Warner Bros has confirmed that the Wii U versions of Batman: Arkham Origins will retail for less than it does on other consoles.
The game has a US RRP of $60 on Xbox 360 and PS3 but will cost just $50 on Wii U.
Kotaku reports that the difference stems from the fact that the Nintendo SKU does not include the Splash Damage developed online multiplayer mode that can be found in other versions.
The single-player game is apparently the same across all versions, although of course the Wii U will feature a few extras owing to its touchscreened GamePad.

Nintendo is charging more for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD on its digital eShop than it did for other titles.
The game, an HD re-release of the 2003 GameCube title, is now available to pre-order for £49.99 on the Wii U download service.
Eurogamer points out that the price is £10 more than the £39.99 Nintendo charged for recent releases Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101.
Note though that both launch titles Nintendo land and Super Mario Bros U as well as Capcom’s Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate also cost £49.99 to download, so in some ways it’s nothing more than a return to form.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD is released in the UK this Friday (October 4th).

Just because Rayman Legends has already launched on most modern platforms doesn't mean you should rule out its eventual jump to the 3DS, Ubisoft executive Alain Corre told CVG last week.
"When you look at Rayman Legends you see it's a very big game with a lot of levels," Corre said. "It takes time to squeeze everything and downsize it into other formats." Corre's statements toward a 3DS version were more of a musing than a confirmation, however, as he added that Ubisoft can't "say anything for the moment, but we can't rule the format out."
The 3DS version of Rayman Origins launched six months after the game's initial launch on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Considering Legends just launched weeks ago, Ubisoft has plenty of time to follow suit with its hypothetical port to the 3DS.

Nintendo UK is planning a marketing effort with Tesco to boost customer awareness of the Wii U in an effort to address that "many people out there that don't know what this is," Nintendo UK's marketing director Shelly Pearce told MCV.
The marketing push will include a purchase of in-store space at Tesco, a five-page flier that will be sent to 300,000 Tesco customers that previously purchased a Wii, and coupons for unspecified games. MCV reports that Nintendo is also planning "major online activity" in addition to an "out-of-home promotional tour aimed at reaching 115,500 shoppers."
"There was a big misconception at launch about what Wii U is," Shelly said. "And one of the big messages is that this is a new console and a new controller."
The strategy reflects Iwata's statements in June concerning plans to regain the console's momentum "towards the end of this year." Once that momentum is obtained, Iwata said the company will then "try to establish successful third-party support for Nintendo platforms."

The recent release of the most powerful NES emulator has brought some new features useful for romhacking.
First, the built-in Hex Editor got a new feature called “Highlight Activity”, which helps monitoring memory changes (e.g. when you’re comparing two savestates, searching for a certain discrepancy).
Also, remember that annoying quirk of all known NES Debuggers, where you couldn’t scroll the disassembly up by whole instruction? That’s because 6502 instructions have variable len… ok, forget it.
More importantly, Symbolic Debugging finally works like it should have been working all these years since FCEUXDSP. Basically, you right-click any address and label it with a name. From this point FCEUX will substitute the address with the name everywhere: in disassembly listings, in trace logs, in Hex Editor window caption. This immensely helps reverse-engineering games.
Usually, when beginning a new hacking project, you stumble upon walls of incomprehensible assembly, and you start searching for certain memory addresses which could lead you to the necessary part of the code. Sometimes it’s enough to set a breakpoint onto a visual variable (like sprite coordinates/tiles map/etc), but more often you have to dig through the game, documenting data structures (in a text file) and figuring out the code control flow. Well, now you can forget Notepad and use Symbolic Debugging. Even when you barely understand why e.g. this certain code branches over there, right-click the address and call it something semi-definite, like “GotoHereIfVerticalCoord=1F“, then keep reading and doing the same to the following lines - soon you’ll notice you understand the situation better and better. Because you’re actually restoring a part of the source code of the game, without diving deeper than necessary, only looking at things relevant to your current needs.
For more info, see updated docs on FCEUX Debugger here.
Other debugging tools (Trace Logger, PPU Viewer, Code/Data Logger) were also improved in this new version. Read the whole changelog here.

Mighty No. 9 will head to 3DS and PlayStation Vita if its Kickstarter project reaches $3.5 million, a project update revealed today. Comcept has raised over $2.6 million in its crowdfunding campaign so far, which is scheduled to end on Tuesday, October 1. Meanwhile, the campaign's previously announced $3.3 million goal would bring the game to PS4 and Xbox One, and the game will already come to PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U thanks to reaching its $2.2 million goal.
Mighty No. 9 is a 2D side-scrolling platformer from Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune. The retro-inspired Mega Man spiritual successor includes a Boss Rush mode and will seek a balance between old-school difficulty and fair, modern gameplay. Comcept noted that, providing the $3.5 million stretch goal is met, Abstraction Games will be in charge of the Mighty No. 9 port to handheld systems, the same developer that brought Hotline Miami to PS3 and Vita.

Nintendo UK marketing director Shelly Pearce has said too many consumers are still not aware that Wii U is a new console.
In May, it emerged that Nintendo was sending messages to Wii ownersvia the WiiConnect24 service stressing that Wii U is a brand new console and "not just an upgrade".
And now Nintendo UK wants to drive that message home by rolling out a new marketing campaign, MCV reports. This will include booking in-store space at Tesco and sending a five page leaflet to 300,000 of the supermarket's customers who bought a Wii but haven't picked up another console.
Pearce said: "There was a big misconception at launch about what Wii U is. And one of the big messages is that this is a new console and a new controller. There are many people out there that don't know what this is."
"We haven't had the sales we wanted on Wii U hardware. We haven't had the software for most of this year. But we have some quite ambitious numbers, particularly with some of our biggest franchises coming.
"Our monthly tracking shows that Wii remains the No.1 console for brand awareness. This offers us a massive opportunity to convert Wii owners to Wii U."
Nintendo's most recent quarterly financial report showed that worldwideWii U sales came in at just 160,000 in the three months between April and July.

The Wii U version of Batman Arkham Origins will be $10 cheaper than the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
Kotaku reports having received confirmation from the game's publisher, Warner Bros., which has set the Wii U version's price at $49.99 - $10 less than the PS3 and Xbox 360 version, which will retain the conventional $59.99 price tag.
While the exact reason for the lowered price went undisclosed, it's worth noting that the Wii U version will lack the multiplayer mode present in other versions. The $10 discount perhaps serves as compensation for the omission.
Arkham Origins' multiplayer is being developed independently of the single-player by London-based studio Splash Damage, which has previously developed Enemy Territories: Quake Wars and, more recently, class-based shooter Brink.
Warner Bros. recently confirmed a Batman: Arkham Origins season pass. It will contain five of the game's upcoming DLC packs for a one off payment of £15.99, compared to £27.99 when bought individually.
Warner has confirmed a Batman Arkham Origins release date of October 25.

Nintendo UK has set itself ambitious targets in its bid to rescue the ailing Wii U.
The company admitted to MCV that too many people are unaware that Wii U is a new console, and will embark on a giant campaign to educate parents and kids – particularly Wii owners.
Nintendo has booked in-store space at Tesco, will send a five page leaflet to 300,000 Tesco customers that bought a Wii but have yet to buy another console, and even give away vouchers offering money-off games.
That is on top of TV ads for all its big franchises – including Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda, which will run ‘continuously from half-term to Christmas’. There will also be national press advertorials, major online activity, plus a huge out-of-home promotional tour aimed at reaching 115,500 shoppers.
Nintendo says its combined Wii U and 3DS marketing budget is ‘significantly higher’ than that of last year.
“We haven’t had the sales we wanted on Wii U hardware. We haven’t had the software for most of this year. But we have some quite ambitious numbers, particularly with some of our biggest franchises coming,” said UK marketing director Shelly Pearce.
“Our monthly tracking shows that Wii remains the No.1 console for brand awareness. This offers us a massive opportunity to convert Wii owners to Wii U.
“Interest is starting to grow but we know we have a lot of work to do.”
She added: “There was a big misconception at launch about what Wii U is. And one of the big messages is that this is a new console and a new controller. There are many people out there that don’t know what this is.”
Nintendo will be targeting its activity against kids and parents, a very different audience to PS4 and Xbox One. But Pearce added that winning over Nintendo fans will prove crucial.

We could probably fill the wordcount without even getting past the moat. After all, we filled whole afternoons without getting past it. The outside of Peach’s Castle was 3D gaming’s gentle introductory playground. It seems oddly sparse today: just a cluster of trees and a lake devoid of traditional game-like challenge. But that’s the point. Nintendo built Mario 64 on a foundation of technological breakthrough with its sprawling 3D worlds, but nothing but pure design and animation brilliance can be thanked for Mario’s supple, elastic controls. There was a joyous, bouncy pleasure in the sheer act of movement, and the open, undulating grounds of Peach’s Castle were built for frolicking in.What a contrast with all those locked doors inside. Super Mario 64 didn’t feature the first platform game hub level but certainly codified the form, since other aspects of its design meant the between-levels part of the game had to shoulder much more responsibility than before. A map screen is great when you’ve got the best part of 100 levels to lay out, but Super Mario 64 only had 15. They were bigger than anything players had ever seen, designed for repeat visits and full of diversions, but the game needed a different means of tying the courses together. From a functional perspective, then, Princess Peach’s royal abode is pure padding – it takes Super Mario 64’s 15 stages and sprinkles them over four subdivided floors. Despite the gating it does so nonlinearly, a subtle clue that things had changed from the days when Mario’s adventures were nothing but an epic journey towards the right of the screen. This was a space to be explored, with multiple entrances, exits and rooms you were meant to return to. Still, it’s a relatively compact, tidy and efficient environment compared with the bloated hubs it would inspire: you could fit Peach’s Castle many times over into Donkey Kong 64’s DK Island or Banjo-Tooie’s sprawling Isle O’ Hags.

Nintendo has announced another returning fighter for the 3DS and Wii U incarnations of Super Smash Bros. It's Toon Link, from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. His inclusion makes a lot of sense - Wind Waker HD is due for release next month, and the cel-shaded version of the character has gained considerable popularity since Wind Waker's initial release, enough to star in DS spin-offs Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.Toon Link is the latest in a line of returning characters already confirmed for the games: Peach, Luigi, Kid Icarus' Pit and Pikmin's Olimar have already been confirmed, alongside returning regulars Mario, Bowser, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Fox, Kirby and Pikachu.New additions to the games' roster will include Mega Man, Animal Crossing's Villager and the Wii Fit Trainer.

Sam Fisher and Fourth Echelon get some new gadgets and missions in Splinter Cell Blacklist today.
The Homeland DLC pack, available for $6.99 on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U, adds a pair of co-op mission maps, two new sneaking suits for Sam, a crossbow with sleeping darts and some skins for Blacklist's Spies vs. Mercs multiplayer mode. Previously, this DLC content was exclusive to pre-orders and the collector's edition.
Splinter Cell Blacklist launched last month, marking the first entry in Ubisoft's iconic series since the divisive Splinter Cell: Conviction back in 2010. In our review of Blacklist, we lauded the campaign's situational freedom and proclaimed it the best entry in the series yet.

In an interview with CVG, Ubisoft executive Alain Corre was asked whether Rayman Legends (which has been released on Wii U, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 and PS Vita) would eventually arrive on Nintendo's handheld.
"When you look at Rayman Legends you see it's a very big game with a lot of levels. The graphics in 2D are also second-to-none. So, it takes time to squeeze everything and downsize it onto other formats," he responded.
"But we're not ruling anything out for that format [the 3DS]. We can't say anything more for the moment, but we can't rule the format out."
Nintendo's 3DS has recorded its most successful year yet in the UK, with a string of key software releases ensuring the handheld outperformed both the PS3 and Xbox 360 in terms of hardware and software revenue.
Though Ubisoft has released few 3DS games since the console's launch, Corre suggested there were clear opportunities for the company in persuing the handheld.
"The 3DS is a big success, it's selling a lot of machines in a lot of countries and if we consider a franchise, game or gameplay style that can be developed for it, we'll consider it."
In February, Ubisoft announced that Rayman Legends would no longer be a Wii U exclusive and was due for release on several other platforms, which resulted in some Nintendo fans venting their outrage at the decision (the switch to multiplatform also meant the game was delayed).
The game entered at number six in the UK charts, yet the Wii U version nevertheless outsold the Xbox and PS3 editions combined.
"I think Rayman Legends is really defining what the quality of the Wii U is. Huffington Post was saying it might be the best platformer ever created, we agree," Corre said.
"It can really show what the Wii U is, when you play with the second screen on the GamePad, I think it's some of the best laughing moments you can have while playing a game.
"We believe the Wii U has real potential and power. A machine works when you have great content on it, we feel Rayman was one, Just Dance is another one coming, with Donkey Kong and Mario from Nintendo also."

In an interview for the 100th issue of Official Nintendo Magazine, Miyamoto was asked about his apprentices and whether he had any star pupils in particular.
"As you saw at our presentation at E3, Mr Aonuma chased me off stage... he doesn't need me any more!" Miyamoto replied, referring to Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma. "The final responsibility for the title still comes down to me and I'm still involved in the games, but I'm definitely able to leave the series up to him in a way.
"I don't have to look at every minute detail of every game any more. I know there's going to be the level of quality that we expect under his supervision."
Miyamoto said that this was not just the case with the Zelda series, noting that the numerous producers he has trained over the years at Nintendo are now skilled enough to be trusted to work on their own without his supervision.
"Similarly, we have Koizumi-san, who's the producer of the Mario series, and it's the same type of situation," he explained. "And certainly Konno-san with Mario Kart, too. And Mr Eguchi, producer of the Animal Crossing series.
"These are the main producers that we've trained who are talented enough and we can allow them to oversee the project and manage all the details and still maintain the Nintendo level of quality."
In July this year, Miyamoto revealed to Famitsu magazine that he is working on a new Wii U title that hasn't been announced yet.
"I can't say too much in detail right now," he told them, "but I've been pretty busy with this title these days."
The full interview with Miyamoto can be found in issue 100 of Official Nintendo Magazine.
