Eidos Montreal didn't mess around when it came to fixing one of the most widely criticized aspects of Deus Ex: Human Revolution in the upcoming Wii UDirector's Cut.
"The boss fights are now as they should have been," Emile Pedneault, game designer on the Director's Cut told us today at PAX East. "We took them and completely rebuilt them. We couldn't change [the boss' character] model and the way they need to die because of the story telling, but we changed the level layout. We tweaked their AI and we've added tons of ways to deal with them."
He continued, "You can deal with a boss fight in a stealth way, you can deal with a boss fight in a hacking way. We even have for each boss fight a way to kill them without firing a single bullet."
Pedneault showed us the first boss fight, pointing out all the different ways that it could now be completed using other skills beyond "throw every grenade in your inventory and just keep shooting." There are several corridors now for stealth attacks and turrets for hacking, along with other goodies for players to discover.
The boss fights were widely criticized when Deus Ex: Human Revolutionoriginally launched, with Eidos Montreal eventually admitting it farmed out that portion of the game to an outside developer. Deus Ex DLC "The Missing Link," bundled with the Wii U version, designed in-house at Eidos Montreal gave a far more flexible experience.

Renegade Kid is most recently known for the side-scroller Mutant Mudds, but initially came to prominence with Dementium and Moon, both first-person shooters for DS. The developer is returning to its handheld horror roots withCult County, a new FPS for 3DS unveiled at PAX East.
The developer posted some 3D images on its website, which you can see by going here with your 3DS browser, or using the QR code here. The page notes that these images are from an early "atmosphere" demo. The atmosphere is, it would appear, dusty.

It may not be a new game, but Capcom is celebrating Mega Man's 25th anniversary with a collectible statue, which it announced during its PAX Eastpanel this weekend. Capcom offered a few photos and details about the statue, which you can view in the gallery below.
The collectible character stands at 10 inches tall, and is made by Multiverse Studios. It features USB-powered LED lights on the statue's base as well as Mega Man's helmet and arm cannon. Capcom hasn't said exactly how many will be produced, but there will be under 2,000 of them made. It will go on sale exclusively at San Diego Comic Con in July.

Hyperkin has developed a reputation for modern takes on legendary game consoles that are often better than the real thing. If true, its just-unveiled Retron 5 is a nostalgia singularity. The hardware emulator can use its namesake five cartridge slots to play original games from no less than nine vintage consoles, including the Genesis(Megadrive), NES (Famicom), SNES (Super Famicom) and GameBoys from the original through to the GameBoy Advance. It keeps going: there's a custom Bluetooth controller that can handle every system, mix-and-match original controller support, save states and upscaling for both video (to 720p, through HDMI) as well as audio. While we'll have to see just how well the Retron 5 works whenever it exists as more than a conceptual graphic, that opportunity may come quickly when Hyperkin is tentatively shooting for a July release at less than $100. About all that's left for a follow-up Retron are Jaguar and Turbografx 16 slots -- pretty please?

Nintendo's Wii U is currently on sale for an all-time low price on the UK High Street.
HMV is selling the Wii U Premium bundle including copies of both NintendoLand and Ubisoft's ZombiU for just £199.99. That's a £140 discount on the RRP.
In-store POS confirming the price was spotted by MCV reader Andy James at the chain's Stoke on Trent store. Of course, with HMV in dire straights and its gaming aspirations up for question, the price could in part be driven by a desire to empty warehouses of video games stock.
The price significantly undercuts GameStop's £244.97 – the previous lowest price the machine was available for.
The move comes after MCV yesterday revealed that retailers are increasingly dissatisfied with the console's performance in the UK.
“We have taken the decision to reduce the price of the Basic Wii U to test the market and assess the impact of a price change for a short period of time,” ShopTo purchasing director James Rowson stated. “This has resulted in a smaller than desired increase in sales at this stage.”
UPDATE: CVG has word that the price promotion will begin on Monday March 25th and run for as long as stock lasts.

March 23rd, 2013, 23:02 Posted By: wraggster
Finally the Western media seems to have understood Japan’s favourite game. Despite countless million domestic sales on 3DS, PSP, Wii, Wii U, PS3 and PS2, and a whole genre of hunting-action rip-off games, Capcom’s Monster Hunter series has garnered a passionate but small following in Europe and North America, with many of the entries never even being localised. But the European release of Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate on Wii U and 3DS this week has seen a raft of reverent reviews. Edge gave it a 8, and other specialist outlets scored it similarly highly. Even dailies such as The Telegraph have sung its praises, with a well-informed 4/5 review touting the game as “essential”.In Japan, Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is already old hat. The 3DS version was released as Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G in December 2011, and fans had already clocked up hundreds of hours of play by the time the HD version was released as a Wii U launch title in December (with a special Ultimate bundle in addition to the Basic and Deluxe models you got in the West).Indeed, hunters in Japan had been expecting to be playing Monster Hunter 4 on 3DS around now, until the release was pushed back to summer 2013. Those of us who played a demo of the forthcoming title at Tokyo Game Show 2012 noted a host of new character moves that lend more of an action feel, as well as new and enhanced weapons – and new monsters to bloody them on. Who knows, if Ultimate’s newfound positive media spin in the West translates to actual sales, you may eventually get Monster Hunter 4 too.Monster Hunter creator-producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Kaname Fujioka are presumably now in crunch mode for Monster Hunter 4, as they’ve given few interviews to the Japanese media these past couple of months. Fujioka told Famitsu last September that he was happy with fan feedback from the TGS demo of its latest project. “Although we’ve added new features such as being able to jump, long-time players seemed to find the game comfortable to play,” he said. It’s just as well, because these more nimble action elements will likely be a big part of the next Monster Hunter, refreshing the series for millions of devoted gamers. “This time, rather than wanting to stop and look around the field, we hope to craft it in such a way that players will want to run around and explore,” said Tsujimoto. Players will also be able to attack while climbing walls or even clamber onto a monster’s back for a dose of close-up violence.

Via MCV
Nintendo UK has pledged to meet with retailers worried about the performance of its Wii U games console.
Growing dissatisfaction towards the new hardware has seen retailers Amazon, Asda, ShopTo and GameStop slash £50 off its price. But even that has failed to stimulate sales.
“We have taken the decision to reduce the price of the Basic Wii U to test the market and assess the impact of a price change for a short period of time,” ShopTo purchasing director James Rowson told MCV. “This has resulted in a smaller than desired increase in sales at this stage.”
Meanwhile, some chains have told MCV that it will be ‘looking at’ the amount of shelf space it gives to Nintendo platforms.
“Currently Nintendo has not lost space, but their mix of sales is down,” says a top buyer at one of the UK’s biggest games retailers. “We are looking to reduce slightly but must admit their silence on strategy is deafening at the moment. They’ve got to do something otherwise it is GameCube all over again.”
Nintendo has told MCV that it has a plan to stimulate Wii U’s performance in the UK. And that it will meet all its retail partners in the coming weeks to reveal its strategy.
“We’ll be speaking to our retailers directly over the next few weeks to take them through our plans for building Wii U momentum over the course of 2013,” said a Nintendo spokesperson. “We have a strong and broad line-up of software launching this year and we look forward to updating – and exciting – our partners over the coming weeks.”
Wii U has suffered from a poor release schedule since debut. This week marks the first new software from Nintendo for the platform since January. Releases include LEGO City and Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate.

Of course the sassy answer to any retailer telling you Wii U is ‘GameCube all over again’ is ‘What? Some of the most praised first-party games ever and the world’s most refined home console?’
But in this day and age, a handful of decent games and a good bit of kit doesn’t cut it. Despite great reviews, the critics are ready to write the Wii U obituary already.
Hopefully, Nintendo’s imminent efforts to work with UK retail and reverse the downward momentum will bear fruit.
Retail has had real cause for concern, though. The sales just haven’t been there. Sure, other publishers can get more money out of a smaller base of dedicated fans, but Nintendo can’t because there aren’t enough games for its users to buy.
These broad issues around Wii U aren’t the fault of the UK office, which is now charged with exciting retailers once more.
There have been some baffling choices higher up the chain.
Most telling for me was when the firm used a Nintendo Direct broadcast to apologise for lacking post-launch games. “The scope of development is getting larger. We cannot take on the same approaches we had in the past,” said president Iwata.
"Maybe now is the time for Mr Iwata to dig deeper
into Nintendo’s pockets. Not to find money to
write-off Wii U, but spend on more internal
development, spend again on large-scale
marketing, cushion the blow of a price cut,
or even simply buy something." Has the company not been paying attention at all in the current generation? Did it completely miss the uprising of small games from indies and on mobile? Or the 3DS launch? Was it oblivious to Ubisoft’s impressive use of seven studios at a time to heave-ho! the likes of Assassin’s Creed onto shelves each year?
Nintendo HQ is now dipping into its ocean of profits, paying third-parties to plug the gaps in its slate. Luigi’s Mansion 2, LEGO City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3, for instance, are not from its Kyoto braintrust.
Maybe now is the time for Mr Iwata to dig deeper into Nintendo’s pockets. Not to find money to write-off Wii U, but spend on more internal development, spend again on large-scale marketing, cushion the blow of a price cut, or even simply buy something.
People shouldn’t want to see Nintendo fail. Because when Nintendo does well, the games industry does well. Its mission to widen the games population is crucial to everyone.
Despite the obvious pressures and distractions of digital, there’s a Nintendo-shaped hole in the market Nintendo needs to fill. Its latest current crisis has come at the same time as an overall dip in the market’s fortunes. I don’t think this is a coincidence. And neither should you.

Nintendo has finally removed the faintly ridiculous age gate imposed on european eShop customers.Prior to today, 18+ rated games such as ZombiU could only be purchased between 11pm and 3am due to legal issues stemming from Nintendo of Europe being located in Germany.“Following analysis of the Parental Controls system on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in cooperation with USK, the German Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body, it was deemed that Nintendo’s Parental Control system was found to have proved itself in practice,” Nintendo told European customers.

Square Enix has officially confirmed Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut for Wii U.
Furthermore, it describes the release as offering “striking visual improvements” that make SKU the “best looking” version available.
This statement likely does not refer to the already lovely PC version, but is still impressive if the game has bested the visuals seen in the 2011 Xbox 360 and PS3 outings.
It will also include overhauled boss fights – a move designed to appease those who were critical of the boss battles found in the original release.
Being a Director’s Cut release it will also include developer commentaries and in-game guides, while special use of the Wii U’s GamePad is of course a given. It will also offer Miiverse integration.
The publisher has said that the Director’s Cut release will not appear on any other systems.

A recent retail promotion that saw Wii U drop to an all-new low price has been extended.
GameStop last Friday announced a deal that saw the 32GB Premium Wii U available for just £244.97. However, the retailer has now said that it has extended the offer “while stocks last”.
GameStop has previously admitted to disappointing sales of the Wii U, with president Tony Bartel stating: “Following the holiday launch period, sales have been slower than we expected. Nintendo plans on launching some of their biggest IP over the next few months which we think will increase gamer interest.
“Software will play a big role in each console’s success over the holidays. We’re already seeing great developer and publisher support for PS4, so Wii U will need some great titles, especially first-party titles, to compete. There’s also a need to increase consumer awareness of the new features available on the Wii U and its tethered tablet features.”
The retailer also has a promotion running on Microsoft’s the Halo 4 Limited Edition Xbox 360 S console that can currently be had for £214.97 – that’s a £45 discount on the previous price.

Publisher Square Enix has confirmed that Wii U is getting an exclusive Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, promising the “best looking” version so far. We’re not convinced the “striking visual improvements’ promised by the company will outshine the PC version of the game, but exceeding the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases shouldn’t be an impossible task. It’s been co-developed by Straight Right, the studio that handled the Wii U version of Mass Effect.More promising than that, though, is the news that the director’s cut will feature overhauled boss battles, though exactly how they’ve been overhauled is as yet unclear. The controversial, outsourced segmentscaused ire among players when the game was released.Director’s Cut will, of course, also feature a raft of bonus features, including developer commentaries, in-game guides, the Missing Link DLC, a New Game+ mode and GamePad functionality.“The first thing we said when we decided to make a version for the Wii U was that we didn’t want to do a port. That’s really important,” executive game director Jean-François Dugas tells Official Nintendo Magazine during an interview in the next issue, out April 10. “It was not about, ‘Oh yes, just put it on there and that’s the end of the story,’ that would have been disrespectful for the fans and it would have been disrespectful for the Nintendo fans.“For us, it was important that we were envisioning an ultimate version in which a lot of modifications would be made, and also lots of new content would be added as well. So it was important to find a company that would think like us and would want to go the extra mile to make this version the ultimate version of the game.”

Shovel Knight will make its way to Wii U and 3DS if it reaches its Kickstarter funding goal. The game was previously announced for PC. Shovel Knight is in development at Yacht Club Games, a group of WayForward (Aliens: Infestation,BloodRayne: Betrayal) expats, who are currently at $32,000 of a $75,000 goal, with 25 days to go.
For those who want a Wii U or 3DS copy of the game, they'll have to pledge $15 of more, instead of the $10 that'll net a PC copy. Why? Yacht Club says it's due to the extra costs involved in console development (they aren't fibbing), like paying Nintendo for download codes, along with dev kits and certification requirements.
If you're heading to PAX East this week, Shovel Knight should be on display and the devs tell us they are "hopeful" it'll be playable.

505 Games has dated upcoming release Ashes Cricket 2013.
The game will be released on June 21st on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. That gives it plenty of run-up time in preparation for the commencement of the Ashes itself on July 10th.
The game features a number of dynamic features such as seaming wickets, deteriorating pitches and changeable weather that reflect real-life scenarios – cloudy days will favour bowlers, for instance, while a dry sunny day is good for batsmen.
“We are delighted to be able to announce some of the key features for Ashes Cricket 2013,” 505 Games’ general manager for UK and export Ralph Pitt-Stanley stated.
“This game has been created with real cricket fans and players in mind. The new engine allows players to mimic a cricketers most important attribute, his technique.”
