WiiFree is an open source Wii modchip. It required you to load your own code onto a PIC 12F629/675/683. In order to load the code, you would need to purchase a programmer as well as the PIC chip. Now there is an easier way to install and upgrade WiiFree.
This is a clean and very cheap solution, which makes the installation of PIC 12F629/675/683 in your Wii console extremely fast and easy; allowing the upgrade of the WiiFree code without any problem.
*Every PCB comes with a brand new PIC12F629 bundled.
For more information regarding WiiFree, you can visit the homepage as well as other alternatives for modchips at our CycloWiz / WiiKey / Wiinja / WiiD Seller/Installer List and Open Source Wii Modchip.

After a massive console launch such as that of the Nintendo Wii, the bustling community of modders is never far behind. Some tinker their machines for honest and genuine aesthetic means, but a small, damaging percentages use their knowledge to fuel the industry’s black market for pirated games. In its first step to clamp down on this illegal activity, Nintendo is shipping hard-to-mod Wiis in Japan, reports DailyTech.
Modchips for the Nintendo Wii began to appear just months after its release, so in a keen attempt to halt the business expanding further, Nintendo has revised the console’s hardware to make what were once simple modifications a lot more difficult.
According to a forum post on Hacken.cc, three pins used by current modchips to alter the console’s drive software are now physically cut, making modifications impossible for all but those with highly advanced skills and tools. So far the revisions have only been spotted in Wiis shipped to the land of the rising sun, although we’re sure that similar models will soon be winging their way to regions across the world in the ever-ongoing struggle against pirates.
Just over a month ago Nintendo of Europe released a statement that warned gamers over modding their Nintendo Wiis. It read:
“Modification microchips (mod chips) circumvent the security embedded into Nintendo’s products. To install a mod chip into a Nintendo hardware system, it is necessary to dismantle the product and, in some instances, remove components.
The use of mod chips voids the manufacturer’s warranty. In addition, the installation of a mod chip can damage the functionality of a Nintendo console, sometimes rendering it incapable of repair.
“Mod chips have been adjudicated to be illegal in various countries around the world, including the Unites States, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. Most European countries have also already adopted laws prohibiting the circumvention of technological measures for copyright protection. People caught installing or selling mod chips may be subject to criminal charges.”
To put the problem into some perspective, a Gamasutra report recently stated that pirated Wii games were being sold in China (a country where the videogame black market is rampant) for as little as $1.30 USD each. When you consider how much money both Nintendo and other developers lose in potential sales because of this, it isn’t difficult to see why they take the issue so seriously.

MrD has released a new version of Lemmings for the Nintendo DS:
Digg This
I've done a whole load more stuff to Lemmings... alternative ways of doing stuff that should be more R4 friendly: copy everything in here to the root of your card (don't forget to patch it, too), and see what happens. (New version! Works on R4! Possibly! Really this time!)
Yeah, it still takes half a minute to start up and to begin a level. (Enumerating levels and stuff)
I took out all the .xms except one to speed things up a bit. If you want to put them back, use the xm's from the rar in the post below.
The final version of this will boot and load levels instantly. (It's debugging stuff that slows it down.)
There are only a couple of test levels in this version to test traps and hazards. Levels made with LemmingsDSBuilder -will not work- on this version. This version is just to test these levels for now.

While many third party publishers were late to realize the potential of the Wii, Ubisoft were one of the first. However, the French firm has now admitted that a number of its early Wii titles were rushed and lacked quality.
Ubisoft Wii launch games exclusive to the system included Red Steel (pictured) and Rayman Raving Rabbids, both of which have gone on to become million seller titles. However, the company went on to quickly release a number of uninspired ports of games previously released on other systems, a strategy Ubisoft now acknowledges was flawed, reports IGN.
Speaking to German magazine Spiegel, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and the company's European head, Alain Corre admitted, "We made mistakes," having been over-eager to capitalize on the promise of the Wii. They stated that future titles would be of a higher quality.
The pair also reaffirmed their belief that Nintendo’s rivals Sony and Microsoft should drop the price of the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively in a bid to boost sales. "Sony should set a new price point soon if it still wants to sell a satisfactory amount of units this year. Microsoft, too, by the way."

via IGN,
Despite the fact that Nintendo still seems scared to plunge fully into the realm of online gaming, the company seemingly has no problem with announcing milestones for the DS Wi-Fi Connection service. Today, Nintendo announced two more milestones: More than 5 million unique users have played online using the Wi-Fi Connection, and more than 200 million gaming sessions have been held.
Nintendo has yet to fully involve itself in the rapidly changing world of online games, but that hasn't stopped the company from racking up a huge number of unique users for its handheld's service. The DS launched in November 2005, and to date there are 65 games that can be played via the Wi-Fi Connection. The top five most popular games worldwide have been: Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, Pokemon Diamond, and Pokemon Pearl.
"Nintendo DS gamers globally use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection as an easy, fun place to find fellow players, all without paying anything extra for the service," asserted Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "The milestones represent millions of hours of fun and camaraderie despite miles between players."
Nintendo also brought attention to the popularity of the DS among traditionally non-gaming demographics. According to "internal Nintendo demographic tracking studies," over the last month, DS sales have increased by 42% among women, 127% among people aged 30-35, and 212% among people 35 and older.

via IGN,
Nintendo's hot Touch Generations lineup of games and non-games will be expanding into new territory over in Japan later this year. The latest from the company that brought us million sellers like Brain Age and Common Knowledge Trainer is Ganbaru Watashi no Kakei Diary. We hereby unofficially westernize the name as "My Household Budget Diary."
As suggested by the name, this new non-game promises to assist in planning a household budget. You use the stylus to directly input costs for eighteen areas of your life, including food, fashion and entertainment. The software helps you analyze your spending habits through monthly comparison charts. Also included is a mode that helps when planning for a loan.
Obviously, a title designed for a crowd outside of the millions who picked up New Super Mario Bros. And in case you were wondering, it's not the first of its kind. Last December, Bandai Namco released its own budgeting app for the DS, Dokodemo Raku Raku Kakeibo.
Nintendo's take on household planning will hit Japan on 7/12 at a price of 3800 yen.

via IGN,
Newly-formed publisher Gamecock has announced that its upcoming title Mushroom Men will be waging war on the Nintendo Wii and DS. The game promises to make use of the unique control schemes of each system. Mushroom Men was announced along with Gamecock's formation in February, but at the time the platforms that would grow the fungi were a mystery. The publisher apparently hoped to secure a home on Nintendo systems all along.
"From the minute we signed Mushroom Men, we've worked to bring it to the Wii and DS," said Rick Stults, Console Chief for Gamecock. "Both platforms are going to give Mushroom Men a life of their own as [developer] Red Fly Studio is building unique stories specific to each system."
The other spore game.
The war of the Mushroom Men rages in your backyard with weapons made from everyday items. Other forms of plant life will join the fight as players take on household pests with the Wiimote and DS stylus.

(VERY long read)
Via Canada.com
The stratospheric rise of Nintendo's latest gaming system has been nothing shy of Wii-markable, flattening Sony's PS3 and charging after Microsoft's Xbox 360.
The company is thriving in markets around the world. The Wii was the top-selling console system in Canada, the Nintendo DS handheld was the top-selling portable gaming system, and Nintendo held the top four spots for games (Pokemon Diamond Version DS, Pokemon Pearl Version DS, Wii Play, and Super Paper Mario for Wii) for the period of April 8 to May 5, according to the latest Canadian figures released by independent market researchers NPD Group Inc.
Nintendo boasted the same achievements in the United States while in France the 15 top-selling games are all for Nintendo systems.
"We're ecstatic over the explosive appeal of Wii and Nintendo DS," said vice president and general manager of Nintendo of Canada Ron Bertram.
At the November 2006 launch of the Wii in Toronto, Bertram anticipated good things for the console and hoped for "a strong second place" showing. The actual success is beyond anyone's expectations. In less than five months since introduction, the company has sold six million Wii systems globally and nearly 29 million Wii games. The console has taken a step toward becoming a cultural phenomenon.
"Wii is selling out everything we put into the marketplace," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president and CEO of Nintendo of America, speaking at a conference in Seattle on May 22 to announce sales achievements and upcoming games for the company.
Sony's PS3, which launched about the same time as the Wii, has sold just 1.84 million units worldwide, while Microsoft has sold more than 10 million Xbox 360 consoles worldwide. The 360, launched in November 2005, had a year head-start over the others. Nintendo now expects to have sold 14 million Wiis by the end of its first fiscal year, March 2008, and has ramped up production to meet the demand.
In comparison, about 22 million GameCubes have been sold since its launch in November 2001. Sony's PS2, which launched in October 2000, has sold more than 106 million units around the world but there is now debate over whether Sony can maintain its dominance over the industry.
The reason for Nintendo's rise is its approach to new consumers and giving them something different, said Fils-Aime.
With its innovative motion-sensing controller, Wii gamers get as close to the action as possible. Players swing the controller like a baseball bat or golf club, leap around their living rooms to make a backhand return in tennis, jab madly away at the air in a boxing bout, and point it at the screen to aim their weapons. Sitting on the couch and pressing buttons just doesn't cut it anymore.
The Wii remote controller is also simple to use. It's based more on gestures than button combinations, so there are very few gadgets on it, making it less intimidating to people who've never played games before.
Nintendo has also taken aim at non-gamers with titles that veer away from the shooters and racers that appeal to males aged 18 to 35.
The game plan is based on the book Blue Ocean Strategy, which suggests that with too many companies fighting for the same consumers, no one can truly grow.
Tomorrow's leading companies will succeed not by battling competitors, the book's authors argue, but by creating "blue oceans" of uncontested market space. In terms of video games, those oceans are teeming with females, seniors and 40- to 50-year-old businessmen.
"We're not just competing with Sony and Microsoft anymore. We're competing with movies and other leisure activities," said Fils-Aime.
Nintendo began feeding non-gamers with Nintendogs, a non-competitive and quirky game that requires people to adopt, care for, and raise a computerized canine companion. It has since put out a series of puzzle games, and a collection of mentally stimulating mini-games to test thinking, memorization, analysis, identification and computation.
Consequently, "the market is changing in unprecedented ways," said Fils-Aime. "There's no question consumers are picking up a controller who've never played before. And these games are becoming a part of everyday life for many of them."
Recent data shows an increase of 127 per cent in people 35 years old and up purchasing a DS device, for which most of the brain games have been produced. The female contingent in that is up 42 per cent.
Another 16 per cent of men over 50 report they play games regularly, while 10 per cent of women over 50 are also regular users.
The pattern of consumers purchasing video games is also changing. Sales usually slump right after Christmas and flat-line through spring and summer.
Instead, Wii and DS sales in January 2007 were nearly 50 per cent of the Christmas rush. The DS actually sold out of stock.
"To witness such incredible demand during a traditionally slow sales period is solid proof that Canadians have embraced Nintendo's vision of what video gaming can be," noted Bertram. "Our goal of expanding the market to include players of all ages and levels of experience with fun, pick-up-and-play systems and games continues to be a resounding success."
More brain training games will be rolled out over the next few months, for both the DS and Wii. The core gamers are not being forgotten, either, with the release of Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Party 8, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Battalion Wars 2. There are more than 40 titles in all genres coming out between June and September.
"Whether you're a hard core gamer or a first time player, it all boils down to fun," said Fils-Aime.

New Zelda Phantom Hourglass Screens
Latest shots of the biggest DS game this year!
Here are some great new screenshots of perhaps the most eagerly anticipated DS game of the year: The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
The screens are taken from the Japanese version of the game (due for release in June) and show Link battling enemies with his sword, sailing on the high seas and sneakinga round some dungeons. There are also some images taken from the brilliant cut-scenes
With its charming Wind Waker-style visuals, Phantom Hourglass is probably the best looking DS game ever and, after completing Twilight Princess, Nintendo fans will be looking forward to getting stuck into Link's latest adventure.

So you've heard about the Wiimotes smashing an expensive TV set, walls or even people. Then a flood gate of cases and rubber silicon gloves were being sold. Well, Elecom has taken it a step further to ensure that your wet slipper butterfinger hands doesnt let go of that remote. They have added a strap to the back of the cover to ensure that the Wiimote does not fall and slip out.
Clicking on the link below will also show you three other covers that they will be releasing. One is a cover but instead of a strap, it has grooves for better gripping. Another cover features an opening for the battery compartment. This is great for easy access to batteries rather than having to remove or lift the cover. This may also be helpful for those rechargeable battery packs with special battery door covers.
No price has been announced or a way to order but they will be available in three different colors: Clear, Black and Blue.

News from Sasq
Since I have no time to work on my hombrew projects at the moment, I release the source here:
http://www.nightmode.org/pogo/
Basically its a dump of my subversion tree that should allow you to compile Dungeon Crawl and glkpogo for both PC and NDS. Hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to fix it so that libpogo (which both crawl and glkpogo uses) uses devkitarm r20 and DLDI for instance.
There's some documentation in the archive, check trunk/README first.
Cheers,

News/release from Murfy:
The principle is simple: Petzy brings a ball to the box “departure” and is placed at the box “been able” to await it. At the end of a certain time of reflexion (variable according to the level), the ball falls and rebounded on the various shutters or portions from wall which it meets. With you to direct the shutters so that the ball arrives at good port. Only one possible exit: that indicated by the arrow. Any other exit is final… In a general way, only the shutters of color can be modified. But attention, except the purple shutters, they are not directed inevitably in all the directions! To modify their orientation, use the stylet. Their orientation can be modified when the ball is moving (it is even sometimes highly recommended…). If you find that the time of reflexion is too long, you can launch the ball when good seems to you while pressing on any key. Will extras: * Holes: when the ball falls into a hole, it arises from it by the other hole and according to the same direction * Keys: on certain levels, the exit will be stopped. You will have to recover the number of keys indicated to be able to open the door * The extraballe: contrary to the flipper, the extraballe is not your friend! This one moves according to the orientation of the shutters and the portions of wall and when it strikes your white ball, and well… you guess very well what occurs… Ah yes! I forgot! When the extraballe is red, in addition to rebounding, it modifies the orientation of the mobile shutters (and while one is there, when it passes on a key, the key changes place…). This version comprises only 15 levels. If you would like to see some more, do not hesitate to ask it.
