The Gamecube loader for running games from an SD Gecko or one HDD (connected using an adapter EXI - FDI) has been updated by emu_kidid , which continues to improve over the versions. Since the last version officially proposed in the form of binary (R62), much progress has been made to fix various bugs (of Zelda Wind Waker for example) but also add some nice features, the latest being a patch not having to keep a game in the drive and another patch to better support 480p wii settled. The interface has also undergone a facelift in the spring. The curious can visit the official repository to see any changes made. Update: Version R94 pointed the tip of his nose just one day later, and replaces the previous version. This update improves last minute the "No DVD".
Summary of the homebrew
and foremost, it is useful to clarify some important things to reframe the situation - this is a homebrew native GAMECUBE by definition backward compatible with the Wii with some modifications (installation of cMios wiigator 0.2 and using Wii Gamecube Homebrew Launcher 0.2.3 to run from Swiss-GC Homebrew Channel). Keep in mind that it was designed at first for the Gamecube. - GC as an application, no device is accessible only Wii (SD slot, USB ports, etc). It is therefore necessary to use different "accessories" to enjoy: SDGecko and / or IDE / EXI (both can be purchased or manufactured home) Going back in the thick of things, Swisscom GC is actually the successor SD-Boot (almost entirely rewritten), a loader can launch games in ISO format GC / CMG from an SD card or HDD ** * via the appropriate adapter (to plug in a memory card port GC). Here Currently supported features: - Loading GC executable (. dol) from the following media: ** SD / SDHC ** / * DVD-R/HDD - Load game (s) ISO / GCM for the following media: hard original / ** SD / SDHC ** / * DVD-R/HDD - Support multi-game compilations on DVD-R (Cobra / GCOS) - Supports multi-disc games from the following media: original disc / SD ** / ** SDHC / DVD-R/HDD * - Copy of original disc to SD ** / ** SDHC / HDD * - Region Free mode / Video mode forced 480p (WIP) - cheat engine for all games (making ** updated via SD / SDHC ** / * HDD) Future Features (in order of priority): - Memory Card Manager - Support for USBGecko / SE - Dumpeur IPL / SRAM / DVD-ROM / RAM - System IPL * features require a HDD -IDE adapter EXI or HDD adapter home . ** SD features require SDGecko or an SD adapter home . The main advantage of this project (in addition to his exploit to launch games from an SD device HDD or on GC), for the budding handyman, is the possibility of self-assembly of the entire necessary modifications, as well as the IDE-SDGecko EXI. Most couch potatoes still have the option to buy the modules already installed. The whole is of course open source and you can find your happiness (binaries / sources) on the project's official GoogleCode. Please note that a number of homebrew already support the IDE module EXI-see list attached link: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/vie...php?f=23&t=331 WiiPower offers a very nice homebrew to run swiss-GC from HBC (Wii): http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/vie....php?f=6&t=371

On the occasion of the release of V7 Final cIOS d2x (since December 6 already), and as the development of the installer dragbe seems stalled, GX-Mod now offers a version unofficially the d2x cIOS Installer 3.1. It now includes the cIOS d2x V7 Final and was translated into French by me, for anglophobes. The modified sources are of course included in the archive to comply with the license. Note that this version does not differ from the pack "Installer 3.1 + d2x V7", except that the d2x V7 files have been included directly in the source (more own) and the whole interface has been translated into French. Being an unofficial version, any bug or error in translation should not be reported to the original author (who need not be bothered with an unofficial version), but directly to me. d2x cIOS Installer 3.1 Fr (Unofficial) Official site: http://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios-installer/

The Nintendo Direct conference was ... light on news. However, Nintendo did announce that the first downloadable demos for retail 3DS games are hitting the Japanese eShop today! The selection includes Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy,Resident Evil: Revelations, Rhythm Thief, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.
All of those games are expected to launch in the US around the same time as their Japanese releases, save Theatrhythm, which hasn't been announced stateside. We're just going to be optimistic and believe demos are on the way soon. Of course, we were optimistic about the amount of news we thought would come out of this thing, as well, and that didn't get us very far.

Surprise! The 3DS eShop is getting not-terrible! The original downloadable games are starting to stack up (Pushmo, Mighty Switch Force), and the Virtual Console is home to a lot of interesting games -- like, for example, the Game Boy version of Bionic Commando, coming out December 29 in both North America and Europe. We aren't sure how it's able to make it to the shop when the NES Bionic Commando never could.
That's the same day North America gets VVVVVV. See what we mean about the eShop no longer being a terrible destination for games?

Your 3DS doesn't have to be naked while playing Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D. Accessory company Hori is releasing a suite of themed 3DS accessories, with which you can outfit your handheld to prepare it for the rigors of CQC.
The Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D Accessory Set includes an olive drab pouch for the system and games, a set of camo stickers for the interior of the system, a "Protect Cover" for the exterior featuring Yoji Shinkawa's character art, and a stylus on a lanyard.
In Japan, the Accessory Set will retail for ¥2,981, out alongside the game on March 8. Hori accessories are often released stateside, to retailers like Amazon as well as Hori's own store, so it's quite likely you'll be able to do some on-site procurement of your own accessories.

Wii's swan-song, its successor's unveiling and the fall and rise of 3DS.
Wii and Wii U
It was a quiet year for the Wii, with headlines naturally focused on its rumoured successor. In February, THQ CEO Brian Farrell dropped a heavy hint that new Nintendo hardware was waiting in the wings, telling investors he did not expect new systems from Microsoft or Sony but adding: "It's difficult on Nintendo - we'll let them announce their new hardware."
Soon after, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that sales of seven million units a year in North America alone proved there was no need for a Wii 2, saying: "We'll make decisions about a successor system at the time when software developers cannot offer surprises [on Wii]."
Yet a sparse Wii release schedule told a markedly different tale. The only Wii game to make headlines in the early part of the year was We Dare, a racy party game from Ubisoft that was actually far tamer than its debut trailer implied. European ratings board PEGI defended the 12 rating it gave the game after famously reasonable UK tabloid The Sun said the game "promotes orgies and lesbian sex to kids as young as 12." Ubisoft eventually cancelled We Dare the day before it was due to launch in Europe, but had a good year elsewhere: Just Dance 2 sold a million units in the UK alone, and was later named the biggest thirdparty Wii game of all time with 14 million worldwide sales.
In mid-April sources told us that the Wii successor was very much real, with Nintendo to unveil the system at E3 in June with a view to a late 2012 release. Shigeru Miyamoto confessed the following week that new hardware was on the way, and by the end of the month Nintendo had confirmed its new console would be unveiled and playable at E3, and launch in 2012.
The official unveiling of Wii U and its divisive tablet controller came during Nintendo's E3 press conference, which our report described as hitting "a sweetspot in the Venn diagram of self-celebration, wry deference, nerdish awkwardness, earnest confidence and creative vigour." Satoru Iwata hailed the system as "a new structure for home entertainment … [that] will let everyone see games in a different way." It certainly let investors see Nintendo in a different way: the company's share price hit a five-year low the following day, and fell a further 5.2 per cent the day after. Iwata said it was all "very strange." He would soon get used to it, with the company taking a battering from investors and analysts as 3DS struggled, and the sickness spread: Square Enix's shares fell ten per cent after it announced Dragon Quest X would be headed to Wii U as well as its predecessor.
Little has been seen of the system since, with Nintendo apparently seeking to address one of the biggest criticisms of Wii U: that it only supports a single tablet controller. A report last month claimed the company was working on multiple controller support, as well as RAM and processor speed. The final version of the console will be shown off at E3 in June.
Nintendo announced a revision of the ageing Wii hardware, designed to sit horizontally instead of vertically, available at a lower price with Wii Sports and Wii Party but no backwards compatibility with GameCube games. That price point no doubt played a part in strong sales of the system in the US - half a million were sold on Black Friday alone - but the biggest factor in Wii's sustained success was The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
It was 2011's sole recipient of an Edge ten, our review hailing the fact that "this ultimate tale of hero-making should see Nintendo's hardware become the console it was always meant to be." It sold 195,000 copies on its debut in Japan, and 535,000 in the US in a little over a week. Nintendo will need to ensure Wii U doesn't have to wait as long for its own Skyward Sword if the console is to succeed, with Microsoft and Sony doubtless at work on next-generation hardware of their own.

Here's a christmas little present for you, in case you pulled your good ol' Virtual Boy out of the closet to play through Virtual Boy Wario Land again over the holidays. A complete graphical game guide, for which I combined level maps made by Trebor Almasy with the walkthrough found in Brian Hodges' GameFAQ, both used with kind permission. Click here for the guide.

Today, I have released a translation patch for the NES adventure game Takeshi’s Challenge. Consider it a gift from Scrooge. :P
You’ve probably heard about this already. It’s pretty infamous for its poor quality. Or maybe the whole game was just a comedian playing a prank on everyone.
I was planning to release it on the 10th to celebrate its 25th anniversary, but replacing the graphics proved more time consuming than I thought. So instead you get to share the experience Japanese kids must’ve felt 25 years ago when they got this as a holiday gift.

More 3DS sales figures coming right at you: According to data from publisher Enterbrain, the 3DS has now exceeded sales of four million units in Japan (asexpected), wrapping up the week leading into Christmas with 510,629 systems sold. That's an increase of 39 percent over the last week, which also saw the 3DS outselling the newer and more expensive PlayStation Vita by about 13 percent.
Mario achieved an accompanying milestone (according to Famitsu), hawking a million copies each of Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. The portly plumber's latest adventures are reportedly the first 3DS games to sell over 1 million copies in Japan. The most recent third-party game to come close to that target is likely Monster Hunter Tri-G, which has already shipped a million copies.

According to a recent Nikkei report, Nintendo will introduce paid downloadable content to its games for the first time in recorded human history next March, with the release of Fire Emblem for the 3DS. The price of this expansion will apparently be "several hundred yen," and that it -- and other DLC on the company's platforms -- won't make it any easier for players to make their way through Nintendo's games, which probably weren't very difficult to begin with.
Nikkei also reported that the Wii U will also play home to downloadable add-ons, but said nothing about the still-to-come library of the Wii, which -- well, in order to release expansions for something, you first need something to expand upon.

Nintendo has begun rolling out updates for the 10 NES games given free to 3DS Ambassadors earlier this year.
Nintendo had previously promised that the 10 NES games offered in the program will later be upgraded with "additional features" once the games are made available for purchase by the general public.According to reports, The Legend of Zelda has just been updated in Japan to support the creation and loading of restore points - as can be done with currently-released Game Boy Virtual Console titles.
The update has also added a digital manual and a nicer menu icon for the game. Similar updates are expected for the other nine NES games in due course, although there's no ETA on that or when any updates will be issued outside of Japan.
It's worth looking forward to though, considering Nintendo promised some of the NES games will receive added "multiplayer simultaneous play" functionality.
Nintendo set up the 3DS Ambassador program to compensate early 3DS owners after it announced that it will slash almost a third off the console's price - less than six months after its launch. Pre-price-drop owners needed simply to log onto the eShop before August 12, 2011, to qualify.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is notorious for his ability to say very little with a whole lot of words, but he doesn't bother mincing words when it comes to his feelings on social gaming giant Zynga. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital blog, Fils-Aime answers a question regarding his thoughts on Zynga's recent IPO by saying, "What's the share price? It will be interesting when it breaks below $9." In case it isn't clear, that's the executive way of saying, "Your IPO ain't shit."
He continues by inferring that Zynga's creating the same titles over and over, presumably referring to the company's many "Ville" games, though he seems more than okay with his own company doing as much with its recent release of the seventh Mario Kart title.
As for the free-to-play business model, however, Fils-Aime is less pessimistic. While he says, "I would argue Facebook is a platform ... I wouldn't expect to see our franchises on other platforms [that aren't owned by Nintendo]," he admits that Nintendo will "certainly" be experimenting with "other forms of monetization." When we'll see that pricing experimentation remains to be seen, however, as Fils-Aime only reveals vaguely that said price "experimentation" is currently taking place across Nintendo's various internal studios.

Maximum Family Games has announced it will publish Myst 3D on the 3DS in 2012. Developed by Hoplite Research, Myst 3D promises to take the ancient PC point-and-click adventure into the third dimension and bring along the Rime Age, which was not included in the original PC release.
Hoplite was also behind the DS and PSP ports of Myst, so it seems likely thatMyst 3D is simply a port of the original Myst with added 3D effects – as opposed to a fully explorable, polygonal title akin to Real Myst.
Myst 3D is scheduled to be released on March 27, 2012.

In October, Satoru Iwata hosted a "Nintendo Direct" video, in which he introduced the pink 3DS, detailed the big firmware update, and gave release windows for some eShop releases. Iwata will host another video press conference on December 27 at noon JST, or 10PM EST on December 26, according to a new "event" set up on the publisher's Ustream site. This time, we suspect we'll learn release dates -- or windows -- for at least some of its big upcoming releases, like Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario Tennis, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, or Paper Mario.
Last time, the Japanese video was followed the next morning by a Nintendo of America version, hosted by NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime. The same will probably happen this time.

Terry Cavanagh's great platformer VVVVVV is heading to a 3DS near you as promised: The game has been set for release on the Nintendo eShop next week. Starting December 29, you'll be able to grab the game (published byNicalis, the company behind Cave Story and its various iterations) for a price of $7.99 on your 3DS, and take on the game's for yourself.
Or, if you've never played the title before, you could go try out the free Flash version, or play it on PC or Mac as you wish. It's a great and well-made experience for sure, but bring all of the patience you have. You'll need it.
