GameTrailers has uncovered a whole buttload of Japanese videos for Wii Fit that show off some previously unknown game modes. A snowboarding game, shown above, has the player turn the board perpendicular to the screen and lean left and right to navigate a simple slalom course. For those less inclined to "X-TREME" sports, the jogging mini-game simulates the, er, thrilling world of jogging, complete with fellow joggers to keep pace with. Interestingly, the beginning of the jogging video shows a Wii remote being placed in a pocket, possibly to detect vertical movement (and setting up a surprising answer to the old query, "Is that a Wii remote in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?")
An extended Japanese trailer for the game shows more scenes from the above game modes, as well as some short snippets of a previously unknown tightrope-walking game and some sort of boxing trainer.

Reputable European publication Edge magazine is reporting that the upcoming Animal Crossing for Nintendo Wii is indeed going the MMO route, as previously rumored by fellow Future Publishing siblings Next-Gen. "A Japanese source has confirmed to Edge that the upcoming Wii iteration of Animal Crossing is set to be a social networking MMO," reports the magazine.
No other details are known at the time, Nintendo has not provided any official confirmation. The article is found on page nine of the latest issue, which prominently features the PlayStation 3 on both the front and back covers.

In the fourth volume of the ongoing series of interviews between Nintendo's Iwata and the Mario Galaxy team, design legend Shigeru Miyamoto puts forth the opinion that he thinks he's nailed two-player Mario . That opinion is bolstered by Japanese sales figures, which shows the plumber doing quite well for his umpteenth outing.
"Miyamoto: 'For every game I worked on, there were always times when I would keep discussing the issue of two-player simultaneous gameplay, and the staff also became conscious of the challenge, so every development team kept trying hard to solve it too. Though I think that might also have been because they thought if they didn't deal with it first, I'd come in and ask how it was coming along for sure! (laughs)'"

Alekmaul has updated his Atari 800XL emulator for Nintendo DS
Heres info and screenshot etc:

Small update because it seems that the joystick was a worry in the previous version ... Sorry ...
Here is an Atari 800 XL emulator for DS!
This emulator is based on atari800 ( http://atari800.sourceforge.net/) to emulate all components of the Atari.
History
The family XL was introduced by the model 1200xl. But its incompatibility with the veterans 400 and 800 made him quickly obsolete. It was the 600XL and 800XL, built in 1983, which could make the most extensive libraries of their predecessors. He succeeded in atari 400 (1979), the atari 800 (1979), the 1200 XL (1982), and 600 XL (1983).
The 600XL was the model entry level, with 16K of RAM, expandable to 64. The 800XL came with 64k of RAM. The big differences with the ancestors were linked to the memory and the operating system.
But Commodore, with the C64, practiced aggressive prices and took advantage. The trouble began for Atari at the beginning of 1984, with the boom of video game consoles.
The problems associated with the new production lines have delayed the entry of the machine on the market. Originally intended to replace the 1200XL in mid-83, the machines did not arrive before the end of 1983, and far fewer machines than expected were available during the Christmas period 1983.
Nevertheless, the 800XL is the most popular computer sold by Atari. The 1400XL and 1450XLD saw their delivery date postponed to give priority to the Atari 600XL/800XL and later by the system 3600. Ultimately, the 1400XL was eventually canceled outright, and 1450XLD delayed until also be canceled. The XE System was the answer to the soft Japanese. Without success.
We must also know that we could connect to the chain via a large square, a floppy drive, tape, printer, and so on. The USB hour before then. This is called pseudo USB then ORC.

Alex has posted a new version of his Puzzle game collection for the DS
For this new beta version, a new feature: the Hall of fame!
The hall of fame replaces the old ‘high scores’ page.
The hall of fame is divided in 4 rankings for each game/each level:
Since the beginning of Puzzlemaniak
Since midnight (GMT)
Since the last 7 days(GMT)
Since the last 30 days(GMT)
The hall of fame stores the 20 best scores of each game/level.
That’s also the case of the Global Ranking, that is now computed for the 20 first players on each game/level (and scores are thus balanced to 200 instead of 100).
I hope you’ll enjoy this new version.
Warning: As this version modifies your score file, please backup it before trying this beta version…

Doom creator John Carmack believes the DS would make a great proving ground for upstart programmers if only platform holders didn't stifle homebrew development.
"It is a shame that homebrew development can't be officially sanctioned and supported, because it would be a wonderful platform for a modern generation of programmers to be able to get a real feel for low level design work," Carmack told IGN in an interview about Orcs & Elves, "to be contrasted with the high level web and application work that so many entry level people start with."
Carmack took a similar route to creating Orcs & Elves, id Software's upcoming Nintendo DS game - created as a collaboration between Carmack and Fountainhead Software.
As he explained at QuakeCon 2007, he got the 3D code that underpins the game up and running in four days during one of his "working retreats" - where he locks himself in a hotel room for two weeks with no internet connection "for completely focused work".
Unofficial homebrew solutions do exist for DS, using flash cards for storage, but they're not supported by Nintendo because of the potential for piracy.

Capcom has recorded modest sales growth for the first half of 2007, with revenues of JPY 31.1 billion (EUR 188.2 m), up 6.6 per cent for the period ended September 30.
However, net income was down to JPY 1.6 billion (EUR 9.6 m) or 16.3 per cent, with the company's arcade revenue dropping 68.9 per cent from JPY 4.3 billion (EUR 26m) to JPY 1.4 billion (EUR 8.4m) for the first six months of the year.
Console software was the key performer for Capcom, with the publisher singling out Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and the 500,000-selling Apollo Justice Ace Attorney.
"This business segment was a pleasant surprise with the achievement of sales far exceeding our projection," said the company.
"One of the supporting factors for this result was the strong sales of the popular Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition mainly in the US and Europe."
Capcom expects to achieve JPY 78 billion (EUR 471.9m) in net revenue for the full year ending March 31, 2008, and JPY 6.2 billion (EUR 37.5m) in net income.

We've seen a couple pretty press photos of the forthcoming DS 1seg TV tuner, but nothing beats video -- and the Japanese promo video unearthed by the crew at Gamebrink delivers the goods in spades.
Apart from the usual orientation and aspect ratio settings, the tuner has some neat extra features -- you can take notes on one screen while watching on the other, and it also can be set to take screenshots whenever the closed captioning changes, allowing you to flip through a show like a picture book later.
Japanese DS fans can get their hands on the 1seg tuner starting on the 23rd, according to Gamebrink. Check the whole video right here.

Unlike the official Nintendo Wii lightgun accessory that has the trigger up in the front hand—which is more awkward than Frankenstein dancing—the dreamGEAR Wii GameBlaster has only one trigger, and it's in the back. Also unlike the official gun, it takes in both the Wiimote and the Nunchuk controller and connects the two without visible wires. This actually looks better than the real thing, and if you can somehow reprogram the trigger button in-game to be on the Nunchuk instead of on the Wiimote, you've got yourself the optimal zombie shooting experience.

Super Mario Galaxy might not be out until next week but all the reviews are pretty much in. It's a hit with the critics! According to almost every review it is the game Wii owners have been waiting for (but please don't forget about Zack and Wiki, if only for the sake of third-party support). Galaxy is apparently the evolution of the platformer and Wii owners will only need to wait a little bit longer -- unless they get lucky.
Game Informer (98/100): "Galaxy also makes great use of the Wii's motion-sensing controls. While Mario's general movement is handled beautifully on the nunchuk's analog stick, many feats require a shake of the remote or a steady pointing hand. If you have a second Wii remote, you can also experience one of the coolest and most inventive non-traditional co-op modes in any game. The second player doesn't control a character, but rather a star. This player can pick up collectible items, and can also freeze enemies or projectiles in their tracks, which can be a great aid."
GameSpot (95/100): "You could probably swap in just about any other characters from practically any other franchise, and this would still be a phenomenally fun game. That it layers all these memorable characters and components on top of that phenomenal design just makes it all the sweeter. If ever there were a must-own Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy is it."
1UP (95/100): "Galaxy is one of the most impressive, engrossing games in recent memory -- and quite the contrast to the rest of this year's triple-A gaming crop, which tends toward the dark, the M-rated, and the first-person perspective. Gaming may be growing up (per se), but gamers will always appreciate beautifully polished gameplay and inventive design...even if it's sugarcoated with squeaky baby stars and a goofy cartoon of a hero. Galaxy proves that Mario matters just as much today as he did 25 years ago, and that makes him one of a kind in this medium. But don't play Galaxy simply because Mario is the timeless godfather of gaming. No, play Galaxy because it's fantastic.."

November 8th, 2007, 20:17 Posted By: Shrygue
via Games Industry
Eidos' chief technology officer, Julien Merceron, has told GamesIndustry.biz that he believes this Christmas could prove crucial to the long term success of Nintendo's Wii platform.
According to Merceron if third party titles don't sell well it will lead to a dive in the support for the console.
"Either third party developers and publishers will make money on the Wii platform, or they won't - and if most of them don't I think we'll see a big drop in support for the Wii next year, which could have some consequences for Nintendo, and very positive ones for Microsoft and Sony," he said.
"So I think that the success of the Wii from the different publishers is going to be the determining point this Christmas…if you can't make money at Christmas on the best platform out there, then you have no chance all year long."
The comments come in an interview ahead of GDC Lyon, which is taking place in the first week of December. The full interview is available now.

Looks like potential Wii owners are going to have to judge the system exclusively based on its gaming (and photo management, internet, weather, and so-on) functionality for the time being. Nintendo Japan has posted a message at the Q&A section of its site stating that the promised DVD-ready Wii won't make it out in 2007.
As reason for not introducing the new model this year, the company cited a need to need to maintain effective production in order to keep up with worldwide demand for the Wii.
This DVD-ready system would basically be just like the current Wii, except with the ability to play DVDs. According to the Q&A, it would have no external changes to the hardware or any other added functionality.
Rather than stating that the product has been canceled, the Q&A states merely that it won't be released in 2007. Perhaps we can look forward to the advanced model next year.
