Square's classic SNES RPG Final Fantasy III arrives on the Wii's Virtual Console download service this Friday, Nintendo has announced.
It's the original 1994 version and will set you back a princely 900 Wii Points – that translates to a little under £7 in real money. It's worth noting that SNES games are usually 800 Points. No explanation has been offered for the price hike.
Now for the confusing part. Technically this is actually Final Fantasy VI. However, seeing as when it was initially released in the US the first two titles in the series had never left Japan, it was referred to as Final Fantasy III in the West.
It was ported to the PSone in 1999 and then the Game Boy Advance in 2007, where it won a glowing 9/10 from this very site.
Also available for download this Friday on Wii is the ambiguously titled Bingo Party Deluxe (500 Points). DSiWare gets a slightly more meaty selection with strategy effort Castle Conqueror (500 Points), puzzle platformer Arctic Escape (500 Points) and 5-in-1 Mahjong (200 Points).

News via http://dsx86.patrickaalto.com/DSblog.html
For the past week I have been working on the original DSx86 instead of DS2x86. I began implementing the required changes in order to enable running in 286 protected mode (for Windows 3.0 Standard Mode). I have changed the memory access method to enable access to full 16MB of memory (of which around 12MB would be actually available in DSi mode, and some hundred kilobytes in the normal DS mode). It looks like Windows 3.0 only requires 24KB of extended memory to be able to run in Standard Mode, so this should make it possible to run Windows 3.0 in this mode also with DS Lite and the original "phat" DS. It will run much better on a DSi when using DSi mode, though.
The current status is that Windows 3.0 enters protected mode fine, does some setup operations, then returns to real mode (which on a 286 processor means resetting the processor using a Triple Fault exception). After that things start to go wrong somewhere in my code, but I need to add better protected mode debugging features before I can properly start working on this problem.
I had some trouble implementing proper triple fault handling, as my first information source, the DOSBox source code, was of no help. I tried to force DOSBox to report that the processor is a 80286 when Windows 3.0 checks for processor type, but when Windows 3.0 then causes a triple fault, DOSBox simply crashes with a stack overflow. Thus, I had to hunt the net for better description about what exactly should happen when the CPU gets reset in a 80286 machine. The best source I have found so far is the Protected Mode Basics document by Robert Collins. However, it seems that the actual behaviour that happens after a reset depends on the system BIOS, and this document only shows a method where the CMOS Shutdown Byte is set to a value of 0x05. Windows 3.0 however gives it a value of 0x09, which does not seem to work similarly. I think I have now been able to determine what the BIOS is supposed to do for Windows 3.0, but since something still goes wrong there I am not absolutely sure. I am still hunting for more information, and also debugging the Windows 3.0 code further.
Besides this problem, it has been quite easy and fun to work on the old DSx86 code, as I have been able to use No$GBA and iDeaS for testing, so that I haven't needed to copy anything to real hardware. With iDeaS I can even debug and trace through my code, which has been a great help when implementing the more difficult protected mode features. I even found a bug in a code I ported from DS2x86, so this will help me in improving DS2x86 protected mode features as well.
I will probably not be able to make the code run completely by the next weekend, so I plan to switch to working on DS2x86 for the next week. It has a lot of opcode and other work still remaining, thanks for all the debug logs you have been sending since the last version! Those should keep me busy for the next week.

It seems that the upcoming 3DS revamp of N64 classic Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be more than just a scene-for-scene remake – Nintendo is adding exclusive new content too.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata made the announcement in an interview with creator Shigeru Miyamoto on the platform holder's official website, but stopped short of offering exact details of what's in store.
"Of course, the Nintendo 3DS version of Ocarina of Time is crammed with interesting things that weren't in the Nintendo 64 version," he teased, "but we'll wait to talk about those."
We already know that the game will include the extra Master Quest content that came with the GameCube re-release but we'll just have to wait and see what else Miyamoto and his team have in store. The game is due for release this June.

The Nintendo 3DS price war ramped up this morning after supermarket Morrisons listed the handheld for an eye-catching £187.
It is the latest price drop in a retailer scramble that can only benefit consumers.
Morrisons' Nintendo 3DS price, spotted by Official Nintendo Magazine, is the cheapest available.
To get it for £187, though, you have to pre-order – and hand over a £10 deposit.
"Nintendo 3DS consoles are available to collect in store from the 25th March," the supermarket said.
"All pre-order consoles must be collected by Thursday the 31st March, after which your order will be cancelled and your deposit refunded. A £10 deposit is required when pre-ordering the Nintendo 3DS."
UK shops are scrambling to get your business in what is expected to be the biggest game console launch ever.
Shop GAME will give you a trade-in price of £190 on the £196.99 Nintendo 3DS if you bring it back within a month of buying it.
If you want to trade for cash, you'll get £180 – effectively meaning the Nintendo 3DS, which goes on sale on 25th March, costs £17 to rent for a month from GAME.
Will a shop dare to go below £187?

Nintendo sold 454,000 Wii consoles in the USA in February, according to the latest NPD report, making it the fastest console ever to reach an install base of 35 million in the territory.
The company was full of praise for its first and third party sales catalogue, too, highlighting the sales of Just Dance 2 and a number of Nintendo published mainstays.
"February proved to be a notable month for Nintendo software as well," read a statement from the company. "Not only was Just Dance 2 from Ubisoft the No. 1 best-selling game of the month with more than 554,000 sold, but four Nintendo games reached new sales milestones.
"Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii console, which launched in November 2010, crossed the 2 million mark in February, while New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which launched in November 2009, just crossed the 8 million sales mark.
"On the portable side, the Pokémon SoulSilver Version game for the Nintendo DS family of systems launched in March 2010 and crossed the 2 million sales mark in February, while the New Super Mario Bros. game, which launched in May 2006, just passed 9 million in sales. These milestones further demonstrate the 'evergreen' nature of games that play on Nintendo systems."
Sony decided not to release its hardware figures from the report, leading analysts to assume that the platform holder placed third in the sales rankings. Nonetheless, Sony was confident that retail performance for both its hardware and software remains strong.
"NPD's February numbers illustrate continued growth of the entire PlayStation 3 ecosystem, including increases in hardware, software and peripheral sales," said Patrick Seybold, senior director of corporate communications at SCEA.
"PlayStation's exclusive titles, combined with stereoscopic 3D and precision motion controlled gaming, continue to resonate with consumers, and we look forward to furthering the momentum with MotorStorm Apocalypse and SOCOM 4 next month."
Last night, Microsoft revealed that it had sold 535,000 consoles in the month, continuing its reign as top seller in the US.

KRIKzz, the creator of the Everdrive products for retro consoles, has announced that he is working on a new project for the Nintendo 64. Not many details are known so far, but he plans on using SD for flashram (unless it is too slow, in which case he will be using CompactFlash (CF) card memory).
Check the following link below for photos of his current development. You can see the device is plugged into an open N64 console and wired to an Altera logic development board.

The EZTeam have released kernel 3.0 OB6 for the EZ5i line of flash cards. It joins the other top tier cards in allowing support for the 3ds (potential users do note Nintendo have promised a counter update to all this to be released in the near future) and fixes a bunch of games (including pokemon).
To achieve 3ds compatibility the internal firmware needed an update to v103 for which you need to be at v101 to start the update process (an error should be displayed if you are lower than that but do try to sort things before you get to that stage- this thread has links on the EZ5i firmware).
Changelog
Firmware upgrade
1.Support 3DS,add new AP patch
2.Show warning screens when can not find any TF card and kernel.
3.fireware updated to V103, must upgrade from V101, if not, please update to V101

AnyTitle Deleter MOD v7 released by Red Squirrel.
AnyTitle Deleter MOD is an unofficial mod by Red Squirrel of tona's AnyTitle Deleter, which allows you to completely delete (almost) any title on your Wii. This is useful as a space-freeing application, an informative application, and a paranoia tool.
It keeps all original tona's AnyTitle Deleter functions but it allows the program to show the real names of titles instead of just ID numbers, making it easier to select which ones you actually want to delete.
From MOD v3 it has also many new features, as a installed titles backupper, IOS chooser, display modes or the possibility to exit rebooting the Wii.
Changelog
MOD v7: - Improved application's general efficency: now all titles names will be "obtained from NAND" at program's startup and saved in an array. In this way the program has not to reload them (re-accessing to the NAND) every time you change a page or a title group (like happen in past versions!) but it simply takes them from the array. This means a significant improve to the time efficency of the program (specially if you have many titles installed!)
- Improved the functions to get title names from NAND.
- Now titles names obtained from NAND will be displayed in your Wii system language!
- Added a function to get Hidden Channels names from NAND. I know it is not very useful at all because hidden channels are usually only three (DVDx, EULA and regsel), but if I remember well there was a tool (by WiiPower?) to create "homebrew" hidden channels, so this function could still be usefull to someone.
- Thanks to above news, now only DLC content titles have to take their names from database.txt, all other titles names can be obtained from NAND (compatibility is at 99%).
- Given the current high compatibility, now the program tries to obtain titles names from the database.txt only for DLC content titles!
- Many changes to the application's pages graphics structure!
- Now some of the program strings are colored to highlight some relevant concepts and to make the general graphics nicer.
- Now the titles will be displayed in a more readable "table"
- Increased the titles displayed in every page from 12 to 20.
- Removed the function to update the database.txt from network. Now that only few title names are taken from it (only those of DLC contents) this function is essentially useless.
- Added three display modes for the titles: ID + CODE + NAME, CODE + NAME and ONLY NAME.
- Now the 2 button is used to switch between the three display modes.
- Improved the titles uninstallation function.
- The uninstallation page now shows also many title's details: ID, code, name, IOS required, version and if fakesigned (thanks to bushing!).
- Improved brick prevention functions.
- Changed and improved the backup titles list function.
- Now you can choose between two different backup titles list modes: into a TXT file or into a CSV file.
- Now in the backup file of your titles list will be inserted also the title's version.
- A general clean up to the code.
