Nintendo is to carry out extended Wii U and 3DS maintenance today, the company has confirmed.
It's unclear if this is in any way linked to tomorrow's Nintendo Direct broadcast, but online services for both platforms will be affected during the maintenance period. The extended maintenance period will run from approximately 4pm until 1am on Tuesday morning (BST) / 8am until 5pm (Pacific), Nintendo says. Nintendo Direct will be streamed online at 7am PDT / 3pm BST on Tuesday, October 1. Hosted by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata, it will provide updates on Wii U and 3DS games launching this year.
Nintendo's remaining 2013 Wii U line-up includes Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U. On 3DS,Pokemon X & Y and Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds are both due for release this year.
In its last Nintendo Direct broadcast, Nintendo revealed Wii Sports Club, a HD Wii U update of the original Wii launch title with various payment options. It also announced fresh Wii Fit U details, including a free trial that will be offered to owners of previous Wii Fit games.
