Nintendo has confirmed with a message sent via the Wii system that Donkey Kong Country, DKC 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and DKC 3: Dixie Kong Double Trouble will become "unavailable for purchase" on November 25 (see pictured - image via GoNintendo). The message ends there, with no disclosure as to why they're being removed. There's also no word as yet if other regions will be affected.
The DKC games were developed by former Nintendo studio Rare - now a Microsoft studio - but Nintendo owns the rights to Donkey Kong Country and its characters.

Namco Bandai's community manager walks you through the new Tekken Ball mode in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition in a new video below.
Tekken Ball - which first appeared as a mini game in Tekken 3 - is a bizarre take on volleyball, with players hitting a floating ball back and forth, scoring points when it touches the ground or hits their opponent.Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be a Wii U launch title, hitting shelves next to the console on November 18 in US and November 30 in EU.

Care to be one of the first to buy a Wii U this weekend? Then start layering on the outerwear, swallowing that pride and making your way to Nintendo's flagship Rockefeller Plaza store in New York City. Starting at midnight this Saturday, the company will begin selling its next-gen console along with other "premium items" to the extreme fanpersons in attendance. And as a special treat for whomever's waiting at the front of the line, NOA's prez, Reggie Fils-Aime, will be there to hand over that very first console - effectively doubling your bragging rights. So, if you like your launch day cold and a little bit crazy (yes, there will be folks walking around with Mii heads), November 18th's one to mark down in the calendar.

In a press release touting the Wii U system being released in the US this weekend, Nintendo has revealed that the Nintendo TVii won't be available at launch. Instead, the multimedia service has been delayed until December, with no specific release date given.
Video-on-demand apps like Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus will be releasing “in the coming weeks”. Netflix representatives told Engadget that the Netflix app would be available at launch, but won't be a functional part of Nintendo TVii “until Q1”.
Some members of the press have revealed that many of the Wii U's online features are still no-shows on their review units, though Nintendo has said they will be added in a software update available at launch.
“The prelaunch hardware provided to the press is currently not capable of doing much more than playing games. Functions like the online game store, Miiverse social networking, video chat, a Web browser, and even the ability to transfer content from an old Wii to a new Wii U won't be available until Nintendo rolls out a downloadable software update,” wrote Ars Technica's Kyle Orland.
“Got a few questions about it, but just so you know, we're waiting on an online-enabling Wii U firmware update before posting game reviews,” tweeted Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann.
The Nintendo Wii U will be released in the United States on November 18, 2012. On the bright side, we're assured the system will be able to play games.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, Nintendo will be releasing their next-gen console this weekend. It’s called the Wii U, and one of the most interesting features is the Wii U GamePad – the first controller to feature a full-color video screen right between the analog sticks.
Needless to say, we’re not terribly interested in the Wii U. The GamePad, though, looks perfect for robot controllers, FPV aerial vehicles, and a whole slew of projects that require some remote control.
The hardware for the GamePad is fairly impressive; apart from D pads and analog sticks, the new Wii Controller features a front-facing camera, gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer, 6.2 inch 854×480 touchscreen display, and an extension port housing an I2C bus for all your old Wii peripherals.
Other than a stock feature list, we have no idea how the Wii U will be able to transmit video to the GamePad. It might be WiFi, allowing you to connect all your projects to a wireless network and control them without a whole lot of hardware.
We’ll keep you posted on the developments of hacking the Wii U GamePad. Hopefully we’ll all have an awesome remote control by next year.

Nintendo confirmed this summer that the Wii U would offer a YouTube app in addition to a number of other streaming video options, but it didn't have any news for existing Wii users at the time. That's now changed, though, with Google announcing today that it's finally made a YouTube app available for the original Wii after all these years. As you can see, it sports a suitably simple interface designed with the Wii Remote in mind, and it'll give you access to all the basic YouTube features you'd expect, including the channels you've subscribed to and other specialized sections. The app itself is also built using WebM, which Google says makes it the largest deployment of WebM video to date. Unfortunately, it's only available to Wii users in the US for the time being, but Google says it will be bringing the app to more countries in the "coming months."

Pre-orders for Wii U games are more than double the number of consoles pre-ordered
GameStop reported in its earnings call that it has been allocated 500,000 Wii U systems (which have all been reserved for pre-orders), and 1.2 million pre-orders for Wii U games have been booked, for an attach rate of 2.4. That's more than double what GameStop saw for the Wii launch, the company said.
GameStop noted the pre-orders were for titles like ZombiU, Assassin's Creed 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Scribblenauts Unlimited and New Super Mario Bros. U. The launch title lineup for the Wii U is stronger than the Wii's initial lineup, which probably accounts for much of the difference.
The attach rate is a key indicator for third-party publishers, who look at that number to help determine whether or not to invest in development for a platform. Nintendo has predicted that the Wii U attach rate will be over 4 for the fiscal year, whichanalysts find unrealistic. A clearer picture of the attach rate will emerge after the console has been selling for a couple of months.

November 16th, 2012, 00:39 Posted By: wraggster
This holiday season is arguably one of the most important in Nintendo's history. Following an incredibly successful run with the Wii, Nintendo is about to test the console waters again with the Wii U, but as Nintendo readily admits, the Wii U is a much different beast than the Wii and the market itself is vastly different than it was in 2006. Never before has the gaming sphere been more crowded, and with tablets, smartphones, Facebook, competing consoles and other entertainment options taking up people's time and money, the challenge will be great for Nintendo. With profits waning, Nintendo needs Wii U to be a big hit with consumers.
Then there's also the 3DS handheld, let's not forget - Nintendo certainly hasn't. While Sony's PlayStation Vita has struggled, the 3DS has fared well and Nintendo fully believes that there's still a place for dedicated handhelds in the current market. GamesIndustry International recently got on the phone with Nintendo of America's Scott Moffitt, executive vice president of sales and marketing, to talk about how Nintendo aims to capitalize on the holiday shopping season with Wii U and 3DS and whether Wii U will be able to generate the same buzz that the original Wii did.
Q: This is a hugely important holiday for Nintendo. Any time you're launching new hardware is crucial period. When you look at the gaming landscape and the competition, what's the overall Wii U and 3DS strategy? How do you make them “must have” gifts for this holiday?
Scott Moffitt: Obviously, the holidays are a critical time for Nintendo and for all of our products, and we spend a lot of time preparing and planning for this time of year. For us, as we look at the holiday and try to assess what we see - first, on both our handheld and console gaming platforms, we have hardware news. That's exciting whenever you have hardware news to roll out in the marketplace to introduce and launch, it makes your holidays very bright. Certainly with Wii U, it's highly anticipated, the countdown has begun for November 18th, the pre-sells have been incredibly strong and we have a very impressive launch lineup of over 24 games on day one, including games for really gamers of all types starting with one of, if not the biggest gaming franchise of all, Mario, with the new Super Mario Bros U. This will be the first time we've launched with a Mario game on a new platform in a long time, so that game is really getting a great reception so far. And Nintendo Land - new IP - [offers] great games that a lot of young and family gamers can really enjoy.

Nintendo may be taking bold strides into digital distribution with the Wii U, but owners of the 8GB Basic console will need to invest in external storage to make the most of it.
Kotaku reports that, as is standard with any electronic device, the Basic Wii U actually ships with slightly less than the advertised 8GB of memory – 7.2GB to be exact.
However, when a user first powers up their Wii U they will find that the setup procedure and account creation take up 4.2GB, leaving just 3GB free for game downloads, DLC and save storage.
This means there isn’t sufficient room to download, say, Nintendo Land, whose digital footprint is 3.2GB. The 2GB New Super Mario Bros U, however, is good to go.
It’s also worth highlighting that Wii U game discs hold 25GB of data. Should a studio max this out it means that even a virgin premium system could barely house a digital version out of the box.
The Premium console, which has 32BG of memory, actually offers 29GB of usable storage. This is reduced to 25GB after setup.
The good news is, of course, that Nintendo’s system will be compatible with external USB memory up to 2TB in size, though some external HDDs will need an additional Y-cable to function correctly. Nintendo has advised against the use of USB flash memory “as the drive's cycling capability can impact gameplay”.

Sales of the PlayStation Vita have fallen to an all-time low in Japan, but that’s not Sony’s biggest concern this week.
The release of new title Animal Crossing: New Leaf – a very popular IP in Japan – saw 3DS hardware sales rocket, with 187,077 units being shifted last week.
Vita, by contrast, sold just 4,021 units. That means 3DS outsold Vita by a ratio of 47-to-1. It is also without a single title in the software Top 30 while 3DS accounts for 14 entries.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf, incidentally, shifted 721,786 copies in its debut week.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf will be released in the UK in 2013.

The hallmark feature of the Wii U is its tablet controller, the GamePad. It promises to foster some interesting, asymmetrical gameplay innovations, but one of its best features is a bit more obvious. The GamePad's screen is a perfect gaming display, and many Wii U games can be played directly on tablet itself, no television required.
Handheld gaming is certainly nothing new, but the ability to play full-fledged console games without hogging the TV is a surprisingly delightful feature we've become addicted to. Once you try it, you may begin to wonder how you lived without it. See a round-up of our own experiences with the feature after break

Surprise! Nintendo of Japan sneaked out another Nintendo Direct presentation, with more miscellaneous information about the Wii U explained by president Satoru Iwata.
The video details parental controls, but more importantly, it has details on the USB storage, backwards compatibility, and Nintendo Network Premium deal (called the Deluxe Digital Promotion in the US). USB hard drives up to 2 terabytes will function with the Wii U, though they must be formatted specifically for the system. Powered hard drives (plugged into the wall) or using a Y cable (plugged into two USB ports) will work with the system. You'll want to use an external drive, because with system software, etc., the onboard memory of the 8GB Wii U is actually 7.45GB, and the 32GB Wii U holds 29.8GB of usable space. At 5:53, you can see the available space explained with vases full of colored pebbles.
As for Virtual Console, Nintendo still has Wii games, VC, and WiiWare content running only on the TV, not on the GamePad. Nintendo has plans for a "Wii U Virtual Console" compatible with the GamePad, but there were no details given, so it is unknown if it involves the same games, or same purchases, from the Wii Virtual Console.
Finally, the big news with the Premium deal is that earned points for eShop purchases will be usable not just in the Wii U and 3DS eShops, but on DSi and Wii as well.
After the break, you can see Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen explaining some details about Miiverse and Nintendo Network IDs, as revealed in last week's Direct.

The Wii U will likely be hard to find this Sunday. "All I can say is that the response has been phenomenal," Nintendo EVP of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt told GamesIndustry.biz, "and we're getting, especially in the higher priced deluxe set, that one's selling out incredibly quickly."
However, Moffitt has reason to believe the shortages won't stretch on forever as they did with the Wii. He said that more Wii U systems will be in stores at launch than Wiis were in 2006. "And, second, our replenishments will be more frequent this holiday time than during the Wii launch," he said.

PES 2013 on Wii bears an uncanny resemblance to PES 2012 on Wii. It's almost as if Konami saw an opportunity for a quick quid and re-released last year's game with new squads and a new menu.As uncannily similar as this man is to David Beckham.
Nintendo Gamer did all the hard work, comparing the 2013 and 2012 versions of Konami's football game. The similarities are abundant, evidence compelling.Konami UK responded to the allegations with "no comment" this morning. We've been here before with football games on Wii: FIFA 12 and FIFA 13 were almost identical but for new squads and kits. Mind you, FIFA 13 costs £30; PES 2013 has a budget £15 tag.Have EA and Konami given up on Wii - has Wii U replaced it already? As Nintendo Gamer pointed out, none of this bodes well for Wii U either. What's more, wealready know FIFA 13 on Wii U won't match the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, although it will have some new features to make up for that.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf has notched up an eye-watering 721,786 sales during its opening week. That number doesn't include digital downloads from the 3DS eShop. Early indications show this may account for up to 80,000 more.Famitsu's latest Japanese chart numbers (via NeoGAF) reveal a huge spike in 3DS hardware sales corresponding to Animal Crossing's launch. 168,662 3DS units were sold between 5th and 11th November, double that of the preceding week.Astonishingly, lifetime sales of the 3DS in Japan (now just over 8 million) look set to overtake lifetime sales of the PlayStation 3 (8.47 million) in the next few weeks.PlayStation Vita again sank to its lowest ebb, a week on from another lifetime low. Just 4263 bought one in Japan, down from 5368 the week before.Elsewhere in the chart Halo 4 launched with sales of 31,467 - no mean feat for an Xbox 360 exclusive in Japan.Western fans of Animal Crossing must wait until next year for their copy. New Leaf is currently labelled with a vague "first half of 2013" launch date in Europe.

Nintendo of America believes the Wii U price is "in a good spot," due to the high demand for the $349 Deluxe Set.Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, Scott Moffitt, toldGamesIndustry International that the upcoming console sold out of pre-orders very fast, thus justifying the manufacturer's price point."All I can say is that the response has been phenomenal," said Moffitt, who noted that the higher priced deluxe set is selling out particularly quickly. "That seems to indicate that the pricing's in a good spot and the proof is in the consumer response."Moffitt also explained that Nintendo will do a much better job replenishing supplies of Wii Us than it did with the Wii, which saw shortages for several months after release."On opening week we will have more systems on hand for the Wii U than we did for the launch of Wii," he stated. "Our replenishments will be more frequent this holiday time than during the Wii launch."That being said, Moffitt explained that there may still be shortages, given the demand for the new system. "It's impossible to exactly predict demand, and so I can't say that we won't have some shortages out there and that people won't have to be a little patient."

Soon-to-be owners of the Wii U Basic model will have just 3GB of internal storage available to them, Nintendo has confirmed.
Wii U users hoping to make the most the of the console's internal flash memory will find themselves with less space to work with than they might expect. The advertised internal memory capacity for the two Wii U SKUs is 8GB for the Basic model and 32GB for the Deluxe.
As is the case with all mass storage devices, you usually end up with slightly less than that for actual use due to file indexing and other storage-related complexities.
But the Wii U will also set aside 4.2GB for firmware updates and profile data - quite a large amount of storage for such things.
All said and done, Nintendo of Japan confirms (via Kotaku translations) that this will leave users of the 8GB WIi U Basic model with just 3GB of useable storage, while the 32GB Deluxe model will give you 25GB.
To put that into perspective, Wii U discs hold 25GB of data. Retail games - many of which will be available as digital downloads - won't always necessarily use the full disc capacity however; New Super Mario Bros. U is 2GB in size, while Nintendo Land is 3.2GB.
Nintendo's next-gen console, Wii U officially goes on sale in North America this Sunday, November 18, ahead of the European release on November 30, and here's a guide to the Wii U reviews and extensive coverage we have planned in the run up to launch.
