People have speculated for quite some time on what out-of-company characters would be joining Solid Snake in the upcoming Super Smash Bros: Brawl. Sonic was an obvious choice, of course, but check out the above picture, seen in the Swedish Nintendo mag +N.
Yes, readers, we know, it's still quite dubious. Still, we can't resist such a beauty of a rumor. Now we just need a NiGHTs 2 confirmation, Goldeneye on the virtual console, and the ability for the Wii to hack into our brains and overwrite our senses with direct input from the game.

Some new trailers showcasing a pair of the minigames to be included in Wii Play have hit Game Trailers and, like the trusty internet vacuums we are, have gathered and embedded them for your viewing pleasure. The first trailer, which is labelled as Tank Combat, shows just that! The second trailer shows us the fishing minigame, which reminds us a lot of a game we used to play as kids, involving fishing rods with magnets and gathering ducks in a pool of water (the name escapes us and Google is being no help).

It’s Christmas morning in the Mann household in Wisconsin, USA. Santa has brought the best present of all - a rare-as-hen’s-teeth Nintendo Wii - for the children to share and enjoy. In preparation, the family has bought a whopping 70-inch rear projection TV for their front room. As we predicted, this family didn’t wait for their replacement straps to arrive…
Karlee Mann (14) sat by while her cousin Bryce (also 14) dominated the initial few games of Wii Sports Tennis. When Bryce finally gave in to her protests, the heady mix of frustration, adrenalin, anticipation and family rivalry proved too much. In an instant the remote slipped from her hands, the weak Gen 1 strap failed to catch the escaping projectile, and the Mann’s $4500 TV took a clean bullet to the head. Oops.

modrobert at eurasia.nu writes: "I just got word that the team behind the successful xenoGC and later xenoGC 2.0 now have a working drivechip for Wii which should be released soon. No further info available at the moment, not even a name, but my guess is xenoWii. "

Now you're cooking with gas. Er, the Wii. We initially joked on that there were several games you wouldn't see on the Wii, and yes cooking was one of 'em. Now we stand corrected, because Cooking Mama actually looks ... well, delicious. Fun, too. We never thought we'd be saying that about a cooking video game, but here it is. Next up, games based on cleaning and doing your homework.

Looks like reports of Wii damage aren't going away anytime soon: people are still damaging their television sets, lamps, windows, pets, and selves as they flail about living rooms designed more for lounging than energetic indoor video games.
Rather than fight it, flow with it. The KNOCK-OFF LAMP's beautiful, white polyproylene exterior echoes the Wii aesthetic, and it's made to be knocked over. At just $22.00, it's also probably cheaper than non Wii-proof lamps, too.

Article from Next Gen
You probably recollect this Dragon Quest business late last year; in a move surprising to professional analysts everywhere, producer Yuji Horii (pictured) decided to go with the most popular piece of dedicated gaming hardware in generations for the next installment of the most important videogame franchise in Japan.
If people are bewildered, it's not due to the apparent rejection of Sony (whose hardware was home to the previous two chapters). After the mediocre performance of the PSP and the bad press regarding the PS3 launch, Sony has become a bit of a punching bag for the industry's frustrations. Fair or not, losing one more series – however important – hardly seems like news anymore.
In a sense, handhelds have become the new consoles and consoles have become the new arcade machines. That's not absolutely true, as handhelds still hold a unique appeal that consoles have never been able to enjoy (and vice versa). Still, it's close enough for Dragon Quest – and judging by sales numbers, for the general Japanese audience. On the third hand, the point here isn't the facts of the situation, however fascinating they might be; it's that everything has its ideal context, and that every context has a unique set of qualities to address. If the DS has taken off and the PSP hasn't – well, hey. Maybe, for all its merits, Sony kind of missed the point with that system. If handhelds are threatening to become more important than home consoles, it's because we've finally figured them out, kind of – whereas we're still struggling to make something effective out of home systems. At least now we know what to look for.
