consolegaming.eu, one of Europes largest clan gaming sites today announced that it will be launching the first competitive Nintendo Wii ladder in Europe. This will take the form of Super Mario Strikers.
Marco Spoor, General Manager of Consolegaming.eu stated that “The market is currently dominated by the more conventional competitive ladders such as Rainbow Six: Vegas or Socom, by launching a ladder for Super Mario Strikers we are hoping that we can draw in the casual gamer, and those that want a break from your standard online game and reunite them on the virtual football field. This will bring us closer to achieving our aim of becoming a central hub for which all European gamers can converse and compete in a ladder environment”
Since ConsoleGaming.eu was launched in January 2007 the staff have done a lot to help make the site easier for everyone to use by having the ladders and the forums avaliable in 10 of the most spoken languages in Europe. There are dedicated community managers for each of the languages to provide you with support each step of the way.
Mario Strikers will join the current 11 ladders spread out over the three major formats, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. All of which have achieved major success since launching in April, with more ladders being launched all the time.
You are able to register for the ladders at http://mscf.wii.consolegaming.eu/.

The elves mining Nintendo's vaults for classic games have unearthed three new ones to add to the Wii Shop Channel. They feature ragers, lasers and, um, monkeys not in cages. Anyway, it's unlikely that you've played all three of these, so go ahead and check 'em out. Or the elves will cry.
The three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
Donkey Kong Country 2™: Diddy's Kong Quest™ (SNES®, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): In the sequel to the immensely popular Donkey Kong Country™, Diddy Kong® gets the spotlight, along with his girlfriend, Dixie Kong™ - a great little monkey with a dangerous ponytail. The action starts on the wreck of King K. Rool's Gangplank Galleon that has apparently broken up on a reef offshore from the Kremlings' Island. Diddy and his friends will have to work together to rescue Donkey Kong®, exploring all the hidden areas of the Kremlings' island: a spooky haunted forest, treacherous swamps, a giant beehive oozing with sticky honey and lava-filled caves, just to name a few.
Streets of Rage™ 2 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): To celebrate their defeat of the Syndicate exactly one year before, Blaze, Adam and Axel met for drinks. The next morning, Axel received a frantic phone call from Eddie "Skate" Hunter, Adam's younger brother, whom he was living with on the edge of the city. Blaze and Axel found Adam and Skate's house wrecked, and a picture showing Adam chained up at the feet of Mr. X. The city then once again returned to its nightmarish state as criminals ran rampant. Unable to contact their old friend in artillery, Axel and Blaze team up with Skate and Max Thunder to free the city and rescue Adam from the Syndicate. It is up to you to take down Mr. X once and for all.
Blazing Lazers (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): Blazing Lazers is a vertical-scrolling shooter that was praised for surpassing the limitations of the hardware of its time. Players control the extraordinary firepower of their Gunhed Star Fighter to take on the Dark Squadron that has begun its invasion of Earth. Collect power-ups to increase your ship's battle strength so it can cut through enemies and defeat the bosses in all nine areas. Of course, as part of the "Soldier" series, the game contains a good combination of fast-paced speed with catchy, drum-propelled background music, coupled with the Field Thunder that can be used to destroy enemies in one fell swoop for the ultimate sense of satisfaction. With its fine-tuned difficulty levels, Blazing Lazers is a shooting game that anyone can enjoy.

press release:
Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR) one of the world's most recognized brands and a third-party video game publisher, today announced that Dragon Ball Z®: Budokai TenkaichiTM 3 is in development for WiiTM and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 combines the lightning fast fighting and action that have made Budokai Tenkaichi 1 and Budokai Tenkaichi 2 the #1 fighting games of 2005 and 2006. Developed by NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. / Spike, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is slated to release during the 2007 holiday season.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 delivers an extreme 3D fighting experience, improving upon last year's game with over 150 playable characters, enhanced fighting techniques, beautifully refined effects and shading techniques, making each character's effects more realistic, and over 20 battle stages. In addition, an improved control system for the Wii will allow players to easily mimic signature moves and execute devastating energy attacks as they are performed in the Dragon Ball Z animated series.
"Atari is incredibly excited to offer the ultimate chapter in the Budokai Tenkaichi series with over 20 new characters that have never been seen in any other DBZ video games such as Nail, King Cold and King Vegeta and battle stages that fans will love," said Emily Anadu, Senior Product Manager, Atari, Inc. "Each year, the developers refine the game to bring fans closer to feeling like they are actually playing the show."
In addition to the unprecedented number of characters and improved Wii control system, the environments have also been enhanced to feature day and night stages. The power of the moon in the night stages gives players additional ways to transform their characters and lets fans recreate some of their favorite memories from the show.
The immensely popular Dragon Ball Z® series is the gold standard of anime-based video games, with more than 25 different games and over 10 million units sold since May 2002.

The Lemmings DS Team have released a new version of their game for the DS, heres the release info:
DiGG THIS
Alrighty! Here's a DLDI alpha version for y'all!
Unrar that into the root of your card, and update the config file if you don't like the 'LemmingsDS' directory.
It works on my Supercard SD, and that's currently all I know.
Give the levels that are there a shot... the level system works a bit differently now:
There are two level categories, Standard and Custom. When the game starts, it'll take a minute (it won't take this long in a non-debug version ^_^) to cycle through the directories in /LemmingsDS/levels/1player/standard and custom and tries to identify all the levels it can find. It groups them together based on the directories they're in... (you'll know what I'm talking about if you give it a go.)
The level format for this version is different to the old one, so old levels won't work. (If you try and copy them into the directories, they should be ignored by Lemmings DS.) I'll get to making a convertor when I've figured out what needs to be in the new format.
If anything weird happens, post about it and include the debugout.txt which magically appears in the root.
Edit - As with all homebrew, back up before you run this! I don't take responsibility if this makes your flash cards go funny. (It hasn't done anything weird to my SCSD stuff in these last months, but I can't guarantee behaviour on other devices, 'cause SCSD is all I got.)

X-Blaster has updated his game for the DS:
Some small modifications Up/Down to generate the spheres of mana (I had cramps with L or R with the fingers) The mana is not unlimited any more and you can “restocked” in the planette by making it turn over towards it. Addition of some “decals” and a menu Some councils for the play. Push back the planettes with spheres of mana fast The stylet acts like a magnet. You must thus take into account inertia and accompany the balls by mana for my sending (that avoids pushing back a meteorite giantess with a very fast sphere).

News/release from Eke-eke:
-=[ Explanation ]=-
This is a NGC program that enables you to load & run the following emulators on your Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii :
- Genesis Plus (Sega Megadrive)
- SMS Plus (Sega Master System & Game Gear)
- FCEuGC (Nintendo Entertainment System)
- GnuboyGX (Gameboy & Gameboy Color)
- Snes9xGC (Super Nintendo)
- HugoGC (NEC Pc-Engine)
- NeoPop (SNK NeoGeo Pocket)
- Neo-CD Redux (SNK NeoGeo CD)
This is mostly designed for modchip users to be used as bootloader DOL on a Selbooting DVD but you can also simply load&run emupack.dol with the method of your choice.
See "Usage" section on how to generate emupack.dol and eventually a selbooting DVD
-=[ Features ]=-
* Nice GUI (I hope ) which let you choose the console system to play
* "All-in-1" DOL which directly includes all the supported emulators executables
* LZMA (7Zip) support for emulator package in order to reduce the final dol's size (thanks to Softdev !)
* automatic bootable DVD iso generation (batch file and all needed tools included)
-=[ Requirements ]=-
* the main program, emuloader.dol (precompiled and included)
* a 7zip archive containing the emulators dols (not included)
* Modchip and/or SoftMod
* 7zip ( http://www.7-zip.org/) to create the emulators package
* DevkitPPC environment & last libOGC if you want to recompile the sources
-=[ Usage ]=-
Please understand that emuloader.dol is useless alone as it doesn't include any emulator executables. It's only the program that will provide the interface and will load the appropriate emulators for you.
You have to attach a 7zip archive to it, containing all the emulator dols, using Softdev's lzmaadd utility (included in /pcutils folder).
This is useful so that you can easily update the emuloader with future versions of the emulators programs.
To do this, after extracting the content of the archive somewhere on your hard disc, just follow the steps below:
Quote:
1) Using 7zip, create a emupack.7z archive with all the needed emulators (.dol) and place this archive in the same directory as emuloader.dol.
IMPORTANT:
don't modify the name of the original dols that you put inside emupack.7z too much as the program try to detect them by looking into filenames for the following strings: "genplus", "smsplus", "snes9x", "fceugc", "hugo", "neopop", "redux", "gnuboy"
do not use compressed (dollz) dols
use LZMA method for compressing, as well as the best compression level (ULTRA)
Quote:
2) Doubleclick on emupack.bat: this will create emupack.dol.
You can now directly load/run emupack.dol if you want but the best way is to create a GC-Linux bootable DVD with all your roms and emupack.dol as the bootdol. For more infos about how to create a GC-Linux bootable DVD, you may want to read this: http://www.gc-linux.org/wiki/Building_a_Bootable_Disc
However, the pcutils folder contains everything you need to create the bootable DVD image, including automatic batch files
Quote:
3) First, put all the roms you want for each systems in their respective /bootdisc subfolders. You may want to create more subdirectories as the limit is 1000 files max. per directory.
Be aware that the total size for the /bootdisc directory should not exceeded ~1.35GB.
Please refer to the related emulator's documentation for specific requirements (see /docs folder)
Quote:
4) Doubleclick on BuildISO.bat & wait for the .iso file to be generated.
Quote:
5) Burn emudisc.iso image with any DVD software (I tested it with CloneDVD) & insert the burned DVD in your console
In the menu, use D-Pad to navigate & Button-A or START to choose a console system.
Once you've started running one emulator, there is no way to come back to the menu, you have to reboot your console
-=[ Source Contents ]=-
*emuloader.c : main program (Video Init, Menu Display & Dol's extracting)
*emuloader.h : compressed (using zlib 2.3) BMP pictures for Menu Display
*memfile.*, lzmasupp.*: Softdev's sourcecode for LZMA support.
*sidestep.*, ssaram.* : Softdev's sourcecode for DOL's loading
*/lzma/ : Standard LZMA SDK 4.43 for ansi C, linked as library
-=[ PCUtils Contents]=-
*lzmaadd & lzmaex: Softdev's utilities to add/extract 7zip file to/from a dol (sourcecode included)
*mkisofs & cygwin.dll: needed to generate a ISO file
*gbi.hdr: Generic Boot Image from Cubeboot-Tools 0.3
-=[ Credits ]=-
LZMA support & DOL Loading original sourcecode - SoftDev
LZMA PC utilities - Softdev
DevkitPPC / LibOGC by Wntrmute & Shagkur
ZLIB by Jean-loup Gailly
gbi.hdr by GCLinux Team
GUI design & generic code "copypasting" by me

I have way too many business cards from press events, and right now I just have them lying in a stack on my desk. This Perler Bead-constructed NES controller card holder is exactly what I need, if only because I always need more Nintendo paraphernalia. Also good for holding Game Boy e-Reader cards. $10, but sold out for now.

A stalwart reader over at GoNintendo was poking around the Japanese Resident Evil 4 Wii site and discovered a link to a special "hidden page." This hidden page itself contained a link to yet another secret page that contained a new trailer for the upcoming port.
Nice looking trailer, but I'm still unsure about the Wii controls they've come up with. I mean all that waving back and forth just to get leon to run like hell seems like it's going to be a bit of a strain on the wrist after a while. I'll be getting a chance to see exactly what the controls will be like when I attend a Capcom press event later this week in NYC. If I can manage to type with possibly broken wrists, I'll let you know how they are.

From this week's Escapist, an article that I don't agree with - the Wii's control scheme makes violent games 'more sinister'? The ESRB should take control schemes into account? Violence via Wii-mote is more damaging than violence via PS3 controller?
Replace a gun with a hammer or a sword, and the actions the player must use to control the onscreen action are even more tangibly violent in nature. Suddenly, the Wii's propensity to make players more animated takes on a much more sinister connotation.
I'm a little tired of the 'Oh, but it's OK for stable people to play this way, BUT' argument - frankly, the world is full of crazy people and if we ran around in fear of what ideas some whackjob might get into their head, we'd be in hysterics over lots of stuff indeed. The author is right, and the industry needs to be cognizant of critics (and some criticisms do indeed have value). But there are a number of pundits who could find connections between games and violent real world acts even if we were only playing Tetris and Katamari (the plaintive mooing of cows as I rolled them up really made me want to go slaughter some animals, let me tell you).
I'm sure someone will hop right on doing a study regarding virtual violence of the Wii type, but until then, it seems indictments of Nintendo's plans and labeling the Wii-mote a vehicle for potentially sinister acts is jumping the gun just a wii bit.

In order to get the DVD Playback to work on the Nintendo Wii, you will need a modified console with a modchip. So far, it has only been tested with WiiKey with all other modchips to be tested on soon.
- There is no ETA until WiiVision can confirm all attributes are fully functioning. When there are ETA's and when that time comes, people will be complaining and spreading rumors. So he would like to avoid this.
- The app will allow you to play original single layer DVD movies (store bought movies).
- The app will also work in ANY region of Wii fitted with ANY modchip that is capable of booting GC homebrew.
- The app supports both standard and widescreen TV/DVD formats.
So I really liked the MFE for GC homebrew... But its lacking in many ways.
My latest project is a new homebrew app that specificly plays DVDs. It's still bound to the GC-Linux (because we still can't load Wii homebrew), but has greatly been improved in playback quality and region support.
This new app is derived from the "proof of concept" that is MFE, but is all fresh code and loads media without the need of a FileSystem mount emmbedded on each media (eg. the DVD Drive FS mount that has to be included on all media MFE loads).
I'm still in development phase, but have tested a couple canidates with good results.
Support currently includes:
- 4.7G DVD Media (-r, +r, +rw, and of course "originals")
- Region Free
- Multi-Language Subtitle Support
The only real downside to this is that you have to load the DVD containing the app, then swap the DVD you want to watch when asked. It's going to stay that way untill we get true Wii homebrew support (and getting there is way beyond me).
Since the application is run via GC Homebrew, you will need a GameCube controller to operate the controls of the DVD UI. There is no way to run Wii Homebrew as of right now. Once there is, things will probably change.
This is the menu of the app, here it allows you to eject, play/pause, and displays the title of the dvd inserted, uses the "b" button to toggle this screen on/off and continues to play/display the dvd unless "start" is pressed to pause. (sorry the image sucks, my camera is old).
Controls:
Toggle menu: B
Play/Pause: Start
SlowMotion: A
Goto Disc Root: Y
Goto First Chapter: X
FF: R Trigger
RW: L Trigger
Next Chapter: C-Stick Right
Previous Chapter: C-Stick Left
DVD Menus Navigation: D-Pad
DVD Menus Select: Start
Eject the disc at anytime: L+R Trigger Combo
After doing more testing, I've decided to ditch the Menu UI and here's why:
System Memory usage and availability: For the app to be able to support standard single layer store bought DVD's, it has to run on top of GC-Linux. Although GC-Linux is small, it still uses quite a bit of the available ram leaving a smaller amount available for the app and its decoder/buffer. If I port my app to direct boot, we loose ALOT if not ALL of the quality and compatibility (simply because the ram and video/audio device support is very limited and mostly has to be writen from scratch).
All of the navigation controls will remain as well as the app/disc loading features.
This evening I will be testing a stripped build allowing a larger decoding buffer.
Here is a link to the video. Its kind of grainy due to crappy webcam but still visible and WiiVision talks about it.
