Mighty Switch Force and Bloodrayne Betrayal developer WayForward Technologies is hoping to bring its enhanced Wii U port of Mighty Switch Force 2 to the eShop next month.
WayForward director James Montagna revealed this in an interview with Siliconerawhere he explained that this sequel will have a different look than the Wii U port of the first game, Mighty Switch Force: Hyperdrive Edition. "It's a pixel version of the game with high-definition interstitial screens, so it won't be quite like Hyperdrive Edition or anything like that," he explained.Montagna noted that the studio initially wasn't planning to port the game to Wii U, but fan feedback in the Miiverse changed its tune. "On Miiverse, the Mighty Switch Force community has been very vocal about bringing Mighty Switch Force 2 to the Wii U," he explained. "We had no intentions of bringing it to the Wii U, originally. [Mighty Switch Force: Hyperdrive Edition] was an experiment, something we just wanted to try out - but [because of feedback] we are bringing Mighty Switch Force 2 to the Wii U. We caved."Elsewhere at WayForward, the prolific studio announced in a Kickstarter update that it will bring its crowdfunded "metroidvania" adventure Shantae: Half-Genie Hero to Vita and Vita TV if the project can reach its minimum $400K goal. So far it's at $222,116 after a week and it's got 24 days left before its 4th October deadline, so things are looking promising on that front.

Over 1000 indie developers and studios have shown an interest in developing for Wii U, according to Dan Adelman, Nintendo's manager of business development.
During Game Developers Conference in March this year, Nintendo launched a new Wii U developer website where indies could register their interest in making games for Wii U.
Upcoming Wii U indie title Q.U.B.E. Director's CutIn a new interview with Gamespot, Adelman said the response from developers has been "overwhelming".
"We've gotten probably over 1,000, I don't know if we've hit 2,000, developers with really wide-ranging levels of experience.
"We've got some who have recently left their jobs in mainstream publishers and are starting a new company, or have been indies for a while. All the way to high school students who are thinking of getting into game development and want to know more about it.
"So one of the challenges is going through and it's ultimately a resource allocation issue at that point. We want to support everybody, so how do we do that in the most effective manner and how do we prioritize in just making sure that... our intent is to support everyone, really.
"The underlying philosophy is that if you can make a game on our systems, we want to find a way for you to be able to do that."
In August, Adelman confirmed that 20-30 more indie games would be coming to Wii U by the end of 2013.
A recent Wii U indie montage video released by Nintendo showcased 18 upcoming indie titles in the works at Australian and European developers.

Electronic cigarettes are all the rage these days, and as with any new electronic bauble, someone is eventually going to stuff it in some old NES hardware. The NES controller e-cig has been done before, but [mastblast09]‘s controller mod is one of the best ones around.
A bit of background before we dig into this: e-cigarettes are just any other *cough cough cough* vaporizer you might find, but instead of turning a solid into a vapor, these guys turn a nicotine-infused liquid into a vapor. As e-cigarettes are a bit more legal than some other magic boxes, there is, of course, an amazing amount of options out there for those that partake.
[Mastblast09] is using an off-the-shelf e-cig controller and charger board carefully placed them in a hollowed out NES controller. With the help of a few tact switches he made the B button on the controller light up the coil and the up and down switches change the wattage.
The real treat in this build is the addition of a very small LED voltmeter. With this, [mastblast09] can check out the voltage of his NES e-cigarette under load, a big help if you’re trying to perfect the perfect vape while the battery is under load.

Rune Factory 4will start up a European production line thanks to Zen United, the same distributor that handled the continental carriage of Harvest Moon: A New Beginning and Persona 4 Arena. Zen director Geraint Evans didn't disclose any details in an interview with JPGames.de, but an official announcement in the "very near future" may produce more info.
As for North America, the 3DS agricultural sim/RPG is due sometime this fall. In August publisher XSeed said it "could be looking at a late September or October release," although late September is nearly upon us and a release date hasn't cropped up yet.

From September 9 until September 29, Pokéfans can visit their local GameStop to pick up a special shiny version of the legendary Pokémon Palkia.
This marks the second leg of a promotion in which GameStop is offering gratis shiny, legendary Pokémon to build hype for the October 12 release of Pokémon X and Y. During August GameStop offered players a shiny Dialga, while October will see the store handing out shiny Giratinas.
To earn your new shiny Palkia, you must show up at a GameStop location with either a Nintendo 3DS or DS, and a copy of Pokémon Black, White, Black 2 orWhite 2. GameStop reminds players to ensure that their game has fewer than 11 Wonder Cards collected, as the Palkia transfer will require at least one free Wonder Card slot.

As odd as it sounds, Pokémon Rumble U doesn't feature a single Pokémon. Instead, the Pikachus and Charizards you encounter are sentient toys equipped with the attacks and elemental affinities of their namesakes. They each look largely as you'd expect, but this toy-based quirk lends itself well to Nintendo's overall strategy for the game, which involves releasing a series of action figures which can be used as playable characters in Pokémon Rumble U.
From a corporate, money-making perspective, this seems like a brilliant, almost nefarious scheme to part parents from their paychecks. Unfortunately, the potential of marrying the addiction of Pokémon with the appeal of physical toys loses much of its appeal in the face of overly simplistic gameplay - even for a Pokémon spin-off.

September 10th, 2013, 01:48 Posted By: wraggster
The idea for a Wind Waker remake came from an inadvertent discovery Nintendo made during early pre-production for the new, as yet unnamed Wii U Zelda game.
Zelda director Eiji Aonuma says the developers were experimenting with the visual styles of previous Zelda games in HD during planning for the new adventure when they realised how well Wind Waker's art style suited the leap to HD.
"When we were thinking about the new Zelda for Wii U, which is something we're actually working on, we needed to experiment with a variety of graphic styles and it was part of that process we took some existing Zelda games and made them HD just to see what would happen," Aonuma told Polygon.
"In doing so we realized that the Wind Waker graphic style, the art style, really represented well on the Wii U given the graphic capabilities of the new system," he went on.
"It really brought that world to life. On top of the graphic representation of this world, we were able to tighten those areas I was mentioning before, I really felt like it could breathe new life into this already existing space, this already existing experience."
But while the GameCube classic is receiving both visual and gameplay tweaks in its transition to Wii U, Aonuma said he's "very concerned" with not changing the game too much in fear of upsetting fans of the original.
He likened it to the backlash over the remastered versions of the original Star Wars trilogy. "I too was one of those Star Wars fans who saw the HD Star Wars and was a little bit disappointed because it wasn't my Star Wars. I understand those feelings and I understand the possibility of it happening. So it's something we're aware of," he said.
"I didn't want to change what made the original so much fun ... basically, the overall image of the game, including the story and the flow hasn't been affected, wont be impacted, but we certainly made adjustments so the rhythm doesn't drag."
Nintendo recently released new a new gameplay video that directly compared the HD remake to the GameCube original.
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD will release October 4 in the US, Europe and Australia.

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.
Casting aside such permutations as the DSi and the DSi XL, it makes ordinal sense for the Nintendo 3DS to have followed the Nintendo DS. This is true even if the "3" was for the number of dimensions and not necessarily generations (in which case it might have been named the DS 3). But it seems a bit puzzling on the face of it to come out with a product called the 2DS after the 3DS. Changing the sub-brand immediately calls the notion of compatibility into question even if one can see why Nintendo wouldn't want to include "3D" in a product that doesn't display it. (At least it's not being called "the new 3DS.")
And that's but one of the confusing things about the 2DS, in which the strongest champion of hand-held gaming hardware has eliminated the signature feature of its latest portable console generation as well as the clamshell design with which the DS series has been identified since its debut a decade ago. The result is a makeover of the portable 3D handheld that is a bit less portable and a lot less 3D.

When 3DS launched, MCV visited High Street stores to talk 3DS with store staff, and we were disappointed by the results.
Several of the men and women whose job it was to sell Nintendo’s new portable told us that the 3DS was just a DS with a 3D screen. Not the entirely new games console that it actually was.
You can see where the confusion came from. 3DS looked and sounded like another model in what had become an annual stream of new DS SKUs. And to your everyday customer and untrained sales assistant, that’s exactly what it was.
Now, over two years since 3DS first arrived, Nintendo surprised us with 2DS. It’s not a DS (but plays DS games) and is a 3DS (but doesn’t play games in 3D). Is this a confusion too far?
“2DS looks very different, that’s one key advantage,” says Nintendo’s UK marketing director Shelly Pearce. “There’s no mistaking that this is a different product to the DS. And we will clearly communicate to retail and we will clearly communicate online. We will be supporting 2DS on TV. And the name itself helps. I don’t think it will be an issue.
“When you first look at it you might think it’s complicated, but it’s quite a simple proposition. It does everything 3DS does, but at an entry-level price point and in 2D.”
This Christmas is one of battles. Xbox vs PlayStation. Call of Duty vs Battlefield. Gran Turismo vs Forza. But perhaps one of the most important fights will be over the hearts and minds of children.
Today’s under 10s do not view the console as the only means to play games. To them, the browser or Dad’s tablet are just as viable. And yet, in a Christmas dominated by expensive, adult-orientated new hardware, the console games industry is doing very little to win over a new generation.
“2DS looks very different, that’s one key
advantage. There’s no mistaking that this
is a different product to the DS. And we
will clearly communicate to retail and we
will clearly communicate online. And the
name itself helps. I don’t think it will be an
issue. When you first look at it you might
think it’s complicated, but it’s quite a simple
proposition. It does everything 3DS does,
but at an entry-level price point and in 2D.” Shelly Pearce - marketing director, Nintendo UK
Xbox 360, PS3 and Vita will skew younger this year, but these are still primarily core gamer machines. Wii U has the right content but not the right price point. And 3DS is not as kid-friendly as you may think, with Nintendo warning parents that young Children should not use the 3D screen.
Skylanders and Disney Infinity are perhaps the biggest kids IP over Christmas. But these are expensive products that target the more affluent families.
That’s where the 2DS comes in.
“We saw an opportunity in the market for an entry-level gaming device,” continues Pearce. “It is a streamlined, value gaming system for those younger kids.
“We have had great momentum behind 3DS, and we are moving into peak season with some key titles that will appeal to that younger kid market. We are essentially appealing to existing DS owners or young gamers about to enter gaming for the first time, who were perhaps mucking about on Mum and Dad’s phone and they are looking for a good in-depth gaming device. That is where we see 2DS fitting in.”
2DS may lack the sleek, mature aesthetics of the 3DS XL, but as a kids device it looks the part. Colourful, chunky and robust, it is the sort of machine you won’t worry about getting bashed around in a kid’s school bag or on the beach during a summer holiday.

Just Dance has now sold over 5m units in the UK, says Ubisoft.
The firm revealed the stat ahead of the launch of the next Just Dance title – Just Dance 2014.
The multi-platform hit has generated most of its sales from Nintendo Wii. Nintendo’s home console business has struggled over the last 12 months, but Ubisoft still remains bullish over the potential of its dance hit.
“Just Dance is still the No.1 dance franchise in the UK and has continued to exceed expectations. It has been incredibly successful since it first launched and is a definite crowd-pleaser, particularly popular around Christmas,” said Ombeline Wallon, senior brand manager.
“It has been a difficult couple of years, especially for the Wii market, which is where Just Dance has been the most successful so far. But we’ve also seen increasing interest from consumers on other formats. We are looking forward to seeing them embrace Just Dance 2014 on the next generation of consoles,” Wallon added.
Ubisoft has booked two campaigns for Just Dance 2014. The first is aimed at the franchise’s core fans and will run at launch. The second is a separate campaign set for December, designed to cash-in on the Christmas gifting period. The game’s advertising will include promotion through TV, radio, video-on-demand and online.
The game is scheduled for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Wii U on October 4th.
Just Dance 2014 will be available on Xbox One and PS4 late 2013 following the launch of the two consoles in November.

Fceux SVN r2989 is compiled. FCEUX is a cross platform, NTSC and PAL Famicom/NES emulator that is an evolution of the original FCE Ultra emulator. Over time FCE Ultra had separated into many separate branches. The concept behind FCEUX is to merge elements from FCE Ultra, FCEU rerecording, FCEUXD, FCEUXDSP, and FCEU-mm into a single branch of FCEU. As the X implies, it is an all-encompassing FCEU emulator that gives the best of all worlds for the general player, the ROM-hacking community, and the Tool-Assisted Speedrun Community.

Dolphin Git 3.5-2296 is compiled. This is the trunk of Dolphin Project. Dolphin is the first Gamecube emulator able to run commercial games! Dolphin is a Gamecube, Wii and Triforce (the arcade machine based on the Gamecube) emulator which supports many extra features and abilities not present on the original consoles. It has a partial Wii support and plays most Gamecube games.
Dolphin Git changelog:
- ARM] Optimization to psq_l, no need to push/pop regs anymore. Implement support for single float loading, gives a decent speedup to Ikaruga in menus and game.
- [ARM] Optimize that fastmem load/stores minimally.
- [ARM] 1 instruction optimization for psq_l
- Fix the glew check. GLES3 can be used on non-Android platforms.
- [ARM] Use NEON for loading the values from psq_l, gives a minimal performance increase. This change also begins a new NEONXEmitter for having cleaner support for NEON.
- Update Gameini ratings from the Wiki
- [Android] Show the full text for save and load states if there's room on the screen. If not, let it overflow into a context menu.
- [Android] Make the MotionAlertDialog private. This isn't needed to be protected anymore. The only reason it was protected was for when the input settings were coupled as all hell to the GameListActivity (lol). Also documented the interface method within it.
