Dswifi - delayed! woohoo!
Sorry guys, but I didn’t get around to writing the improvements I alluded to and completing a new lib last weekend - I realize we’re now near the end of the wifi game coding compo, and I don’t really have time still to get out a new version in time. Rather than stress everyone and release a new lib at the last minute, I’ve decided to attempt the release again this weekend (saturday) and in the meantime I encourage anyone entering in the ndshb wifi game compo to get the latest version from CVS and compile it (latest version as of well, last week) for use in your entry rather than using the last actual library release. If for whatever reason you can’t compile the lib, I may be able to help you out and provide an actual compiled lib of the latest CVS source.
Anyway, I’m just far too bogged down with work at the moment, but I’m looking forward with great interest to the results of the upcoming competition - again, good luck all

Somewhere in the land of Spain, Nintendo held one hell of an event without anyone else on the planet seeming to notice. RevoGamers.net were some of the lucky ones invited, and managed to chronicle the event with pictures and a short video.
As we can see in the picture to the right, the Wiimote has once again gone through some minor design alterations. First, the + and - buttons have returned to their original "return arrow" and pause versions, as seen in hardware shots prior to E3 2006. The Wii logo on the bottom of the remote has disappeared, for reasons unknown. Finally, however, is the attachment of a wrist-strap for the remote, which is a wonderful idea considering the motions required in games like Wii tennis and the, ah...expensive TV sets around the room. With any luck, a similar strap will come bundled with the system and remote.
But that's not all. There are pictures of the back of the Wiimote without batteries, some sleek sensor bar close-ups, and a bitchin' wall mural for Wii Sports. The event seems very classy and much more relaxed than E3.

White X posted this Nintendo DS Game Review:
Fifa World Cup 2006
FWC 2006 is the second of its breed on the DS, it comes with all the National teams
that can appear on a World Cup, once again a full 3D presentation, very similar to the first one
Presentation/graphics 5
Not so many teams as Fifa 06, however a better overall presentation on this one.
A 3D map shows the countries and there are more instant, non interactive replays to go
with the interactive ones, the Crowds are animated now and the players seem to have a
larger poly count, However everything comes with a cost...
Music/sound effects 7
Also back are the real songs, however more ethnical to reflect the various countries
involved on the WC, the comments are from a different voice, higher pitched, richer but more annoying.
No option to get music ingame again.
Gameplay 4
Here´s where the cookie crumbles, first, all the eye candy comes priced with a hell of a slowdown, even
on the mid field with not so many players, the game slows down to a crawl, that in conjunction with the
next issue makes this game a letdown.
Second, remember when i emphasized the arcade qualities of Fifa 06, well, this one have a little turn
to the reality, you see, on most football games when a player have the ball, it "sticks" to him, even if
he stops running, the ball stops with him, well, not here.
On FWC 2006 the ball is an entity into the field with it´s own physics, so if a player stops running,
the ball keeps going,
if you use the faster running, you kick the ball with more power, it goes further and you lose the "time" to pass it or kick it.
Now combine this with slowdown, CRAPTASTIC.
DS factor 6
There is the interactive replay controlled on the touch screen, a customizable team that you get to draw its emblem, team tactics selected "on the fly" with the lower screen, the 3d engine, it is quite a complete package of DS football.
Nothing new here, keep going...Wait, instead a complete package, you get a rushed job to get a better game with the same engine.
Learning curve 6
You will learn just fine in 15 minutes, the thing is try to pass when the game stutter and the ball outrunned you, this will take some 5 hours of you.
Lasting appeal/game modes 5
Less teams, worst gameplay, slowdowns, even with a good assortment of game modes, you will not spend much time around this one.
Final considerations
It should be a better game but it is not, keep Fifa 06 and play with international teams.

White X Posted this DS Game review:
Tony Hawk´s American Sk8land
THAS is the first Tony´s DS game, it is presented in full 3D, with one of
the most powerfull engines that ever graced the DS, Vicarious Vision´s Alchemy.
With good music and an unique graphical experience, THAS is a good one to hold on if you are a fan of virtual Skateboarding.
Presentation/graphics 9
I only gave nine because i do not know what God holds in store for the DS,
the graphics on this game are amazing, more so considering that it´s quite old now.
THAS is a full 3d game with the camera on the back of the character, it has some sort of Cartoon look to it, but fear not, it is very fitting to the atmosphere and runs very fast too.
The game has also a lot of content, a classic mode that comes back to the old school Tony Hawk, real music and a lot of DS gimmicks to keep you going.
The only shame are the NPC´s that are mostly the same dudes with different colors.
Music/sound effects 10
Real music in a varied assortment, good and fitting sound effects, you can even record your own "good" and "bad" sounds, the songs play clear and help to build the experience.
Gameplay 7
It is the same old, same old, but with a double screen touch, you get a button for the lip trick, one for the grab...and so on, combining the tricks is very easy and after a good combo and a bail, you get to "Freak out" and recover some of the points.
The ability to walk is over and the game is kinda too easy, you walk around a set place, doing errands, showing you skills until you do a number of things, than a famous skater asks you to do one thing and the stage is over, none of the things they ask are particularly difficult till later in the game and the "natas spin" takes the fun out of a big combo.
DS factor 8
You can draw the bottom of your board, record your voice, see the map on the lower screen, the game is 3D, battle over Wi-Fi, another complete package, the only thing is that the touchscreen tricks sometimes get confused to make due to small icons piled up on top of each other.
Learning curve 7
You will be doing nice tricks and combos in no time, but will take some time of you to discover how to do some of the biggest combo scores. I´d say 15 minutes to learn, 3 hours to tame.
Lasting appeal/game modes 8
Story and classic modes can take a huge chunk of your gaming time, classic is Tony Hawk as before THPS 4, story is the main mode and you can skate online too, so if you like skateboarding games, this one can give you
a good run for your money.
Final considerations
An overall good game, a little old now but worth to get if you ever liked the Tony Hawk experience and perfect to build up the Hype towards
TH´s Downhill Jam.

White X Posted this DS Game review:
Magnetica
Description
Magnetica is a puzzler based on the same school of the game called Zuma,
where you want to make combos of same colored balls on a a circling trail
by shooting balls in the middle.
Presentation/graphics 5
The graphics do their job, i mean, it is a 2d puzzler, nothing more.
The balls are vibrant and multicolored and very well "animated" as they roll
through a "Dreamcast swirl" type of trail and similar ones, the backgrouns are
almost all of them silver to give the impression of metal, no story, no cutscenes like Meteos and no different ball design.
Music/sound effects 7
The Music is some futuristic beat, kinda Megaman-ish like, fits the metallic set up
and is easy to forget, that in case of a puzzler is a good thing.
The sound effects are like the graphics, fitting, but nothing to go Yee-haw! about.
Gameplay 8
Here´s the meat of the game, you see, you must shoot the ball from the middle with the stylus
to meet other balls with the same color as they roll towards the center, when you succeed on
pairing it up with two others, they disappear and if the the balls surrounding the ones that vanished are
same coloured, they get atracted to each other forming combos.
The stylus control is precise and fast, although only on challenge mode you can select a left handed mode,
much to my demise, being a lefty myself.
As all puzzlers, it gets hard really fast but it is fun nonetheless.
DS factor 6
It utilizes the touchscreen for everything, however, no other "DS only" capabilities are used and the
upper screen is nothing but a score keeper, well, it is nice for a clean battlefield though.
Learning curve 7
A moment to learn, a lifetime to dominate...Seriously, you´ll be playing in seconds because it is very intuitive, however, on puzzle mode you will bang your head a little bit.
Lasting appeal/game modes 9
As all puzzlers, you may want to play it once in a while and it never gets old on small sessions
of gameplay.
There´s the almost endless challenge mode, the puzzle mode, that gives you a set number and color of balls to kill a built scenario and the quest mode that place you against more variations of the trail design and has a stage like progresion.
Final considerations
Nice game, although not as good as Meteos, i recommend to rent it first.

White X Posted this DS Game review:
I have refined my review scheme, hope you guys like it...
Fifa 06
Fifa 06 is the first iteration of the long running Fifa football franchise
on the DS hardware, it sports a full 3D engine and a plethora of teams for you to choose
and play from the get go or onto championships and other forms of gameplay.
I know that there is a game released for the World Cup, i´ll review this one first
and use this game to compare to the other one.
Presentation/graphics 8
A very good presentation on this one, many teams to choose, weather conditions,
gameplay scenarios, interactive replays and many other gimmicks to make the experience richer.
The graphics are very well presented with a full 3d engine and well animated characters, they are not very
beautiful, but are well animated.
This game reminded me of Fifa 99 for the Nintendo 64, so expect that kind of graphic quality.
There is almost no lag even on rainy and icy fields, the players try to mimic their real life counterparts,
at least the most recognizable ones, and there are cool "TV broadcast" kind of effects when you get a replay.
Music/sound effects 7
There´s an assortment of real music, i believe that one of the songs is from Oasis and the ingame comments are
nice and very clear with a nice british accent, the crowd roar is that same old nameless team cheering, i really wanted the
ability to turn off crowds and have ingame music, but there´s no such thing.
Gameplay 6
Very easy and arcade like, B for passing, A for shooting, Y for long passing and so on...
Oh! and the ball "sticks" to the player, very arcade like.
Two things are to be let out in the open, even on the most easy difficulty setting, the Ref is extremely against
sliding tackles, you will most likely get a foul on every one till you figure a way to do it safely and there is a
stamina bar that runs under the player´s name, it depletes very quckly, so you kinda pass the ball more than you may want.
DS factor 8
There is the interactive replay controlled on the touch screen, a customizable team that you get to draw its emblem,
team tactics selected "on the fly" with the lower screen, the 3d engine, it is quite a complete package of DS football.
Learning curve 9
15 minutes to learn, 2 hours to really learn.
Lasting appeal/game modes 9
There are many teams and scenarios to keep you busy, you can quick play a match against a team of your choosing, undertake
a championship, build a career around your very own customized team or tackle a real "no win" situation that a real team overcame,
are you up to the task?
Final considerations
It is a good game, it entertains, lasts long, is easy on the eyes, it is good to revisit and it is World Cup time!

I've seen some pretty dubious "breaking news" in my day, but drunken officials revealing console launch dates? *Cough*... Well, why not, we'll play along with it. So, as the story goes, a thirsty Nintendo rep apparently had too much Sake to drink and, in his ethylic euphoria, hinted that the Wii would launch on October 30 in Japan, and ten days later in the US and Europe. So much for simultaneous worldwide release then? That's certainly not what Nintendo had us thinking!
There's still a couple of months left until September - when Nintendo said it would officially announce further Wii launch details - so expect plenty more fabricated stories and speculations until then. Because that's probably what this is, so you'd better take it with a grain of salt. Or a shot of sake, whichever suits you best!
In the meantime, the latest issue of Nintendo Power announced at least six titles to launch on day one of the Wii's release - out of the total "around 20" launch titles previously claimed by Nintendo. Oddly enough, there's no mention of Wii Sports or Super Mario Galaxy yet, even though both of them looked pretty well at last month's E3. The only six games mentioned are as follows:
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo)
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Nintendo)
- Red Steel (Ubisoft)
- Rayman Raving Rabbids (Ubisoft)
- Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (SEGA)
- Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Square Enix)
