Mario games, the good ones, anyway, are a gestalt, rising above their sundry components to become something truly special. Yoshi's New Island is no such beast. It is exactly the sum of its expertly-hewn parts, offering a platforming experience that is impressive in its intricacy, nonetheless feeling like the result of a well-researched equation. It plays all the right notes without ever quite making exquisite music, masterful but not special. Sure, you'll dig it, but will it be a game you look back on with wistful nostalgia ten years from now? Probably not.
Once again, the stork has proven that he is particularly ill-suited to transporting newborns, as Baby Mario and Baby Luigi go missing. Mario tumbles to earth on the new, egg-shaped island home of the multicolored Yoshis, and immediately starts crawling off in search of his diapered brother. The Yoshis, being the sweet-hearted souls they are (or perhaps simply reluctant to take up child rearing) decide to help the tyke locate his sibling, each Yoshi handing Mario off to the next as they navigate the treacherous and oddly-constructed terrain of the island. Seriously, who moves into a place littered with spike traps and falling platforms?
At least the property taxes are probably low.

Watch Dogs has been re-classified as an R18+ game in Australia, following its original MA15+ status in 2013.
Watch Dogs was originally classified by the Australian Classification Board in September last year, when the open-world title was rated MA15+.
Now, following the game's delay and leading up to its May release date, the board has reassessed the title with an R18+ rating and more aggressive content warnings.
Previously, the content warnings pointed to 'Strong Impact' for violence and themes, whereas now the warnings indicate 'Strong Impact' for themes, drug use and sex. In the board's first ruling the game's drug use was flagged as only 'mild impact'.
Meanwhile, Sex has also graduated from 'moderate' to 'strong', while the game now carries a 'High Impact' warning for violence.
Ubisoft confirmed this week that Watch Dogs will release May 27 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The Wii U version will follow.
The game was scheduled to launch alongside the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but was delayed " to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail".
Since the publisher's most recent promotional push, observers haveexpressed concern over the game's visual aspects.

Nintendo plans to show off its indie-friendly developer tools at GDC next week with a game demo using elements of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong franchise.
Wooden Sen'SeyThe demo was built on the Nintendo Web Framework, a user-friendly tool that allows for HTML5- and JavaScript-based games to run on Wii U.
Nintendo's booth at GDC will also feature nine Wii U titles made by independent developers with the Unity Engine. Authorized developers can use Unity Pro to make Wii U games for free, circumventing cost-prohibitive end-user licensing fees.
"We want to demonstrate to developers how easy it is for them to bring their creative ideas to Nintendo systems," Nintendo of America licensing VP Steve Singer said in a statement. "Nintendo offers wide-ranging support for indie developers, whether they want to use NWF, Unity or their own proprietary code."
Nintendo announced at least eleven indie games headed to 3DS and Wii U by the end of March. More than 1,000 independent developers have shown an interest in developing for Wii U, according to the firm.
Here's the official list of Wii U Unity titles coming to Nintendo's GDC booth:[h=3]Wii U Indies at GDC[/h]Armillo by Fuzzy Wuzzy Games: This rolling platforming game stars a space armadillo and includes spherical worlds, moon stages, a parallel universe and hidden 2D levels. His little blue critter friends and his brother help him fight the invasion of the robotic Darkbots.
Ballpoint Universe: Infinite by Arachnid Games: This adventure seems taken right out of a student's notebook. The entire game uses ballpoint pen drawings to create an imaginative world to explore.
Cubemen 2 by Nnooo: This fast-paced, action-packed, original 3D strategy game blends tower defense and real-time strategy genres into a fresh and exciting new experience that includes challenging strategy modes and customizable game settings.
Ittle Dew by Ludosity AB: Adventuress Ittle Dew and her sidekick, Tippsie, crash onto a strange island filled with loot and mysterious inhabitants. The game is loaded with adventure and features beautiful hand-drawn HD graphics.
Monkey Pirates by Henchmen Studio: Players control the boat of one of four captains and fight in multiple arenas based on four seaworthy environments. In those arenas players can find multiples bonuses to improve their weaponry or improve their ships while dealing with elements like icebergs, volcanoes, teleports, maelstroms and turrets.
Nihilumbra by BeautiFun Games: Born was created from the absolute nothingness: The Void. But somehow he separates himself from the black emptiness and appears in the world, where his long odyssey begins. He must learn how to use the colors around him to gain powerful abilities and transform the world.
Stick It to the Man by Zoink & Ripstone: Ray lives in a world where everything is made out of paper and stickers. An accident gives him awesome powers that let him read people's minds and change the world around him by folding it, tearing it, pulling stickers off and sticking them elsewhere.
Teslagrad by Rain Games: This 2D game about exploration features a hand drawn art style, an open, steampunk-inspired world to explore and a wordless, story-driven plot. Magnetic forces are a central theme of the game, which includes 20 unique tracks of music.
Wooden Sen'SeY by Neko Entertainment: This 3D action-platformer is set in a unique "Japan Steam Rock" universe filled with humor. Players follow Goro, a village chief, as he seeks revenge through a variety of levels. Using old-school game play, he will defeat his enemies using his axes to slice, dice, squash and grapple.

Last year during Philly Tech Week, Drexel Game Design Program co-founder Frank Lee made history by setting up a game of Pong played on a skyscraper in Philadelphia. This set a Guinness World Record for "Largest Architectural Video Game Display."This year Lee is going to expand upon his previous world record by setting up two games of Tetris, each portrayed on different sides of the same building. Sometimes the players will play against each other, while other times they'll join forces. The skyscraper in question is Brandywine Realty Trust's 437-foot tall Cira Centre, a 29-story tower equipped with 1500 programmable LEDs. Lee and company previously set the world record by displaying Pong with 460 LEDs along the building's exterior occupying over 59,800 square feet. This year he's upping it to over 100,000.

Nintendo has teamed up with McDonald's to include a range of Mario toys in Happy Meals from next week.Figurines featuring Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Toad and Yoshi will be available from 19th March until 29th April, Nintendo UK revealed today.Several of the toys will be interactive, including Mario's Hovering Coin, the Donkey Kong Barrel Projector, a Super Sound Mushroom and Mario's Warp Pipe Embosser. There's a healthy message behind the range, too - a "Run, Jump and Power-Up with Super Mario" promotion that will encourage children to be active as well as eat fries.Nintendo president Satoru Iwata recently announced a new push to be more open in licensing the company's characters in order to maximise their exposure. Take a look at the full range of toys below:

Pure Chess launches on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShops on 20th March for £4.99, Ripstone has announced. The game is notable because developer Voofoo has created a cross-platform play system which means users on Wii U, 3DS, iPad, iPhone, iPad and Android can play against each other. The game had been due out last year, but, according to Ripstone creative director Phil Gaskell, implementing cross-platform play proved tricky."Cross-platform play was a feature we all wanted to see in the game, but we underestimated the effort and technicalities involved with getting it right," he said."We think the delay has been worth it, and can't wait for players on all different devices to begin issuing challenges."

Club Nintendo is offering new rewards for loyal customers, namely the sort of rewards you put other items in. Those with 700 free coins can pick up a green Mario-themed accessory basket that measures just under a foot wide. Don't be fooled by the name, as Nintendo can't stop the rebels among us from putting anything other than accessories in the basket, like cats. Or other, smaller baskets.
Club Nintendo's two other new physical rewards are Animal Crossing-themed pouches. Available in both pink and blue, the pouches store handheld systems as large as the 3DS XL for 500 coins. We're eyeing up one of the pouches to store candy instead, because Nintendon't tell us what to do.
As for the loyalty program's featured eShop game downloads, players can pick between four games until April 6: Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters on 3DS (150 coins), Number Battle on 3DS (200 coins), Yoshi on Wii U (200 coins) andBonsai Barber on WiiWare (250 coins).

The folks behind the Man at Arms video series and makers of replica weaponry from games and films are at it again, this time with a Pokemon look-alike. The latest Man at Arms video shows the creation of the Pokemon Honedge, a new creature introduced in Pokemon X and Y that resembles a sword with a blue cloth attached to its hilt.
While the Man at Arms crew chopped together a fine approximation of the creature (complete with a rather sharp blade, as seen in the ending demonstration), they did leave out Honedge's ornate sheath. Not that we'll be the ones telling them about the minor detail. They make swords, after all, so we'd hate to critique them.
Led by master swordsmith Tony Swatton, Man at Arms' past work includes theenergy sword from the Halo series, the God of War series' Blade of Chaos as well as swords fromAssassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

The Return of the Jedi table pits The Rebellion against the Sith and its Death Star, the Darth Vader table has players embrace the dark side of the Force, and the Starfighter Assault table includes the X-wing, TIE Fighter, Millenium Falcon and Death Star 2.
Castlestorm's The Warrior Queen introduces a new Viking Elite troop class, and new weapons including Meteor Showers, Exploding Barrels, Stormbringers, Golem Hostages and Frozen Swordfish. Plus, it throws in 20 more levels and fresh achievements.

Fceux SVN r3068 is compiled. FCEUX is a cross platform, NTSC and PAL Famicom/NES emulator that is an evolution of the original FCE Ultra emulator. Over time FCE Ultra had separated into many separate branches. As the X implies, it is an all-encompassing FCEU emulator that gives the best of all worlds for the general player, the ROM-hacking community, and the Tool-Assisted Speedrun Community.

Mednafen v0.9.33.1 WIP is released. Mednafen is a multi-game-system emulator, for various platforms, including emulation of the following systems:Atari Lynx,Famicom,GameBoy (Color),GameBoy Advance,Neo Geo Pocket (Color), NES(both NTSC and PAL),PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 (CD) and SuperGrafx,PC-FX,WonderSwan (Color).
Mednafen v0.9.33.1 WIP Changelog:
March 8, 2014:
Fixed compiler errors when compiling without the debugger.
Fixed a couple of memory leaks.
PSX: Made better use of exceptions in the loading and initialization code paths(and avoid leaking memory if a part of the
process fails).
PSX: Protect against sound buffer overflow without causing a call to abort() so that using save states(when they're added)
or power toggling/resetting in the debugger while in step mode is safer.
PSX: Output of debug messages to stdout and stderr is now controlled via the "psx.dbg_level" setting, whose default
value of "0" disables almost all debug messages. Set the setting to "3" to obtain roughly the same output as previous
versions of Mednafen.
March 1, 2014:
Modified the simple interpolation pixel shader code to avoid using the GLSL 1.3 function "round()", for better compatibility
with some OpenGL implementations.

I've read the whole bootrom code and i have to admit, that big N has done a good job on hiding where and how it calls the AES code. Finding the AES implementation is easy, it's just before the ancast header check function and after the most useless function. Finding how the AES implementation is called, is a little bit hard, for two reasons: There are no cross references in the text segment; This means you will not see something like: 'bl AES_Decrypt'. There are no addresses saved in the data segment: 'AES_offset: .long AES_Decrypt'. So how to find it? You have to read the code, because the value is hardcoded and saved into a memory on an unknown address (like 0xE0000000); then a function will load that addresses to the count (CTR) register and jumps there.
