It's the archetypal jackpot story of flea markets, pawn shops and antiques roadshows. Someone pays a few dollars for a long-forgotten box at a swap meet and then discovers they have a five-figure rarity on their hands. That describes a North Carolina woman today, who purchased one of the rarest video games ever sold in the United States for $7.99 at a local Goodwill.
Wilder Hamm, the owner of Save Point Video Games in Charlotte N.C., met this woman this morning when he opened his store. He held the box and saw its contents: Stadium Events.
"Oh my God!" Hamm said he blurted, when she showed him the box. "She knew exactly what she had," Hamm told Kotaku. She showed it to him last, after presenting some common titles like 10-Yard Fight and The Karate Kid, before rolling out Stadium Events like a $15,000 punchline.
It worked.
"Normally in this business, we try not to show our cards," Hamm said. "We're not in the business of ripping people off but, you show that kind of excitement, they start expecting a mountain of money."
She may get it. Stadium Events, one of the first exergaming titles, was only released in a test market in the northern United States in 1987. The next year, Nintendo bought the North American rights to its "Family Fun Fitness" mat, which then became the more well known Power Pad. Anything under the Family Fun Fitness brand was supposed to have been destroyed.
The box Hamm saw most certainly wasn't. It's in great shape, and so is the game's instructions and its cart. The box still had the plastic on it, though it had been slit so that the box top could be opened and the contents verified.
"She knew exactly what she had," said Hamm, who held and inspected the cart himself. "When I asked her what she expected to get, she said she expected $7,000 to $15,000, which is on target."

There is a new Holy Grail of Rare Video Games, and it is Stadium Events. The auction on a… Read…
If the plastic had not been cut—if it was truly sealed in the box—Hamm had no idea what it would be worth then. "Our price for the cartridge alone is $2,800, should we have it for any reason." In 2010, a sealed-in-the-box copy of Stadium Events listed on eBay drew a winning bid of $41,300.

Wii U owners will have to wait a tiny bit longer to get their hands on Warner’s Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Fortunately, the delay is only a slight one – the game will arrive a week later than originally planned on Wii U on April 26th, as confirmed by CVG. The reason for the change is unknown.
Wii U owners are also missing out on the Special editions of the game
The Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of the game are still set to arrive in the UK this Friday (April 19th).
Injustice: Gods Among Us sees a host of DC superheroes such as Superman, Batman and The Flash face off in a range of spectacular settings. It’s built on the same engine as Warner’s Mortal Kombat reboot.

Nintendo appears to be on the verge of releasing a brand new 3DS SKU in the UK.
Joystiq says that retailer ShopTo was yesterday carrying a listing for the Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS XL bundle that was previously released in Japan.
The SKU reportedly contained the patterned 3DS (as pictured above) and a 4GB SD card. It was on sale for £190.
The listing has since been removed.
Nintendo has scheduled a Nintendo Direct broadcast for tomorrow. Odds on the new hardware being revealed then?
Animal Crossing: New Leaf is due out in the UK on June 14th.

A new set of near field communication-enhanced toys for the Wii U action game Pokémon Scramble U will come to Japan on May 25. The game has yet to be announced for release worldwide, but it's a Pokémon game, so you should expect it.
The second series of toys includes Eevee, Mewtwo, Croagunk, Zoroark, Litwick, and Genesect, and one secret unannounced Pokémon. The NFC figures add playable characters to the game, much in the style of Skylanders.
In the Pokémon Rumble/Scramble games, all of the playable Pokemon are actually wind-up toy Pokémon – which means these figures are toy versions of toys.

Analyst forecasts yet another bad month of sales in the US for Nintendo's console and says even a price cut wouldn't be enough to help
[h=3]Nintendo of America[/h]
The NPD Group will report its US video game retail data this Thursday, and in a preview note Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter commented that he's expecting Nintendo to post yet another weak month of Wii U sales. For the Wii U's fifth month on the market, he's forecasting that Nintendo sold just 55,000 units, which would represent a 17 percent decline month-over-month. Moreover, Pachter's expecting this slide to continue for Wii U, even if Nintendo chooses to implement a price cut.
"The only key hardware device to underperform our expectations was the Wii U," Pachter said of last month's numbers, "and its fortunes appear unlikely to improve for several months, even if Nintendo decides to drop price, as there are an insufficient number of core titles that are generating interest in the console. We think that core gamers are far more likely to turn their attention to the PS4 (due in the holiday season) and the next Xbox, which we believe will be unveiled before E3 and have a launch alongside that of the PS4, and believe that the long-term appeal of the Wii U will be severely limited by the perception that the PS4 and next Xbox will be much more powerful with greater online integration and multimedia functionality."
And if the pricing on the PS4 and next Xbox is reasonable, it could really put Wii U in a bind, Pachter added: "Should the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft be price competitive, we think that Wii U sales may continue to stagnate." In fact, Pachter believes that next-gen consoles are likely to be subsidized and will therefore look even more affordable to consumers.
"We think that the next-generation consoles will perform a wide range of multimedia functions. We should learn more in the coming months, but we expect the next Xbox to have an IPTV tuner that will allow an MSO to deliver services over the Internet outside of the MSO's regulated geographic boundaries. If we are right, any of Microsoft's MSO partners will have an incentive to subsidize the purchase of the next Xbox in exchange for a long-term service commitment (similar to the cell phone model). If the subsidies are steep, it is likely that the next Xbox will appear more affordable to many consumers than currently anticipated, and it may capture market share faster than many expect. We don't expect Sony to sit idly by watching, and believe that the PS4 will follow Microsoft's lead in short order, suggesting to us that next-generation consoles could have lower starting prices than any in history," he said.
As for March retail game sales overall, Pachter expects the numbers to be up slightly (just one percent) thanks to big AAA releases like Gears of War: Judgment, Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite.

Zelda Classic started out as a Zelda engine-clone. Thanks to the applications growing community it now supports a variety of custom levels and complete Zelda-themed games. Linked to the Past is one such game with a nod towards the SNES classic, featuring time travel and Zelda 1 influences.
Features:
- 30 different dungeons!
- Solid 30 hours of gameplay
- Every single dungeon is guarded by a custom boss, and there are also a few sub-bosses thrown in for good measure, so I hope you enjoy fighting bosses as much as I do
- Many optional secrets to find
- The quest takes influences from several Zelda games but the biggest influence is still Zelda 1, so if you're a Zelda 1 hater, this is probably not for you

KingMike has released an updated translation patch for Magna Braban for the SNES. While the old 06/06/06 06:06 patch has some sentimental value, this new version should be compatible with accurate emulators. This translation might’ve kept Gideon’s original DTE routine, but otherwise all other translation coding has been redone. This code is a comparatively cleaner hack, though the text banks were recopied from the original patch, so the text is pretty much unchanged. While a full playthrough of this patch hasn’t been done, it has been tested that all code and menu modifications are working. This version translates a hidden feature found that can display enemy names in battle, whereas they weren’t translated in the original patch. Not all names have been checked yet, but as that is more of an “omake” feature (AFAIK it can only be seen with a PAR code), it was decided it shouldn’t hold up a patch released.
Additionally, KingMike has released a new patch that inserts the credits into the ending of Time Zone for the NES. If one hasn’t played it, it’s a cartoony sidescroller that kind of resembles Panic Restaurant. Might have even been by the same people. Back when the first patch was released in 2001 it was beyond his ability to insert the credits, then forgotten for over a decade. The rest of the script is unchanged.

Aeon Genesis has released a complete translation for the SNES RPG based on Stardust Crusaders, the third arc of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga. The game is fairly short and is of the approximate quality one would expect from a license cash-in, but it’s an interesting diversion. The readme contains some gameplay tips, so be sure to peruse!

Mobile puzzle hit Puzzle & Dragons, in which players build teams of monsters and explore dungeons, leading them into combat through color-matching puzzles, is coming to 3DS this winter, according to scans of CoroCoro Magazine found by Siliconera.
The 3DS version, called Puzzle & Dragons Z, features 200 different monsters to battle with. The nature of the release is as yet unknown – the mobile versions are free-to-play, but that is exceptionally rare on 3DS (approximately zero games ever have used the model on the platform).
