Aerthel has updated his app for the DS:
Hello there! This is actually my first post here but i've been reading the wiki and this forum for quite a time (and i have to say, you have a very nice nds homebrew community here). Some years ago, I began a project called 'Project Sheratan' but it was meant to produce a Flash game. To make a long story short, I didn't have the skills to create good Flash content, so I began searching for another platform to program on. When I learned about this community through a friend, the idea came back again.
This Project (though is not the same as before, i'm keeping the name) aims to create a Card Battle engine for RPG games on Nintendo DS, mimicking the Baten Kaitos series's card system. If you haven't played such games (shame on you! ), there are some pretty good YouTube videos like this one to show how the system works. Basically, you have cards that control your characters movements and actions, and played in certain order will resultin flashing and devastating attack combos.
With this first post I present the first milestone of the project. Currently it's only a tech demo, but it demonstrates:
* 'Typewriting' text over background
* Managed MOD music (using MikMod)
* Hand & Deck classes manage logical data about cards
* handAnimator class performs animations (there is only one right now, the discard animation)
New Update! This new build (version 0.005) has the following new features
* Card are 3D Sprites now, allowing them to 'flip'
* The contextual help bar can be maximized/minimized by just selecting it with the stylus
* Deck now shuffles cards at start and every time you discard a card (so this time you get different almost always)
* At Hand Initialization, the cards flip in order, like they did in the game.
* When a card is discarded, the new card added to the hand from the right side is animated.
* New card added to show Numberless cards. This type of card won't be able to participate in a combo with the default set of card rules.
Also, I upgraded the project to use the recently new version of PAlib (v080823), I highly recommend it, it's very easy and has a lot of nice features. I think I'll test the new efs functions next =).

News/release from Sylus101:
Just so it's clear and the purpose of the app isn't in question (as I think it might be) this is intended to be a developers helper in designing/modifying sprites, particularly for use with PALib, but since there is a binary export now I'm gathering they could be used with any dev platform (not like there are many others...).
Here's v.92.9 a quick update compiled with the new community build. Hoping it helps tayete's problem

Tigro realizes the first version of "WALLPAPER, What About LLearning Polish lAnguage with Personal nativE speakeR?" Application that allows you to learn Polish.
Quote:
As you should know, "Knowledge is key to a success" - I, as a native speaker of Polish language, am going to give you interesting knowledge - I'll try to teach you Polish! Language, which was used for many hundred years, by great poets, kings, scientists and ordinary people.
Then, I decided to try to learn you this beautiful (but, not hide it, hard to learn) language. Think about these hot chicks around you, when you say "Czesc" instead of "Hi!" About these gangsta-wannabes trying to hide from you, when you say "Nie wkurzajcie mnie!" instead of "Do not piss me off." About these full of fear Persians escaping from the battleground when you scream "Przygotujcie sie na chwale!" to your soldiers instead of "Prepare for glory!". Think about all these profits!
This homebrew, as it's 0.1 version, you will learn basics of Polish - next will make you P0l15h-14ngu4g3-1337. Do not waste your time - begin your journey with Polish!

News/release from pypebros
After a year of development just across the board, I am pleased to announce the launch of the new version of my favorite graphics editor on DS: SEDS.
On the menu this version 0.3.2, a new editing mode 32x32 pixels and the ability to edit "horse" on two blocks with brand new mode "slider" that you appear with the button R. I also added a "palette fast" under the grid, more ergonomic and allows to reorganize the color palette or import via wifi colors of any image.
Not bad for improvements in memory management, files largest, can mix blocks 16x16 and 32x32, consistent with the level editor, and a library LGPL to use all that stuff in your programs.
Obviously, controls the previous version are still valid. There is always that 4 files directly manipulated by the publisher (loaded with START + L + (ABXY) and saved with START + R + (ABXY)), but a backup system automatic range the previous contents of the file / data / seds if you ever decide to crush it. You can also simply rewrite the edited file with START + R + R.
It is always a Beta version, meaning that the top screen is filled with message and debug company and I am holder of any feedback succeptible to improve the program. The publisher of animation (L + SELECT) is still rudimentary, and the editor of pallets (SELECT) also
PS: if you want to try the functions of automatic update (START + SELECT) or file transfer via WiFi, make sure you do not have files exec_stub.arm * of the previous version, which dragged on your SD card: the current version to download the application (QUIT button).

via Eurogamer
Nintendo has released a pair of WiiWare games and two more for the Virtual Console as part of the latest phase of the Hanabi Festival.
Sadly there's nothing to rival last week's amazing Super Mario RPG, but the WiiWare titles might be interesting.
The first is MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade, where up to three players tackle three separate puzzle games - based around circle, square and bar shapes - at the same time on the same screen, each trying to score a million points and each player's actions impacting the other puzzles.
MaBoShi also allows you to use Mii characters and save off replays, which you can distribute to friends via WiiConnect24. There's even a DS download version for taking The Three Shape Arcade on the road with you. MaBoShi costs 800 Wii Points (GBP 6 / EUR 8 approx).
The other WiiWare release is Critter Round-Up from Konami, where players have to mend fences to put animals back in their cages. Or as the press release puts it, "The critters have escaped and the barnyard is in chaos!"
Fence-mending is puzzle-based, it says, with over 50 levels set in areas like the Outback and Arctic, and various mini-games including Snowball Soccer, Chicken Catch, Fence Trap and potentially the odd one out, "Predator Rampage". All this and four-player competitive/co-operative multiplayer for 1000 Wii Points (GBP 7 / EUR 10 approx).
As for the Virtual Console additions, first is Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, which came out on the Famicom Disk System in 1988, and must not be misread as "Bio Miracle Bukkake Upa", lest the amazing story take on a terrifying new significance.
It's a Japanese platform game, see, in which a baby named Upa fights people by inflating them using his magic rattle, and can then bounce or ride around on their ballooned bodies.
"By accident, Upa smashes an urn that releases the spirit of Zai, an evil goat-like demon who proceeds to absorb the life force of the kingdom’s adults and kidnap every baby!" the press release explains. 600 Wii Points for this, or approximately GBP 4.20 / EUR 6. Bearded ex-pats in Asia should probably steer clear.
And finally there's a damp squib to go out on - the NES version of Dig Dug. "This original Famicom version was unavailable outside of Japan, until now, making this tunnel-digging classic a real monster-bashing gem for all Virtual Console fans!" the press release protests.
However, Dig Dug is available on about four billion other formats and we suspect you'll be hard-pressed to get excited about it or value for money out of it, especially with Hanabi inflation pushing the asking price up to 600 Wii Points (GBP 4.20 / EUR 6).
Look out for our thoughts on MaBoShi, Critter Round-Up, Bukkake thing and Dig Dug in a forthcoming WiiWare/Virtual Console Roundup.

Well, it looks like all that experience Nintendo has half-explaining Wii supply issues isn't going to waste -- the company just issued a statement regarding shortages of Wii Fit that sounds awfully familiar. Seriously, follow along with us here:
* Wii shortages, Nov. 14, 2007: "The demand for Wii hardware globally has been unprecedented and higher than Nintendo could ever have anticipated."
* Wii Fit shortages, Aug. 28, 2008: "Nintendo had a substantial supply nationwide for launch, though some stores saw spot shortages due to unprecedented demand for this unique product."
Here's a thought, guys: if there's "unprecedented" demand for the console, the demand for arguably the biggest accessory for that console since launch probably isn't unprecedented as well -- and your PR people shouldn't be so well-versed in making excuses like this.

Love your Wii but tiring of your standard control options? Looking for something that involves less arm swinging, feels a little bit more like an Xbox or PS3 experience, and loses that Classic Controller cable? Well the folks from Nyko are here for you, and they want to hold you all night long... and they brought the Wing. What's the Wing you ask? It's essentially a standard gamepad on highly concentrated crack-cocaine. The wireless controller features two analog sticks and a plethora of buttons (both up front and around the back), and can run for around 30 hours on a pair of AAA batteries. No word on price or release date, but if you notice a sudden crime wave and rash of unexplained fires, the Wing is probably out.

This is on the rumor-ier side, but Brian from Kotaku's man deep, deep in Japan has dropped him a tidbit about a new DS that might be in the works—one that bumps up screen sizes and finally replaces the top screen with a touch screen. The Nintendo DT, perhaps? Anyway, this certainly won't be hitting before Christmas, as Kotaku's source says "early next year" if true, which means a lot of DS-gifted kids' smiles may quickly turn to frowns in '09. It makes sense, given Nintendo's excitement-free showing at E3 this year, and how far touchscreen tech has come since the DS first hit, that something DS-related will be brewing for early 2009.

Canada may have a lot of real estate, but most of the people are gathered down in the Southern section of the country for fear of the vicious ice spiders that rampage through the Northern tundra. It's most likely because of this that such a large country is only now surpassing the one million Wii sold milestone, with just under 1,060,000 units sold as of the end of July, according to the NPD. Thus continues Nintendo's domination of the Great White North (and the world as a whole), with the PlayStation 3 selling 520,000 and Xbox 360 sales totaling 870,000 units despite a year head start on the competition.
There's still time to catch up, however. The NPD also reports that Canadian video game sales are 54% to nearly $920 million over last year, only a fraction of which can be directly attributed to the ice spiders' strange fascination with Wii Sports Tennis.

Can it be true? Now that the Wii is confirmed as the new home of violent hardcore gaming is the time right for a remake of good old Resi 2?
Japanese fan board 2ch has popped up a rumor concerning a possible remake of Biohazard 2 (aka Resident Evil 2 - but you knew that, right?) that will be exclusive to the Wii.
If the rumor is correct — and when has a random post on a Japanese fan site ever been wrong? — then we will be treated to a full Wii-ified remake, with some additional story elements. There will be a new 'swordsman' enemy (sword waggling minigame, anyone?) and 'Resident Evil 4 Viewpoints', which could mean anything - possibly 3rd-person over-the-shoulder stuff?
Its more than likely just bobbins, but even the slightest hint of RE2 is better than no RE2 at all.

A long time ago, well two years ago, Lucasarts announced they were working on a next generation Indiana Jones game. The project has fallen into obscurity aside for a few murmurs that it still exists. Here’s something interesting and probably related, PEGI just rated Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings as a Nintendo DS and PSP game. Huh? I don’t remember Lucasarts working on an Indiana Jones game for either of those systems, but considering the length of development Lucasarts may have decided to play it safe and release their Indiana Jones game on as many consoles as possible.

News/release from rck
Another day, another release :-) This one I developed much quicker than PONG extreme. Apparently, PAlib is really easy to use.
Essentially, PolyTouch is a very simple polygon manipulation gui. You get a polygon with up to 25 nodes and can drag the nodes with the stylus. You can also modify nodes with the d-pad, reduce the number of nodes down to 3 as well as scroll between the nodes with shoulder buttons and the Taito Paddle.
The idea of PolyTouch was to create a simple vector sprite editor for retro stuff like Tempest, Asteroids, BattleZone, and maybe some new ideas in that direction. Of course, the current version still needs the basics done, like saving and loading, and maybe frame-by-frame animation capabilities. But it's a start.
There are known bugs in this release, like for example some weird graphics-memory overwrites, when you reach certain borders of the touchpad by dragging. Not sure why, but will try to narrow them down eventually.
