You'll be able to get your hands – and specifically your right hand – on theCircle Pad Pro in the US on February 7th, when the peripheral goes on sale exclusively at GameStop for $19.99. That's a full two weeks before the PlayStation Vita reminds portable gamers why a second analog stick is so important.
In addition to the obvious second stick, the Circle Pad Pro adds "additional shoulder buttons to give it a feel more akin to traditional console controllers." You'll get to put those shoulder buttons and that second stick to work playing both Resident Evil Revelations – which is much better with the peripheral – andMetal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater, which is targeted for a loose Q1 2012 release. While both Revelations and the Circle Pad Pro share a February 7th release, they don't appear to share Europe's "special limited edition" bundle offering. That's alright, you're probably waiting for the inevitable redesign with the second stick built-in, right?

The Monster Hunter series' firm grip on the Japanese public continues unabated, with the new Monster Hunter Tri-G selling like crazy in Japan. "Like crazy" in this case translates to 471,055 units in two days, according to Enterbrain estimates.
That release (and its attendant 3DS bundles) drove the 3DS to its best week to date in Japan. 378,114 units went to happy monster hunters, besting the 371,326 sold at launch. The game has yet to be announced for release outside of Japan -- though the accessory made for it is now confirmed for North America. Of course, a new Monster Hunter game won't have the same immediately noticeable effect on sales in any other region.

Generation Media asks how much TV marketing Nintendo has used to promote the 3DS compared to the original DS – and has it been effective?
With the Nintendo 3DS having sold more worldwide in its first year of release than the original DS, we look at how TV advertising has contributed to its success.
The chart below represents the cumulative number of individual TVRs that Nintendo DS campaigns achieved in the following years: 2005 (UK?launch year for DS) and 2011 (UK launch year for 3DS). A?TVR, or Television Rating, is the measure of popularity for a program or ad by comparing its audience to the population. One TVR is equivalent to one per cent of a target audience.
For both launches, TV ads began in March with similar levels of activity. In 2005 the campaign achieved 313 TVRs, with 304 TVRs achieved in 2011.
From April onwards, 2011’s strategy vastly differs. Where Nintendo supported the DS only during launch month, the 3DS has been supported through the year.
In total, the 3DS campaign has actually recorded 250 per cent more TVRs than the original DS.

New releases may have dried up for 2011, but Nintendo promises Wii and 3DS owners have plenty to look forward to next year.
The platform has dated a range of first-party titles for the first quarter, including Wii family title Mario Party 9 and 3DS adventure Kid Icarus: Uprising in March.
Nintendo's latest release schedule also revealed a number of sequels due in 2012, including PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond for Wii and DS footballer Inazuma Eleven 2. And Professor Layton will make his UK 3DS debut next year in his fifth puzzle title to land on these shores.
Finally, Nintendo confirmed release dates for Boom Street (January 6th), Resident Evil: Revelations (January 27th) and The Last Story (February 24th).
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D was promised a winter launch, while a vague '2012' release window was given for 3DS titles Mario Tennis and Luigi's Mansion 2.

Nintendo's 3DS sold 378,114 units in Japan last week, the best week of sales the system has seen since its launch in February.
The surge in sales - an increase week on week of 84 per cent, beating the system's launch-week sales by almost 7,000 units - was driven by Monster Hunter Tri G, which has sold 471,055 since its release on December 10.
It means 3DS has now sold more than three million units in Japan since launch, its life-to-date sales totalling 3.23 million, according to Media Create data passed along by Andriasang.

But Nintendo icon to pass on more responsibility to younger designers
Shigeru Miyamoto will not be leaving his position at Nintendo or retiring from the console giant.
Miyamoto said that his previous interview last week, in which he said he would be returning to grass-roots development, had been mistranslated.
"Nothing has changed, and nothing will be changed in the near future as to my role inside of the company," he told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Miyamoto will continue overseeing development of Nintendo titles, but admitted he would like to see younger designers take on more responsibility and would delegate accordingly.
He stated however that despite not leaving the console giant, he still wanted to develop new games, hinting at a new ip created with a small team.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword's motion control scheme is here to stay, series boss Eiji Aonuma has said.Despite initial misgivings about requiring players to use the Wii Remote's MotionPlus attachment, Aonuma now believes buttons are a thing of the past for the Zelda series."I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now", Aonuma revealed in a newONM interview (via Kotaku). "So I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too."Nintendo demonstrated a Zelda "experience" for the Wii U during its unveiling at E3 this year. The Wii U's tablet controller was used as a touch-screen inventory. Will players be asked to use a Wii Remote Plus and tablet controller together? Or will the inevitable Wii U incarnation include better usage of the tablet, too?Zelda games for handheld systems will presumably keep the series' classic button controls. After this year's re-release of Ocarina of Time, the next 3DS Zelda game will be all-new, Aonuma recently said.

The most recent 3DS system update provides free access to all of Boingo's North American airport Wi-Fi hotspots, which means layovers just got another dimension of fun. Boingo operates the Wi-Fi in 42 airports in North America and suggested that free connection for the 3DS would keep bratty kids quiet while waiting for their flights -- at least, that's what we got out of this quote from Boingo: "With the holiday season approaching, more leisure travelers and families with children will fill our airports and have access to our hotspots."
Read between the lines, kiddos.

Somehow you've ended up with a prepaid points card for your Wii, DSi, or 3DS. If you're looking to fill up your Wii with the best stuff from this year, you might be surprised to find out that there was stuff this year! The Wii Virtual Console actually looks populated, for example, when you look at the whole year's output at once. And we were surprised to see how well the 3DS Virtual Console has built up since its launch.
Join us after the break to find the most entertaining ways to spend your Nintendo points on your platform of choice. ?
WiiWare
MotoHeroz ($15)
A side-scrolling stunt racer in the vein of developer RedLynx's Trials series; but with cartoon physics in cartoon landscapes. Bounce giant trucks around on looping, swirling levels, knocking your friends around as you do so.
Bit.Trip Flux ($8)
If you don't have any Bit. Trip games yet, you might be better off buying one of the compilations on Wii or 3DS. But if you just want to download one for whatever reason, Flux ended the series this year with a return to Beat's block-paddling form.
escapeVektor: Chapter 1 ($5)
A Qix-style surround game with a beautiful, kind of Tron-ny graphics appropriate for its "inside the Wii CPU" setting.
Flight Control ($5)
It lacks the direct touch controls of the better-known iOS version, but the WiiWare version uses the Wiimote pointer as your method of guiding a bunch of planes to safe landings.
Bomberman Hero ($10)
Perhaps more interesting as a novelty than anything else: this Nintendo 64 Bomberman adventure was heavily focused on single-player ... by which we mean it didn't have multiplayer. What?
Super Bonk ($8)
The former Turbografx-16 mascot migrates to the SNES, in ... a really weird game, with growing and shrinking abilities, monster transformations, shooting sequences, and, of course, tons of things to hit with your giant head.
Mega Man X ($8)
It's the first game in the Mega Man spinoff series, and the first Mega Man game on SNES. It's also one of the best Mega Man games of any series.
Chrono Trigger ($8)
One of the absolute classic Squaresoft RPGs, along with ...
Final Fantasy III ($8)
Beautiful for its time, mechanically interesting, and with a story that people still fondly remember. If you want to give someone a crash course in the "golden age" of JRPGs, you could hardly do better than this.
Super Adventure Island and Super Adventure Island II ($8 each)
Hudson's grass-skirted, skateboarding Master Higgins comes to the SNES in the best-looking games in the series. The first one is strictly vintage Adventure Island, with none of the dinosaur companions or map screens from later NES games. Super Adventure Island II is kind of an RPG, with equippable armor and other items, and multiple islands that you can travel on a larger quest.
Super Earth Defense Force ($8)
One of the classic shooters from the SNES launch, in which you protect the earth from aliens by, you know, shooting at stuff constantly.
Faxanadu ($5)
Reminiscent of Zelda II, this is an epic action-RPG set on an enormous, dying World Tree.
Mega Man 5 ($5)
You might want to get just about any other NES Mega Man before this one, but it's still better than most non-Mega Man games.
Black Tiger ($8)
The more you play, the more exciting it gets! At least that's what the flyer for this 1987 arcade game says. It's a side-view, multi-scrolling action game that builds on Ghosts 'n Goblins.
DSiWare
Antipole ($5)
The level designs in this side-scroller force you to get creative with your ability to flip gravity early on. You'll be flipping back and forth to float in the middle of the screen, navigating past toxic substances that also react to your gravity powers, and dealing with spikes on every side of every surface.
Mighty Milky Way ($8)
More fun with gravity! Developer WayForward brings a rather bizarre game about jumping from tiny planet to tiny planet, using their gravitational fields to sling yourself from one to the next. You can also create and destroy planets to aid in movement. And you'll need to be adept to avoid the eye-lasers of a robotic T-rex.
Go! Go! Kokopolo ($8)
Here's an experience you won't get anywhere else. Vibrant sprites present the story of a cat scratching enemies into uncontrollable frenzies, and then leading them into carnivorous plants. That ... unique narrative provides the motivation for a series of top-down maze chases.
Plants vs. Zombies ($8)
It's not a game platform without Plants vs. Zombies!
Surfacer+ ($5)
A simple game in which you hold the stylus on a spot to grow big flowers. You must fill up the screen with as few big flowers as you can manage, while avoiding bouncing obstacles.
3DS eShop
Donkey Kong ($4)
If you didn't play this Game Boy platformer back in 1994, you owe it to yourself to go back and check it out. It takes the single-screen, enclosed levels of the original Donkey Kong, and expands that gameplay into a series mechanically novel jumping, climbing, and dodging exercises, with brilliant level designs and tricky, interesting mechanics.
Metroid II: Return of Samus ($4)
Samus Aran explores a spooky, cavernous planet teeming with monstrous, mutant Metroids. It nicely sets up the story of Super Metroid, if, uh, you haven't played Super Metroid yet.
Balloon Kid ($3)
The Game Boy sequel to Balloon Fight, the "Ambassador" game that made paying $80 too much for a 3DS totally worth it.
Gargoyle's Quest ($4)
A spinoff of Ghosts 'n Goblins starring the frustrating red devil Firebrand -- this time an action RPG set in a world of monsters.
Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins ($4)
This Game Boy game introduces the funhouse-mirror version of Mario, a guy called "Wario" who stuck around. It also introduces a carrot powerup that gives you rabbit ears. That didn't take on quite as much of a life.
Mega Man ($4)
We've been waiting for another opportunity to buy the portable Mega Man games since the GBA compilation was canceled. The 3DS Virtual Console provides just such a chance -- at least for the first one.
Mario's Picross ($4)
You probably know Picross -- the puzzle game about following numerical guides to fill in squares on a grid and reveal pictures. But if you don't know it, prepare for a few hours of frustration, followed by a lifetime of enjoyment and more frustration.
Pushmo ($7)
There are shades of Catherine in Intelligent Systems' cute puzzler: you push and pull blocks to make surfaces to climb. Only, in this game, the blocks form the pixelated shapes of objects, and you can create your own levels, to share with QR codes. And there's no meditation on adultery.
Freakyforms: Your Creations, Alive! ($7)
Creation tools are also involved here, as you create your own weird hero, and then drag it around a brightly-colored environment, meeting new "Formees" and taking on quests for them.
3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure ($7)
Kirby's NES game, pretty much exactly as it appeared back then ... except with 3D!
3D Classics: Excitebike ($6)
Sorry if you didn't sign into the eShop in time to get this for free. But it's still totally worth checking out, for a dramatic 3D effect that nothing else attempts, actually changing the whole perspective of the game with the movement of the 3D slider. Also, a save feature!

Fceux SVN r2371 is released. FCEUX is a cross platform, NTSC and PAL Famicom/NES emulator that is an evolution of the original FCE Ultra emulator. Over time FCE Ultra had separated into many separate branches. The concept behind FCEUX is to merge elements from FCE Ultra, FCEU rerecording, FCEUXD, FCEUXDSP, and FCEU-mm into a single branch of FCEU. As the X implies, it is an all-encompassing FCEU emulator that gives the best of all worlds for the general player, the ROM-hacking community, and the Tool-Assisted Speedrun Community.
Fceux SVN changelog:
r2371
* loading TAS Editor projects by drag-n-drop

Glitch64 SVN r273 is released. GlideHQ is a realtime texture enhancer library with hi-resolution texture pack support for Glide64. Glitch64 is the recommended Glide3x wrapper for Glide64, the Glide video plugin for N64 emulators. It currently supports S3TC texture compression, anisotropic filtering, widescreen resolutions and simulates almost all the Glide3x hardware capabilities used by the plugin, included texture buffer capability (needed for render to texture). It is coded using the OpenGL API and uses GLSL shaders.
Traditional and non-traditional techniques have been used to achieve speed and high image quality even on a 9 year old 3Dfx Voodoo2. Although the 3Dfx Glide3x texture format naming conventions are used, the library can be expanded for generic use. The library supports 6 enhancers and 6 image filters. FXT1 and S3TC texture compression are supported.
Glitch64 SVN changelog:
r273
Fix combiner for projectiles in KI Gold, issue #300. Looks better, but still incorrect.

GameBoy Online (2011/12/10) is released. GameBoy Online is a Game Boy and GameBoy Color emulator written in Javascript. It strives to be efficient and try to have a perfect compatibility. Currently the execution speed is not optimal even on browsers. For example on Chrome, which is nevertheless deemed to run Javascript faster on a PC running Windows 7 64-bit version with a double heart 2 CPUs at 2.2 GHz, games run at normal speed but almost skipping some frames.
The sound production is still experimental and rather poor quality. The video portion is by HTML5 or by creating images with BMP string URI. State backups are implemented using the object window.localStorage and are serialized / deserialized JSON. Ditto for backup SRAM.
