Nothing much to report, I am still on my "coding break" and focusing on my other hobbies that I have been neglecting during the past three years I have been working on DSx86. I do have some DSx86 -related news, though. Sverx, who already optimized my smooth screen scaling algorithms once before, came up with even faster method of handling this scaling. I will update the DSx86 screen scaling algorithm to use his latest invention in the next DSx86 version (when I get back to coding :-). Meanwhile you can read more details about his scaling method in his blog. Thanks again Sverx!

CaH4e3 updated his site with the following message:
- A couple of FDS Conversions has arrived recently, now I can put them in one batch and release the dumps. There were a lot more FDS conversions to find and dump to complete my FDS Conversions list, but these ones are good enough to obtain too. So sad, dumps of the FDS conversions are not so exciting, as carts itself, but they are hard to find just now. In any case, you always can play the original. But... All these dumps are supported by the latest FCEUmm, of course.
- Falsion (FDS Conversion, Whirlwind_Manu)(Unl)[!]. First, one of at least two versions of the FDS game "Falsion" popped out, Whirlwind Manu version has no Konami copyrights on the screen, and obviously there is no extra sound effects on the pirate cart. But it's still some kind of rare. Second known version of that game was made by Kaiser and has it's copyright on the screen.
- Green Beret (FDS Conversion, Whirlwind Manu)(Unl)[U][!]. Second one, less rare, can be found here in Russia too, but there is a lot more on Taiwan. Green Beret is a Whirlwind Manu conversion, and unlike the previous conversion, has all the Konami copyrights on the title screen. This version mostly the same as original version.
- Monty no Doki Doki Daisassou (FDS Conversion)(Unl)[U][!]. Third, mostly hard to find cart just now, but still possible to find from collectors (thanks jjaeheee!).
- Bubble Bobble (FDS Conversion, CHR-ROM version)(Unl)[U][!], ProWres (FDS Conversion, LE05 simplified)(Unl)[U][!]. And last two, dumped a longtime ago, but emulated only now. Bubble Bobble is totally different version from at least two other known revisions, which consist only of 128K PRG ROM and has VRAM on board. This one uses only 64K or PRG ROM and 32K or CHR ROM instead of RAM. There is no other visible differences between these and other revisions thought. ProWres is a simplified version of the other known FDS Conversion of that game, this one include only 32K or PRG ROM (instead of 32K + 2K in original version), and mapper seems simplier.

Digger was released on PC in 1983 by Windmill software. Andrew Jenner loved it so much that he created an open source version called Digger Remastered. The object of the game is to get as many points as possible by eating all the emeralds and bags of gold. The Hobbins and Nobbins don't seem to like you doing this and they will try to stop you. You can terminate them by squishing with the gold bags, eating them after you get the magical cherry powerup or shooting them with your slow to recharge fireball.
2012-09-02 v0.2 Bonus mode displays correctly
Two player support (start the game with controller 2 to 4)

But one day the tournament will be over. And we'll wake up the next day stone-cold sober, suddenly aware that where our girlfriends and cats once stood, now lie piles upon piles of useless Jack Butland and Aleksandr Kerzhakov duplicate stickers. If only there was a way to make practical use of them. For example, by summoning a real-life Kerzhakov to cook us bacon and eggs, or by magicking up a Lars Bender clone to nip the shop on a Toffee Crisp run.In other words, if only life were more like Paper Mario: Sticker Star. In this fourth instalment in the Paper Mario series you see, stickers are the most magical, wonderful thing you could possibly own, and they're everywhere.
They're plastered on trees, hidden behind bushes, parped out by defeated enemies - they're all over the shop. Some can even be found taping parts of the scenery to the ground. Give 'em a yank and - volia! - papercraft staircases, bridges and other features unfold before your eyes.

Jason Rohrer's virtual board game Diamond Trust of London was the first retail DS game to be crowdfunded via Kickstarter, and now it's followed up that achievement by being the first DS game to be available outside of Kickstarter after a successful drive. In other words, you can just buy a copy now.
Rohrer is selling Diamond Trust directly from his website for $30. A counter on the site shows that there are around 4,500 copies left as of writing, which doesn't seem like very many copies at all. While missing out would teach you a lesson about scarce resources, much like we're sure the game would, it seems like a less fun way to learn.

Before we delve into what we want from future entries in the Metroid series, let's take a moment to consider what we think might happen, based on previous games, and good old-fashioned rampant speculation.
The two Wii titles offer a lot of clues, if not to the story - future Metroids will almost certainly involve Space Pirates and phazon - but to the thinking behind recent changes, which will likely continue into development of the next game. While the first two Metroid Primes toyed with plenty of new ideas - the second more so, introducing a Zelda-style dark world into the equation - Corruption was the first to challenge one of the fundamental concepts of the series: that Samus always acts alone.
Quite a lot of the early game was spent in the company of fellow bounty hunters, or space marines who would feel more at home in Halo. If the previous games evoked the tense, scary Alien, then Metroid Prime 3 was more like Star Wars: an epic space opera that encompassed multiple planets, and had a bigger vein of narrative running through it.
Other M famously featured an even greater focus on story, piling ever more characters onto the set and giving each of them much, much more to say. As a sequel to the lonely platforming of Super Metroid it was almost blasphemous, delving into Samus' past and personality in ways that were disappointing to a lot of fans.

Future Publishing's independent Nintendo-focused magazine Nintendo Gamer printed its final issue today.
Nintendo Gamer will continue to run its website but the magazine will cease to exist.
The magazine's editor Nick Ellis wrote a farewell note in the final issue stating that the move "draws the curtain on 20 years of independent Nintendo mags from Future Publishing".
Future Publishing's independent Nintendo magazines began in 1992 with the launch of Super-Play. It continued to publish Nintendo magazines including N64 Magazine, NGC and NGamer before rebranding to Nintendo Gamer.
"After careful consideration we've taken the decision to close Nintendo Gamer magazine. However, with Future's ongoing strategy to drive digital growth across its international, digitally-focussed brand business, the website, Nintendo-Gamer.net will continue as excitement builds ahead of Nitnendo's Wii U launch," said Nintendo Gamer's publisher Lee Nutter.
Online editor Chris Scullion added: "There will always be a place for Nintendo Gamer – it's just in a different medium now. Over the next few months we'll be sharing the best features and issues from the Nintendo Gamer vaults, dating all the way back through the magazine's 20-year history.
"On behalf of everyone who's ever written a word, designed a page, checked some text, written a caption or reviewed a game for Nintendo Gamer, thank you so much for reading the magazine. Please do buy the final issue when it's released on September 6th, and we hope you'll continue to stick around the website as it continued to evolve".
Nintendo Gamer launched in 2006 and retained an average circulation of 7,745 in 2011. Future will continue to publish Official Nintendo Magazine.

Pokémon developer Game Freak is launching a new game, Rhythm Hunter: Harmo Knight, on the Japanese 3DS eShop next Wednesday. The news came from this morning's Nintendo Direct broadcast, hosted by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata.
Harmo Knight is a rhythm action game featuring 2D side-scrolling levels and, yup, some Pokémon music. The levels are set to a variety of tunes, and players have to run, jump, and attack in time with the music. The play looks similar to that of rhythm-based platformer Bit.Trip Runner.
No word on any international release, of course, but with the Pokémon tie-in it seems likely. Andriasang notes Nintendo will release an Iwata Asks for the game later today.

Nintendo announced an American localization of the latest Brain Training game, known as Onitore, on Twitter this afternoon – complete with release date. "Dr. Kawashima is back to train your brain! Brain Age: Concentration Training launches for Nintendo #3DS on 12/3," the publisher said.
This game purportedly helps to increase the capacity of your "working memory," by subjecting you to mental gymnastics like answering math problems on a delay – as in you have to wait until you see the next problem to write the solution to the last one.

BioWare and EA have chosen their companion for the development of Mass Effect 3's Wii U iteration: Australian developer Straight Right, who has previously been responsible only for Shift 2: Unleashed on iOS.
According to a comment on Facebook, Straight Right considers itself a "sister company" to larger Melbourne developer Tantalus Media. "Part of the same group and sharing the same building," the company explained.
Mass Effect 3 is a launch game for Wii U, whenever that is. For more information on the exclusive features Straight Right is implementing for BioWare, check out our hands-on preview.

A virtual version of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has taken the stage to demonstrate Friend Collection, an odd life simulation game featuring the company's Mii avatars.Friend Collection 3DS was first teased last year, although Nintendo has been silent on the title since.
It reappeared today during Japan's Nintendo Direct conference, accompanied by a new Japanese 2013 release date. Will it see release outside of Japan? It's unlikely. The original DS version of the game was left untouched by Nintendo's western localisation teams. The game is, admittedly, bonkers. Iwata's Mii was shown learning to hula dance, riding a roller coaster and singing in a rock band named the Game Boys.A new rhythm-platformer from Pokémon studio Game Freak was also shown. Named Rhythm Hunter: Harmo Knight, it offers a 3D side-scroller where the player must collect notes and blast through obstacles in time to music tracks.

Earlier today GAME listed The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. Given the critical and commercial success of Ocarina of Time 3D, it makes sense that the house of Mario would follow up by giving its sequel the same treatment.
We're all for it, but we think Nintendo should branch out its 3D-makeover initiative beyond Zelda games. In the feature below, CVG has picked out five Nintendo 64 games worthy of sprucing up for the Nintendo 3DS.
