the demand this holiday. The Regginator (a nickname noted in the article) said that production is up 33% over last year, from 1.6 million consoles per month to 2.4 million.
We've talked about Wii shortages once or twice before. "One of our competitors' projects," he said (we're thinking he meant Sony), "they will sell 10 million consoles worldwide this year. For us, that's three months of production." By his numbers, it would actually be closer to four months, but when you're dealing with multiples of infinity all day long, math tends to get a little fuzzy.
We still find it hard to believe that there's still potential shortages after 708 days, but the sales numbers seem to suggest scholars will need to create a new number system for sales calculations.

While Nintendo hasn't even announced the next Wii, a DigiTimes source claims that a company named Pixart Imaging is already set to provide Nintendo with the infrared chips for their next generation Wii device. (Pixart already supports the current Wiimote and products from Intel and Logitech.) While not necessarily the worst news, I'm sure at least a few of us were hoping for a solution to avoid those constant "point your Wiimote at the screen" error messages. Oh well, Nintendo could release the Wii2 with non-interactive, rotting banana controller and it would still sell a bajillion units.

Channel File Manager is based on WAD Manager 1.21 and AnyTitle Deleter and allows you to manage your Wii channel menu. You can install devices from your choice, and uninstall. The homebrew may also use your CIOS to benefit the installation chains.
You must create a folder named wad at the root of your device (SD Card, SD Gecko or USB storage device) and put all your files WAD.
If you want to delete a title and you do not have the WAD file in the choice of device select "Internal Memory of the Wii."
Note: The version using the Custom Channel IOS File Manager is compatible only with versions revision 04 (rev04) of IOS Custom tona and Waninkoko (or higher).
News / corrections:
- Adding a Multilingual interface. The language of homebrew will depend on that of your Wii console. For the moment, only the French and English are supported. English is the default language.
- Adding a detection system with which the homebrew is launched:
* If the homebrew is launched from a loader, will return to the homebrew loader
* If the homebrew is launched from a chain, will return to the homebrew Wii Menu
- There will be a longer version, Cahsman believing that now everyone has a Custom IOS compatible.
- Compatibility Homebrew Channel 9 Beta

Pac has released an update to his FPS for the Nintendo DS:
Hey, it's going well, I've been getting sidetracked trying different things.
First of all, I've uploaded a new version, grab it via Comments.
This version should be considered a test, it only has one level and it's not even very good(it's the one I've used to try new things) but should give you an idea of the changes I've been introducing. I'll try to explain a bit what I've been doing.
First of all I've changed the map size from 32x32 to 64x64 tiles. Because it's a tilemap, and because of the way it's rendered, there's no real limit to map size other than the DS memory, but there's is a limit on the amount of interactive elements a map could have (doors, aliens...) before it starts to slowdown so I feel that 64x64 is a good size. Also a bigger map, given the game design, would be a drag.
The change in map size forced me to change the way the map screen works, I think the result is better than what I had before though.
I've changed the aliens a bit too. Before I placed them by hand, now th DS gives them random starting positions so every time they are in different places. I've also implemented triggers, that can create aliens when you activate them. It means that now aliens can appear behind you when you enter a room or grab a key and things like that. All this, together with the map size has increased the number of aliens a lot, I think It should be less boring. It's also very customizable so in the final game I'll introduce difficulty levels.
There are also a lot of new scenery elements and I've corrected a few bugs. I've also learned a few new things about the machine ( remember that I'm really new to the DS) and now the whole thing is more efficient and uses less memory.
Right now I'm working on the level generator, with the level size increase and the lack of an editor (yeah I'm lazy) level creation has become a bit of a chore and if I can get it working like I want to you'll have infinite levels, so I think it's worth a try. After that I'll make the new weapons (shotgun and flame-thrower). Both are halfway implemented but I still want to improve some things, especially the aliens reactions.
So i'll stop the rant now. Please give it a try and tell me what you think.

News from Marcan:
Beta9 would have been out a few days ago, but then Nintendo came up with the new October 23 update with perfect timing, so we had to make sure the beta9 installer was compatible (read: exploited a new bug nobody knew about until then). So here it is.
Warning: We’ve updated the ELF loader to be compliant with the specs. Unfortunately, DevkitPPC ELFs currently are not (they will be in the next release), so they’ll break. App authors should distribute DOL versions. If they don’t, tell them to. If they don’t, convert it yourself:
powerpc-gekko-objcopy -O binary boot.elf boot.dol
Newer ELFs produced by the new toolchain (when it comes out, hopefully soon) will be compatible both with the new loaders (HBC beta9) and all the old loaders. All DOL files work as usual. The new linkerscript will also be more flexible (we’re using it for all the binaries involved in HBC, instead of a mixture of custom linker scripts). Authors of other loaders will like this.
Changelog:
Installer / updater now works with the October 23 update
SDHC support
REALLY fixed the memcard bug
Installer now picks newest sane IOS, fixes some beta8 regressions
Added a reload button (for SD card changes)
Return to system menu skips warning
Fixed some graphical glitches
Saner XML load code
Many fixes to underlying stuff in the newer libogc
We’re keeping the new bug under wraps for now to increase the chances of us being able to use it for the BootMii-Core installer too
Even with beta9, I don’t recommend that you update unless you need to. You can use Muzer’s or tona’s installer to install IOS51 and the new Wii Shop only, which will keep all the old vulnerable IOSes too.

Codemii have released a new version of the Homebrew Browser for the Nintendo Wii, heres whats new:
26 October 2008 (v0.2.3b)
Using dol instead of elf to work with HBC beta 9
Out of no where the HBC was updated to Beta 9 and what you might have figured out is that the HBC now only loads valid ELF files. This was news to me and as far as I’m aware they didn’t tell any homebrew developers about this. The only way you’d know about it is by reading the new README file that’s included or trying to run a elf file. It would have been nice if they had told us about this new ELF feature before they released it.
Those of you who have updated to HBC Beta 9 will have to re-download the HBB manually.
Download HBB v0.2.3b or run HBB on your Wii to update (you will need to update twice).
I was working on showing all the applications on your SD card before the newest HBC came out. You can view them by moving your cursor to the top left corner of the screen and pressing A.

A new beta release of Dolphin the Gamecube and Nintendo Wii Emulator for Windows has been released.
Dolphin is a Gamecube emulator. It also has preliminary support for Wii and basic Triforce emulation (this is pending a commit, and does not run games yet).
Gamecube compatibility is about the same (or worse, due to various core changes and lack of subsequent compatibility work) as previous releases.
Wii compatibility is very low. Some games show their intro movies, that's it. There is preliminary Wiimote emulation but it does not work yet.

Gaffer MiketheBSG got robbed, bigtime. Yesterday some burglar broke into his place, stole $26,000 worth of electronics, his girlfriend's jewelry and traumatized his dog. If there's a silver lining? His 228 Virtual Console and 30 WiiWare games were all restored by Nintendo to his new Wii. Ordinarily Nintendo doesn't allow such transfers. But my guess is they saw the volume of his catalog, not to mention heard about the 151 and 127 GameCube and DS games lost in the theft, and figured he was a good customer who definitely deserved a break. So, good on Nintendo. But the burglar is a piece of shit forever.

There are many writers on the Joystiq payroll who are of the firm opinion that the Wii incarnation of Resident Evil 4 was the best version of the multi-platform title. That's why we were understandably disappointed when it was outed that Resident Evil 5 would not be coming to Nintendo's console -- though according the game's producer, Masachika Kawata, a Wii port of RE5 was never a remote possibility. Due to the game's graphical improvements over the previous installment, "the title screen of this couldn't have been done on PS2 or Wii," Kawata explained in a recent GameTrailers interview.
Nintendo fanboys shouldn't be too disheartened by this somewhat brash claim -- in a later, seperate interview with GameTrailers, Juntake Uchi, yet another producer for the title, said that Capcom would love to continue the Resident Evil franchise on the Wii, though such a reunion is "a couple of years down the road."

Muzer has posted an updated release but sadly no news on whats new other than bugfixes, heres the release info:
Wii Shop and IOS51 installer is a very quick modification of PatchMii modified by Muzer that does one thing: It installs the new IOS51 and Wii Shop Channel, without installing the patches to all the other IOSes. This means that as long as you didn't update, you can now install this to use the Wii Shop Channel but keep all the benefits of not having the update.
Anybody at all could have made this, just everyone is too busy at the moment, so I figured I would make it. It's literally modifying 4 lines of code and commenting out a bunch of stuff. Source code is now available for both Muzer and Tona's builds.
This does not have the same effects as updating, so you get the best of both worlds.
You can do this on any system menu version and it will work fine, keeping the system menu version you have.
I made the program as two separate DOL files, because it's easier and quicker for me that way, if this lasts a while I'll make a version that combines the two files. The current build by Tona is combined into a single DOL.
NOTE: TAKE OUT ANY GAMECUBE MEMORY CARDS/CONTROLLERS AND USB DEVICES BEFORE INSTALLING ANYTHING. The first time one person installed the IOS51 and Wii Shop Channel, one person had a Gamecube memory card and a wireless adapter in the Wii, and it didn't install correctly. But after taking out all Gamecube items and re-installing everything, it worked fine. Axelpaxel discovered that USB devices caused the same bug.
Instructions: Simply load one file, then the other. It does not matter in which order you load them. Use any method. If using Tona's build, simply run the single included DOL to install. You will need to create the meta.xml and icon.png files if you choose a build other than Matthew_8's Homebrew Channel friendly package.

There are a number of maladies one usually associates with long-term guitar playing -- bloodied, mangled fingers (otherwise known as Townshend syndrome), horrible "strap burn" on one side of the player's neck, and, of course, an insatiable addiction to heroin. While for the most part, faux-rocking Guitar Hero and Rock Band enthusiasts are safe from these perils, a recent recall announcement of a peripheral may concern ludological guitarists about the very real possibility of shredding-related pants corrosion.
The peripheral in question is the Rage Wireless Guitar for the Wii, which has been recalled due to a faulty circuit board which causes the AA batteries within to leak onto the user's Jordache's, and possibly, the tallowy skin beneath. One injury complaint has already been filed, spurring the recall, however, those present at the aforementioned time of injury were quoted as saying, "seeing Steve rock so hard that he burned a hole in his pants was the coolest thing any of us will ever see."
