Games that already play well with the DS could run into trouble on the DSi, causing many a developer headache, according to sources at Pocket Gamer. One unnamed developer told the publication that its studio is having problems getting one of its upcoming games compatible with the Dsi's new hardware. Though the game plays fine on the regular DS, it freezes up when played on the Dsi and so Nintendo won't certify it.
Nintendo's response to everything has been that “All DS titles are compatible with Dsi” (except those that utilize the GBA slot—like Guitar Hero). But if games that haven't been released are already running into trouble, does that mean that several games already out there won't play nice on the company's next handheld?

Drunkencoders have today posted that Wii and Gamecube Xmas Themed entries will now be allowed in their Coding Contest, heres todays news:
After much prompting Wii/Gamecube games will now be accepted. In order to keep things fair they will be judged separately with their own prize pool. Because I have no way to guess the number of entries to the Wii/Gamecube category I am going to go with a more dynamic prize split:
1-5 entries: winner take all
6-10 entries: 1st place 70%, 2nd place 30%
> 10 entries: 1st 50%, 2nd 30%, 3rd 20%
If we dont break $150 on the Wii/Gamecube prize pool it will be winner take all regardless of the number of entries. Good luck and 2.5+ months remain.

Updated today from Sylus101
Sprite Designing/Testing/Creating/Animating On the GO!
Just so it's clear and the purpose of the app isn't in question (as I think it might be) this is intended to be a developers helper in designing/modifying sprites, particularly for use with PALib, but since there is a binary export now I'm gathering they could be used with any dev platform (not like there are many others...).
This is NOT meant to be a stand-alone a program where you make neat-o animations.
Welcome to the v0.93.0b release of Pixelman, the first to introduce the Sprite Testing Arena I've been working on for the last few months.
I'm really really hoping to have as many people as possible to check this one out. All instructions are in the Readme included.
10pm 10/27 Updated ReadMe with how to quit the Sprite Arena (Hold R and Press Start).

News/release from Bassacegold:
Well after a short month, I finally got around to polishing this app off and releasing it
Mario Paint Composer DS is an indirect remake of the music composer tool found in the Super Nintendo game “Mario Paint” with a few new adaptations which I added in from the PC version created by unFun Games ( http://www.unfungames.com/). Please note, I am not responsible for the pc version, these two programs merely share the same name and that is all. This is not a direct port of any version, it is completely coded by myself.
Features: These are new features continuing from the ones already in the snes version
-Saving and Loading of songs
-Sharp and Flat notes
-more lower ranged notes
-4 new note types
-4 notes per can be played at once rather then the 3 limit
-Longer songs
Feel free to check out the forums for songs to download, to share your own creations, report bugs or even to drop a suggestion you would like to see in the next version.
The forum can be found here: http://nds-help.com/mpcforum/

News/release from Kayvon
It's the classic Missile Command game, rewritten for the Nintendo DS! Shoot down the incoming missiles and protect your cities. Earn a new city every 10,000 points or, if you already have all four, get a huge point bonus.
High scores are automatic if you have DLDI patching. Most modern cards do this automatically, but if you don't see high scores showing up, you need to manually DLDI patch. The scores are stored in the \DATA directory, if one exists. Otherwise they're stored in the root directory.
* * *
I made this game from scratch in three weeks. The first week was learning how to program for the DS, which I had never done before. The game itself was programmed during week two. The third week was simply playtesting.
If you're aspiring to program games, the best thing you can do is take math classes. Take all the math classes offered in high school and learn as much as possible. It makes programming much easier and your games will be fast and more efficient. I have a solid math background (I'm an engineer), but I still wish I had paid more attention in my college Linear Algebra.
UPDATED Oct 28, 2008 (A friend loaned me a slot-1 flash cart!)
* Rumble Pak now supported
* Flash cart icon created
* Minor bug fix

Atlus is the latest company to stretch out a major game announcement into a full week of teasing.
It all begins in this week's Famitsu, which houses an ad for an all new DS game, Devil Survivor. The two page ad shows a view of Tokyo's skyline, only the sky is red and appears to be forming a whirlpool. The text on the ad promises details on November 7, also in Famitsu.
The full name for the new game is actually Megami Ibunroku Devil Survivor. The Japanese words before "Devil Survivor" also precede the Japanese version of that PlayStation classic, Revelations: Persona. The connection between the two games is unknown.
Expect full details some time next week!

Kingdom Under Fire developer Blueside has announced Princess and Knight for the DS.
It's an action RPG with stylus-based controls, apparently, and boasts hand-drawn 2D graphics with 3D effects.
You can see what it looks like in our Princess and Knight DS screenshot gallery.
Blueside's promising customisable characters, weapons and abilities, and fast-paced combos in battle, as you take control of a brave knight who discovers he has special powers, and subsequently teams up with Mooki, a princess guardian.
As the slightly amazing press release declares, "It just takes a pen to shake the world!"
There's no word on a release date yet, but we'll let you know.

SEGA has announced that it will publish High Voltage's Wii first-person shooter, The Conduit, in spring next year.
Built on the developer's Quantum 3 engine, The Conduit throws the player into the no doubt shiny shoes of US Secret Service agent Mr Ford in Washington DC, as he sets off to fight naughty alien invaders.
Ford's kit includes futuristic weaponry and an intelligence-gathering device called the "All-Seeing Eye", but the interesting thing is how much control you're given over the, well, controls. High Voltage plans to let you reconfigure them as you please, and test things like view and turn speed, the aiming dead zone and other tricky elements until you're satisfied. There will be Wii MotionPlus support too, according to SEGA.
Away from the campaign, The Conduit promises at least three multiplayer modes for its 16-player online battles, and should support the Wii Speak peripheral so you can jabber away to one another.
And of course SEGA is very happy with the signing, with marketing director Gary Knight arguing that, "Bringing The Conduit into our library is yet another show of SEGA's belief that the Wii is more than a casual games console." SEGA has previously put out Ghost Squad, House of the Dead 2&3 Return and NIGHTS: Journey of Dreams to back that up, and is currently preparing House of the Dead: OVERKILL.

The lesser known Studio Zan are helming a Wiiware versus game containing customisable steampunk mecha. The last game that tried something similar was the rather unfortunate Dreamcast game Frame Gride by the arguably more experienced From Software. The game is called Overturn and will feature 2 player local versus as well as 2 to 4 player online multiplayer. The game is slated for a November release (in Japan) and no price point has been specified as yet. Studio Zan could pull this off, as Yuke's nailed a VOTOMS game last year and they weren't exactly a mecha game developer, and the Wii does need more mecha games as it is.

The BBC has redesigned its iPlayer video streaming service for the Nintendo Wii.
The service has been available on the Wii for six months now, but only working through the standard iPlayer website design, which is too large to fit comfortably on the Wii's browser display.
The new version is optimised for the Wii's display resolution and pointer control, with a simplified interface and larger buttons.
You can see screenshots and read more about it in a blog by developer Anthony Rose on the BBC website.
You can even sample the navigation on your computer by going to BigScreen version of iPlayer.
One of the major problems with the previous version of iPlayer on Wii was that it was impossible to play back in full-screen mode. The new version is "designed with that in mind", taking you automatically to a much larger, non-windowed playback display.
However, the BBC has not been able to improve the video streaming quality over the original version. "That's not ideal - but, alas, the Wii ships with Flash 7 which uses the older Sorenson Spark codec that gives lower video compression and poorer quality than the more recent On2 VP6 and H.264 codecs used in later versions of Flash found on your PC," said Rose.
"We're very much looking forward to better quality video options on these devices - stay tuned for possible further developments on this front over the coming months," he added.
As a footnote, Rose added that a PS3 version of iPlayer was in the works.
"We're also working on bringing BBC iPlayer to Sony PS3, but we're not quite there yet as the PS3 uses a slightly older version of Flash which doesn't support some of the features used in our media player, and the very promising Flash 9 update now available on PS3 has some compatibility issues," he said.

Masamune has released a demo of Poulip's Adventure, a colorful platform game he's currently working on.
Development:
For now scrolling, display and the counting of lives and the collision on the various platforms are fully managed. Programming for the creation of objects and enemies is almost complete, it remains to correct two small bugs, I add a new video to show progress.
