A Doctor Who game will hit DS and Wii before Christmas after Nintendo agreed a contract said to be worth £10m.
According to The Sun, the game is at the early stages of development - but will be based around the new Doctor, played by Matt Smith.
It will feature Doctor Who baddies including the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Silurians.
An insider told the paper: "This has been in the pipeline for years. We're delighted to have finally nailed down a deal. We went with Nintendo as they have huge appeal for families and Doctor Who is very much a family brand.
"The Wii console is key for us as it's something families play together."
Former Doctor David Tennant added: "The video game was quite actively developed, but it's difficult to nail as the Doctor doesn't blow things up.
"He's not Batman, who goes around smacking people in the head."

Metroid creator Yoshio Sakamoto has said that he'd "happily" see a remake of his hit classic Kid Icarus -so long as a suitable Wii adaptation could be made.
"I don't know personally about any project underway regarding Kid Icarus, but if so many of those people are interested in it and really want to see it on the Wii they should really speak up," Sakamoto told Kotaku.
"If we can find some sort of way to bring it to the Wii, a way to make the game for the Wii that makes sense, we would happily do so. But just keep in mind it may not be me making the game."

Almost a year ago, a trademark for "Crafting Mama" was spotted. It's now being put to use, as Majesco has announced, well, Crafting Mama for DS. In her latest endeavor, Mama will occupy her seemingly endless time with a new task: arts & crafts.
In a series of 40 projects, players will create things like birdhouses, quilts, kaleidoscopes and adorable new aprons for Mama to wear, as well as Mama dolls. Of course, these creations will all be realized through the familiar touch-based minigames, played alone and in multiplayer, which so many of us have grown to love in the utterly populous Cooking Mama game franchise. It's kind of crazy that a company can announce a game about making quilts and birdhouses, and we can already pretty much imagine how to play it!
Majesco plans a fall 2010 release for Crafting Mama, but we suspect the publisher is at least considering bumping that up a bit.

Ced-le-penguin realizes the stable version 0.4 "Micro Lua DS Simulator" that could be described emulator coded in lua projects with Micro Lua DS Risika. Indeed, Micro Lua DS Simulator can run on PC projects by simulating the Lua interpreter Micro Lua DS.
And here's the final version 0.4 of MLS! Very Happy
Changes:
* OpenGL is now the display mode by default mls.ini
* OpenGL problems resolved: most white rectangles instead of images or distorted images, or FPS unbearably low (on older graphics cards fro in OpenGL rendering software). If you're still having problems with OpenGL, including pause, take a look at the file mls.ini it contains additional options for OpenGL
* Screen.drawTextBox () now supports the newlines
* New window "keyboard shortcuts" in the Help menu (or Ctrl + K)
* Zoom: in some cases, return to 1x zoom was not done
* Zoom: changing the zoom is disabled when it is fullscreen
* The configuration file is provided mls.ini instead of mls.ini.dist (the user should rename)

Remember the HarmoNESica? A brief refresher, then: it's what happens when you've got a copy of Super Tecmo Bowl, a Pocket Pal harmonica, and the desire to create a unique musical instrument. But if you don't have any of the aforementioned ingredients and just want the end result, eBay's got you covered as usual -- three HarmoNESicas have been gathering bids at the online auction house this week. Whether your pleasure be Dick Tracy, Super Mario Bros. 3 or The Legend of Zelda, there's a harmonica to match; and if (for some reason) you want to actually play one of the games, you'll find the ROM guts tastefully included. But before you make your bid, remember: there's more than one way to skin an NES cartridge.

Years ago, CyberConnect2 said they had a “Nintendo DS new project coming soon.” That game is about to be revealed.
CyberConnect2 is the developer behind .hack, Tail Concerto, and the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series.
A countdown clock popped up on CyberConnect2’s site. Time left until we find out what this is: seven days. However, we may have an early clue. Before creating a countdown site, CyberConnect 2 released a bit of artwork… in 2007.

All of the juicy details needed to control a camera from your Nintendo DS are now available at the Open Camera Control project. This is the descendant of [Steve Chapman's] setup from a few years ago. The system has been polished up and has seen many feature additions. It’s been used in movie production and works with a wide range of cameras.
Start by building your own interface cable using an AVR microcontroller running the Arduino bootloader. Finish up by loading some open source software onto the DS to add a cornucopia of shot options.

Simon Kagstrom has let us know in our Wii Emulation & Homebrew Forum about his new Commodore 64 Emulator for Wii:
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/sho...d.php?t=300319
Heres some details:
Note to those using network play: the network connection broker requires the latest version of Frodo, so please upgrade if you plan to use the network support!
c64-network.org is a Commodore 64 emulator written by Christian Bauer ( http://frodo.cebix.net). It was ported to the Wii by Simon Kagstrom, and many C64 games are fully playable on the Wii with it. So go ahead and beat your friends in International Karate, Boulder Dash or Bomb Jack. This version is not the same as Troy Davis implementation, but Troys work is available in a branch in the subversion tree.
The emulator works best in 480i mode. It runs perfectly fine in 576i mode as well, but does not utilize the full resolution. This is an SDL issue, and will not be fixed until SDL-Port supports it. Sound support is slightly buggy, but usable. The emulation itself is not perfect, so not all games will run under Frodo. Unfortunately, I cannot do very much about this since I haven't written the emulator - just ported it. If you have multiple versions of a game, try each of them as often at least one will work.
v1 (C64-network.org)
Sound support for the network play
New GUI
Screenshot saving and game info
All compile-time warnings have been fixed
Much improved Linux support
A million small changes here and there, basically all of the code is touched!
(For the RC): Only wiimote is supported, not the classic controller or the nunchuk
(For the RC): Please submit new GUI themes!
Note: The directory for games has been moved to /frodo on the SD card root, so move all your d64 and t64's there.

March 10th, 2010, 23:07 Posted By: wraggster
Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime has claimed that the company is not yet ready to seriously think about releasing a new home console.
Speaking to Forbes, Fils-Aime commented: "When the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform, that's when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We're not there yet, from a Wii perspective."
Fils-Aime was also lukewarm about the importance of high definition graphics and 3D technology, saying: "For us, technology is not an endpoint. Technology is an enabler for fantastic consumer experiences. So from a hardware standpoint, we are always looking at technology. But in the end, the technology has to enable a new, unique experience."
"So when people talk about high definition for the Wii console our feedback is that that by itself will not create a brand new experience," he continued. "Therefore, we're not interested. What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences. Technology has to enable it, not to be a means all by itself."
Asked whether the company had any plans to sell virtual items, in an apparent comparison between Miis and the Xbox's Avatars, Fils-Aime was clear that, "We don't think it's an idea that creates value for the consumer."
On the question of increased competition from Microsoft and Sony's forthcoming motion controllers Fils-Aime cautioned that: "Our competition will face their own challenges. They'll have to create compelling software. They'll need to offer it at a price point that makes sense."
"They will be separately challenged because the motion-enabled part of their business will only be a small part of their line. For us, it's core to what we do," he said.
Fils-Aime also dismissed any talk of competition with Apple and its handhelds, stating: "There's been no data to suggest an encroachment on our business."
"On the other hand, we recognise that consumers have a limited amount of entertainment time, and anything that takes entertainment time away from the Nintendo DS, DSi and Wii is a competitor," he said. "And so from that standpoint, we need to build experiences that are compelling and sticky, and that consumers can get excited about. That's our challenge."

via Eurogamer
Nintendo has announced that the Hanabi Festival returns to Virtual Console starting this week, and that Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is among the games due out during its latest run.
The Hanabi Festival is Nintendo's way of flogging retro games previously only released in Japan through WiiWare, and is named after a Japanese fireworks festival.
The latest Hanabi kicks off on Friday 12th March, and will include Rondo of Blood (originally only released on the PC Engine in Japan), Milon's Secret Castle (NES), Ironclad (NeoGeo) and Lode Runner (NES). Exact dates for those games are TBC.
Rondo of Blood was last seen on PSP in 2008's Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. It came out in Japan on Virtual Console in April 2008 as well.
