Nintendo has offered up a few new details about the forthcoming 3DS entry in its Animal Crossing franchise.A new developer roundtable discussion, posted to the US Nintendo Channel and reproduced below courtesy of YouTuber NintenDaan, sees series producer Katsuya Eguchi discuss the game's new features with its director Aya Kyogoku, design lead Koji Takahashi and veteran Nintendo sound director Kazumi Totaka.Among the revelations was news that this time out you'll play as the mayor, allowing greater control over how your town looks. Want to add some benches or streetlamps? Go nuts. You clearly can't handle all that hard work on your own though, so Nintendo has granted you a secretary called Shizu to help out."She's a little clumsy so I'm not sure how good of a job she can do," warned Kyogoku. The dimensions of the game's character models have been made a little more lifelike to better convey physical differences between the animals. It also means you'll have a greater array of character customisation options available to you."The big thing is that now there are separate tops and bottoms," explained Takahashi. "So girls can wear pants and boys... well..."Yes chaps, you can don a skirt should you so desire. There's more item customisation this time too, including a furniture shop where you can apparently design your own cushions. You can also tweak your home's exterior, with everything from fence posts to your mailbox now tweakable. The town has increased in size since the last game with new additions including a shopping mall on the opposite side of the train tracks. The beach is bigger too, and you can even go for a swim in the ocean.Nintendo have also included StreetPass features that let you exchange house designs with other players. These will be displayed in a 'model home' area at one end of the town.Surely the biggest bombshell of all though is news that reviled capitalist whip-cracker Tom Nook has left his store behind and got himself a new job. He's now the town's estate agent.Watch the whole clip below for new footage and a few more tidbits, including Totaka-san grabbing an acoustic guitar and playing things out with the game's new theme.Nintendo still hasn't put a release date on the follow up to Wii entry Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City, but it's expected on shelves some time next year

We contacted GameStop which confirmed the rumour but stressed that Nintendo will be issuing details on the exact nature ofChronicle's US release shortly.
We gave the game a 9 back in August, you can read the full review here.

We previewed Hyperkin's SupaBoy back in the summer and loved the idea of toting 'round original SNES games without resorting to Ben Heck-style crafting. The handheld takes full-size cartridges, packs a 3.5-inch screen and a battery that's disappointingly rated for just two point five hours (best keep a power cable handy). It'll also double as a home console: there's an AV-out port and slots for two classic controllers for when you wanna kick it old-school. It's reportedly compatible with titles like Mario World, A Link to the Past and Starwing Starfox, but who needs them when we've got a mint condition copy of Tetris Attack at home? It'll cost you $80 and is available from Amazon as of yesterday -- we suggest you get to practicing blowing the dirt from the connectors, since you'll be doing a lot of it soon.

The arrival of Wii U next year won't mean the death of the Wii, according to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.
The exec told Time that Wii is still performing well, and reaching a new audience of gamers at its lowest price point to date."The consumer buying Wii hardware today is going to be a different consumer than the one who will be buying Wii U in the future," he said.
"This is the first holiday that the Wii is available at $149.99 or below, so it's an expanded demographic we're reaching. These are consumers who have heard about Wii for the past couple years, but at $199 or $249 it was economically out of their reach.
"We haven't announced pricing for Wii U, but you can definitely expect that pricing is going to be different and that the games are going to be different," Fils-Aime added.
"We do believe that Wii and Wii U will coexist for some time. As we drive the install base of Wii, we're really setting people up to take their gaming library and be able to transfer it over to Wii U."
The Wii, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land each sold over half a million units in the US on Black Friday.

Nintendo won't port Super Mario Galaxy 2 to the 3DS because Mario looks like a "speck" on the smaller handheld screen. The Japanese game maker explored the possibility as it was creating Super Mario 3D Land, which launched last month to critical and commercial acclaim - but quickly found the superb 2010 Wii platformer was inappropriate for the 3DS."When we started developing [Super Mario 3D Land], we displayed Super Mario Galaxy 2 on a small TV monitor and found that Mario looked like a speck and that the game was difficult to play," Super Mario 3D Land director Koichi Hayashida told IGN (via VG247)"This led us to look into the camera and terrain types that would be conducive to playing on a portable screen with a relatively large Mario. If we were making a console game, from the very start, we wouldn't have been thinking about any of those things, and I think the game would have probably been a lot different."Eurogamer's Super Mario 3D Land review returned a 9/10. It is the fastest-selling portable Mario game ever in the US.

The Wii U will appeal to a very different consumer than the Wii does today, Nintendo has said.Nintendo expects the Wii to sell well this Christmas, buoyed by The Legend of Zelda and a cheaper price point, US boss Reggie Fils-Aime told Time. The Wii U, however, will launch with a different price and games."The consumer buying Wii hardware today is going to be a different consumer than the one who will be buying Wii U in the future," Fils-Aime said."This is the first holiday that the Wii is available at $149.99 or below, so it's an expanded demographic we're reaching. These are consumers who have heard about Wii for the past couple years, but at $199 or $249 it was economically out of their reach."We haven't announced pricing for Wii U, but you can definitely expect that pricing is going to be different and that the games are going to be different."Despite this the Nintendo of America boss expects the Wii U, due out next year, to overlap with the Wii - and hopes Wii gamers will migrate to Wii U, which is backwards compatible."We do believe that Wii and Wii U will coexist for some time. As we drive the install base of Wii, we're really setting people up to take their gaming library and be able to transfer it over to Wii U."Meanwhile, Fils-Aime said Nintendo remains committed to the DS family of consoles, despite the strong push on 3DS.The DS, he said, now appeals to parents who wish to buy their young children their first console."We think the DS is going to sell well this holiday season," he said. "It's going to appeal to a different consumer. You can buy a DS Lite for $99. For a parent with a five or six year-old, maybe that's the first handheld you buy them. It's got a fantastic library of games - Super Mario Bros DS, Mario Kart DS - I think over 1400 games. I think it's a different kind of consumer than those who really want to experience the 3D of the 3DS.

December 2nd, 2011, 02:12 Posted By: wraggster
One million UK sales. 13 No.1 chart positions this year alone. 10m fans worldwide. No, the game we’re talking about isn’t a Mario or a Zelda. Nor is it Call of Duty or FIFA. It’s not even from a Top Five publisher.
This year’s best-selling Wii title was Zumba Fitness from 505 Games. A release with a truly distinctive selling point that surprised as much as it succeeded, and one that proved there is plenty of life left in the ever-competitive fitness and dancing game genres.
“Zumba Fitness differs to other games on the market,” says 505’s general manager for UK and Export Ralph Pitt-Stanley. “It isn’t just a dance game, it’s a fun, interactive, social exercise experience that fuses contagious Latin and international rhythms together. This fun element has been captured in the game which resonates with the consumer and is the key reason for its success.”
It wasn’t just a single-format success either. The game regularly reached the Top Five in the separate Xbox 360 and PS3 games charts throughout the summer – a fact 505 is quick to point out. Not only did Zumba perform strongly, it dominated at a time when new releases are scarce, taking full advantage of the summer games lull with a point of difference perfect for non-gamers and Zumba fans.
Not content with one success, 505 is springing Zumba Fitness 2 onto store shelves today (Friday, November 25th), to capitalise on the Christmas and New Year period – a time that typically sees sales of fitness games and DVDs rocket.
A Kinect version of the game is also due early next year.
Pitt-Stanley adds: “Given the fact Zumba Fitness has been the No.1 selling Wii title of 2011, there is massive excitement at retail about the prospect of a second version
.“Zumba has sold the best part of 1m units and now the brand is back bigger and better than before. It has already proven itself an evergreen product that sells each and every week. This kind of excitement creates a fantastic prospect for the second game.”
Survival of the fittest
Of course, the success of Zumba Fitness partly comes down to the real life dancing phenomenon that has swept the globe, and 505 is happy to admit this.
The program, set up in the ‘90s, mixes easy-to-follow choreographies with international rhythms. By allowing class goers to party themselves into shape, Zumba has fast become a craze in recent years. It’s no longer only a type of dance class; it’s now its own brand. 12m people attend Zumba classes in 110,000 locations across 125 different countries. There’s probably one in your local gym.
“It’s a huge phenomenon which has taken the world by storm,” says Pitt-Stanley. “Already in the hearts and minds of thousands of women, the game was a natural progression and it too has grown as the brand itself has become even more popular. It perfectly complements a Zumba class.
“Zumba has such a wide appeal, ranging from kids, teenagers, mums and grandmothers. It has been these fans that have created the momentum for Zumba Fitness. They are amongst the most avid and loyal fans out there, wanting to consume all things Zumba starting with the class itself to the clothing through to the video game. The success of the game is down to the fans’ enthusiasm for the brand.
”These fans are obviously not your usual gamers. By this notion they may not face the decision of choosing one or two £40 games from 20 Christmas blockbusters – if they want more Zumba, they’ll opt for Fitness 2. And with its budget price tag they’ll be more likely to.
X Factor ads
505 officially announced the sequel in an X Factor TV advertisement last month to highlight the November 25th release date and the success of the original. It’s following this up with online activity throughout Christmas and beyond, with what Pitt-Stanley describes as a “highly targeted multimedia approach” and “high-profile TV commitment”.
He adds: “Zumba Fitness resonates with the lifestyle of the Zumba fans, so keeping fit during Christmas and beyond will be an important element for our campaign. You’ll see Zumba Fitness 2 in all of the must-have lists for Christmas across key women’s and mainstream publications. It really is the perfect Christmas stocking present.”
But if the original Zumba Fitness is anything to go by, 505’s new fitness title will be dancing up the charts well beyond Christmas and into the New Year.
RETAIL WORKOUT
MCV asks several top UK retailers how they expect Zumba Fitness 2 to perform
Andrew Thompson – Head of games, Asda
“Zumba Fitness has been a fantastic success for Asda in 2011, and has helped drive sales throughout the summer period. Zumba Fitness 2 is set to sell by the bucketload this Christmas and is the perfect product for the core Asda shopper – mums.”
Richard Thompson – Games buyer, HMV
“It’s great news and excellent timing that Zumba Fitness 2, successor to one of the best-selling Wii games of 2011, will be out before Christmas. The Zumba craze is getting bigger all the time, which should help provide a real commercial opportunity for the market as it enters peak trading.”
Nick Elliott – Owner, Barkman Computers
“We’re really looking forward to the release of Zumba Fitness 2. The first one performed incredibly well for us and the brand awareness is fantastic. We have a lot of real life Zumba classes running in our local area so adverts and flyers are all over town. I’m sure the second game will do equally well for us.”
Gurdeep Hunjan – Games buying manager, Sainsbury’s
“We are delighted that Zumba Fitness 2 is on the calendar this side of Christmas. After the tremendous success of the first this has to be a long-term banker. Fitness games this January should also be stronger than ever.”

Nintendo has insisted that the Game Boy Advance games on offer to 3DS early adopters through the Ambassador Programme will be released this year.
The company's Spanish website said the ten free games, due as compensation for the global 3DS price drop in August, would be "available next year." Nintendo has since confirmed to ONM that the games will be released in 2011 as promised.
"The forthcoming ten GBA Virtual Console titles available for registrants of the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Programme will be available before the end of December 2011. We will make further announcements in due course."
Nintendo is still yet to confirm the full line-up, though it is known to include Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc: Minigame Mania, andMario Vs. Donkey Kong. Reports have also claimed that Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, and Super Mario Bros 3: Super Mario Advance 4, will also be included.

The 3DS's Virtual Console adds an extra layer of abstraction today, with the Game Boy port of the NES version of Adventure Island II (called, confusingly enough, "Adventure Island.") You can enjoy this Game Boy version of an NES game in a little Game Boy-looking window on your 3DS!
DSiWare features Double Bloob, a vertical shooter/puzzle game we first covered way back in 2007, years before there even was a DSiWare service. It's gone through a lot of changes since then, not the least of which was a departure of the development team from its former home at the infamous Nibris.

The Nintendo 3DS has managed to equal the year one sales of its predecessor, the Nintendo DS, after just eight months.
"In sales through this past Saturday - 8 months - [the 3DS] has outsold the full 12 months of the original DS," Nintendo Of America president Reggie Fils-Aimes told Time.
"During that 12 months time, the original DS sold 2.37 million and we just surpassed that this past Saturday, so we've got real good momentum going into the holidays."
He also told the magazine that Super Mario 3D Land has brought a whole new range of consumers to the product.
Last month Fil-Aimes confirmed that the 3DS would soon be able to support paid DLC from publishers.

The monsters of Resident Evil: Revelations will arrive in Europe on January 27, and they'll bring another monster along with them: the 3DS-enlarging Circle Pad Pro. Nintendo UK announced today that the 3DS attachment will be bundled with a "special limited edition" package of Capcom's horror game.Revelations will also be sold separately.
This is the first official announcement of a release date for the peripheral outside of Japan. Capcom USA has shown the game to US press with the attachment, indicating future availability in North America. Capcom USA also said there were no plans for a Circle Pad Pro/Revelations bundle here.

For those of us who can’t be bothered to dig out or N64 whenever we want to playOcarina of Time or our NES whenever we get the urge to play Battletoads, emulators are a godsend. There is a problem, though. A keyboard doesn’t provide the right experience as a the classic NES ‘brick’ or the N64 tritopus controllers. Enter theFuntendo, a breakout box that converts all your well-loved controllers to USB.
The Funtendo uses the Gadget Gangster Propeller Platform with a terminal block module. Putting together the electronics is fairly easy; just strip the ends of the controllers and screw them down to the terminal blocks. N64, NES and Wii Classic Controllers are supported by the Funtendo. Going for the Classic Controller over a Super Nintendo controller reduces the complexity of the build. The Classic Controller can play SNES games and uses an I2C bus, making it easier to wire.
For interfacing the controllers to the computer, the Parallax Propeller Tool, Parallax serial terminal, and PPJoy convert button mashing into readable buttons for the emulator. The build may take more time than pulling an NES out of the attic, but even with a large project box it takes up much less space.

An officially licensed Mario Kart 7 steering wheel spotted last month for release in Japan will be available to buy in the UK next month, Nintendo has confirmed.Created by peripherals manufacturer Hori, the wheel has Nintendo's official stamp of approval. There's no word on how much it will cost here, although in Japan it was priced at 1280 yen (about £10.50).The wheel attachment fits snugly around the 3DS, allowing players extra grip for the game's tilt-sensing gyroscopic controls.Mario Kart 7's arm-swerving control method is optional and sees gameplay transferred into first-person view. It's a control pad-free alternative similar to the Wii Wheel add-on for Mario Kart Wii.Simon Parkin rated the game 8/10 in Eurogamer's Mario Kart 7 review.

Mario Kart 7 is, as its predecessors always have been, an exceedingly hateful game. Three laps' worth of perfect corner negotiation, aggressive drafting and creating enough sparks to manufacture a small sun can be overturned instantly, sometimes in sight of the finish line. Who am I kidding? It is always in sight of the finish line, and it's always Toad, an innocuous-looking bastard who's caused me to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory more times than I could ever hope to count. (Estimated guess, though: A hundred billion.)
Frustrating though they may be, those turnabouts are how the franchise skirts around recurring poxes of the racing genre. Last place racers get far more potent weaponry than the pace cars -- not rubber-banding in the traditional sense, but the result's the same. Mario Kart 7's changes and additions are few in number, but they're rich in the refinement of that concept. More than ever, it's a game about getting screwed over without getting too angry about it, a pair of goals it achieves with panache.

Open the latest issue of Nintendo Power and you'll find yourself looking at four pages of heaven. Rhythm Heaven, specifically. The magazine drops the news we've been waiting for: an official release window for the Wii iteration of Nintendo and Tsunku's musical minigame series, titled Rhythm Heaven Fever. It's set for February 2012.
The article introduces several of the vibrantly cartoonish, inexplicable activities in which you'll engage, including seesaw inspection, tambourine practice with a monkey instructor, and protecting your date from an onslaught of soccer balls.

Nintendo's 3DS has outstripped the first-year sales figure of its 3DS predecessor.
Nintendo Of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told USA Today that the boost to 3DS sales following the release of Super Mario 3D Land - which has sold half a million units in the to become thefastest-selling Mario handheld game of all time - and the recentglobal price drop had seen 3DS sales surge past those of its predecessor.
"What this has been able to do is drive our Nintendo 3DS business in only eight months to surpass the full first-year volume of the original DS, and we still have the bulk of the holiday to go," he said. "And we still have the launch of Mario Kart 7 to continue driving full-year sales of Nintendo 3DS."
By the end of October, 1.65 million 3DS units had been sold in the United States. DS sold 2.37 million units in its first 12 months on shelves, meaning 720,000 3DS systems have been sold in the US so far this month. The lion's share of those followed Super Mario 3D Land's release on November 13; last week's sales were up 325 per cent on the first week of the month.

November is just about over and 3DS users are still without that firmware update announced last month. They needn't worry, though, because Nintendo says it's on the way. In a statement posted to its site yesterday, the company confirmed that the refresh "is in the final stages of internal testing," and that it will be released by December 8th -- not the end of November, as previously indicated. When it finally hits, users will be able to record 3D video, access new StreetPass games, and transfer data across their 3DS systems. These all sound like good things, but they'll only come to those who wait.

The Wii and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, as well as Super Mario 3D Land, each sold over 500 thousand units in US on Black Friday.
Skyward Sword has sold 535,000 units since November 20, which makes it the fastest-selling Zelda title ever. And Nintendo America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed to USA Today (thanks Industry Gamers) that Super Mario 3D Land has become the fastest-selling portable Mario game in Nintendo history with over 500k sales since its November 11 launch.
3DS sales were also triple that of the week November 6 - prior to Mario 3D Land's launch.
"What this has been able to do is drive our Nintendo 3DS business in only eight months to surpass the full first year volume of the original DS and we still have the bulk of the holiday to go," said Fils-Aime, confirming Nintendo's recent forecasts for first-year 3DS sales to surpass its predecessor's.
"And we still have the launch of Mario Kart 7 (out Dec 4) to continue driving our full-year sales on Nintendo 3DS," he added.
"We know that Black Friday and that entire week is a key selling week, and it is important for products like ours to have a jump in momentum, and we were fortunate to see that," continued Fils-Aime.
"For us, it really was driven by unique and powerful software and what gives us confidence is that we still have more software to launch in the balance of this holiday period."
