Nintendo has revealed that Wii U will run a NetFront browser (NX v2.1), along with specs for the software.
The browser will be capable of running either on your TV or via the Gamepad screen, and will support single-touch screen functionality. Multi-touch won't be supported. You will not be able to download/save or upload videos or pictures, confirms Nintendo. The browser will also not support plug-ins, such as flash, although it will support HTML 5 and, according to benchmarks, it outperforms current consoles and even Internet Explorer 10 on PC by a significant margin.
AAC codecs are among those support for sound, while video formats and codecs include H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC Video) and MP4.
Nintendo also confirmed the browser's multitasking support with games, so you will be able to "pause a game, launch the browser to search for tips on the game you're playing, and then re-enter the game right where you left off", it says.
Nintendo has confirmed a Wii U release date of November 18 in the US, and a Wii U release date of November 30 in Europe. The company has set the US Wii U price at $299 for the basic model, while the UK Wii U price starts at £230.

A few months ago, [Ben] saw a video of the world’s largest NES controller. “I bet I could make the smallest,” he thought in a strange game of one-upmanship. Now [Ben] has the smallest fully functional NES compatible controller, a feat of engineering that can only end in very, very sore thumbs.
The old NES controller is a very simple device: eight buttons are connected directly to a 4021 shift register. Every time the NES is looking for a change in input, it reads out the data in the shift register and gets the status of all the buttons.
After finding the smallest footprint 4021 shift register he thought he could solder, [Ben] found some very small SMD push buttons and a very tiny resistor network for the pull ups. The result is tiny, and thanks to the sacrifices of a few NES controller extension cables he found on Amazon, 100% compatible with his old NES.
You can grab all the schematics over on [Ben]‘s git. Tip ‘o the hat to [Troy] for sending this one in.

The Wii and DS versions of Activision’s Transformers Prime: The Video Game will be available exclusively through Toys R Us in the UK.
A Wii U version is also scheduled to be part of the Wii U’s launch line-up when that arrives on November 30th.
It’s fairly common practise for Transformers toys to be sold exclusively through Toys R Us, with the upcoming release of Masterpiece Optimus Prime only available through the leading toy retailer.
However, Activision’s choice to partner with the game for the launch of the game is interesting.
Transformers Prime is the latest animated series to stem from the Transformers universe, and currently only airs in the UK on satellite/cable channel Cartoon Network.
The result has been a lack of appetite for the toy line and Prime brand in the UK, with its popularity failing to match that of toys and merchandise based on Michael Bay’s movie trilogy.
Activision will no doubt hope that this new deal – and the increased presence the game will enjoy in Toys R Us outlets – will bump sales sufficiently enough to make up for the game’s lack of shelf space elsewhere.
Transformers Prime: The Game is released in the UK today.

"The all new Wii U. This is how U will play next," it says at the beginning and end of a montage showing players using the upcoming console. The first British Wii U TV advert features a cringey voiceover listing a host of hardware features and capabilities ("shoot at the TV like never before: sping, sping, sping, sping"), while detailing a range of software.

Treasure, the renowned developer of Bangai-O, Sin and Punishment, andGunstar Heroes, is at work on a new action game for 3DS now, CEO Masato Maegawa revealed to UK magazine GamesTM. "We are making a new game on Nintendo 3DS now," he said. "Not multiplatform, but exclusive to 3DS."
Maegawa explained that the team is "keen" on working on the 3DS, despite the challenges of working in (both polygonal and stereoscopic) 3D. While you can design the same game in 3D or 2D, Maegawa said, "My preference is 2D. It's hard to preserve the quality of the game when you make it completely in 3D."

Nintendo has revealed a new feature in New Super Mario Bros. U, along with further info on the game's modes. The new feature concerns the little dude above, a thief called Nabbit. When this purple bunny/thing appears on the world map, that's your opportunity to catch the miscreant and rid him of his swag. If you successfully chase him down in the level, you'll return the stolen goods to Toad who'll reward you with a P-acorn that lets you fly endlessly, good for one stage.
Minus opportunities for lapine custody, New Super Mario Bros. U also features 'Boost Mode' as revealed at E3, the return of 'Coin Battle' from its Wii predecessor, and 'Challenge Mode.' Coin Battle is as it sounds, an up-to-four-player showdown to see who can collect the most coins across unique courses. It's compatible with Boost Mode, meaning one GamePad-wielding player can place blocks to help or hinder as he or she pleases. Challenge Mode is similarly self-descriptive, with tasks set in four categories: Time Attack, Coin Collection, 1-Up Rally, and Special. It's also compatible with Boost Mode.

EA has released a handy list of all the ways in which FIFA 13 will make use of the Wii U's unique GamePad controller.
The list details things such as the touch-screen-powered management options, which can be done on the fly without pausing the game, touch-screen passing and shooting, motion-controlled 'look' features for dead ball situations and more. The publisher has also released a bunch of new screenshots for the Wii U version, which will be a launch title for Nintendo's new console.
Here's the full list of Wii U features:
- Award-winning Gameplay-Enjoy the award-winning FIFA franchise gameplay, optimized for Wii-U. The Player Impact Engine delivers real-world physicality in every interaction on the pitch; Precision Dribbling brings a higher fidelity of touch on the ball for attacking players; and Tactical Defending places equal importance on positioning, intercepting passes and tackling.
- Lift and Look-See the game from the player's on-field perspective and enjoy creative new ways to take free kicks and penalties. Simply lift and look through the GamePad screen to aim the ball, put the perfect curve on the shot, and let fly. Look to see which teammates are positioned for more dangerous opportunities.
- Shake and Shoot-Enjoy complete control of shooting- the most rewarding part of the game. Shake the GamePad to activate the shooting zone, touch the screen to pick a spot precisely on goal, and fire away.
- Tap and Tackle- Take control of a specific defender by tapping on the player using the touch screen, taking all the guess work out of auto switching. Use the touch screen to man mark or tackle and opponents simply by tapping on the attacking player and watching your closest defender mark or tackle him.
- Precision Passing- Be more creative on the pitch, making decisive passes with precision and long balls with ease utilizing the touch screen.
- Play Together-You decide how to play-hands-on, manage, or play and manage. One player manages while up to four others play in Co-op Mode. Available in Exhibition Match, Tournaments and Career Mode.
- Connect with Friends -Use the Friends Tab while playing the game. See friends online and invite them to play using touch screen typing and real-time messaging.
- Complete Control- Full Team Management Control on the GamePad lets you change formations, make subs, switch player positions, change every facet of a team's tactics, and even set man markers all without interrupting the game. Use the Interactive Radar to control all of your players on the pitch. Make your own defined defense splitting runs or get defenders to track back on defence.
- Manage the Match-Take the reins as the manager and watch the game unfold, making key strategic real-time decisions using the GamePad. Make half-time team talks and try to motivate key players. Gamers can chose to manage the team in all of the main game modes, including Tournaments and Career, and can even intervene and take control if the outcome is in doubt.
- Manager Hub - Analyze the match by looking at match or player specific stats to help make managerial decisions. Tap on any player to get full statistical analysis, including the opposition. See who's having a great game or who is having a shocker. See where all the shots are being taken from to know where to strengthen or who to man mark. See a player's performance stats and even their energy to help you make more informed substitutions.
- Real-World Drama - Experience the same drama as real world of football, either as a player or manager, with their consequences being played out on and off the pitch in Career Mode. See storylines play out in the press, experience the emotion and urgency of Transfer Deadline Day, and discover new talent using the scouting network.
- Go Online-Compete in ranked online seasonal play with promotions and relegations. Play 10-game seasons and earn enough points to be promoted or avoid relegation. Higher divisions mean better competition. Compete for Cups and in dynamic tournaments.
- Touch Screen Navigation- Utilize the Gamepad to quickly select your favourite game modes and features. A much simpler and quicker way to get to the action.
- Complete Authenticity-Over 500 officially licensed clubs and authentic stadiums from around the world.
- HD Graphics-Stunning player models, graphics and animations in High Definition.
EA said in earnings reports this week that it has sold around 7.4 million copies of FIFA 13 in four weeks, which makes it "the biggest sports launch of all-time".

One of Nintendo's goals with the Wii U is to win back hardcore gamers who turned their noses up at the casual-friendly Wii. With the Wii U's touchscreen-sporting Game Pad, Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford thinks Nintendo at least has the right hardware for the job.
"This is the best controller Nintendo's ever made for making an FPS," Pitchford toldJoystiq recently. "This is the best controller Nintendo has ever given us for playing hardcore games."
Pitchford added that the Game Pad is perfect for Gearbox's current Wii U project, Aliens: Colonial Marines. The screen itself will be used as a motion tracker similar to the ones seen in the actual Aliens movies. As for Game Pad functionality being mirrored on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with those systems' second-screen features (SmartGlass and PS Vita cross-play, respectively), Pitchford was skeptical, saying not all implementations of the Wii U pad would work well on the competitors' technology.
"With the Wii U, [Nintendo] committed themselves to this promise," Pitchford said. "So the link is direct, fast, and immediate. Things like SmartGlass and Vita, they appreciate the value of the promise so they're making the promise. But they're not in with such commitment."
Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to launch February 12 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The Wii U edition is scheduled for the system's "launch window," which Nintendo has extending through March 2013.

PSone classic Dragon Quest VII is getting remade and enhanced for 3DS next year.
Square Enix has confirmed as much via aJapanese teaser site, which dates the 3DS remake for release in Japan on February 7, 2013.ArtePiazza, who has previously worked on DS remakes of classic DQ games, is handling development on the 3DS title, renamed Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden, according toSiliconera.
The much-praised Dragon Quest VII originally released on PSone in Japan in 2000, with a US launch the following year. The game unfortunately never made UK shores.
Square is yet to detail release plans outside of Japan, but with previous remakes getting international releases, its a safe bet to assume this won't stay Japan-only for long.

EA sold around 7.4 million copies of FIFA 13 in four weeks, the publisher said today.
This, added EA, makes it "the biggest sports launch of all-time".FIFA 13 sold 4.5 million copies worldwide in five days, which made it the "biggest videogame launch of 2012 and biggest sports videogame launch of all-time", according to EA at the time.
EA also logged the fastest-selling UK game of 2012 with FIFA 13, which topped the UK software charts (week ended September 29) accounting for 71 per cent of the UK's total video unit sales.

Nintendo is pushing its digital distribution efforts with the Wii U, today announcing an incentive program to get gamers downloading content for the new console. Those who purchase the deluxe Wii U hardware package (which costs an extra $50 but includes 32GB of internal storage instead of 8GB) will get a 10 percent rebate on goods downloaded from the Wii U eShop.
The example given by Nintendo is that a game like New Super Mario Bros. U purchased in the eShop for $59.99 would earn 599 points. For every 500 points earned, Nintendo will give users a code for $5 in store credit for the Wii U or 3DS eShops. Nintendo will launch a website for the promotion in December that will allow users to see their points balance and receive codes to be redeemed for credit.
Points will be earned for all digital purchases on the Wii U deluxe hardware through 2014, as well as download codes for full games purchased through standard retailers. Codes will then have to be obtained from the site by the end of March 2015, with those codes further redeemed for the actual eShop credit by the end of June 2015.
The Wii U launches November 18 in a basic white set ($299) and a black deluxe package ($349). Beyond the differences in system color and internal memory, the deluxe package also includes a copy of the NintendoLand minigame collection and stands for the console and controller.

October 30th, 2012, 23:43 Posted By: wraggster
Nintendo is deliberately slowing the release of first party Wii U titles to help extend the console’s sales into 2013.
That’s the admission of boss Satoru Iwata who has told investors that the machine is guaranteed to do well at launch – the challenge, he believes, is maintaining any potential sales spike.
“If you look at how pre-orders are doing at the moment, it is not an exaggeration to say that Wii U is sure to sell well in this holiday season,” he stated. “But we realise the biggest challenge is to make sure that Wii U sells well even in the next year after the holiday season, and we are working on that too.
“Nintendo tends to release too many titles at the launch of a hardware system and as a result suffers a drop in new games for quite some time after launch, and for the Wii U launch, we are being very careful not to let it happen.”
Instead, Nintendo is letting third parties shoulder more of the responsibility for generating hype during the launch window with Nintendo ready to pick up the baton and roll with it into the New Year.
“Fortunately, third-party publishers overseas are launching many titles for us this time, and we were able to push back the release of some of the titles that we had originally intended to release as launch titles until next year,” he added.
“We will continue to supply software to provide new content that consumers will talk about even after January. The combination of these two things is what we think will keep our momentum going after January next year.”

Fceux SVN r2727 is compiled. FCEUX is a cross platform, NTSC and PAL Famicom/NES emulator that is an evolution of the original FCE Ultra emulator. Over time FCE Ultra had separated into many separate branches. The concept behind FCEUX is to merge elements from FCE Ultra, FCEU rerecording, FCEUXD, FCEUXDSP, and FCEU-mm into a single branch of FCEU. As the X implies, it is an all-encompassing FCEU emulator that gives the best of all worlds for the general player, the ROM-hacking community, and the Tool-Assisted Speedrun Community.
Fceux SVN changelog:
r2724
* Taseditor: update RAM Search and RAM Watch when jumping causes game state to change
* added BoulderDash_AmoebaAI.lua
* added CustomLagIndicator_RvT.lua
r2725

Snes9x Git (2012/10/30) is compiled. Snes9x is a portable, freeware Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. It basically allows you to play most games designed for the SNES and Super Famicom Nintendo game systems on your PC or Workstation; which includes some real gems that were only ever released in Japan. Snes9x is the result of well over three years worth of part-time hacking, coding, recoding, debugging, divorce, etc. (just kidding about the divorce bit). Snes9x is coded in C++, with three assembler CPU emulation cores on the i386 Linux and Windows ports.
Snes9x Git changelog:
* win32: map pbo with GL_READ_WRITE
* libretro: use RGB565 if available

For almost 7 years now, SMW Central has been the backbone of the Super Mario World hacking community, providing valuable resources to SMW hackers, as well as hosting a huge list of hacks for those just looking for something to play.
Now, for the first time ever, we are expanding by adding another Mario title to the list of games we support. Yes, you guessed it, I am, of course, talking about Super Mario 64. In addition to adding a Super Mario 64 forum where hackers can mingle, we’re now hosting music, textures and Super Mario 64 hacks for everyone to enjoy, and we hope to add sections for even more types of resources soon.
If there’s a little Mario hacker in you, whether it be for the old or for the new - or even if you just want to try out a hack made by someone else - you should definitely stop by.
We look forward to welcoming you to our community!
