Shin Megami Tensei 4, the first new numbered MegaTen game in nearly a decade, is coming to North American 3DSs this summer both as a retail title and digital eShop download, publisher Atlus has announced.This latest entry in the series revolves around a group of samurai fighting demons. As with other games in the series, demons can be recruited to fight alongside you and this fourth entry will feature over 400 of the buggers along with StreetPass functionality and fully voiced dialogue. As with 2003's Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne (released in 2005 as Lucifer's Call in Europe), Shin Megami Tensei 4 will feature the turn-based "Press Turn" combat system in which exploiting an enemy's weakness can result in extra turns.Sadly, no European release has been announced, but given that the game is digitally distributed it seems especially likely that it will make the leap across the pond.

Orion's Odyssey is the second Nintendo DS game to seek funding assistance through Kickstarter, following the successful use of the platform as a pre-order campaign for Jason Rohrer's Diamond Trust of London.
Developed by Island Officials, the team of board game enthusiasts behind semi-obscure DS release Hands On! Tangrams, Orion's Odyssey is a "comedy-puzzle game" about a handy robot and his seven-year-old friend, who have adventures on the top screen while solving pattern block puzzles on the bottom screen, arranging differently-shaped blocks to fill each puzzle's shape.
Island Officials originally planned to find a publisher for Orion's Odyssey, but to no avail. "While they all had great things to say about our game and our efforts, they wanted to move away from Nintendo DS to other digital markets including the new 3DS system, as well as mobile phones and tablets," the developer writes.
The team found a publisher willing to take on the plum deal of helping get the game through submission if Island Officials covered all production costs, and so it's asking for precisely $85,412 on Kickstarter.

Elementary school age boys target of cross-media blitz for Gaist Crusher; 3DS game will feature anime, toy, music, and manga tie-ins
[h=3]Capcom[/h]capcom-europe.com
With the Mega Man series effectively mothballed in recent years, Capcom has a child-sized gap in its portfolio. The publisher is looking to fill that gap this year, as today it announced a new intellectual property aimed at elementary school age boys, Gaist Crusher.
Gaist Crusher will debut as a 3DS game with a bevy of supporting tie-in projects. The game will see an anime project from the studio behind Naruto and Bleach, Pierrot Co., Ltd. It will also see a line of toys from Bandai, manga series in Saikyo Jump and V Jump, and music produced by Avex Entertainment.
Described by Capcom as a "custom armor action" game, Gaist Crusher is intended to combine the outfit's experience making Mega Man content for kids with the multiplayer focus of its Monster Hunter franchise.
"With the number of children in Japan declining, Capcom plans to use this project to attract interest in new brands and firmly establish these brands by continuously launching a diverse range of content," according to the publisher.
Gaist Crusher for the 3DS is set to launch this winter.

Here’s a build that just exudes nerd cred. It’s , straight from the workshop of [lyberty5].
The build began by stealing a controller from a PAL SNES and carefully dremeling the buttons and d-pad loose from their plastic frame. The PCB was cut in half, and the remaining plastic was carefully crafted into round speaker enclosures with the help of some epoxy. hot glue, and possibly a few pieces of styrene.
The result is a perfectly formed pair of SNES headphones, with a build quality right up there with the best case mods we’ve seen. Unfortunately, while the buttons are still attached to the PCB, they don’t do anything. We’re thinking a small Bluetooth adapter – or even repurposing a set of Bluetooth headphones with volume and play controls – would be a wonderful use for the 20-year-old, candy-like buttons.
Still, an awesome build, and [lyberty5] really shows off his craft by constructing these wonderful headphones. You can see the time-lapse of the build after the break.

Wii U sales are up by almost 125 per cent last week, retail sources have told MCV.
The rise in sales was due to the launch of Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate, plus HMV cutting the price of the Premium console by £140.
Monster Hunter accounted for almost half of the revenue generated by Wii U software during that week.
The following week (last week) saw the launch of LEGO City Undercover for Nintendo's platform, and although that has had little impact on Wii U hardware sales, Wii U software sales has increased significantly.
The improved performance follows criticism from retail over the console’s poor performance, with stores threatening to reduce store space. Nintendo has since promised to speak to concerned retailers and reveal their plans to 'build momentum' for the console.
Despite the sales spike, Wii U still lags behind PS3 and 360.

'We have Unreal Engine 3 for the Wii U,' says Mark Rein
Unreal Engine 4 and Frostbite 3 will not be supporting the Wii U.
As reported by Kotaku, despite having previously announced support of Unreal Engine 4 for PC and PS4, and today revealing it will also be scalable to mobile and HTML5, Wii U developers will have to continue working with Unreal Engine 3.
In a Q&A session at GDC, Rein explained that Unreal Engine 3 development would not just disappear because it had released UE4, and that its latest engine was designed for next-gen development as far as consoles were concerned.
"We're not… we have Unreal Engine 3 for the Wii U. Right?” said Rein.
“And Unreal Engine 3 is powering all kinds of amazing games, still lots of games are being made with Unreal Engine 3. We announced today about a new Unreal Engine 3 license. Unreal Engine 3 doesn't disappear because of Unreal Engine 4.

Nintendo’s Miiverse web and smartphone app for Wii U is inching closer to arrival.
Polygon reports that Nintendo's Kiyoshi Mizuki stated the app would be available in either April or May. It will only have basic functionality at first, including posting comments, drawing doodles, and joining game communities.
A 3DS version of the Miiverse app is also in the works, but Nintendo didn’t provide a release window; though Mizuki did mention that not every game or app on the 3DS will carry Miiverse support.
We first heard of the smartphone integration for the social network back in January as part of Nintendo’s reveal of upcoming Wii U system updates.

Welcome to a special all-3DS edition of the weekly Nintendo download releases. Or, if you only have a Wii U, Wii, or DS, welcome to a post you can just skip.
Game Freak's HarmoKnight debuts on the 3DS eShop. Game Freak rarely diverges from its main business, Pokémon, so this is a rare chance to see the developer's production values and expertise applied to something other than an RPG about collecting all the world's flora and fauna into sealed containers.
Other releases include Game Boy Color fishing RPG Legend of the River King, and former retail exclusives Resident Evil Revelations and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Transformed.

European Wii U owners will not be able to purchase Darksiders 2 via the eShop digital store after March 31.The news comes via a notice on the eShop News page, which warns gamers of the software removal."The software will continue to be available for re-download if you have already purchased it," reads the notice pictured right (via Nintendo Life)."We apologize for the inconvenience," concludes the notice. No reasoning for the withdrawal is offered, nor is it indicated whether or not the title will ever return for sale via the eShop. This appears only to apply to the EU eShop since, at the time of writing, there is no such notice on the US eShop News page.Current Crytek USA CEO and former Vigil general manager David Adams has revealed his intention to bid for the Darksiders IP. Adams oversaw the Darksiders franchise at former THQ studio Vigil, which was shut down on January 25 when the bankrupt publisher failed to receive any bids for the studio as it auctioned off its assets.

GameStop saw revenue drop 7% last year, projects flat revenue for 2013 in best case
[h=3]GameStop[/h]gamestop.com
GameStop reported its earnings for the holiday quarter, and the results were mixed - which investors interpreted as good in a year when retail game sales were down by double digits overall. On the earnings call, CEO J. Paul Raines tried to put the news in the best light possible, of course. Raines had to admit, though, that last year was tough, citing a 21 drop in software sales and a 25 percent decline for hardware from NPD numbers. Of course, Raines was careful to point out that GameStop outperformed against that backdrop. Investors apparently liked what they heard, because GameStop shares were up over 7 percent after the earnings call.
Raines noted that GameStop has over 30 percent software market share in most of the markets, and the company grew its margins by 400 basis points. Outside of the classic physical business, Kongregate grew 48 percent during 2012, and GameStop's mobile division reported $184 million in sales. "We are going to be a strong player in launches of new tablets and devices," Raines claimed.
"We expect the first half of the year to be very difficult as we wait for new consoles"
Rob Lloyd
CFO Rob Lloyd added some detail to the numbers, noting comparable sales for the last quarter were down 4.6 percent when you took into account that the quarter had an extra week. The Wii U launch helped keep the quarter from looking even worse. Overall, the picture for the year wasn't great: A 7 percent sales decline for the year, and business in comparable stores was down 8.7 percent in US. GameStop was able to increase its earnings per share by 10.5 percent despite the grim retail sales picture. The essential question for GameStop's future is this: Will new consoles offset the decline in current generation console sales?
The guidance given for 2013 wasn't rosy. "We expect the first half of the year to be very difficult as we wait for new consoles," Lloyd said. "We expect to return for growth in the back half of the year." Putting numbers on that, Lloyd said that the full year would be down 8 percent to flat, with full year net income declining from 7 to 18 percent. According to Lloyd, the guidance at the high end reflects the possibility of a second new console launch in the fourth quarter other than Sony's PS4. Paging Microsoft; situation desperate, send new console.

New development environment to support app creation using HTML5, JavaScript and CSS
Nintendo has revealed a new Nintendo Web Framework to support the development of HTML5, JavaScript and CSS apps on the Wii U.
The framework, based on WebKit technologies, also supports the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote controllers and JavaScript extensions such as video playback.
Speaking at GDC 2013, Nintendo claimed that that the toolset for apps would reduce development times and allow for the easy creation of apps through using common web technologies.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata stated in January that the console giant was focused on expanding its range of software developers through web tech and coding platforms such as HTML5, JavaScript and Unity, given the rise of indie developers and diversion of web tech.
When discussing Wii Street U, a version of Google Streeview made specifically for the console, Iwata said: "By the way, this service has been developed by a small team mostly using web technologies based on HTML5, not the so-called native codes only for Wii U applications.

Snes9x Git (2013/03/27) is compiled. Snes9x is a portable, freeware Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. It basically allows you to play most games designed for the SNES and Super Famicom Nintendo game systems on your PC or Workstation; which includes some real gems that were only ever released in Japan. Snes9x is the result of well over three years worth of part-time hacking, coding, recoding, debugging, divorce, etc. (just kidding about the divorce bit). Snes9x is coded in C++, with three assembler CPU emulation cores on the i386 Linux and Windows ports.
Snes9x Git changelog:
* win32: add float_framebuffer to cg shaders
* win32: add frame_count_mod to cg shaders
* win32: fix xaudio2 mixing loop

Nestopia Git (2013/03/27) is compiled. Nestopia has been abandoned for years. It's a great emulator, and losing it would be a shame. The purpose of this project is to keep Nestopia alive as long as possible and make sure it continues to work on modern Linux distributions. In the future, Windows builds may be maintained as well. Enhancements will be made in an attempt to make this the best, most user-friendly, standalone NES emulator on the Linux platform.

Fceux SVN r2909 is compiled. FCEUX is a cross platform, NTSC and PAL Famicom/NES emulator that is an evolution of the original FCE Ultra emulator. Over time FCE Ultra had separated into many separate branches. The concept behind FCEUX is to merge elements from FCE Ultra, FCEU rerecording, FCEUXD, FCEUXDSP, and FCEU-mm into a single branch of FCEU. As the X implies, it is an all-encompassing FCEU emulator that gives the best of all worlds for the general player, the ROM-hacking community, and the Tool-Assisted Speedrun Community.
