walaber posted a new release of his DS game:
Just a few fixes in this version... probably nothing that fixes compatibility b/c I simply can't reproduce the bugs here. This version adds a few new Complete levels, and also fixes the slowdown that could happen in Complete and EggDrop.

Having reportedly shifted 35,000 DS Lites in the console’s opening weekend, Nintendo UK has revealed it has a £6 million marketing warchest readied to push the handheld ahead of bitter rival PSP over the summer.
Nintendo UK marketing director Dawn Paine told MCV this week that its unique games line-up and promotional plans will mean that the summer months will be far from quiet. “For us summer is like anyone else’s peak season,” she said. “Sometimes we’re in the situation where the only competition is our own products.”

News from our friends at Emulation 64
Low Lines brings some news about his Flash/XML Based Compatibility List for Nintendo DS:
In case you don't know there has been a lot of work happening in the DS Emulation Forum on emulator compatibility with two emulators in particular (iDeaS & DeSmuME).
Well I have gone and made the effort off creating a Flash/XML based database that has many useful options such as searching and ordering of list data. Though it is still a WIP, it has very much progressed and is really easy to use.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
This site and compatibility database REQUIRES the Flash 8 Web Browser Plugin. And at the moment I don't think it works on Linux Operating Systems. But I do not have Linux so somebody may need to verify this with me. Also your browsers may come up with security warnings (as I quickly found out) or may in deed block it completely (particularily with embeded URLs) but there is no bugs or spyware or anything, it's just Microsoft & Macromedia being paranoid!! LOL
This is my site...

Following our earlier news of the ex-British colony called Canada trumping us in the 'celebs hosting games awards' stakes, we have some further news of how our ex-Colonial cousins are beating us in showing off their hardcore love of video games.
This 9ft tall replica of everyone's favourite plumber Mario currently stands proudly in the centre of Young & Dundas Square in down town Toronto.
The sculpture has been built entirely out of non-perishable canned food to celebrate TODAY'S release of "New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS and to support "The Daily Bread Foodbank"
This awesome feat of architectural engineering weighs in at over 2600 pounds and is made of about 4000 individual cans and a couple of bags of SmartFood Popcorn.
Nintendo Canada's PR agency deserve a massive Mario shaped medal for making things like this happen. We want to see a huge Mario made out of buns or burgers or lager tins or something slap bang in the middle of Trafalgar Square. Come on Nintendo UK. Make it happen!

Need for Speed Carbon, the latest in EA's street racing series, will not be playable online for Nintendo's new console, Wii.
NFS Carbon will support online play for PS2, Xbox, PS3 and 360, but won't be available to Wii owners, according to US magazine Game Informer.
It has also come to light that Carbon will not make use the motion sensing capabilities of either the Wii remote or the PS3 joypad. Publisher EA apparently has concerns over gamer fatigue, what with will all the hand waving. And we can't have out of breath gamers, now, can we.

Nintendo has announced the establishment of a new wholly owned subsidiary located in Seoul, focusing on localised DS Lite products and paving the way for a new market for the Wii.
The new division is set to open its doors on July 7th, supported by an initial investment of approximately 30 billion Yen (20.5 million Euro). Initial development on Korean language localisation of DS Lite titles is expected to begin as soon as July 20th.
Nintendo's Korean operations will be led by Mineo Kouda, and the company aims to rapidly drive sales of both hardware and software in the region, expanding the reach of the DS Lite and paving the way for a new audience for its forthcoming console, the Nintendo Wii.
Korean consumers have been able to access Nintendo's products for some time now, as trade between the two countries continues to improve. However, a lack of after sales support and no Korean language support for its products has stifled the growth of the Korean market - something which Nintendo is committed to changing with the launch of its new subsidiary.

Red Steel is one Wii title we're really, really looking forward to, because any game which allows you to swing a virtual sword in anger fulfils our long standing dream of engaging in epic sword battles from the comfort of our own living room (but not in any uncool Star Wars kid kind of way you'll understand).
Ahem anyway, Ubi's developers have just started up a blog and the first entry from producer Marie-Sol Beaudry from its Paris studio, details how it will be implementing that crucial sword fighting mechanic with the wonderful Wiimote.
Beaudry begins by saying the game's sword fighting proved a real challenge, but, "We quickly learned that wielding a sword and manipulating the controller was a lot of fun, but we didn't want to force people to become actual professional swordsmen - just have fun.
"Also, we have to consider the animations of the sword and matching it up with what you see on screen. We didn't want any delay whatsoever in response to what was happening with the controller and what you saw on the screen. "
However, Beaudry also acknowledged how important the controller is to anyone making games for the Wii and how it informs pretty much every design decision: "Everything we're doing in the game is directly effected by the controller. This includes everything from level design, overall game design, movement and storyline."
Beaudry teased with one last info nugget too, saying there are a couple of surprises in store for Red Steel players, finishing with the cryptic, "Also the sword fighting is going to offer more diversity in movements and couple of special moves I will not talk about this time."

The site's Q&A section reveals a few bits on what we can and cannot expect from the browser. First, the good. The browser supports full stylus-based controls, for scrolling and jumping between pages, and even for inputting characters through direct handwriting or via a software keyboard. The browser keeps track of previously entered phrases so you won't have to enter them again.
Now for the bad. The browser won't be capable of displaying Flash and PDF, nor will it support video and sound. While you can save bookmarks to your favorite pages, you cannot save images or other elements of pages.

With DS Lite already off to a solid start in the UK and a new GTA release racing to the top of the charts, retail is now pinning its hopes on tomorrow's release of New Super Mario Bros to increase momentum and counter negative impact on consumer spending caused by this weekend's crucial England World Cup match.
A traditional quiet period for retail has been worsened by the transition and the impact of the football tournament currently being held in Germany, with the sales performance in recent weeks described by UK sales monitor ChartTrack as "dire".
Nevertheless, with DS Lite and GTA: Liberty City Stories on PS2 spearheading a minor revival in UK software and hardware sales last week, Mario's DS-exclusive adventure is tipped to provide an additional and timely boost both to DS Lite and the overall market.
"Consumer interest is high for New Super Mario Bros., and all indications are that it could be Nintendo's biggest release so far this year which, considering Animal Crossing's success, is phenomenal," said Steve O'Brien, boss of leading independent retailer Action Replay.
Lite sold through an encouraging 35,000 units in its opening weekend in the UK, and was welcomed with not a little relief by an embattled retail community.
"Sales were in line with positive expectations," HMV head of games Tim Ellis told GamesIndustry.biz. "We sold more of the white model as we have more of it overall, but about ten of our stores ran out of the black by virtue of smaller quantities of stock available. Stores should be fully stocked again shortly, however."
"We think that Nintendo has done a great job in marketing this product and its strong customer appeal clearly caught the imagination of our customers," added GAME's commercial planning manager Alex Vines. "Both colours did very well due to the fact that they appeal to different consumers."
"DS Lite outsold what I anticipated but it didn't set the world alight," offered Action Replay's O'Brien. "We sold out of white, which was the weaker of the two SKUs to start with. Black, initially, was the most popular in our stores. I think Nintendo's done another great job in terms of giving itself another sales spurt."
The arrival of the new system appeared to boost DS software sales, with both Brain Training and Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends moving up the Top 10 in the ChartTrack UK all formats listing, but a direct correlation was not witnessed by everyone.
HMV's Ellis revealed there was a "significant increase in associated software" at the entertainment chain, while O'Brien observed: "The attach rate was extremely low. Even with bundles it was less than 1:1. I'm not convinced that New Super Mario will drive hardware sales unless Nintendo were to bundle the product, which at this stage isn't really necessary.
"I would think that Brain Training Academy is possibly pencilled in to do that job at the beginning of the all important summer holiday period," he added.
The launch of Lite also, notably, failed to impact negatively on sales of the original DS. Sales of the Pink model in particular - popular with female consumers - remained solid.
"Our Nintendogs bundles are still performing consistently well thanks to the DS Lite being targeted at a different customer to that of the original pink and blue consoles," GAME's Vine revealed. With a Pink SKU of Lite confirmed for Japan earlier this week, however, it is surely only a matter of time before the original DS loses its USP in this territory.
Yet despite the hoped-for sales boost Mario is expected to deliver, such optimism could well prove short-lived, with an otherwise bleak release calendar failing to alleviate fears that the tough trading conditions are set to continue over the coming months.
"This summer is all about treading water and waiting for the things that are better to come," added O'Brien. "It's paramount we don't all take our eye off the ball as market share is obviously going to be important when it comes to allocation for new formats. It's almost the worst summer I've ever seen in terms of releases and the consumers' response to them."
