Tokyo gaming research firm Enterbrain says that the Nintendo Wii is outselling the Sony PS3 by a factor of five to one in May, accelerating from four to one in April, in the latest bad PS3 news.
Sony can’t even get a lucky break in Japan, where the Wii is seriously outselling the PS3, as reported by Bloomberg. Bloomberg quotes the Tokyo gaming research company Enterbrain Inc with the information, and say that while Nintendo sold 251,794 Wii consoles, Sony only sold around 50,000 units.
This compares with 11,082 Xbox 360’s from Microsoft, showing they are doing even worse in Japan, although naturally they are still selling units at more than 2000 per week, while the Nintendo DS is doing to the PSP what the Wii is doing to the PS3: also outselling it five to one.
Enterbrain’s figures are 620,670 DS handheld consoles compared with only 123,673 PSP’s.
This is all despite the Wii having the worst graphics, standard definition instead of high definition, no hard disk, the inability to play DVD movies, no Blu-ray or HD DVD – but simply a unique control mechanism that has caught the imagination of people around the planet.
At figures of around 50,000 units sold for the PS3 in May, Sony are still selling over 10,000 PS3’s per week, which is nothing to be sneezed at, and as programmers release better quality PS3 games and that take better advantage of the PS3’s own motion sensing capabilities, we should start seeing an upsurge in PS3 sales.
But for now the Wii rules the roost, with a long hard slog ahead for Sony and Microsoft to take back the initiative, especially come the big holiday/Christmas season later this year, in what will be the biggest console gaming battle to be fought ever.

Bill Gates apparently thinks that Wii is the future of computer hardware and software. But not in so many words.
Speaking with Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the D5 conference, the Microsoft founder described what he saw as the future of input devices for PCs and other electronic media: "And as we get natural input, that will cause a change. … Software is doing vision and so, you know, imagine a game machine where you’re just going to pick up the bat and swing it or the tennis racket and swing it."
To which the moderators replied, "We have one of those," and referred to Wii by name.
Gates, however, insisted that Nintendo's console was not what he was talking about, saying, "No, that’s not it. You can’t pick up your tennis racket. And swing it."
It's possible that those who've played Wii Tennis might think otherwise, however.

Jdbye has released a skin creator for M3 Simply/R4DS Flash Carts:
It doesn't have that many features yet, but I'm open for suggestions! Currently it can create all 4 skin .bmp files and a customized theme.ini. It will create icons.bmp from a background image and three 72x72 images, so you don't have to worry about putting them in an icons.bmp, aligning them correctly, etc.
Background images are resized automatically (may not look that great, but probably better than if you had resized them using MS Paint). If you don't want this, just provide a 256x192 image. The 72x72 images will be transparent, using the color of the bottom left pixel in the image as transparent color. So, if you fill the transparent parts with a rarely used color, like magenta, it will show up transparent on the picture.
There is currently no way of creating project files for modifying later, but it's possible to open an existing theme.ini. The program will also show a preview of the skin so you know exactly how it will look before you put it on your MicroSD. It will also save a screenshot of how the skin will look on a R4.

News/release from Outphase:
my-MeloDS v.45
by outphase and zoharmodifier
my-MeloDS (read: my melodies) is a piano-based music application for the purpose of ear training and basic composition. There are 4 modes: Free Mode, Ear Training Mode, Composition and Metronome.
Free Mode
---------
This mode allows free play on the piano with no restrictions. Click the instrument name to change instruments.
Ear Training Mode
-----------------
Here, you can take several tests to increase your ear training ability. Follow the instructions on the top screen to determine how to complete each test. Tests are scored right or wrong and have clear cut answers.
Compostion Mode
---------------
You can create a simple melody using the notes provided. I got lazy and prevented a note overrun (tied notes), so you cannot place a note duration that does not fit a perfect measure in 4/4 time.
KNOWN BUGS
----------
Text shows up strangely on slot 2 cards. Strange because we don't use DLDI or any hardware specific calls that we know of.
TO DO

The aquatic version of James Bond lives once more with Codemasters apparently reviving the unique take on the world famous British agent in James Pond: Codename Robocod as it heads to North America on Nintendo's DS.
After a brief release in Europe in 2005, the hero is swimming to the States after being rated by the ERSB, according to Siliconera.
On a separate note, Codemasters have revealed a brand-spanking new logo for your Sunday afternoon fun.

There have been whispers about Wii getting a hard drive for a while now, and the chatter is growing with E3 fast approaching.
On IGN’s latest Wii-k in Review podcast, experts Mark Bozon and Matt Casamassina opined that since the upcoming Neo Geo Virtual Console titles will be so large, a Nintendo Wii hard drive would soon be announced to accomodate the girth.
From Go Nintendo:
Apparently, somewhere around the 33 minute mark Casamassina and Bozon discuss the large file sizes of Neo Geo VC games. This lead the pair to believe that Nintendo would be unveiling a Wii hard drive sometime soon. This fits perfectly with the Jeux-France rumor we posted that discussed the possibility of Nintendo announcing big hardware news at the upcoming E3.
Currently, Wii is the only next-generation console that lacks a hard drive.

A bunch of Wii tidbits were discussed in a recent podcast over at IGN including Manhunt 2, Scarface, additional 3rd party support and potential for a new adult Wii game.
Thanks to NeoGAF for a providing the key points.
# They seem to like Scarface Wii. 4 different control settings (Casual/Normal/Advanced/Expert), different bounding box sizes for aiming, looks good for a Wii game.
# Manhunt 2 "impressively violent", "ridiculous". Rockstar wants controversy on Wii. Lot of variety, Peer calls it "Splatter Cell".
# Not too fond of Mario Party 8.
# Activision/Ubisoft promising more support for Wii.
# New gameplay mechanics in new Naruto for Wii.
# Talking about the Fortune article and how much money Nintendo is making. They don't think they will see a pricedrop this winter, but maybe a new color (black?) Wii.
# E3 will be insane... they don't know about any of the "megatons" yet, just a few things.
# Company trying to get a publisher for an adult Wii game that could be huge. Not a garage developer or Tier C dev.
# Matt says Retro will do something else with Metroid in the future after Prime 3.

Players move around the level by jumping and clinging onto pegs and other hanging items with the DS’s shoulder buttons acting as his left and right hands respectively. When DK teams up with Diddy the pair can collect wings and fly for a short period. For those wanting a little bit more simian action, there are bonus multiplayer gems for up to four people - Banana Catch has Donkey Kong catching bananas falling from the top screen while Rolling Rock Panic takes players on a dangerous obstacle course.

News from Lazyone:
I need some people to write documentation on how to set up and use Mini vMac on the Nintendo DS.
This would include installing to the DS, making a bootable OS image, installing software to OS image and using the emulator.
I am looking for OSX documentation, Linux documentation and Windows documentation. (if you get all that on windows I will be amazed, even Linux may be difficult)
Volunteers will be given the latest test builds as they are available and can request the source along with the binary.
Possible build configurations (reduced accuracy/faster emulation can used with any build):
1MB
2MB
2.5MB
4MB (Requires compatible slot-2 flash cart with at least 4MB of RAM)
Examples of previous work would be nice and I would rather you not leak anything since the port is still in the development phase and a few bugs still exist.
