News/release from Wizlon:
Another week, another version. There are actually a few more bits and bobs I wanted to fit into this version, nameley background and font loading off SD, but I got a flash of brilliance yesterday and decided to add and entirely new feature. I figured it would take me a week or so to get it working how I wanted it to, so I better release a new version now.
So what have we got then? I’ve fixed a bug or two, making sure right handed now default. I’ve vastly improved the file navigation with the inclusion of a handy dandy selected file bar, this also works in the options menu so you can see what your current settigns are. I’ve also improved the edit screen a bit so you can now scroll up and down the document, it’s still not prefect, but until saving is working it doesn’t really need to be. The big new improvment is the MOD player I’ve thrown in, this is kind of a precursor to the MP3 player which will turn up one day, I added it so people can jam along to MOD drum loops, of which there doesn’t seem to be many :_( if you find any then give me a shout. Anyway, look out for big things next version. Laters.

You may have hoped that with the ho-hum new release week, we'd find some respite in the new Virtual Console releases. ... Well, no dice. Let's take a look, shall we?
Double Dribble (NES, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Is a police officer banging on your door like he's trying to serve a warrant? No! That's just the sound of the ball bouncing in Double Dribble, silly. For 500 points you can play a game that manages to be both a basketball simulation and a mental endurance test. Yippee!
Vegas Stakes (Super NES, 1-4 players, 800 Wii Points): Dear videogame industry: The next time you're going to work on a game that would would require people pay $8 to play SNES blackjack, don't. Why not go volunteer your time at a homeless shelter? Side note: If your grandma is one of the Wii's legion of old fans, you may want to let her know about this casino sim. Maybe it'll keep her out of the bingo halls.
Ecco Jr. (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): If your kid has never been able to master simultaneously pushing a button to make a dolphin swim and being totally bored, you can probably go ahead and blow those college savings on a Lamborghini. But at least now there's a game on Virtual Console made especially for them.

Its laughable how unhip the mainstream is, heres a newspost from gibiz
R4 chip for DS goes on sale in Akihabara and internet for around GBP 25
Nintendo faces a new threat from piracy this Christmas, as the R4 chip for the DS handheld becomes one the most sought after items in Tokyo's Akihabara electronics district.
Described by The Times Online as Nintendo's "Christmas stocking filler from Hell," the R4 costs around GBP 25 and bypasses the DS security system allowing users to play illegally cracked games and other material.
Reacting to the sale of the R4, a Nintendo spokesperson said: "We are keeping a close eye on the products and studying them. But we cannot smash them all."
According to The Times, many retailers are cryptically advertising the chip with signs reading, "New R4 shipment has finally arrived! You know what it does! Absolutely no questions will be answered concerning this product."
Sale of the chip – believed to be manufactured in China – is not strictly illegal, but what the users does with it is.
A quick internet search by GamesIndustry.biz reveals multiple websites openly selling the chip for around GBP 25.
Im sure the R4 has been around for at least 6months already :P

Updated from Foxy:
Having done Goldrunner which had not convinced all critics of the time because of its vertical scroll, Steve Bak developed this title in 9 months with Pete Lyon, which was a pearl technique en matiere de horizontal scrolling on the Atari ST.
History:
25.11.2007:
Added minimap.
Addition of gunfire.
Adding objects on the minimap.
24.11.2007:
Adding collision with decors.
Adding scientists.
How to play:
For the moment, right and left, and scroll to start to change the map.
Other information:
In the beginning I had in mind to bring Goldrunner II, but it is only a pale copy of the original title. For many Return to Genesis is true.
In this port, no big challenge because the GBA in terms of scrolling and management layers is much more powerful than the Atari, but it allowed me to refine my tools rip graphics on atari and my routines and sprites tiles
On the Atari version (and maybe Amiga), the game is unplayable because a little too fast, I hope that I could improve a little ca on the GBA version.

simonjhall the excellent coder who has brought an amazing port of Quake to the Nintendo DS has today gave some details of his work of bringing Quake 2 to the DS, heres the details:
Ok, just an update on this (dunno why I'm doing this!)
Thought I'd get off my arse this weekend and check out the Q2 code on my PC. I've not done a lot of work on it in the last six months, besides fix the load times. They were so slow that working on it is completely unproductive, as you've gotta sit around and surf the net for three minutes until you can get it to crash again!
Anyway, here's some info for those who care
- the game now takes about a minute to load (once the program has started)
- the world is now rendered with the DS' 3D hardware; the framerate looks very playable
- I'm an inch away from getting texturing in
- no models, GUI, etc
- the proper palettes are in (hence I can now nearly texture), as are the game fonts
- I've got the RAM usage down to a pretty low level. The existing system required an MMU and (virtually) allocated memory in a crazy way. One problem I had before I sorted this out was that I could *just* squeeze a demo into 32 + 4 megs. After looking into it I realised that 70% of that memory was actually going to waste! The *demos* ought to run in ~10 meg of RAM now.
- it's 8-bit write hell, and I'm gonna have to go strb hunting to sort that out!
No promises, but there's a chance I may actually work on this properly :-)

MorganDS has again updated his Rubiks Cube game for DS:
I've created a pseudo-3D cube on the bottom screen. I also fixed a bug in the down and down inverse turning functions. Use the touchscreen icons to turn different sides of the cube, the left and right arrows to rotate the whole cube, and Start to reset the cube. In the final version, I will hopefully have a real 3D cube, as well as more rotation functions and other nice features. I will probably not release another version for download until the final version..

marovada has updated Wee Basic with a new release, heres the details:
version 0.3
fixed:
- editor: return key swallowing a character
- editor: hopefully fixed remaining save bugs
added/changed:
- basic programs now have access to both DS screens and stylus input
- hide or show keyboard with commands 'keyhide' and 'keyshow'
- you must hide the keyboard before printing to, or using graphics on, the bottom screen
- cls, print, plot and line can now be used on both DS screens. You must specify a screen number. Syntax is now (s= screen number 0 or 1):
print s [at x,y] <string or variable>
plot s x,y,colour
line s x1,y1,x2,y2,colour
cls s
(s = screen number 0 or 1)
- stylus coordinates can be obtained using stx() and sty()
eg, let sx=stx() let sxy=sty()
- check whether bottom screen has been touched with stt()
eg, let touched=stt()
stt() returns 1 for touched and 0 for not touched
- new example showing the above features
