Remember back when Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Cross Generation of Heroes was rumored to be for Wii? All of that started because of some machine translation from a Japanese site that included a bit of Wii talk. Now we have the full details of just how this game came to be for Wii, and how Capcom is working with Nintendo-related technology in arcades.
Though the console media was quick to report the Namco statement that they felt the Nintendo Wii was crippling the arcade scene, few reported the fact that Nintendo has been investing heavily in the amusement scene. Since the 2002 agreement between SEGA, Namco and Nintendo, to develop the TriForce (based on the then GameCube console platform), the company has continued to be involved with amusement development – most recently the TriForce was used to power ‘Mario Kart Arcade GP 2’ for the arcade sector. Recently revealed at the Japanese amusement machine trade exhibition this month, Capcom showed ‘Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Cross Generation of Heroes’, their latest brawler – but along with this launch, the company revealed that the game was running on architecture based on the Nintendo Wii. Rumored to be similar to the TriForce platform, the new system offers a low cost route to market for Capcom, and also ensures that the planned home release of the game will be a direct conversion to the home platform. Information is still patchy on the release plans for the new hardware, and if like other Capcom releases will be supported by online network support.
Huge thanks to TheStingerReport for the heads up!

News from Retrohead
After a bit of a setback with my PC (vundo virus infection) and yet another format (I only done it 3 days ago!), I am pleased to announce version 0.3 alpha of Take The Eggs! is ready for distribution.
There are quite a few things new in this version and I have spent alot of time working out the kinks that plagued the previous version. Most notable is the new implementation of a modified VRAM update system which I can't help but thank DarkEz for his help with tearing the PAlib function apart which has helped drastically improve the game in more areas than one. Due to this new implementation, the game now has absolutely zero 3D sprite flicker and also is so much improved that I have been able to substitute the awful RAW music files for much cleaner 64kbps MP3 files.
Also added in this version are visible score counters to help show you how much points are being gained / lost. Please bear in mind that when you drop off a baby in another players pen, the score that is displayed is the effect on the players score that the pen belongs to. This is still currently a little confusing without the manual that I am still waiting for Triforce to finish (you deserve the public shame now lol) but this should be a little clearer now.
Finally on to the gameplay additions. No AI improvements since the last version but I have now included a new enemy on World 1 to give you a bit more of a hard time and also a whole new world for you to play which also includes enemies (those scorpions can give you a bit of a nightmare, mwahaha).
** Changes For v0.3a **
Fixed the layer problem with the TV in character / world select.
Improved 3D VRAM updates (Big thanks to DarkEz for the help).
No more sprite flicker due to the new VRAM updates.
New 3D Sprite system now allows for MP3 music in game. This could not be implemented before due to the amount of flicker it caused.
Few new SFX added courtesy of the extra RAM space available by using MP3.
Smoother rotation on the stage select reel.
Implemented world specific SFX.
Added enemy to world 1. Don't let him get you!
Visual notification of the scores being gained / lost.
Invisible fried egg bug should now be fixed (reports welcomed).
World 3 is now unlocked for all to enjoy!
** To do list **
Add 4 more characters.
Story between worlds.
Final configuration of the remaining five worlds.
Add secrets menu, this will include the level creator aswell as some other nice additions I have been thinking about.

A new trailer's turned up for Strawdog Studios' Wii puzzler Geon, which debuted on Xbox Live Arcade last year.
The Wii version sports all of the content from the XBLA version plus four-player split-screen multiplayer, 16 new 'duel mode' grids and a ton of improvements based on review criticism.
It's definitely a notable release for Wii owners. Unless you've got an Xbox.
The latest trailer demonstrates the 'Bliss' powerball, which allows players to create three extra 'ghost' cubes that help collect pellets, which is the aim of the game.
Have a watch on the bottom right and you should be able to figure it out.

via Gizmodo US
This allegedly leaked photo of new Nintendo DS screens has played a game of Google Translate telephone before making its way to Giz wearing red sox and green hair, but from what we can make from the source, the big difference in the updated display is a shift in screen size from 3 inches to 3.25 inches. It's still not a widescreen system like many of us would prefer, but then again, the alteration shouldn't mess with the aspect ratio of existing DS titles, either.

Square Enix will be bringing Disgaea DS to Europe in spring 2009.
This squashed down instalment in the strategical role-playing series comes with a fancy Wi-Fi duel mode. There are loads of multiplayer options to tweak in there, plus the option to trade with friends.
Geo Cubes also make an appearance, and can enhance abilities, summon monsters or even attack enemies for that extra layer of tactical depth.
Disgaea DS was released in August over in the US, where critics have awarded decent marks to the game. It also follows on the back of Disgaea PSP, which just happened to be marvellous.
Head over to our Disgaea DS gallery for an idea of what to expect.

After months and months of speculation and rumor from all corners of the internet and beyond, downloadable content for the Wii version of Rock Band 2 has been confirmed. USA Today reports that the functionality has indeed been confirmed, and with the release of Rock Band 2, Wii owners will finally be able to spend the massive amounts of cash Xbox 360 and PS3 owners have been spending for the past year.
While unannounced, MTV Games has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Wii version of ``Rock Band 2'' will offer the same online functionality — i.e. song downloads and Internet multiplayer modes — as the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 versions. The PS2 version, however, will not include online connectivity.
I suppose the Wii's online capabilities and potential have finally been fully realized. Oh happy day!
UPDATE: Harmonix has confirmed with us that the Wii version will support both DLC and online play, and there was much rejoicing.

From the looks of it, the game will stay faithful to the 2D series. The game is being developed by the team who made Castlevanai: Portrait of Ruin, along with Koji Igarashi, the assistant director of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Knock yourself out with the movie below (and to the right a little).

After Japan's mainstream newspaper Nikkei announced a new DS with a camera, music player and enhanced wireless functionality, Nintendo had to say something in response. To gaming magazine Famiitsu:
We are always developing new products. However, since nothing has been announced officially, we are unable to comment at this time. That's the most softly delivered "no comment" that I've ever seen. But take it as you will.

God, this just keeps getting better. We thought that last week was the best example of a known quantity trying to sneak its creepy friend past the bouncer and into Club WiiWare, but it's been absolutely topped.
On the one hand, you have Bomberman Blast (Hudson Entertainment, 1-8 players, 1,000 Wii Points) all decked out in his finest suit. He's making eyes at the ladies and he just bought Cristal for everyone in the club. He's the superstar and he knows it.
Then we have Art Style: ORBIENT (Nintendo, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points) which we can find practically nothing on. Seriously. GoNintendo has a single screen shot and Silicon Era thinks it's a Bit Generations game. And that's it. To continue the above analogy, Art Style: ORBIENT is the equivalent of the Little Rascals standing on each others shoulders in a trench coat, and insisting to the bouncer that they're "a real grownup who just wants to drink all the beer and kiss pretty ladies."
How do they make it inside? It's a mystery.

Before straddling a winged lizard and doing a nosedive, developer Factor 5 was the source of one of our favorite pastimes: the unrelenting obliteration of aliens, robots and the occasional Sasquatch. Our memory's a bit hazy when it comes to Super Turrican 2, so there may well have been a robotic alien Sasquatch in there somewhere.
Super Turrican 2 (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Factor 5's destructive bullet dispensor arrives on the Virtual Console this week, challenging players to foil "the menacing hordes of ... The Machine," who may or may not be Galactus. Check out some videos after the break and become hypnotized by that spinning "2" in "Super Turrican 2." It's like, three dee and stuff!

More on the rumoured new ds from slashdot
Watch out Apple, here comes Nintendo. Nintendo plans to launch a new version of its popular DS portable gaming device with a camera and music player function, according to a report in the Sunday edition of The Nikkei Business Daily. The new version will have better wireless capability for connecting to the Internet and will cost under $189, the report said. It will be offered first in Japan, it said. The DS first went on sale in 2004, and a second version, called the DS Lite, debuted two years later in 2006. Retro game lovers, don't ever say Nintendo isn't looking out for you. Only months after hearing that the Wii's Virtual Console would be getting Sega Master System and Commodore 64 games, in flies word that at least one heralded SuperGrafx title is on its way, too. Granted, the Ghouls 'n Ghosts (or Daimakaimura, as it were) port is only slated for release in Japan at the moment, but we're keeping our increasingly less limber fingers crossed that it'll head to other parts of the world in short order. There's also no telling if any other titles from the console's library will be headed to the Wii, but given that we could count 'em all on two hands, we'd say chances are decently high.

Well, that certainly didn't take long. Along with Wednesday's revelation that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars would include a drug-dealing minigame came a potent tingling of our "controversy-sense" -- said tingle was justified Thursday by an article in the British tabloid The Sun, titled Fury Over Drug Deal Vid Game. In the article, Darren Gold, speaking on behalf of UK support group Drugsline, called out the title for its "glamorization" of drug-dealing and "substance misuse".
In related, breaking news, Rockstar may thoroughly enjoy the game-selling hype that arises from this kind of controversy. More at eleven!

Lazy1 just posted this over at GBAdev:
Soooo....
The project died for quite a while, but I managed to locate my source!
I was worried since I could not find it and my latest build had an "exploding hitler" feature.
For some reason I had it set where killing a guard would turn him into hitler and run the death sequence where he melts/explodes.
Luckily the source I found does not have this issue and seems to be working very well, even better news is that it is definitely possible to emulate the OPL2 chip in realtime on the Arm7!
The next build will have support for music and not require any external conversion tools!
I have also fixed the color issue so things no longer look off or washed out.
However, once I get it to a point where I'm satisfied there will be no more changes to that specific port.
Too many hacks were made and I have lost track.
Currently I'm looking into Wolf4SDL as a new porting possibility.
Keep an eye out though, hopefully soon all versions of wolf3d will be supported.
Or, at least the registered and shareware versions of wolf3d and spear of destiny.
great news for fans of FPS games on the DS
