August 28th sees the release of To LOVEru, which follows he adventures of a high school boy and an alien girl named Lala who one days appears out in his home of nowhere buck naked.
In a total fan service mini-game, players must squirt condensed milk on a strawberry Lala is holding.

By the time I got done playing Star Wars: Clone Wars for the Nintendo Wii against an obnoxious, spikey-haired little German kid I was ready to cut out the middle man, knock him unconscious with the Wii remote and be done with it. Luckily my sense of decorum along with an overabundance of witnesses staid my hand, but I am telling you that little punk had it coming, spending the entire round making suggestive gestures with his controller and still winning.
Clone Wars is of course the new lightsaber fighting game for the Nintendo Wii, heading our way this holiday season. It follows the story and adapts the art style of the major motion picture and television series, with a plethora of animated Jedi ready to smack eachother with glowy sticks. It's what they do.

Let the joy be unconfined — Sam & Max: Season One will be (probably) heading to the Wii on November 4th.
The tried & trusted investigative journalism technique of 'lets look on the GameStop website and see when they will start selling it' (Woodward & Bernstein used the same method to crack the Watergate scandal wide open) points to a November 3rd release, meaning that the game should appear in people's actual hands the following day.
The game sees our detective heroes (one an anthropomorphic dog, the other a.. thing that looks a bit like a rabbit, only wrong) investigating a mysterious cult.

There is an alternate universe much like our own, but in this universe there is no war and cows produce ice-cold milkshakes. And in this universe, you'll also find the manifested counterparts to these wooden Wii peripheral concepts. Made of wood and featuring well-placed LED flare, the only thing better than the Wiimote and Nunchuk is this realistic Wiiglock:

Mad World, with its inky wellspring of monochrome gore, will likely give those opposed to virtual violence another round of ammunition, replacing Manhunt 2 as the industry whipping boy of choice. An unfair comparison, at least according to seasoned game journo Beth Dillon, who cites the controversy magnet's realistic take on violence as much more disturbing than Mad World's "contrasting and beautiful" approach.
There's no question that Mad World will stand out like a bludgeoned thumb among the Wii's more family-friendly library, but Dillon writes that where Platinum Games' upcoming action opus separates itself from Manhunt 2 is in its sense of style. The bigger issue, as she she sees it, is the effect motion-sensitive controls have on players playing violent games -- regardless if they're realistic or more over-the-top -- something we fully expect to have society's ills pinned on the game industry's already swollen posterior for years to come.

How nice you to join us. Do you have any idea what time it is? We were expecting you weeks ago! Well, no matter, go and take your seat with the rest of the Virtual Console class so we can begin. - Samurai Shodown 2 (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points): SNK's 1994 follow up to Samurai Shodown finally slices and dices its way onto the Virtual Console this week, bringing back most of the original's weapon-wielding cast, as well as several newcomers vying for the opportunity to skewer anything that moves with a pointy blade and sharp Engrish wit.
- Ys Book I & II (TurboGrafx 16 CD-ROM, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Nihon Falcom's enhanced remakes of the first two titles in the Ys saga finally levels up for the US Virtual Console. Offering roguelike-style combat and music we still find ourselves humming at the dinner table, this is a download not to be missed by role-playing fans with eyes for the classics.

Despite the disadvantage of not owning or having access to a Wii (see here), one of The Playground's very own, WiiPhlex (aka Googol Pl3x) has released his first version of Black Jack for Wii.
As of now it's text-based, but gfx will soon be implemented.
It uses the Wiimote for control.
Multiplayer will be implemented in the next version.
Please report any bugs found in this thread or direct to WiiPhlex (phlex.wii@gmail.com) or me (dejkirkby@theplayground-uk.com)
Enjoy!!!

Tona has updated the excellent Region Free App that lets you change the region of your WII:
AnyRegion Changer is an application which allows you to change various region and language settings on your Wii. It also allows you to install the System Menu of another region if you so desire.
A full description of this utility can be found in the README file.
AnyRegion Changer lets you change the following settings to any of the known values: setting.txt:
AREA setting: Used to determine which region the System Menu should be--normally the cause of full bricks.
GAME setting: Used to determine which region of Discs and channels (?) the console can play.
VIDEO setting: The Wii's video mode setting. Seems to be used universally.
SYSCONF:
IPL.LANG setting: Used to determine what language to use for various things. Sometimes contingent on AREA setting.
IPL.SADR country setting: Used to determine region information for the Weather/News channels and the Wii Shop channel.
AnyRegion Changer will also install System Menu 3.2 and the appropriate IOS for any of the three main regions.
The system menu installation feature should work universally. That is, regardless of what System Menu you have installed, you should be able to upgrade/downgrade to 3.2 for any region with this feature. This is accomplished via a temporary patched IOS which incorporates bushing's IOSDelete patch and Waninkoko's AddTicket version check patch. This IOS is only installed if necessary, and it is deleted immediately after use.
Precautions
This software comes with NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER. You may use this software at your own risk. I can take no responsibility for any damage caused by this application.
Please take note of the following:
If setting.txt is corrupted for any reason, it is entirely possible that your Wii will no longer boot.
Be careful not to change Video mode to a mode unsupported by your display.
If you change your Country code, you will be unable to receive any pending gifts you have in the Wii Shop Channel. (The shop will also warn you of this)
If you set the EULA to Read, you may be accessing Nintendo Network Services illegally. You should only change this setting to "read" if you have actually read and accepted the EULA for the Country code you have set.
Setting the AREA setting ("Console Area Setting") to a different region than your System Menu WILL cause a Semi-Brick! IF for some reason YOUR SYSTEM-CONFIGURED FLAG IS UNSET (via some installation, or a corrupted SYSCONF) your SYSTEM WILL become FULLY BRICKED. Your system will attempt to do the "First Time" configuration for an incorrect region, and will not be able to find the html content for the interface.
CHANGES MADE TO THE CONSOLE AREA SETTING SHOULD ALWAYS BE ACCOMPANIED BY A SYSTEM MENU CHANGE TO THE SAME REGION!
Changelog
1.1:
Minor fix to sysconf lib (Should fix some -24578 errors)
Changed Identification Routines
Added System Menu Region detection
Added intro screen/extra warnings

News from sweaterfish deluxe:
Okay, the new PAlib update is out now! It's considered stable and ready for everyone to use.
Choose your package and download it here:
Windows installer version
Zipped archive version
Read the ReadMePlease.txt file included with the downloads for detailed instructions on how to install everything, including the devkitARM toolchain and the optional external libs. Note that devkitARM r21 is still the recommended version of the toolchain for this release.
As always--but particularly with this release because the directory structure has been changed--it's strongly recommended that you back up and then delete *ALL* files from your previous PAlib installation, including examples, docs, etc., before updating.
Be aware also that the Makefile has been changed in this release, so you should copy the Makefile in \palib\template\ to all of your existing projects before re-compiling them.
Any other questions (or bug reports...*GASP*), just post them here.
---
Thanks to everyone who contributed bug reports, fixes, improvements and new features for this release. Looking at the ChangeLog, you'll see that it's a very large list of contributors that made this release possible and really it could have been much longer even. PAlib exists now and continues to be the best library for DS development because of the great contributions of its community. So many thanks to all of us!!
Extra special thanks to Scognito and Tom for all their work putting this update together, though, it wouldn't have happened without them. I only helped in the last stages, getting everything polished and ready for the release.

Aerthel posted a new game for the DS:
Hello there! This is actually my first post here but i've been reading the wiki and this forum for quite a time (and i have to say, you have a very nice nds homebrew community here). Some years ago, I began a project called 'Project Sheratan' but it was meant to produce a Flash game. To make a long story short, I didn't have the skills to create good Flash content, so I began searching for another platform to program on. When I learned about this community through a friend, the idea came back again.
This Project (though is not the same as before, i'm keeping the name) aims to create a Card Battle engine for RPG games on Nintendo DS, mimicking the Baten Kaitos series's card system. If you haven't played such games (shame on you! ), there are some pretty good YouTube videos like this one to show how the system works. Basically, you have cards that control your characters movements and actions, and played in certain order will resultin flashing and devastating attack combos.
With this first post I present the first milestone of the project. Currently it's only a tech demo, but it demonstrates:
* 'Typewriting' text over background
* Managed MOD music (using MikMod)
* Hand & Deck classes manage logical data about cards
* handAnimator class performs animations (there is only one right now, the discard animation)
The instructions on screen 1 are in Spanish, but they only talk about the controls:
* L/R changes the music
* Touch a card to display its name
* Touch a card and hold Down (or B for left-handed players) to discard it
More progresses will be announced here

News/release from Gaz
I have finally finsihed my first game for the Nintendo DS. The game is called 5 Dice and is very similar to Yahtzee, there are only a couple of changes from the original game (5 Dice) and (All Dice).
You are allowed three thows of the dice, after your first throw you can choose wheather or not to hold the dice. On your third and final throw you must choose a score on the card-sheet.
I would like to thank the folks from PaLib IRC for helping with some of the problems I encounter whilst writing the game!
You can download the game for the link below. I have only tested the software using my DS and R4 card. The original music on the title screen was composed by myself, and was one of the high's of the project as it didn't need debugging!
