Here's another entry from the realm of useless-but-interesting mods: fusing a Game Boy Advance to a Wii, so that you can play Wii Sports and Zelda on those long plane rides. Battery pack, passenger safety equipment not included.
OK -- so really it's just a modder who thought to splice the Wii's video output into a GBA's tiny little display. Nevertheless, science doesn't need a reason to do crazy stuff. That's why it's science!

Koei confirms new name, region for Samurai Warriors spin-off Sengoku Musou Wave.
Swordfighting with the Wii Remote holds a natural appeal, if the sales of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Red Steel on the system are any indication. Now US gamers done with those hits and yearning for additional slicing and dicing have more to look forward to than Cooking Mama. A Koei representative today confirmed for GameSpot that the latest installment in the company's Samurai Warriors line of games will be released in the US.
Introduced at Nintendo's 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo kickoff conference as Sengoku Action and later dubbed Sengoku Musou Wave, the game will have a more Western moniker when it debuts in the US as Samurai Slash. Few details are known, but the game is played from a first-person perspective and lets players use the Wii Remote to take out rushing opponents with projectile and melee attacks.
Samurai Slash is scheduled for release later this year.

Another Taito franchise moves to Wii, courtesy Majesco. Everybody loves Bust-a-Move, even if you're a broke college student and you only know it as "Snood". Bust-a-Move for Wii brings all the modes you remember, from the regular ol' arcade mode to the puzzle stages, adds a dash of motion control, then caps off the whole thing with a crazy eight-player mode.
Yeah, you heard me -- eight players. Wii doesn't support eight Wiimotes at once, but if you're willing to get up close and personal with your fellow geeks, all you need are four nunchuk attachments. We didn't try that particular feature out, but we did make the other six players computer-controlled, and let me tell you, eight-player Bust-a-Move is nuts. By that point, there's very little point in actually aiming the bubbles that you're blasting -- just shoot at the UFOs that cross the screen, and when there aren't any, launching a volley of bubbles in any direction and crossing your fingers can be the way to go.
Motion control works well -- within a couple of seconds you won't even be thinking about it anymore; your cursor will just be going right where your brain wants it to. I was impressed, even though it's a simple thing. Well, not that simple, to which anyone who's used Super Monkey Ball's menu screen can attest.

JimmyL has updated his game Explosive Gas for the Nintendo DS, its now at v0.4, heres whats new:
I finally got around to cleaning up a bunch of the bugs and to adding some of the features that had been planned for the initial release but didn't make it in because of the deadline for the contest. So now get ready for a version of Explosive Gas with almost completely destructable environments and with bombs that can ride elevators! Unlike before, This version isn't backwards compatible with the older versions, so I recommend everyone upgrade to increase the odds of two or more people finding each other online...

The Nintendo Wii via the Virtual Console can play Nes, Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx-16. It can also play Gamecube games and even Gamecube Homebrew.
Now tonight having tested myself i can reveal to you all that GBA Games work on the Nintendo Wii via the Gamecube Port.
Now how does that work you ask, well a few years ago Datel released the Advance Game Port a device that plugs into your Gamecube Memory card slot and you then plug your GBA Games into that and play them on the big screen.
Firstly you need some items to do this, heres what you need:
An action replay kit for GC

The Action Replay for Gamecube will set you back around $25 but as well as being the device needed to boot homebrew its also a Region Free Gamecube Boot Disc and Cheats Device, well worth the cost.
If Play Asia above dont have the Action Replay for Gamecube in stock try, Divineo Germany, Divineo France and also Divineo Spain
An Advance GamePort for GC

Now not many shops still have the Advance Game Port but ive tonight contacted Datel and have asked if they will do a rerun of the product. Ebay, Amazon etc might be your best option.
OK Lets go
Heres the instructions
First Boot up your Nintendo Wii
2nd Insert the Action Replay for Gamecube Disc
Next go to the Freeloader Option on the Action Replay
Use that to boot the Advance Gameport Disc (Boot Disk)
Plug in the Advance Gameport
Plug a GBA Game into the Advance Gameport
Finally boot it up
Then hey presto youll be playing your favourite GBA Game or even GBA Homebrew/Emulator for GBA on your Nintendo Wii and thats without the need to hack your hardware.
Do make sure your using the Action Replay with Built in Freeloader.

Cake Mania is a port of the original PC game and the Back to the Bakery expansion pack. The game puts you in charge of running a cake shop, which means you'll be taking orders from customers, baking cakes, collecting money, and buying supplies. The DS version is controlled with the stylus and is mostly a matter of pointing to the people/objects you want to interact with.
The story in the first game involves trying to save your grandparents' cake shop from going out of business. In Back to the Bakery, you're traveling the world trying to win an international baking contest. While no multiplayer is available, with 84 levels in all the single-player should keep you busy bakin'.
The PC version of Cake Mania.
As gameplay starts customers walk up to the counter and place a cake order. They'll specify the size, color, and shape of cake they want, and it's up to you to get them what they ask for. It'll take a few moments to bake each cake, during which time more customers might enter and place more orders. The game is an exercise in multitasking, as you'll have to work quickly while maintaining accuracy.
Your customers' happiness is represented by the number of hearts above their head. The more hearts they've got, the happier campers they are. Customers range from Average Joes to Cupid and Santa Claus.
Each level has a monetary goal you need to reach, and once you do you'll progress to the next stage. You'll also be able to buy kitchen upgrades when you have enough cash.
Action is handled on the touch screen with the stylus. Touch a customer to take their order, then touch the right ingredients to make their cake. The top screen is your view from behind the counter. Customers will be staring you down while waiting for their orders, and their hearts will decrease if you take too long.
Cake Mania has been popular on PC, and it could be a good fit for the DS. Majesco is offering two full games in this package for $19.99, so it stands to be a promising budget title.

News from the Command And Conquer DS Clone Project :
Just thought I'd post what part of the game I'm working on right now... and it's the game! That's right I'm now starting to make headway into the actual game core, even though it's early days. The concepts of players (whether AI or human), armies, units, buildings, tech trees and more have been coded in. While I'm working on the game code I'm adding a VERY simplified rendering routine for it which basically involves coloured blocks. This will gradually be replaced by nice graphics as the game progresses. I still think the hardest part of this project will be to squeeze in all those nice graphics on the poor little DS, but it'll be a fun challenge.
I'm now starting work on the path finding, which is a very important part of an RTS. So far I think I'll go for the tried and tested A* technique with a heuristic friendly to a low memory/cpu environment. I'm looking at ways of sharing A* work between groups of units given the same destination to save CPU time and also ways of breaking up the task over consecutive frames.
This is the part of the project I've been really looking forward to, until now putting the framework in has largely been a pain, but actually writing the game is the fun part Oh and don't worry, I'm writing the code with network support in mind from day one. Though it won't be WiFi enabled for a good while yet I'm taking the first steps in that direction now.

News/release from Tails:
Presentation:
Avoid 'EM all is a “dodging them all” (not, without jokes ) where you must, armed with your stylet, to avoid the balls who break on your red square.
The goal of the play is to make best time.
The rain of ball accelerates during your performance, and you will have the possibility of collecting two types of no-claims bonus in order to help you to hold longest!
History:
Version 1.0: 10/01/07
Initial Release
How to play:
Once you pressed on the touch screen, you control a red square which you must at all costs prevent from being made touch by the white particles which fall from the higher screen.
The jouability is with simplest: to move on the touch screen will make move your square at this place.
On the screen time like your life is presented.
Time indicates your time of survival quite simply.
The life, as opposed to what one could believe, does not make it possible to in no case to be able to be caught particles of time to other. This gauge decreases gradually if you are in one on the two sides of the touch screen:
A co-ordinate in 0 or 255 (all on the left or all on the right) will entrainera the reduction in your life. If it reaches 0, you lose.
This system was set up in order to prevent from camping on the edges of the screen.
No-claims bonus:
Interesting part of the play, the no-claims bonus are of two kinds:
Green particles: The play passes in mode slows down for one duration indicated in top of the lower screen. You can then better locate you when there are many particles. You can be made touch in this mode.
Red particles: You become invincible! The one moment space (indicated in top of the lower screen) you can be made touch by any particle without losing the part. Effective at the time of high performances, but still is necessary it to succeed in catching it. You cannot touch the edges of the screen without losing life, it is a closed area!

We have yet to see the episode in question where Dr. House rocks the DS above, but we wonder why he didn't choose to go with a DS Lite. Maybe he just enjoys conflict so much that he feels the need to go with the Phat so that upon any inquiries as to why he is not using the sleeker, newer version of the dual-screen handheld, he can begin a rant breaking down the inquisitive individual. Or maybe it's the young lady's and he just wanted to check it out? Regardless of how it came into play, we're glad Nintendo's handheld got some screen time on one of TV's best shows

I’m not sure whether I should call this brilliant or useless, but this DS game case actually holds three DS games plus a GBA game. The cover art for the Hyper Carrying Case has some familiar mascots. Doraemon is in the center and Rockman of the Stars is to the right of him. While this looks like a bootleg it isn’t, Shogakukan is selling the Hyper Carrying Case in Japan for 480 yen ($4) a piece.

By way of Jeux-France, we've got some new images of Wario: Master of Disguise to present. These new shots, obviously, give you a look at all of Wario's kickass costumes, which give him a whole bunch of different abilities.
We found out, while watching the recent Japanese commercial for the game, that one needs to use the stylus to transform Wario into his different forms.

PAL Wii owners sitting down (or should I say standing?!) for some game time are being greeted with a Wii update. This update appears to bring the Wii from version 2.0 to 2.1. As of posting this story, there is no such update in the US. That may change by the time I wake up! So far, no one can figure out just what the update does. There are a number of small issues that the update could be targeted at. Perhaps we will hear from Nintendo on this subject later in the day. Thanks to Feanor & Vooks for the heads up!
Heres whats new:
The weather channel says that it needs connect 24/7 after I only disabled ’standby internet’.
The video output stays on with RGB cables in ‘orange mode’. This means that any other signal on de video channel(s) on the TV are suppressed.

Konami's support for both the PS3 and Wii appears to have taken a major hit. The release list in the latest issue of Famitsu reveals reveals that a number of next generation titles previously announced by the company are no longer in development.
Here's the full list of cancelled titles.
Gradius Series (PS3)
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball (PS3)
New Action Game (PS3)
New Role Playing Game (PS3)
New Action Adventure Game 2 (Wii)
Role Playing Game (Wii)
With those titles gone, Konami's Wii and PS3 lineup reads as follows:
Pro Baseball Spirits Series (PS3)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)
World Soccer Winning Eleven Series (PS3)
Music Simulation Game (Wii)
New Action Adventure Game (Wii)
Sports Game -- Soccer (Wii)
Sports Game -- Baseball (Wii)
So what happened? Sadly, the magazine provides no details. However, you'll notice that none of the the cancelled games have actual names yet. It's possible that Konami had intended to make the games, but decided to go in a different direction.

Ruliweb has posted several images of the Korean-specific DS soon to be released on January 18. It should be interesting to see how well the DS, and upcoming Wii, can ultimately do in the MMO loving country. And could Nintendo be as ambitious for Korea as Microsoft is for Brazil?

The Warlords franchise is set to conquer new territory. Strategy First today announced that it will be bringing the classic series of PC turn-based strategy games (not to be confused with the arcade game of the same name) to the Nintendo DS.
Strategy First has entrusted developer Glyphic Entertainment with the task of bringing the franchise to the portable intact, and the current features list suggests the studio will retain some of the series' most familiar components. Warlords DS will support turn-based hotseat or Wi-Fi play for up to eight players, with 20 premade scenarios to play through and randomized maps to keep things fresh.
Gamers will be able to produce 28 different types of armies, as well as access statistics for each battle that show the balance of power and military strength as it tips with each passing turn. And while there are economic and diplomatic aspects of the gameplay, the game's main focus is on combat. Strategy First is also promising artificial intelligence that will be able to challenge veteran gaming generals, as well as a tutorial system with a military advisor that can ease newer strategy fans into the action.
Warlords is the third offering in Strategy First's catalog of upcoming releases, joining the previously announced Jagged Alliance 2 and Disciples II.
Now someone bring Warcraft and Starcraft to DS

Apparently the Japanese console consumers are sinking their teeth into the modest Wii and are not as interested in the power-packed PS3. In fact, the Wii is outselling Sony's new console by a factor of almost 2:1. The number of PS3s sold into the Japanese market (466,716) falls well short of the million Sony had planned for the end of 2006. 989,118 Wii consoles have been sold in Japan in the same time span. From the article: 'Both Sony and Nintendo are projecting selling 6 million consoles by the end of March. Sony expects to start shipping the PS3 to Europe sometime that month as well. Straggling far behind Sony and Nintendo in the Enterbrain survey was Microsoft's Xbox 360, which had sold 290,467 since its Japan debut in December 2005. Selling machines in large numbers is crucial in the gaming business because it encourages software companies to make more games to play on the machines, which in turn boosts console sales.

With a little bit of imagination and the knowledge that people are obsessed with the Wii, some fine folk decided they would like to do everyone the service of making custom Mii buttons. These buttons feature your Mii's face, along with Wii console number, in the hopes that you'd hand them out to people and make more friends.
You can see the final product of their hard work over at the site, and to be honest they turned out good! Now, we aren't about to give this a go ourselves (we're paid in beatings here at Wii Fanboy), but are any of you out there looking to get yourself some Mii buttons?
