At last, the long-awaited English translation for Rockman EXE 4.5: Real Operation, also known as Mega Man Battle Network 4.5, is finished!
Released in mid 2004, Rockman EXE 4.5 is a quirky spin-off of the Mega Man Battle Network series, made to tie in with the real-life BattleChip Gate peripheral for the GBA. Instead of the player controlling MegaMan directly, he moves and attacks by himself, while the player sends commands and chips for him to use. A large number of other Navis from the series are also playable.
A few attempts to translate the game had been made before, with the first project starting all the way back in 2006. However, the vast amount of text in the game and lack of available translators marred efforts. It wasn’t until a few years ago that one project led by fan community The Rockman EXE Zone truly got off the ground, and produced the English patch that has been released now.
The translation for Rockman EXE 4.5 translates 100% of all text and images in the game, while also fixing bugs in the game and adding some new features to reduce the game’s reliance on the BattleChip Gate. The team has also translated the game’s manual and an interview with the game’s developers, which can be downloaded from the translators’ website.

Since the new 'red box' Mariko units appeared, people have been asking when will it be possible to run CFW on it, well today MaxConsole was in touch with trusted TX reseller, that been given some advance news on a new solution that is coming soon, and that it infact works on all new Switch models, not just the 'patched' ones, but even the 'mariko', and 'lite' models as well, see below what they mentioned: TX has recently taken the time to demonstrate to us some of their Work-In-Progress. Notably for 'patched' and 'mariko' units which is very advanced, and works flawlessly. We were not given a firm date or prices yet, but knowing TX we know the price will be very reasonable. We also saw early beta for Switch Lite console as well.
So that above is great news, and we will have more in the coming weeks, as we have requested to get an early sample from the trusted TX reseller, so that we can share more info with our loyal readers, on how TX's new solution works and what is involved and pics of course!

The Nintendo Switch is edging closer to its Chinese release as a key first-party title has been approved by the government's regulator.
Seeking Alpha reports the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television has granted Tencent the rights to publish New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe for Switch in China.
This was backed up by Twitter user @ChineseNintendo, which shares news from the region. The account confirms the government has approved of Mario's release in China and that the company handling it will be Tencent not Nintendo or the platform holder's established distributor iQue.
The leading Chinese publisher previously won approval on a test version back in April, when it first established a relationship with Nintendo that will see the latter's best-selling console officially released in Mainland China.
There is no concrete data set for this launch as of yet -- the last major news from both firms was in August and detailed how Tencent will be localising Nintendo's games for the local market. With a Mario title now approved, that's one less barrier preventing the two firms from launching the console.
The Nintendo titles heading to China have been caught in the backlog caused by last year's big freeze on new game approvals, a measure the government took while restructuring the regulator responsible for video games and other media.

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima version 5.12f is finally out! It has been quite a journey creating and updating this hack, however, it has finally arrived at the end in its final form.
Originally, about a year ago, this project began as an addendum to the vanilla game: FF2SNES. The idea was to make a few polish here and there, and reuse some of the empty space and dummied out contents in the rom to create some meaningful and new weapons/spells/gears to spice up the core FF4 experience. However, as time went by, with the combination of new ideas that kept popping up and suggestions from many players of this hack, more and more goodies was added to the hack to a point where Final Fantasy IV - Ultima had become its own personality. In its final form, not only has the hack been treated with new goodies and a few extra endgame additions as it did back in v1.0, but it is now loaded with a ton of extra content such as new side-quests, new scenarios, new weapons and much much more throughout the entire game from start to finish…plus a fairly good sized endgame adventure in addition as well. Here are a few notable features of this hack:
- 32 New Weapons! 21 New Spells! 20 New Bosses!!
- Fully Detailed Equipment Screen!
- New Attack Animation that scales to your Power!
- Dual-Wielding Dark Knight Cecil!
- New Side-Quests! New Events! New Endgame Scenarios!!
Barring any bug fixes or polish updates, this should be the FINAL VERSION of Final Fantasy IV - Ultima. So if you haven’t already, do give it a download and check it out! Hope you’ll all enjoy this hack immensely and feel free to reach out if you have any questions and/or comments! Cheers!!

melonDSi beta is released. melonDSi is able to boot DS-mode games from the DSi menu. They currently run with the DS-mode BIOSes and backwards-compatible touchscreen mode, but at the 133MHz clock speed and with 16MB of RAM. melonDS is an open source Nintendo DS(NDS) emulator. melonDS is part of a second wave of DS emulators. There are a few other emulator projects that are part of it, which you might have already heard of. Either way, check them out!
How to use melonDSi
BE SURE TO READ THIS BEFORE USING MELONDSI. You are using a beta release, provided with zero polishing and with a debug console. I expect that you know what you are doing to atleast some extent.
melonDSi will require several files to be dumped from a DSi. It's a bit messy right now, but we hope to come up with more user-friendly solutions in the future.
So, if you have a DSi, you might want to install unlaunch on it.
A quick rundown of the files melonDSi requires:
* bios9.bin / bios7.bin: DS-mode BIOS images. Those are the same as the ones from a DS. They shouldn't be required to get DSi software running, but melonDSi will refuse to start if they aren't present.
* bios9i.bin / bios7i.bin: DSi-mode BIOS images. Those can be dumped from your DSi using the good ol' dsbf_dump.nds.
* firmware.bin: SPI FLASH image. See above. dsbf_dump.bin yields a 'FWxxxxxx.bin' file which you need to rename. It should be 128K.
* dsikeys.bin: AES keys at boot time, dumpable using dsidumper.
* initmem9.bin / initmem7.bin: Boot-time contents of ARM9 ITCM and ARM7 WRAM, containing several other useful keys. See above.
* nand.bin: DSi NAND image, ideally dumped with fwTool. This should be dumped from the same console as dsikeys.bin and initmem9/7.bin.
BEFORE STARTING
Make sure that your DSi-mode ARM7 BIOS is good. Open bios7i.bin in a hex editor. Ensure that the first 32 bytes are the following:
06 00 00 EA 06 00 00 EA 1F 00 00 EA 04 00 00 EA
03 00 00 EA FE FF FF EA 13 00 00 EA 00 00 00 EA
Make sure that your NAND dump has the 'nocash footer' at the end. Open it in a hex editor and check that it has the string 'DSi eMMC CID/CPU' at offset 0xF000000. This is the beginning of the 64-byte 'nocash footer', which holds the eMMC CID and console ID.
Ideally make sure that direct boot is disabled.
Using melonDSi
As with regular melonDS, System->Run will boot the firmware, which should land you into the DSi menu if you did everything right.
You will need to recalibrate the touchscreen through the system settings app to have it work correctly.
melonDSi can boot some DSi-mode apps, but they currently don't work that well.
Booting games
melonDSi is able to boot DS-mode games from the DSi menu. They currently run with the DS-mode BIOSes and backwards-compatible touchscreen mode, but at the 133MHz clock speed and with 16MB of RAM.
DSi-enhanced games do not boot yet.
Direct boot is likely to break things as it hasn't been updated yet.
Other issues
Do not attempt using savestates, they can and will go wrong.
melonDSi is based on melonDS 0.8.1, so it will have the bugs present in that version.

bsnes v112 is released. bsnes is an emulator for the Super Famicom and SNES video game systems. The purpose of the emulator is a bit different from other emulators: it focuses on accuracy, debugging functionality, and clean code.

fixed two small sprite issues affecting Star Ocean with the accurate PPU
added deterministic rewind support; rewind is now 100% safe when enabled

Thanks to the Switch being fully hacked early in its life, it received a ton of interest from the homebrew community and this time, we have SysDVR by Exelix11.
As its name suggests, this is a system module (similar to a plugin in PSP/Vita jargon) that allows you to stream your Switch’s screen to a PC allowing for gameplay recording without a capture card!
As of right now, there are two versions of the system module with one allowing for streaming via USB and the other via a network (TCP) although for best results the former should be used. From its README, these are some important points relating to SysDVR:
- It can only record the screen at 720p30 with H264 compression (this is a hardware limit)
- Audio is also streamed in 16bit PCM format @ 48kHz stereo
- It requires FW 6.0.0 and only works in games that have video recording enabled
- Unlike udcd_uvc, a PC streaming plugin for the PSVita, this plugin doesn’t allow you to stream the System UI, home menu or homebrews running as an applet
- There’s around a 1 second delay for now so don’t expect to be able to play Switch games perfectly on your laptop’s screen when you’re on the go
- USB streaming only works in handheld mode
To grab SysDVR and get cheap capture card functionality for free, follow this link and make sure you read the instructions found in the README!

While Dark Souls has been around since 2011, it still has a decent following and the Switch got a remastered port of it in 2018. As with many popular titles, individuals online created various mods for Dark Souls Remastered (the version of Dark Souls available on the Switch) and a popular one of these is the Ascension Mod by vanbuinen which introduces new enemy types, locations and more. Now, this mod which was previously only available for the PC has been ported to hacked Switch consoles thanks to GBATemp user maxx488.
According to the port’s GBATemp thread, installation is pretty straightforward and only involves placing files in /(sxos//atmosphere)/titles/01004AB00A260000/romfs. However, it’s important to note that the mod file is around 3.2GB large so don’t attempt to download it over cellular data (unless you have an ulimited supply)!
To grab the mod, follow this link. You’ll need to create an account in order to download it. Due to space constraints on game cartridges, CD Projekt compressed the game’s audio files but thanks to this mod, PC-quality audio can be achieved with a few clicks! (Image Source)
Switching focus to the just-ported Witcher 3, Cirosan on Twitter has come up with a way to get PC audio on the Switch port without any performance degradation. His method involves:
- Having a copy of Witcher 3 on your PC (he uses the GOG version of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY but non-GOTY editions work as well)
- Downloading a BAT script and running it in the installation directory of the game
- After the BAT script is done, a 4GB file will be generated inside a newly-created folder called ‘atmosphere’
- Copy this folder to your Switch and merge it with the existing folder if needed (if you’re running ReiNX/SX OS, change the folder’s name accordingly)
As of right now, the mod only works with English audio but Cirosan will add German and French support provided there’s enough demand along with Japanese/Russian support although this will take a longer time.
To get PC-quality audio in Witcher 3 on your Switch, follow this Twitter thread explaining the installation method while providing the download links for the BAT files.

With Android, one can turn their Nintendo Switch into a general purpose tablet thus breaking away from the limitations imposed by Horizon OS. As a result, there’s a good deal of interest in the Android port for the console and the folks at Switchroot are still working on making the experience better.
From some recently posted tweets, the Switchroot Team have made significant forays into the deep sleep and auto-rotation areas which were previously a tad problematic. As per the available information, auto-rotation is working well and deep-sleep (lp0) lets you wake up from sleep but some bugs need to be fixed before it can be labelled as fully functional. Other than this excellent news, Switchroot is also working on the next release of Android for the Switch which they said will most likely be based on Android Q rather than Android Pie thanks to the former’s better joycon support.
To get information as it lands relating to Android on the Switch, it’s recommended to follow Switchroot’s Twitter account by following this link.

The guys at Mega Cat Studios have a new game in the pipe. The Meating will come to a NES near you sometime in the future. The story is also a bit odd… but well, why not.
Become a ghost minotaur on the quest to put his meat back together in this puzzle platformer. Use pyrokinesis, possession and an array of other ghost skills to solve puzzles, and the mystery of who butchered you.

The long awaited NES Ghostbusters hack is here! Version 1.0 was released on October 4th, 2019. After hearing a lot of user feedback, fixes and improvements have been made in version 1.1. Be sure to check it out!
Most importantly, a cheat code has been added to allow the player to start with $10k in savings, to get accostumed with the new game design. The original game’s city map and ghost catching aspect was completely pointless and nearly impossible to get a gameover on. The only challenge was the staircase, with its terrible controls. Players would rely on a glitch to get 255 lives and beat the level, reaching the even more broken fight with Gozer.
This hack fixes and rebalances everything to make a real game out of it. So, though it may look like it is the same, it does not play like the original game at all. Thinking so could be frustrating, so keep these points in mind while playing:
- Your main and only goal is to enter the Zuul building before PKE reaches 9999. For this you need to regularly stop and catch roaming ghosts, as they greatly increase the PKE meter if they reach the building!
- After you have enough money for a beam and the anti-ghost suit you can enter the Zuul building, but buying the ghost food and the sound generator is advisable.
- The hyper beam doubles the amount of money acquired from catching ghosts on buildings! But depending on your strategy you may want to keep the regular capture beam.
- Same goes for the ghost alarm and the super trap. They may or may not be worth it depending on the play style!

The Nintendo Switch has sold a total of 15 million units in North America alone since its launch in March 2017.
This number includes both the regular Nintendo Switch as well as the Nintendo Switch Lite, which launched just last month. Unit sales are up over 20% year-to-date as of the end of September.
A total of 14 Nintendo Switch games have sold over one million units, and four have sold over six million: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Super Mario Odyssey.
So far, Nintendo has sold nearly 37 million units of Nintendo Switch hardware worldwide by last count (though the company's IR site hasn't been updated with this total since July), and just surpassed 10 million unit sales in Europe earlier this month. Nintendo originally set sales targets for the console at 38 million units by March 2019, but missed its projections at the time.

Retro hardware maker Analogue is readying its first portable system. But unlike its efforts based on the NES, Super Nintendo, and Genesis, the Analogue Pocket will cover multiple systems.
Set for release in 2020, the Analogue Pocket will play Game Boy, Game Boy, Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges out of the box. With a variety of adapters sold separately, the system will play games from the Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and Atari Lynx.
As with previous Analogue systems, the company is promising no emulation. The system will include two FPGA hardware chips, with the second one a dedicated chip to support third-party development.
