A passing breeze running through your finely coiffed hair, the magical sound shower of waves splashing against the coast, and your best girl (who's totally not hanging around with you just so she can ride in your Ferrari) in the passenger seat. That's what fans of classic racer OutRun can look forward to in 3D, after the game's logo appeared alongside Sega's line of existing 3DS games on the 3D Classics website.
Going by the announcement on 4Gamer there's no word on a release date or price for Japan, or whether or not it and the recently announced Fantasy Zoneare coming to the West. Sega did ferry over eight 3D classics last year, including Space Harrier, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Super Hang-On.

For those happy few hanging out in front of a Walgreens who also want to playSuper Mario 3D World, but just for a little while, good news: Rumors suggest Redbox will rent Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One games in April.
NeoGAF user Exile20 posted images of Redbox's Coming Soon page on Monday morning, which showed of a number of games for those consoles, includingSuper Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, LEGO City Undercover, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Thief, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and New Super Luigi U. Those listings were later spotted by Polygon, but have since been removed.
The vending machine movie and game rental business has a history of lagging behind other rental services in offering video games. Redbox didn't carry video games in most machines until 2011, and even now it still lists older games like 2008's Mario Kart Wii as Coming Soon. While Redbox hasn't officially confirmed that it will carry games for current consoles, these listings suggest it's improving its timing for game releases.

Nintendo says there are 50 Unity games in development for the Wii U, in addition to the 17 already submitted for release on the eShop in the next two months. Nintendo distributes the Wii U-specific version of Unity free with every Wii U development kit, and by the sounds of it, that's enticed plenty of developers to both the platform and the engine.
"Over the course of this show, we have 9 games on display," Nintendo of America Senior Manager of Marketing Damon Baker told Siliconera at GDC. "We have 17 that are currently in the pipeline, that have been submitted. So they will all be out within the next two months. And then, we have another 50 that are waiting in the wings, that are coming; so we've got a lot of Unity content on the way."
For all the Unity support Nintendo's home console is getting, the engine remains absent from its portable system. Nintendo is "definitely looking at" the possibility of Unity coming to 3DS, especially now the engine's Wii U build is finalized and pumping out games.
"Now, we can move on to other platforms and see how we can make those compatible," Baker said, "either with Unity or with additional middleware providers as well. So, 3DS is definitely an exciting platform for us, because we've got a huge install base, and we want to take advantage of that. We've got a lot of developers that want to take advantage of it. So, we're working towards that as well. But nothing to announce at this time."

You wanted to be the very best? (?) Here's the proof that you made it. Japan's annual Pokemon tournament kicked off this week, with the grand prize (aside from proving that it was worth all those hours of walking around in grass) of a limited edition, well there's only one, 3DS XL. With a Mega-Charizardsticker design on the front, and the victor's name engraved on the back, it's likely the ideal prize for whoever earns it -- and maybe even a nice little nest eggwaiting to mature.

UK researchers have found that playing a game of Tetris can help reduce cravings for people with addictions. The study, published in scientific journal Appetite, was designed to test Elaborated Intrusion Theory, which suggests that cravings are not just desire-based, but visual as well. The researchers therefore hypothesized that performing a visual-intensive task - in this case,Tetris - could reduce cravings.
A group of 119 college students were told to describe their cravings before playing a game of Tetris, at which point the game would either load or produce an error message claiming it could not be played. Students who successfully completed a game saw their cravings reduced by 24 percent more than those who did not.
While the researchers used Tetris in their analysis, Jackie Andrade, Plymouth University psychology professor and co-author of the study, told NBC that anything visually stimulating would work. "It also doesn't have to be mentally demanding, but if it is, it has a better chance to block the craving," she said.
In other words, even watching TV - supposing it's not The Food Channel - could potentially work to curb the munchies. However, the interactive nature of games makes them not only more demanding of your attention, but also more fun (we know, it's a shock), which in turn made participants of the study better adhere to using them as the researchers intended. It's not exactly an isolated event, either. We've seen games be used to help get senior women active, thuslowering their levels of urinary incontinence.
It's almost as though people enjoy video games or something. More research on this is clearly needed. Everyone, play your video games and report back here, ASAP.

Developers working on Wii U projects have counted the Unity engine among their options since last year, but support for Unity is still absent from the 3DS. Considering more than 42 million 3DS units have been sold worldwide, in comparison to the 5.86 million Wii U shipped to retailers as of January, Unity's absence from the 3DS is puzzling. Siliconera asked Nintendo's Senior Manager of Marketing Damon Baker about Unity's absence from the 3DS during GDC, learning that the company is considering implementing support for the handheld as well.
While Baker noted there was nothing to announce at this time concerning Unity support for the 3DS, he stated that Nintendo is "definitely looking at that." Baker explained that getting the Unity situation sorted out on the Wii U was Nintendo's priority, adding that it can now focus on expanding compatibility for other platforms, "either with Unity or with additional middleware providers as well."
Unity support was added to Sony's Vita in January, so doing the same with the 3DS would feel like a logical move if Nintendo wants to stay competitive as a host of developer-friendly platforms.

Swords & Soldiers 2 will take up arms on the Wii U eShop, just as itspredecessor did in the WiiWare section of its Wii Shop Channel in 2008. Ronimo Games' action strategy sequel sensibly adds fresh units and spells, which should help relations between the Viking and Demon races develop peacefully. Or dissolve into sidescrolling wars of brawn and wits. You know, whichever.
A third faction will be announced later on, but you can check out the first brawls between the Vikings and Demons above.

GDC 2014: A further 17 titles already approved and will be released in next two months
More than 50 games developed using the Unity engine are coming to Wii U, according to Nintendo.
Speaking to Siliconera at GDC, Nintendo of America's senior manager of marketing Damon Baker said the console firm was showing off nine games during the week, but that there were another 17 in the pipeline that had already been submitted and would be out in the next two months.
He then claimed another 50 titles were also coming to the platform, which if true should help soothe the console's third-party woes.
Nintendo has signed a deal with Unity that grants it the rights to distribute the development platform to its in-house, external and third-party licensee developers for Wii U.
The firm has also released the Nintendo Web Framework to support HTML5 game development in a further effort to attract developers. You can find more in-depth details on the framework here.

Nintendo has shown off a new Wii U version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong at GDC 2014.
But the unannounced game is just a tech demo, Nintendo told Siliconera, at least for the time being. The game was developed to show off the Nintendo Web Framework, a development environment that supports common standards such as HTML5, JavaScript and CSS to ease game development for Nintendo platforms. That said, other playable Nintendo titles which originally started life as tech demos have been turned into publicly released software - Steel Diver, for example, and New Super Mario Bros. Mii.Nintendo has so far released five titles in the puzzle-platformer Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, including entries for Game Boy Advance, DS and 3DS.

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf postmortem was among GDC 2014′s most popular talks yesterday.
Nintendo’s Katsuya Eguchi and Aya Kyugoku argued that Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s diverse team led to the game’s huge audience, during their GDC 2014 keynote. With 7.38 million copies sold to date, the game was so popular in Japan that Eguchi revealed that it was a struggle for his own daughter to find a copy, despite being the producer of the game.Kyugoku, the first female game designer at Nintendo EAD, describe the way that although women were “still in the minority” more and more were joining the department. “The percentages are evening out,” she said. “For the Animal Crossing: New Leaf team, almost half of those involved were women. When I started it was common to be the only woman on the team, but I have come to discover that when women are in a variety of roles you get a wider opinion and range of ideas; I have experienced how beneficial it is to have diversity on your team.”
The diversity of the team was leveraged by allowing the whole team to share ideas for animals, furniture and so on by providing sketches to the designer regardless of their personal role. “By doing this we opened ourselves up to a variety of tastes and things people like from a variety of male and female staffers from a variety of ages,” said Kyugoku. “This is not something we could achieve if only one person had been given the task.”
The core of the Animal Crossing series is communication, said Kyugoku, from the original GameCube title, where players would share a town and leave notes, up to New Leaf, where players share screenshots across social networks. She said that they hoped the title helped “harmonize relationships in the real world.”

22Cans founder says company has lost its way with Wii U back backs it to rebound
Peter Molyneux says Nintendo is one hardware release away from leading the way in games again.
Speaking to , the industry veteran and 22Cans founder said the company may have lost its way with the clunky Wii U, but it was probably already working a new system to reverse its fortunes.
He called Nintendo a "super smart" company and said, as many have in the past, it should never be underestimated.
"The problem with Nintendo is they did a fantastic job of finding these millions of new players with the Wii, and the Wii U kind of does that but also tries to bring in the existing gamers as well, so I think they may have lost their way a bit," he said.
"But they're super smart people, never underestimate Nintendo. They're probably one hardware release away from something that utterly convinces us that they know exactly what the future of games should be.
"I do find the Wii U big, I find it clunky, certainly it's not a sexy piece of hardware."

[Eduardo Zola] has been playing around with Arduinos, and ever since he started, he wanted to try making a game. Having fond memories of playing Tetris back on Windows 3.1, he decided to
He started with two 8×8 Neopixel Matrices due to their simplicity — not to mention the massive library of code available! To make it truly portable, he’s also included a 3.7v 4400mAh lithium ion battery which will keep him gaming for hours. He found a 5-way navigation switch on eBay which makes up the joystick. A small LED bar display tells you what level you’re on, and he’s even included a smaller speaker for music, and a vibrating motor for successfully completed lines in the game!
He borrowed the Tetris algorithm (and added some improvements) from the source codeby [Valentin Ivanov], who completed a similar project last fall. Stick around to see a demonstration video of it in action.

As we had to postpone issue 10 of Super Play due to quality issues, we jumped straight to issue 11 while we continue our search for a mint physical copy of issue 10. We begin our preview of this issue with a big interview with Nintendo of America Vice President: Peter Main. This isn't the only interview though as we also have one with Factor 5's Julian Eggebrecht about Super Turrican. After all of this goodness we look at The full story of the Nintendo CD. And we end this update with reviews for Mortal Kombat as well as Super Mario All-Stars.
