You won't need spider-sense to see this coming: Activision and Beenox are teaming up again to create an Amazing Spider-Man 2 game. The title is scheduled to swing onto PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PC and 3DS systems alongside the film, which is currently slated for May 2014. Polygonreports the announcement was made by Marvel representatives during a panel at New York Comic-Con.
The game will take place in an open world Manhattan, and like the previousAmazing Spider-Man game, will not be a straight movie-to-game translation in terms of plot. Players won't just be playing as the wisecracking superhero, as some portions of the game will also place control within the more mundane shoes of Peter Parker.
The game will also feature a morality system dubbed "Hero or Menace," which will reward or punish players depending on how they respond to crises within the city. We doubt J. Jonah Jameson will be swayed regardless.

Zelda series Producer Eiji Aonuma approached development of the upcomingThe Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds with unassisted exploration in mind. During an interview with Polygon, he explained that the game won't "completely guide players through the experience" and addressed game developers' general concern for leaving players in the dark.
"We kind of have a bad habit of hand-holding, trying to make things easier for everyone," Aonuma said. "More and more, I start to think that that kind of isn't actually that fun." Aonuma shared an example of a three-day feud between himself and his director over the inclusion of a hint in an area of the game, ultimately resulting in its removal.
The interview follows news earlier this month that the game will allow players to tackle dungeons in whichever order they prefer. A recent trailer also named the game's alternate universe Lorule and gave us a glimpse of an artistically-inclined antagonist.

Many gamers are focused on the PS4 and Xbox One launches, but we'd be remiss if we didn't mention a third that just took place: the Nintendo 2DS is now available in Australia, Europe and North America. US-based shoppers can buy black/blue and black/red models for $129. As a refresher, the system is aimed at both frugal buyers and newcomers who may not miss the 3DS' hinged design and namesake 3D visual effects; it still handles 3DS and DS games. The 2DS isn't likely to please veteran players, but it may satisfy parents who want a cheap way to introduce their kids to handheld gaming.

Before WayForward made the isometric multiplayer dungeon crawler, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, it had actually attempted to make a far more traditional Silent Hill adventure on DS.This was back in 2006 before the studio worked on Contra 4. The developer didn't get beyond making a one-room prototype demo using the lead character and assets from Silent Hill 2, but you can get a vague feel for what it was going for by watching footage of this canned project on WayForward's Twitch video below (starts at about 5:30).Curiously, this wasn't WayForward's only cancelled Silent Hill prototype as its original vision for Book of Memories was vastly different from the commercial version that came out last year. Initially, it was going to be more of a puzzley adventure game that would switch perspectives between an isometric view and a more traditional behind-the-shoulder camera.Silent Hill: Book of Memories once looked like this.
"The original idea was to have both perspectives in the game. And I think we were going to go closer for the combat stuff and for the puzzley stuff we were going to zoom out," game director Adam Tierney explained. "It ended up not really working. The tech was problematic. It was also just not feasible to support all assets in two different perspectives.""If we could switch you'd have to build a ceiling that you only saw half the time," Konami producer Tom Hulett added."The lead programmer and I, we really digested it, looked into it, and it kind of would have almost doubled the work load to create something that would work in both perspectives, so ultimately we had to go with something like this," Tierney said, referring to the isometric view.To see more of this coulda-shoulda-woulda been Book of Memories, watch the demo at about 24 minutes into the video above..

An upgraded Nintendo 3DS version of Square Enix's PSOne-era mascot racerChocobo Racing has ceased development, creator Takashi Tokita confirmed with Siliconera.
"The original Chocobo Racing was made by me," Tokita told Siliconera. "But the one for the 3DS was a project being handled by someone else, and as far as I know, it has been closed. Now, if I had made it, I would have made sure that it came out. Unfortunately I was not!"
Chocobo Racing 3D was one of the first games Square Enix announced for the Nintendo 3DS, though few details were revealed regarding the project beyond a handful of screenshots and a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgP7UdqMFVQ"]brief gameplay snippet. Rest in peace, little chocobo. May you roam forever free in the great in the sky.

Hyper Light Drifter, a new indie project that has triggered a fever of interest on Kickstarter, will now be ported to Nintendo's Wii U after its development team reached new heights on the crowdfunding platform.
The project, in development at California development team Heart Machine, initially sought $27,000 on Kickstarter but has now surpassed $550,000.
Extra money will help fund Hyper Light Drifter's expansion to numerous platforms, from PC to Mac, Linux, PS4, Vita, Ouya and Wii U. At the time of writing, the Kickstarter project will still be accepting additional funds for 33 hours until the investment window closes.
Hyper Light Drifter is at times reminiscent of the dungeon designs of 2D Zeldas, as well as the acclaimed iOS title Sword & Sworcery. For some fans, the game stands out through its vivid art style, with ambitious pixel art designs brought to life with a bright and bold colour palette.

Developer Two Tribes has abandoned its expansion plans for Toki Tori 2 on the Wii U.
The studio has apologised for “breaking a promise” to release a level editor for the game but admitted that the Wii U release “didn’t sell as good as we hoped it would”.
Confessed the studio: “So we asked ourselves: is this big update really worth the additional investment? We also figured that if we release a level editor, it won’t do much extra to the sales. When we weighed all the options, we unfortunately decided that it was the best option to move on and focus on a new game.”
That’s not to say that Two Tribes didn’t thoroughly explore the idea – it clearly did and at one point thought it may have happened upon a viable solution using Steam.
“We did come up with yet another solution: Steam integration on the Wii U,” it added. “This would make it at least possible for Wii U gamers to play custom levels created by people on Steam. We are actually pretty excited about that idea!
“So we talked to Valve and Nintendo to see if it was at possible in any way. But after discussions and technical investigations, it turned out to be a dead end as well. At least for now.”
As recompense Two Tribes has said it will issue free copies of the Steam version on PC, which can be requested via Nintendo’s Miiverse.

Wii U UK sales rose by more than 685 per cent last week, Nintendo has told MCV.
The sudden improvement in sales follows the debut of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, which debuted at No.4 in the Chart-Track All-Formats Charts lastweek.
Wii U has suffered a poor nine months, which Nintendo attributes to a lack of awareness and the absence of major software.
The firm's big Q4 campaign started last week for Wii U, and the console has also seen a slight reduction in price, which coincides with the arrival of a new Zelda hardware bundle.
A LEGO City Undercover hardware package is set to arrive later this month.

We all know some cheeky indies like to put games out a few days early. And that Doris in Tesco might mistakenly sell you a copy of GTA V before launch.
But how about thousands of UK stores selling a game a day before it's released?
Well that is what has just happened. For some reason known only to Nintendo (probably something to do with a worldwide launch) Pokemon X and Y was due to come out tomorrow (Saturday, October 12th).
Except if you want it, you can get it right now. Pretty much on any High Street in the country.
GAME is the biggest breaker of street date hearts. They even sent out text messages to pre-order customers urging them to come in now and pick it up. And seeing as they are the biggest games retailer in the UK, that's a pretty big deal. (We've asked them for comment, journalism fans. They're on it).
If you have stuck to the release date (you know, like a good little retailer), then well done, you've probably missed out on quite a bit of money. Because according to Nintendo, Pokemon X and Y isits most pre-ordered game. It is being backed by their biggest marketing campaign this year. And according to critics, it's bloody fantastic.
Obviously an extra day on sale should help the game score higher in the UK Charts out on Monday.
The game launches alongside Nintendo's new handheld, the 2DS.

Company president says console giant has to innovate to compete
Former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi taught Satoru Iwata and Nintendo not to be afraid of failure.
Speaking at the B Dash Camp in Osaka, as translated by The Bridge, Iwata explained that Nintendo’s history is full of both good and bad experiences, but that it was important for the company to consistently innovate.
He said Nintendo was “not good at competing”, so had to challenge the status quo to get ahead.
“If you do the same thing as others, it will wear you out,” said Iwata.
“Nintendo is not good at competing so we always have to challenge [the status quo] by making something new, rather than competing in an existing market.”
He added: “It’s often called the ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’, looking for something that no one else is working on. When we created the DS, people said it was strange to have a dual display, and people said elderly people don’t play games. But they did. Opening the first door is when things are most interesting.”
Last year Nintendo released its latest home console, the Wii U, featuring a unique tablet shaped controller to utilise a second-screen experience. The hardware has struggled somewhat to gain traction with consumers however, and lifetime sales currently stand at around 3.45 million units.
Iwata recently said however that Nintendo was striving to return to ‘Nintendo-like’ profits by the end of March 2014, after posting an operating loss for the fiscal year ending March 2013.
“We strive to regain ‘Nintendo-like’ profits for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014 by providing many people with fascinating games and services,” he said.
“We continue to make brand-new and unique proposals, and make efforts for the growth of the home entertainment industry with a mission that is to pleasantly surprise people and put smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches.”

If you spend your days tutting at the Wii U GamePad's underwhelming battery life, then you were probably annoyed to see Nintendo launch a 2,550mAh power pack in Japan. Thankfully, however, that same spare part has now made its way over to Europe, where both UK and German gamers (let's call 'em WiiUsers) can now snag the unit. It'll set you back £25 in Blighty and €37 over in Germany, and should let you play for between five-to-eight hours between charges. Happy gaming!
