Nintendo's Virtual Console is abubble and apunch with new releases once again this Friday as Bubble Bobble and The King of Fighters '94 arrive for download unassisted by additional made-up adjectives.
Bubble Bobble is the NES version of Taito's fondly remembered platform game, and therefore costs 500 Wii Points (approx GBP 3.50 / EUR 5), and sees players popping and pushing bubbles in the dinosauric roles of Bub and Bob, complete with two-player mode and - even more of a blast from the past - a password system for saving your progress! No expense spent! Gawp in amazement at the Bubble Bobble Virtual Console screenshot gallery for additional excitement.
Meanwhile, The King of Fighters '94 is a NeoGeo game and therefore comes with a bizarrely huge 900 Wii-Point price-tag (that's approximately GBP 6.30 / EUR 9), and allows you to beat one another up using characters from various of SNK's other fighting series including Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury and Ikari Warriors. We've got a King of Fighters '94 screenshot gallery too, you know.
Watch out for official verdicts from official Virtual Console Roundup man Dan Whitehead tomorrow.

With its dominance currently being felt the world over (though maybe not perhaps quite as strongly as it once was in Japan) Nintendo’s powerhouse console the Wii is celebrating another record success – this time in Australia.
The machine has just become the fastest console to reach the 200,000 sales mark, doing so after 50 weeks on sale.
This feat beats both the PS2 and DS, which both took 55 weeks to reach the same milestone, Gamespot reports.
In contrast, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 took 68 weeks to hit the same milestone. Sony’s PS3, which launched in the territory in March, recently passed the 100,000 barrier

MorganDS has again updated his Rubiks Cube game for DS:
I made a quite a bit of progress on my Rubik's cube the last couple of days. In addition to the twelve turning functions, you can now rotate the whole cube by pressing left or right. And I've added graphics.
I also changed how the top and bottom sides are oriented on the screen so that it makes a little more sense.

SeikoTheWiz a coder over at our friends Playeradvance forums has now released his new game for the DS
Heres the screen:
Heres a description of what DOTA is from the Wiki:
Defense of the Ancients (often referred to as DotA) is a custom map for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for the Blizzard title Starcraft. It is a team strategy game focused on hero combat. The objective is to destroy the opponents' base using one's own Hero along with allied heroes and allied AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". Sharing concepts with role playing games, the player levels up their hero and uses gold to buy equipment in an effort to best the opposing team.
- 0.91: Record version
- 0.91b: path to plant less
- 0.92: patch of moveToAttack
- 0.93: Now you can kill the turrets and creeps attack automatically.

HMV has told GamesIndustry.biz that the Nintendo Wii is selling out within minutes of going on sale, as consumer appetite for the console continues to massively outstrip supply.
The High Street retailer is confident it receives a fair share of stock as Nintendo does its best to meet demand, but admits to a frustration in not being able to fulfil customer's needs.
"Our store on Oxford Street had a delivery last week and it sold out in 34 minutes," revealed Tim Ellis, HMV's head of games. "That gives you an idea of how many we could actually sell."
"We're selling out so quickly at the moment it's frustrating for all parties concerned and it's the same everywhere. If we weren't getting any stock and everyone else was we'd be crying about it but we seem to be getting our fair share," he said.
Software for Nintendo's home console is also enjoying healthy sales, and it's not just the big first-party titles such as Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda doing good numbers.
"Nintendo games are genuinely good, but I think third-parties are starting to catch up," said Ellis.
"Companies like Sega, with Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Boogie from EA, Cooking Mama, some of the Ubisoft titles like My Word Coach – they aren't selling as well as Brain Training but it all adds up to a healthy market.
"The volumes on the hardware are such that it's now worthwhile for publishers to make the extra effort of working with the Wii," he added.
The full interview with Ellis, where he also discusses the performance of the PlayStation 3 and other software in the run up to Christmas, can be read here.

We knew it was just a matter of time before something like this happened, particularly with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed headed to the Wii next Spring, but it's good to see a lightsaber attachment come early.
Available to order now through Play.com, this third-party accessory sports a power up / down effect to get your saber a-glowin' (and dimmed back down), 22 ultra-bright LEDs and an on / off switch for good measure. The adornment relies on a trio of AA cells to stay lit, and while it isn't slated to ship until later this month, you can commence searching for an extra £14.99 ($31) right away.

Nintendo is planning an optional update to its Wii Photo Channel this December which will, if downloaded, replace MP3-music playback compatibility with support of the AAC audio format. In addition, gamers will be able to personalize their Wii Menu by replacing the Photo Channel icon with a digital picture of their own.
Writes Nintendo on its official website: "Consumers with MP3 compatible Photo Channels will have the option of updating their Photo Channel to version 1.1, which replaces MP3 compatibility with the ability to play AAC files. AAC files provide a greater sound quality than an MP3 of the same size. This new compatibility will work with MP4 audio files in the .m4a format. Additionally, you can now choose to have the songs play back in a random order."
Any Wii consoles sold after December will automatically feature the latest version of Photo Channel. Gamers who already own the console will have the option to install the new update.
"Please note that once the Photo Channel has been updated to version 1.1, the channel will no longer be able to play MP3 format music files," writes Nintendo. However, this update will not have any bearing on in-game playback of MP3 music. "Wii games that currently have features which use MP3 music files will continue to use the MP3 file format. These Wii games will not be compatible with the AAC files," the company adds.

So, Mario and Sonic's first game together lands this Friday, after years of playground scuffles over which character is better.
Sega is confident the Olympic match-up is going to be a multi-million seller, and rightly so because, as well as the inevitable boost it'll get from next year's sporting event, it's pretty good fun, as you can read in this review.
In the direct-feed footage viewable in our video player, we take you through a selection of track and field events, as well as shooting and swimming. Then we finish off with Mario and Sonic throwing the platforming squabbles aside and just getting down to the nitty gritty: stabbing each other in the chest in a fencing face-off.
Oh, and the flashy intro video is in here too, for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

Nintendo has revealed that Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii sold over 500,000 units in its first week of sale in the US.
"Super Mario Galaxy had the strongest one-week debut of any Wii game to date and has also become the best-selling Mario title ever in its first week, with US sales of more than 500,000, based on internal sales figures," commented George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing.
Released in Europe last Friday, the game debuted at number five in the UK all-formats charts, although the Chart Track data only accounts for the first two days of sale in the region.

Americaland Nintendo has confirmed that it will be launching two new special edition DS bundles on Friday in the States - but Nintendo Europe says there are "no plans" to release them here.
The new bundles - one for Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and one for the Best Friends version of Nintendogs - each come with a specially printed DS model.
My birthday's next weekend, by the way.
The Zelda one (pictured, unless I've forgotten) is gold with a Triforce logo in one corner, while the Nintendogs one is pink with a footprint in the same position. Neither is as nice as my red and black one, so ner.
Although neither version is available in Europe, we do have a choice of white, black, pink and silver.
The new DS bundles will go on sale in the US for USD 149.99, which saves a few "dollars", which you could then spend on Slitherlink or Picross DS if you're any kind of human.
