The best N64 Emulator for Windows may finally be coming back to life:
The project has been on hiatus for a little bit, well probably about a year! With the payments, I have found another company to try. I have re-enabled the donation page to see how they work out. The account creation process is not automatic so I will have to create the accounts by hand. I still have a busy life, things have not slowed down. My wife is now currently 8 months pregnant. If this payment method works, then I will over the next few months look at doing some work on improving the site. Then I will get back to the actual coding of the emu, where I am sure everyone of you would like me to be.

The iPhone has a ton of promise as a gaming machine. Sega certainly think so. But what of other companies? Companies that, thanks to their stake in the handheld market, may not be quite as open to the idea of facing a new challenger? MTV found out by asking Nintendo and Sony what they thought of Apple's latest gizmo. Unsurprisingly, both were a little cold on the device. Reggie said:
From our standpoint, we are aware of what the iPhone is doing. We certainly monitor it. But just like in the home console space we’re focused on doing what it is we do well...we’ve got a large installed base that we’re looking to drive even further and to sell software into. That’s our focus. We’ll see what happens with the iPhone but it is not something that will make us change our direction.

Relax. Nintendo has not forgotten you. Making new titles for the traditional fanbase just takes time, says Shigeru Miyamoto, speaking to the Telegraph recently in an interview.
Said Miyamoto:
"Making these 'traditional' games is what I am best at. Because games of that nature take upwards of two or three years to make, we always have to keep the teams working on those projects going. At any given time, the team could be five to ten people, or it could be 50-plus. People are always switching in and out of those teams.

Considering it's a kids game, and it's on the DS, and stars the new kids-oriented Transformers, you might not give the new Transformers Animated game a chance. I know the show - Megatron, Starscream and that Nazi Decepticon aside - is just awful. But the game looks (relatively) pretty neat! Really. It's a side-scrolling platformer broken up by vehicle sections, but when side-scrolling, you control one Autobot, with the others scrolling right there with you. And you can switch between them effortlessly, to take advantage of their various strengths/weaknesses in order to solve puzzles or, as Ironhide would put it, kick some Decepticreep butt. Sounds mundane, but people as old as me may remember the original 80s Transformers game, and how this is almost exactly the same, which is a nice touch. Presser after the jump.

Does oddball British comedy make a good portable game? We'll see, I guess, since Blast Entertainment released Mr. Bean for the DS, a game featuring the hapless, juvenile character played famously by actor Rowan Atkinson.
Blast Entertainment also did the PS2 Mr. Bean game last year, and points out in this new announcement that it "still sells consistently well and continues to earn a place in the Chart track top 40 PS2 budget chart each week."
What can you expect from Mr. Bean DS? 12 puzzle levels and traps to avoid, missions and "exciting 3D locations." What shouldn't you expect? Probably not high production values, as you may recall Blast Entertainment CEO's Shawn Brennan pulled no punches at a UK event last year where he fired off on high development costs, calling it "ego tripping."
You can also, Blast says, expect a Wii version "later this year."

In a lengthy interview with GameDaily BIZ, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos offered his thoughts on air drumming – the preferred form of percussive input in Nintendo's Wii Music, skillfully demonstrated above by a professional – and explained why Harmonix felt the need for an actual drum peripheral on the Wii. After considering using the Wiimote in an air drumming capacity, Rigopulos says, "We backed away from it because we found that the tactile element of actually hitting a surface when you're drumming is a fairly critical part to the visceral feel of actually playing drums." So, with air drumming, you're missing "a critical element ... in the experience."
Not much of a surprise coming from the head of a company currently shipping a giant, plastic drum kit, sure, but we were surprised to learn air drumming was ever even under consideration at Chez Harmonix.

Just as Mr. Adams wrote of the summer of '69, some heralded pop star decades from now will pen a smash hit recalling the summer of two-thousand and eight. Oddly enough, the tune will likely focus on the revitalization of the Nintendo Entertainment System, which has somehow wiggled into just about everything imaginable over the past few months. The latest concoction is a bit different, though, as the NES Belt Buckle doesn't really shove NES capabilities into a buckle; rather, the NES is the buckle, which is sort of weird to be frank. Still, for $300 you can have your very own, but we'd recommend boosting your self-esteem and saving your cash by just making your own with that dusty system that's still in your attic.

New from Divineo China
Wouldn't it be nice to play games without a cord stretching across your living-room floor, especially if you have little kids or large dogs in your household? Nintendo's Wave Bird isn't the first wireless controller ever brought to market, but it's a whole lot better than what came before. You may remember a brief fad a few years ago with spotty infrared devices. These units failed because they were a lot heavier than standard controllers, and also because they required a direct line of sight between the controller and the infrared receiver. The Wave Bird is much lighter (it weighs a bit more than a regular controller) and uses radio frequency signals for reliable game control at distances of up to 20 feet. Unless your playing on a stadium-size TV screen, that should be more than enough. The unit will last for about 100 hours of use on just two AA batteries and has 16 channel frequencies, so you'll easily be able to hook up four controllers without interference.

description
The KORG DS-10 is a music-creation software for the Nintendo DS that combines the superior interface of the Nintendo DS and the design concept of the famous MS-10 synthesizer.
The sound sources in the KORG DS-10 come from KORG - one of the world's top musical instrument producers - and no effort was spared in creating these ultra-high-quality sounds. The Nintendo DS's dual-screen touch panel is used to the fullest to provide a feel and operability that is unsurpassed, and combined with the sensory input mode at the touch-control screen, this unit can be appreciated by the complete novice as well as the seasoned professional.
In addition to the two analog synth simulators and drum module, a 6-track/16-step sequencer enables precise control and provides a wide range of musical possibilities. Several units can be connected and played together through a wireless link, and this and other features make the Nintendo DS and KORG DS-10 almost limitless in their application - they can take you places that no single synthesizer can.

Funny and fantastic C64 fighting game IK+ leads the weekly Virtual Console update for Nintendo Wii.
Developed by Archer Maclean back when people wore shoulder pads unironically, it's also full to the brim with Easter Eggs - like pressing buttons to make trousers fall down - and some of the most entertaining mini-games ever. IK+ costs 500 Points (approx GBP 3.50 / EUR 5) on Virtual Console.
Much newer in the world of old games is Neo Turf Masters, a NeoGeo title that only appeared in 1999. It's a golf game about scoring golf runs and potting balls or something. Tom says he used to spend many hours staring at the blown-up top-down hole-map on his NeoGeo Pocket Color, which is very suspicious phrasing if nothing else. Neo Turf Masters costs 900 Points (approx GBP 6.30 / EUR 9).
Last this week is City Connection from the NES days of 1985. You drive a Honda around famous places and paint them white to win while the police try and stop you. City Connection costs 500 Points (approx GBP 3.50 / EUR 5).
As usual, Eurogamer's almost family can-we-adopt-him-anyway Dan Whitehead will be slicing these up into scores very soon, but if you're desperate to start rambling about IK+ then you can do so on the thread for EG Retro's IK+ review.

technik post in the Wiibrew forumsHello, my nick is technik and I'm the developper of the Revoluion Engine.
It is a 3D games Engine for Wii. With it you may be able to easily create cool 3D homebrew games for you Wii's and publish them. Now it's still a "little baby" so many of it's features aren't available yet, but i'm already working for the next release. This is the download link: http://cjk80cf98289.googlepages.com/...Enginev0.1.rar. The main page of the project is http://www.revolutiongameengine.blogspot.com with videos and more, but it's all in spanish (because I am Spanish) as well as the license of the engine. So I think it is a good Idea to type some features here in inglish so you all know what this is able to do:
-Allows you to render full 3D Scenes in real time on your Wii with multiple dynamic Objects wich have Mesh and Texture (only one channel textures right now).
-Allows you to render 2D images over the 3D image to use as panels, texts, etc...Using simple png files so you can use it for 3Dgames, 2D games or a combination of both.
-A vector Based Cameras system that allows you to make target, first person, third person, free cameras, or any kind of cameras you want.
-Mesh loading from it's own file format, so performance is improved. This format is free, plain text, and easy to understand so anyone can make exporters or conversors from other formats.
-Texture Loading from png files using frontier's pngu library.
Great improvements are comming.
I'm going to translate it into English, gonna make some examples as well. I hope you enjoy this and make cool 3D games using it
