nffc_evans proposes " Picture Solve "Pictionary freedom meant for multiplayer using the Nintendo DS.
So, as Jan and a few others will testify, I've been building a smallish 2 player drawing game called Picture Solve. Without wanting to give too much away, it's for a project I'm working on and in a few days I'll be letting people use it and recording some data.
The idea behind the game is to use the DS to encourage spelling in the early years.
Anyway, I thought it would be a great idea to give you guys the current NDS file. You will need 2 DS consoles to play this, as it is a multiplayer game using NiFi, credit for this which must go to Jan!
The point of this is to receive your guys feedback, and ANY suggestions you might have. I'm all ears! Enjoy

Kazuki is currently developing an adaptation of the popular multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 for the Nintendo DS, " Team Fortress 2 DS . The game is not finished yet or really played but is already well advanced.
Controls
DPad - left/right to move
A - Jump. The Scout(1st class) can double jump by pressing A while in the air.
B - Fire (currently only Soldier w/ rockets and Demoman w/ primary/secondary)
Y - Secondary Fire (Demoman: detonate stickybombs)
X - Reload
L - Change weapon backwards
R - Change weapon forwards
Touch Screen - Change class (must be in your team's base), health/reload testing
01-25-11
- Switched the functions of the X and Y buttons. Let me know if you liked it better the other way around!
- Blu team can no longer go into Red's base and vice-versa.
- Swapped positions of Blu and Red bases to make it more intuitive since Blu team attacks in attack/defend game types and heading to the right is usually associated with moving forward in a side-scrolling game.
- Started working on an actual map. If anyone's played Team Fortress 2 before, the map will be Sawmill.
* I still have no idea how I am going to code in collisions with platforms and stuff without having to hard-code them in. Any ideas?
* I also need advice on how best to implement shooting with the non-projectile weapons. Should I just use a sprite? Is there any trickery I can do with drawing pixels? I have no clue. :c
01-22-11
- Clip and ammo values now on the bottom right.
- Demoman (4th class) can now fire his primary weapon (grenade launcher) .
- Demoman can also fire his secondary weapon (stickybomb launcher).
- - Only 8 stickies can be out at once. Y button 'detonates' them. (They're only deleted currently.)
- Added reloading and reload sound effects for all classes. Press X to reload.
- Plus/minus buttons on touch screen now increase/decrease the ammo in your clip for reloading tests.
- Up and Down changes amount of metal or cloak if you are an Engineer (6th) or Spy (9th) (for testing).
01-18-11
Changed the 'gameplay' from a horizontal scroller with depth back to just a flat horizontal scroller. Having to deal with jump position, whether or not you're in front of or behind objects, etc. using pseudo-3D in a 2D space was ridiculous and I'm not going to deal with that at all. :3
Health is displayed and you can now choose your team when starting the game (either by stylus or pressing the Y/B/A buttons). If you want to change classes you have to be inside your team's 'base' for it to change.
The four buttons on the right of the bottom screen are for testing. The faces increase/decrease health by 50 at once and the +/- buttons increase or decrease your health as you hold the stylus on them.
Only one class can fire right now and it's the Soldier (guy with rocket launcher; first row, middle column). Currently the rocket only just moves until it hits the edge of the room and deletes itself.

Though it's not quite as "nationwide" as the Pokemon Black and White mall tour, Nintendo is giving residents of some US cities the opportunity to sample the 3DS and some of its games before release, through a four-city demo tour.
From March 11 through April 3, interested gamers in NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, and LA will have the opportunity to enter the scary-sounding "Nintendo 3DS Demo Pod," seen above in a picture shared on Twitter, and try Face Raiders, the Mii Maker (with the option to upload the created Mii to Facebook), and other built-in features, and play launch games includingPilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, Nintendogs + Cats, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, and more.

Bad news for those that plan on using a flash card with their 3DS -- if Nintendo detects that you've been dabbing with one, the company might send a firmware update that could possibly brick your system. According to GoNintendo, Japanese retailer Enterking posted a warning message on their site, suggesting that your system might be unbootable after a software update if Nintendo detects you've been using an R4. Enterking is not buying used 3DSs that have a history of using an illegal cartridge -- a transparent indication that it's not taking any chances here. We can't know for sure if Nintendo will dish out said update or how Enterking might tell -- however, Nintendo did issue this statement to Eurogamerin response to their story on the topic:
"We do not discuss product security details (for obvious reasons), nor can we discuss the details of countermeasures available in the Nintendo 3DS system. Nintendo 3DS has the most up-to-date technology. The security has been designed to protect both the creative works in the software and to protect the Nintendo 3DS hardware system itself.
Nintendo, like most companies, takes a palpable stance against piracy. We recommend that those fortunate enough to own a 3DS stay away from the flash cards altogether, just in case.
Update: Flash cards aren't illegal to use per se -- homebrew, anyone? -- although certain countries have banned them from import and sale, and their widespread use for illegal activity makes them a dubious proposition quite often.

The Wiimote is a fantastic tool for hackers, given their affordability and how easy they are to work with. [Gareth] had a “eureka” moment while working on another Wiimote-based project, and with some alterations, converted it into an electronic whiteboard.
The whiteboard was built using the IR sensor he extracted from a Wiimote, which is wired to an EasyProp board to process the input. The Wiimote is aimed at a LCD screen, which can be “drawn” upon using a light pen he constructed from an IR led and a few batteries. Any movement of the pen is tracked by the Wiimote’s IR sensor and converted to an XY coordinate, which is then painted on the screen. The sensor has the ability to track up to four points at a time, so you can theoretically use up to four pens simultaneously.
[Gareth] points out that the sensor is not limited to tracking small displays, as the white board can be easily scaled up in size using any kind of rear projection device.
Continue reading to see a video of his whiteboard in action.

NES emulator has been updated. Changes:
- A very small bug has been fixed in the PPU savestate code - instead of simply jumping from NTSC to PAL or from PAL to Hybrid each time a state is loaded, it'll now actually load it from the savestate like it's supposed to.
- Another very small bug has also been fixed in the movie savestate code - if the movie had a non-empty description, loading a savestate for it would corrupt the description and the input data itself.

News via http://www.planetvb.com/modules/news...hp?storyid=316
At E3 1995 it was announced that now-defunct Boss Game Studios were working on an unnamed Virtual Boy title. Thanks to a tip from our reader gilgamesh, we were now able to talk to two of the people behind the game and uncover details about it.
The game was called "3D Tank" and was a 1st person sci-fi tank sim (like the arcade classic, Battlezone). It was developed by a team of three at Boss back in 1995. Hans Piwenitzky created the initial concept in form of a "15-20 second animated demo created with an early version of Autodesk 3D, complete with a floating HUD UI". Todd Downing created further concept art, but did not spend much time on the game either since it was a secondary project in his workload. "Perhaps a week of work, no longer", he said. Third was an unknown programmer, who by far spend the most time on the game.
Statements regarding how far 3D Tank had come are conflicting, though. According to Todd Downing "the game was completed but Nintendo killed the Virtual Boy platform just prior to 3D Tank's release, so it never made it out the door." Hans Piwenitzky on the other hand told us that "nothing was ever pursued for the 3D Tank title. Boss Game did have a Virtual Boy, and had plans to develop titles for the system, but they never went further." Of course, this does not come surprising if one keeps in mind that we're talking about 17 years ago here, with both having only spend a very short timespan on the project.
However, by putting together all the available bits of information, it seems that 3D Tank was in development for some months before Boss decided to "not pursue any futher development for the Virtual Boy". As Todd Downing told us, he "personally witnessed actual gameplay on the programmer's dev kit. It had a functioning UI and controls, and at least one playable level."
Unfortunately, none of the assets from the game were attainable, or even seem to have survived. "Honestly I doubt any of the finished work survived. All of our work (code and art alike) was for-hire, meaning Boss owned it all. And none of the guys who worked on the game were at Boss when they closed up shop." Downing said.

The Nintendo 3DS has a lot of cool features, one of which is backward compatibility with DS games. But while convenient, this backward compatibility is far from perfect. Because the screens on the 3DS have a higher resolution (400 x 240 on top, 320 x 240 on bottom, versus the DS's 256 x 192 screens) DS games are either upscaled to fit the bottom screen, or shown in tiny windows on both screens if you hold Start and Select while loading the game. In either case, it's not great.

Reggie Fils-Aime has told press that the sparse first-party release schedule for the Wii this year is largely the result of Nintendo focusing on getting 3DS out to market.
Nintendo's only currently scheduled big title for Wii is Zelda: Skyward Sword - with Kirby's Epic Yarn and Mario Sports Mix its only recent releases. However, that will change, said Fils-Aime, claiming the company has not abandoned its console.
"We have had to effectively prepare for the launch of 3DS as well as effectively prepare for the launch of Pokémon Black and White," Fils-Aime told IGN.
"Candidly, we've pushed out some Wii launches so we can focus on our handheld business. We're already juggling two big balls. To add a third would be a little bit challenging. Or a fourth or a fifth.
"We're waiting to space things out and let Pokémon Black and White and 3DS live and breathe out there. But there's content coming and we'll be sharing more in the weeks ahead. We'll be bringing some content out before E3 and then certainly at E3 we'll be sharing some news."

The official UK launch partner of the 3DS will be HMV.
The official UK launch, therefore, will happen at the shop-chain's flagship store on 150 Oxford Street, London. A northern launch extravaganza will happen HMV LiverpoolOne.
Both events begin 11pm Thursday night (24th March) - an hour and a minute before the UK 3DS officially goes on sale.
Those shops plus 100 other HMV stores will open at midnight to welcome Nintendo's new handheld to the UK.
The first 500 people through the doors at HMV Oxford Street will have free dibs on a 3DS game of their choosing. All others will get a space blanket (tin foil wrap), t-shirt and a copy of Official Nintendo Magazine. You can play Street Fighter IV and Pro Evolution Soccer competitively on stage , too.
Space is limited, and wristbands for entry will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. HMV expects queues to form "a good few days" before the Thursday-night start.
As well as those public events, Nintendo will host a special VIP bash at London's Old Billingsgate building for 2000 guests. That's a great place for a Eurogamer Expo 2009, if you ask me. Comedian Russell Kane will host and introduce live performances from Plan B, Hadouken, DJ Yoda and Parade.
Tickets will be offered via a prize draw to all UK Club Nintendo members today. Various other competitions will also offer a way in.
There's no word on who the celebrities will be attending the launch events. The Nintendo Wii, you may remember, arrived in the UK with bang, promoted by mega-stars Ian Wright, Pat Cash, Ricky Hatton and Nell McAndrew.

Ubisoft shelves plans for roll-out here, although game will still arrive in Europe
'Controversial' Wii and PS3 title We Dare will not be released in the UK.
A statement from Ubisoft says the decision was made "following the public reaction to the 12+ rating of We Dare".
The game, quietly announced in January and only gaining attention last month thanks to a provocative teaser trailer, was criticised in media reports for carrying a relatively young age rating despite being billed as featuring "naughty" but "hilarious, light-hearted" and playful content.
The game was rated PEGI 12.
We Dare is a minigame title that is pitched as putting players in compromising situations - the trailer for the game featured two couples swapping partners and facing awkward gameplay scenarios when following on-screen instructions.
The Sun and The Telegraph both ran pieces decrying the content, with quotes from angered parents, even though the footage of the ad was not entirely reflective of the on-screen game content. (Ubisoft's admission that it has shelved the UK release plans were first published in The Telegraph this evening.)
However, ratings body PEGI, its governing organisation ISFE, and the VSC - which implements PEGI in the UK - had all come out in defence of the game's rating.
Ubisoft had even added a 'parental guidance' label to the box art to make it clear the game isn't suited for all audiences.
The game will still be released elsewhere in Europe. Ubisoft North America had already told Kotaku the game wasn't being released in that territory.

Pokémon Black/White, the latest entries in Nintendo's beast-battling handheld series, notched up a whopping 1.08 million purchases in its first day on sale in the US alone.
That makes it the fastest-selling Pokémon title ever, smashing the 780,000 tally set by Pokémon Diamond/Pearl in 2007.
You should of course bear in mind that these sales are spread across two separate games, but still, those are some massive figures.
"These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems," claimed Nintendo marketing man Charlie Scibetta.
"Already established as the nation's best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience."
Nintendo hasn't released UK sales figures, but the games topped the multiformat charts after their first week on release. The games have sold over five million copies in Japan since they launched there in September last year.
It's hard to begrudge Nintendo its success here. The games really are rather good.
"With a great many small and well-placed innovations, a vivacious, inventive new cast and the biggest cosmetic makeover the series has ever seen, Pokémon Black and White makes it all feel new again," wrote Eurogamer's Keza MacDonald in her 9/10 review
