QUBE, the first game to come out of (the pockets of) Indie Fund, is on its way to Wii U and maybe Vita, according to a series of messages on the game's officialTwitter. Toxic Games reveals a picture of QUBE running on the Wii U (shown above), along with the note that it "can't wait to get this out." As for a Vita version, Toxic responds to an inquiry with, "Quite possibly!"
QUBE launched on PC in December 2011 – and we found it to be "a delightful on-screen Rubik's Cube" – and made its way to Mac one year later, in December 2012. The game recouped its $90,000 development cost in just four days, selling more than 12,000 copies on Steam in that time.

This isn't the first time a Korg synth has been re-imagined in software form, it's not even the first (or second) time on Nintendo's DS. But, when Detune releases its M01D for the handheld console, it'll spark more than a little nostalgia for synth enthusiasts. Why? Because it's heavily inspired by Korg's legendary M1 synth, complete with all its sounds (and yes, the famous piano patch included), plus some new ones thrown in for good measure. The DS version includes a step sequencer (eight tracks with up to 64 steps per sequence) that you can compile together in "scenes." Borrowing from other parts of the Korg family, the M01D app also offers a KAOSS mode, too, no doubt using one of those screens serving as the touchpad. You can preserve your creativity by saving to SD card, or the usual internet sharing options, and heck there's even a 3D viewing mode too. Lordy! How that will actually look, we don't know, or at least we won't until its May release in Japan, before reaching the rest of the world in Summer.

Some people know [Tom Murphy] as [Dr. Tom Murphy VII Ph.D.] and this hack makes it obvious that he earned those accolades. He decided to see if he could teach a computer to win at Super Mario Bros. But he went about it in a way that we’d bet is different that 99.9% of readers would first think of. The game doesn’t care about Mario, power-ups, or really even about enemies. It’s simply looking at the metrics which indicate you’re doing well at the game, namely score and world/level.
The link above includes his whitepaper, but we think you’ll want to watch the 16-minute video (after the break) before trying to tackle that. In the clip he explains the process in laymen’s terms which so far is the only part we really understand (hence the reference to voodoo in the title). His program uses heuristics to assemble a set of evolving controller inputs to drive the scores ever higher. In other words, instead of following in the footstep of Minesweeper solvers or Bejeweled Blitz bots which play as a human would by observing the game space, his software plays the game over and over, learning what combinations of controller inputs result in success and which do not. The image to the right is a graph of it’s learning progress. Makes total sense, huh?

When it comes to modding consoles there are two names that generally stand above the rest: Mr. Benjamin J. Heckendorn and the man known as Bacteria. The latter has done his fair share of portable machines, but his latest completed project takes console hacking to lofty new heights. Unity crams a stunning 15 different consoles (including classics like the SNES and not-so-classics like the TurboGrafx 16) into a single, admittedly bulky box. The one of a kind entertainment center is the culmination of three years and $700 invested in bringing this dream to life. All of the hardware inside is either from the original consoles (no emulation of clone systems here!) or custom built -- such as the 16-position switch. And, it should go without saying, that it took a whole lot to get these gaming machines to share a single power supply, video cable and control pad. Now that the epic project is finally complete Bacteria has provided a rather lengthy walk though of all the various features and the work that went into it, which you can check out after the break.

Hopes of a Western release for a 3DS version of Ni No Kuni have been resurrected.
The game enjoyed tremendous critical success upon its European PS3 release in January, but it actually debuted as a DS title in Japan back in 2010.
Now Pocket Gamer reports that an un-named Namco Publisher executive has apparently claimed that the publisher “is not opposed” to the idea of reworking the game for a release on Nintendo’s latest handheld.
The question now is whether a 3DS version would be based on the DS code or instead on the more modern and technically advanced PS3 SKU.

If you've been keeping up with your Swapnote mailbox on 3DS, you can download an update today and enjoy some new features, including the ability to take photos or record audio and attach it to your notes, undo drawings, and use different colors on each page of a note.
Even if, like me, you haven't checked Swapnote in a few months and get kind of sick to your stomach at the thought of the thousands of unread notes building up in your inbox, the update will be of interest. You can delete multiple notes simultaneously now, and filter your messages by sender.

All of the recent news about Disney Interactive has been related to layoffs, studioclosures, and in general, disappointment. Or Disney Infinity, which has appeared to be the exclusive focus of the division all year.
But Disney Interactive has a second game in the works. A game based onDisney's Planes, the Disney-produced, formerly straight-to-DVD spinoff of Cars, will be released on Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and DS on August 6, three days before the movie is released.
"The game will expand beyond the storyline of the Disney's Planes film," Nintendo reveals, "offering players the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of flight as one of the popular characters from the film."

Yes, there's another CG and live-action Smurfs movie coming out this July, and Ubisoft is publishing the official game adaptation.
However, instead of the truly off-putting dance game released for the first movie, Ubisoft has smurfed WayForward into making a 2.5D, co-op platformer for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Wii U, and an "interactive storytelling book and collection of mini-games" for DS. All versions will march into stores this July.
Each playable Smurf has unique special abilities: Papa Smurf can throw potions, Grouchy can stomp, and Vanity can ... pose to become a platform. We don't expect too much from a licensed Smurfs game, but WayForward has a particular talent for licensed games, with Aliens: Infestation and Adventure Time as recent examples.

Get your finest green tuxedo ready, Los Angelenos, because the Legend of Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses concert is coming back in June. The touring show features a full orchestra performing classic tunes from the series, and this event promises "newly approved" music straight from the land of Hyrule.
The show starts at the Greek Theatre on Wednesday, June 12, which puts it right on the second day of E3 2013. If you want tickets, they'll be available this Saturday at 10AM through Ticketmaster.
This is a newly scheduled stop on the Zelda tour, but it's not the only one: The full schedule has dates around the rest of California, in Texas, and up in Seattle and Toronto as well.

Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien - Gaijin Games' follow-up to Bit.Trip Runner - is due out on the European Wii U eShop on 11th April, the developer announced on its Facebook page.It came out in February on XBLA, PC and the North American Wii U eShop and PSN. The PC version costs £11.99, so presumably the Wii U one will cost the same, or thereabouts. Vita and iOS versions are due this summer, and the EU PSN version is still to be dated. Our Simon Parkin quite liked Gaijin's latest rhythmic auto-runner. "Its true treasure is to be found in the marriage of rhythm and platforming - an inventive concoction shrouded in the guise of a plain auto-runner," said Parkin in his 8/10 Runner2 review. "Future Legend of Rhythm Alien may be a pre-emptively boastful title, but in its quiet, unassuming way, Gaijin Games has once again struck gold."

The much anticipated cross-region play update for Monster Hunter 3 will be released on April 15, Capcom has confirmed. The patch goes live in both US and Europe simultaneously April 15 at 5pm Pacific, which works out as April 16 at 1am UK time.Once installed, Europe and US servers will be merged, allowing players in both regions to play together in games of up to four players. This signals a complete u-turn on Capcom's original plan to region-lock the game's multiplayer component, to the disappointment of fans and even Capcom USA's own community man Yuri L. Araujo, who publicly admitted, "I'm not thrilled with the servers being split either."The update will also add compatibility with Wii U's off-TV play feature, allowing for full gameplay to be transferred to the GamePad screen.Capcom admitted in its original announcement that this update comes entirely as a result of "very loud and clear" community feedback.Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was released for Wii U and 3DS in Europe on March 22, and North America on March 19 via both retail and digital (eShop) outlets.

It will now hit retail in September on Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360.Meanwhile, the online challenge mode promised to disappointed Wii U fans is due later this month. 505 Games believes its Ashes game will outperform all previous cricket titles thanks to a double helping of tournaments.
The timings of this year’s Ashes means the UK publisher will be able to maintain sales momentum throughout the year as, for the first time, there will be two Ashes tournaments held back-to-back.
“Any Ashes year provides a bumper sales opportunity for cricket games as Codemasters saw back in 2009,” UK and export marketing director Alison Greagsby told MCV. “2013 is a very unique year for the Ashes with two series back-to-back. So there are two sales windows to exploit.
“The talk around the Ashes tournament itself is building across mainstream sports media, we’re seeing an unprecedented level of interest from the worldwide cricket audience.”
Ashes Cricket 2013 is due for release on 360, PS3, Wii U and PC on June 21st.

You know those goofy tennis racket peripherals that allow for Wiimote insertion? Or, perhaps more sensibly, those Guitar Hero axes that wouldn't function without a Wiimote planted at the heart? Looks as if Nintendo's going to do us all one better. Based on a rambling new patent granted to the Big N this week, the company now holds the power to concoct a "remotely controlled mobile device control system." Distilled down, the verbiage describes a Wiimote-type controller being embedded within a "remote controlled toy," which would then be (unsurprisingly) used in conjunction with a game console. Essentially, this opens the door for Honda to develop a new variant of ASIMO that takes commands via an embedded Wii controller... or, for a Wii-infused robot to turn on its owner and commit unspeakable crimes against humanity. But hey, it'll probably be pretty cute.

The next 12 months will be amongst the biggest in Pokémon history, says The Pokémon Company.
The firm is gearing up to launch multiple new games, a new TV series, events, a film and new toys throughout 2013, all climaxing in the launch of Pokémon X and Y on 3DS this October: the first ever worldwide release of a major Pokémon game.
The firm also says it has ‘cleared the decks’ in terms of licensing, and Tomy International has been brought onboard to ensure that everyone around the world gets the same toys as the ones out in Japan.
“Undoubtedly 2013 is a key year for us to grow and usher in a new era for Pokémon with Pokémon X and Pokémon Y and the introduction of new characters as the launch platform,” The Pokémon Company International’s marketing director Anthony Cornish told MCV.
“We believe these games will appeal to all generations both veterans and newcomers to Pokémon.”
But before the launch of X and Y, Nintendo will release Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity in Europe on Friday, May 17th. And the firm will this month launch a Skylanders-style toy/game hybrid called Pokémon Rumble U in Japan, although there’s currently no word on a European release yet.
