There's nothing quite like seeing a video game bringing families together, even if the above image does look like a page out of a slightly wacked IKEA catalog. Reader Jim has sent in his own entertaining tale about mom and dad proceeding to get hooked and pwn in Wii Sports, particularly bowling, as you can tell from his dad's nice form in the above photo.
Our own parental units were never really sucked in by the glitz and polygon counts of the other consoles, so it's great to see a new generation of gamers getting drawn in by the Wii-novation. Are we every going to declare a moratorium on adding Wii to words? You swear you'll never do it again, and then *bam* there it is. Wii apologize.

Speaking of Hudson, the company has an original map creation contest going on right now in japan. Some interesting entries so far, but nothing really amazing. Apparently you have to download this in order to compete...not quite sure how it all works, considering there's an edit mode built into the game, but I do hope some of these maps wind up as extras in any western version that may result.

The Vic Viper takes flight again today as the NES edition of Konami's arcade shoot-'em-up Gradius has appeared on the Wii's Virtual Console. Acting as the game's wingmen are a pair of TurboGrafx-16 games, the vertically scrolling shooter Soldier Blade, and the action-role-playing game Dungeon Explorer. All three games are rated E for Everyone.
Originally released in 1986, the NES version of Gradius puts players in the cockpit of a starfighter fending off an alien invasion through seven stages. Designed for one or two players, the game is available for 500 Wii Points ($5).
The second shoot-'em-up of the week, Hudson Entertainment's 1992 offering Soldier Blade borrows the colored power-up mechanic of its fellow TG-16 shooters, Super Star Soldier and Blazing Lazers. Soldier Blade is a one-player game and sells for 600 Wii Points ($6).
Finally, Hudson Entertainment's 1989 action-RPG Dungeon Explorer originally required the TG-16's TurboTap accessory to allow simultaneous cooperative play for up to five players. Fortunately, the Virtual Console release allows five-player action with any combination of Wii Remotes and GameCube controllers. Players pick from eight different character classes ranging from genre staples like the fighter to more obscure choices like the bard or bishop, and then set out into the world to conquer a series of dungeons. Dungeon Explorer is available to download for 600 Wii Points.

This new trailer from SSX Blur shows the new Wii-exclusive boarder in action, complete with two handy Wii Remote icons that reveal how stunts will be pulled with the Wii Remote.
As you fly off ramps, you can perform flips and spins by shoving the Remote left and right, or tilting it forward or backwards. Kicks and grabs are done with A and B.
It otherwise looks like the game will control as normal, using the Nunchuk analogue stick to steer your character, which is good news considering we were dreading an awkward motion-control system that could have ruined a decent game.
It looks pretty good too, and will look even better on your TV. SSX Blur is due to go on sale in March.

Elebits, Konami's bizarrely unique hide-and-seek adventure, will now be known as Eledees when it arrives in the UK this spring.
Eledees has players using a gravity-defying ray gun to lift up objects in the search the little Eledee creatures that have apparently made off with the world's supply of electricity.
It's unique gameplay really show off the potential of the Wii Remote, and it's one of the most unique games of recent years.

The lower screen uses a grid system to make navigating and editing the city a cinch, while game creator, Will Wright, who can be seen in these shots, turns up to offer helpful advice.
The city-wrecking UFOs are back, as they can be seen in one shot, kidnapping one of your little people. And we expect natural disasters and economic crashes to cause all kinds of mayhem in your miniature, portable town. And the detail in these shots is amazing.
Look forward to Sim City hitting DS later this year

As previously announced, EA Japan is rehabilitating its classic management sim Theme Park in a new game for the DS and, by the looks of these first screens, it's shaping up nicely.
Thankfully, there's no over-ambitious 3D malarkey going on here - just old-school 2D sprites ensuring that you'll be building huge parks packed full of little people with no problem on your DS.
As one screen shows the game will predictably make use of the touch screen to make building and manipulating your park as easy as possible, and we can't wait to see how it handles when it lands on DS in the spring.

Python for the Nintendo DS has been updated from Python 2.4.3 to Python 2.5.
Heres some info
This is a port of Python 2.5 to the Nintendo DS. However before you read further there are a couple of important things to know.
None of the DS hardware is as yet supported. This means that the use you can get out of this port is severely limited. You cannot access the microphone, the graphics, the speakers, the touchscreen or any of the controls. All you can do is enter lines of Python code into the console through the touchscreen keyboard seen in the picture to the right.
You need a homebrew device to get the Python rom onto your DS. I will not go into what is involved here, you will need to work this out on your own.

Have you ever thought about writing a huge developer like nintendo?
Have you ever wondered, what might happen if someone did reply to your email?
What sage insight The big N may drop upon you, Just because you felt the need to ask?
Well, Here is an example of the kind of reply one may receive from the big N.
Regardless of the general content. Its still humbling that massive corporations Like nintendo hire staff to do a job a dedicated email bot could reply too.
My original question to nintendo.

Dear nintendo, Merry X-Mas! and congratulations on the success of the wii.
My friends and I would like to know some information, We are wondering.
If Zelda 2 (NES), Zelda, A link to the past (Snes), Zelda, ocarina of time, and majora's mask(N64), Are ever going to be released for the wii virtual console?
Any information on these titles pertaining to there Wii virtual console
releases would be greatly appreciated, however vague it may be,
Thank you in advance ,
Shadowprophet, And friends,
Their Reply.

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,
I hope that you and your friends are enjoying the Wii console. At this
time, however, future titles that may be released for the Virtual Console
have not been announced.
Keep checking our website. When new titles are announced, you will see
them listed on our site.
Thanks for your email and good luck with all your games!
Nintendo of America Inc.

After reading this I decided, This was and awfully generic response.
I then decided to write them back one more time, But rather then send them a brand new email I just replied to the one they sent me and sent it back, Hoping that if someone human saw it, they would see this wasn't my first attempt at getting some kind of resolution to my questions.
So I sent them this

Subject: On the subject of Zelda 2,
Okay, I have one last question that I would like cleared up, If you guys have the
time. See Zelda 2 has been announced for release on the virtual console in Japan.
Why is there no news on an american or European launch ?
Does this mean titles like kid icarus, mario kart 64 and zelda 2 wont see a
state side virtual console release?
there is a whole different set of red tape nintendo must endure to
see the titles released in other countries??
Thanks again in advance guys. I promise If I get a response for this email, this will be the last time I bug you guys about the issue, lol :P

Their reply
Hello,
It's great to hear from the many fans excited about the Virtual Console! So
many of you have contacted Nintendo regarding the games you would love to see
added. While we appreciate your excitement and support, decisions regarding
which games will be made available come from several different companies and are
influenced by a variety of factors apart of consumer suggestions.
The best place to share your excitement is through our Wii NSider Forums. The
NSider Forums may be accessed by clicking the link below:
http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board?board.id=vc
To post your comments, you'll need a My Nintendo membership. However, it's free
and easy to get by going to the following web page:

If you have questions about NSider Forums, please visit our FAQ page:

For more details about the Virtual Console, including a list of software that
will be made available by Dec. 31st, check out the following web page:
http://wii.nintendo.com/virtualconsole.jsp
Going forward, we anticipate anywhere from 10-15 new Virtual Console titles a
month across all systems, so there's hope that the title you're looking for will
eventually appear. Keep checking our website (www.nintendo.com) for updates!
Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc.

Smealum has updated his awesome looking Doom Type game for the Nintendo DS, heres the full translated info:
New version! More stable version, with a total recasting of the network transfer! This version does not make any more crasher the livebox! On the other hand, I did not make all the completions, and you will notice that when you kill an enemy, instead of téléporter at the point of respawn, it leaves there while running… That will be corrected of course You will also note if you are attentive that the number of packages received (visible on the screen of bottom….moreover if you are gifted you can cheat and to guess the position of the adversary with) VERY STRONGLY decreased… but when I very strongly say, it is a passage of the 20~30 packages/second with the 1~2 packages/seconds Besides, no really visible innovation…

If there's one combination that we can all agree is great, it's two hydrogen molecules getting down with one oxygen molecule. H2O-yeah. One combination we're not so down with: H2O and electronics. The war between the two factions is ancient and storied, full of broken dreams (and motherboards). To help prevent such senseless violence, Atlantic is dipping their waterproof toes back into the consumer electronics pool with two new entries to their GameKeeper line: waterproof gameSEAL cases for both the Nintendo DS (Phat and Lite varieties) and the PSP, available now for $39.99. The PSP model can hold the console, 10 UMDs, two Memory Stick Duos, and charger; the DS model holds the console, 12 DS carts, 16 GBA carts, plus charger. GameSEAL, get it? It seals, like a case, but it's waterproof, like a seal. Clever.

Some news from the coders of Okiwi which is going to be a free NDS Browser:
These days I've been working in the graphical user interface and now I'm including a necessary keyboard to allow text input in our Nintendo DS.
My intention is to publish in the very short term a demo which will show that pieces of the software that can integrate with each other yet and play their role, although in an incomplete fashion. I hope all doubts about this browser's development reality clear up this way.
About collaborations, altough I thank that some of you are offering to contribute with graphics or programming, the project is closed to this by now. It's probable that this changes in the future, and I try to make a team. If that happened, I'd make a request in the blog and I'd begin to gather applications from that point.
Some words to the blog translators: thank you for the work you've done till now. From here on I will deal with that task, until the updating frequency raises again making it advisable for me to leave it.
By the way, ¡happy 2007!

Konami’s survival adventure sequel, Survival Kids: Lost in Blue 2 is scheduled to come out on March 15, 2007 in Japan. Once again a boy and a girl are on an island and they have to find a way to survive. Animals can attack the duo in Lost in Blue 2 and you have to find a way to fight back with weapons. Lost in Blue 2 also has some multiplayer mini games aside from the story mode. In related Konami news, they announced that Puzzle Series: Jigsaw Puzzle Odenkun 2 is coming out on March 29, 2007. As the name implies it is a jigsaw puzzle game with the Odenkun anime characters where you use the stylus to put together puzzles. While Jigsaw Puzzle Odenkun probably won’t be coming to the USA, Lost in Blue 2 is scheduled for a US release in the first quarter of 2007.
