Nintendo has said that the Virtual Console service for Wii has so far generated JPY 3.5 billion (USD 33 million / EUR 22.3 million [£15m]) for the company.
Shinji Hatano, licensing director for Nintendo, revealed the figure during a recent press conference to mark a collaboration with NTT for broadband internet access for the home console, reports IGN.
According to Nintendo, 7.8 million items have been downloaded over the service, which offers old games from Nintendo and other publisher's back catalogues, priced between EUR 5 and EUR 10.

According to this week's Famitsu, Sega has announced plans to release Culdcept for Nintendo DS. The game is currently being developed by Omiya Soft, who handled the previous versions of Culdcept.
New cards will be introduced in the DS version, alongside revised ones from the past. Battles and trading with other players is possible through both the wireless and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection features. "There are over 370 card types including new ones. Some of the new cards will also be quite powerful ones," said Omiya Soft producer Hideo Suzuki to Famitsu.
Additionally, Culdcept veteran Satoshi Nakai, who has designed the cards since the first game, will again handle card illustration.
Fans of previous Culdcept games should be happy, as Omiya Soft is using those versions as a base line for the DS title. "Culdcept DS will be based on the PlayStation 2 version 'Culdcept 2: Expansion,' with adjustments made on the overall game balance and revision on the card's abilities," said Suzuki. "Also, the basic rules are easier to understand even for beginners since we have added what was implemented in the Dreamcast version 'Culdcept Second.'"
Culdcept DS is slated for a 2008 release in Japan.

Jeff has released a new version of his Rogue clone for the Nintendo DS and GBA, heres whats new:
*Another quick release as I try to keep the momentum going to the elusive version 100.
When you are prompted to cast a spell you cam hit [SELECT] or [i] or [?] to get help on that spell. (Arthur Littlefield)
Eating a book temporarily grants you the spells/skills in the book. (Fancy Carrot)
Gold Beetles are now hostile if you are wearing anything they want.
If timed unchanging expires the same turn as stoning takes effect, there is no longer the risk that the unchanging will expire first and thus turn you to stone. (Yes, this happened to me.)
All creatures will now eat if they are not full, not just special ones like gelatinous cubes.
Hungry creatures will pick up food that they can eat.
RNG seed saved to hiscore table so starting games on the GBA should become more varied.
Torches and flamingswords are extinguished by dropping into water.
More consistent behaviour of lava/greekfire/acid/water with item interaction.
New spells: Wizard's Eye, Possess.
Artifact armour that has a melee attack will now allow you to attack appropriately on occasion. Ie, a head butt, punch, or kick with the helmet, ring, or boots. Improvised Weapons skill will greatly increase the chance of this happening.
One more room.
Leech the right version:
Gameboy Advance [382k].
Nintendo DS [735k].

New from Play Asia
Naruto Shippuden: Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX 2 is the sixth installment of the popular Naruto Ninja Taisen (aka. Clash of Ninja) series. This is the first Naruto Shippuden game to feature time-skip Sasuke Uchiha as a playable character. New characters include Sasuke Uchiha, Sai, Yamato, and the return of others like Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya. Characters such as Hinata Hyuuga, Kiba Inuzuka, Shino Aburame, Chouji Akimichi, Shikamaru Nara and Asuma Sarutobi will be returning in their time-skip forms.
Two new features, "Danger Zones" and a hand seal function are included in the game. The first, "Danger Zones", are hazards on stages that can hurt the player's character when encountered (for example, spikes on cliff walls). The second feature included is a new hand seal mechanism, which can be used by the player to raise their character's attack power or health.

Nintendo of America has set a new sales record by selling more products during the Thanksgiving week than at any other time in the company's history.
During the period November 18 to November 24, over 653,000 DS units were sold, smashing the previous record of 600,000 Game Boy Advance consoles sold in 2005.
A further 350,000 Wii home systems were also snapped up by Christmas shoppers, along with "millions of games and accessories".
"As shoppers look for ways to maximize their limited holiday spending money, they turn to gifts that can be used by the entire family," commented George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications.
"Wii and Nintendo DS offer something for every member of the family. They're the most fun video game experiences at the most affordable price."

Nintendo and telecoms operator NTT announced that they would cooperate to promote the broadband Internet access of the Wii in Japan.
According to a Reuter's report, Nintendo and NTT's two regional units, NTT East and NTT West, will start operating call centers jointly this week to provide consultation and support for the Wii's Internet connection.
They will also offer a start-up package which provides equipment for Web access, on-site set up, and other services for Wii users.
"I hope our fibre-optic service becomes as popular as the Wii," NTT East senior executive vice president Tetsuo Koga told a news conference on Wednesday.
"I think we have won a powerful ally to hit our target to boost fiber-optic subscribers to 20 million by the year ending March 2011."
Nintendo plans to launch WiiWare in Japan next March, allowing users to purchase new titles via the Internet. The company has sold 13.2 million Wii consoles worldwide as of the end of September.
NTT's two regional units had 6.1 million fibre-optic subscribers as of March 2007.

There's no supply conspiracy, says NoA boss
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted that the shortage of Wii units are retail is a missed opportunity for the company.
And he dismissed the conspiracy theory that Nintendo is holding back stock to drive demand, saying such a move would be counterintuitive to the audience it is trying to sell to.
"At this point we are literally trying to catch up with demand," said Fils-Aime, in an interview with news.com.
"There is no secret plan to store Wiis in a warehouse to spur demand. The company, after all, is trying to reach out to women and 40 and 50-year olds who aren't avid gamers."
"They aren't going to sleep outside of a store overnight or visit a retailer five or six times. It is literally a missed opportunity," he said.
Although the Wii is being snatched up just as fast as Nintendo can supply units to retail – with HMV last week telling GamesIndustry.biz that the console is selling out within minutes – it hasn't stopped the company from clocking up massive sales numbers.
During the Thanksgiving period last week, Nintendo sold over 350,000 Wiis in the US.

We're not exactly sure why folks aren't as inclined to create confections, earrings and door unlockers with those other controllers, but something about the Wiimote just brings out the craftsman in DIY'ers at large. This go 'round, Craig has constructed a functioning cabinet that closely resembles Nintendo's heralded controller. Unfortunately, we have all ideas that it won't actually enable you to participate in any Mario Party 8 mini-games, but considering that there's no wrist strap tacked on the bottom, we wouldn't recommend whirling this about, anyway.
