Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl will bring dungeon-crawling anime cartography to the 3DS sometime this fall, Atlus announced this morning. When it launches, this semi-remake of the original Etrian Odyssey will be available in both physical and digital flavors, the later provided through the 3DS eShop.
The game's Story mode, which features voice acting and animated cutscenes created by the folks who handled those duties for Persona 4 Golden andPersona 4 Arena, is a first for the franchise. Likewise, the new "Grimoire Stone" system forgoes class skill limitations found in previous entries by allowing players to assign skills and create hybridized characters themselves.
Meanwhile, Classic mode is an updated, 3D version of the original Etrian Odyssey, enhanced with the Grimoire Stone system and made flexible by three new difficulty modes: Picnic, Standard and Expert.

If you had big plans for Nintendo's forthcoming Wii Fit U, which was scheduled to come in the first half of 2013, you'd better put them on hold. The company's president, Satoru Iwata just said during its E3 presentation that the game will be delayed until December of this year in order to "create new features" and bring "as high quality a gaming experience as possible." That includes the game's Fit Meter pedometer, which will eventually track your movements in over 77 game-based activities. Fortunately, if plain old exercise just won't do, there's lots of other options.

This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo might be all about the next generation of gaming hardware, but not in Hyperkin's E3 booth: these guys are looking backwards. We dropped by to check out the Retron 5, the outfit's latest machine to traverse the library of older gaming titles. All told, this iteration strolls through half a dozen hardware cycles, offering compatibility for a full nine video game systems. It's more than a simple hardware emulator, however -- this machine offers save states, cheats and visual filters too.

Are the Super Nintendo gamepad's smoothly curved edges just too darn comfortable for your palms? You might want to check out Hyperkin's Pixel Art controller, an SNES-inspired USB controller rendered in the style of its time. Hyperkin quietly unveiled it on the E3 show floor, scattering boxed prototypes throughout its booth. Despite our jest, it's actually quite comfortable to hold and use, and feels very much like a brand new SNES pad.
Unfortunately for retro gaming die-hards, this gamepad won't actually work on your classic game console -- the SNES compatible version of the product was nixed when the team decided to make it a Bluetooth gamepad instead. A bummer for some, but the design is still a hoot. Hyperkin didn't have a price for us, but the pixel-obsessed should be able to pick up the USB model of the gamepad (in eight colors!) later this summer, followed by a wireless version in the fall.

The next entry in Mario Kart will be available for Wii U early next year.
Nintendo introduced Mario Kart 8 as part of today's E3 Nintendo Direct. It will be released in Spring 2014.
Following on from Mario Kart 7, the racer will allow players to go underwater and fly through the sky at certain parts in each course.
It will also feature sections where you can defy gravity and drive up vertical walls or along the ceiling.
The usual mash of racing and weapons is still present, and this will be the first time the series has been seen in HD.

Following the success of Donkey Kong Country Returns, Nintendo is rolling out a new version for Wii U.
The game will be the first HD entry in the series and retains the classic 2D platforming style of the previous title – although the camera angle will now move around the action at certain points.
Co-op gameplay also returns, with Donkey and Diddy Kong now joined by Dixie Kong, who has her own unique abilities.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze will be released later this year at both retail and in the Nintendo eShop.

Wii U fans will have to wait until next year to get their hands on Platinum Games’ Bayonetta 2.
The news was broken by Nintendo boss Saturo Iwata in this afternoon’s E3 Nintendo Direct broadcast.
A video shown this afternoon looked more than a little reminiscent of the first Bayonetta game, albeit with new costumes and what appeared to be new attacks.
Iwata also talked a lot about Bayonetta’s new short hair, which the Nintendo president seemed to find quite fascinating.
We were also treated to some gameplay footage, which looked suitably bonkers.

The first 3DS outing for the Pokémon series will arrive on October 12th.
Handheld duo Pokémon X and Y opened Nintendo's E3 edition of Nintendo Direct, with new footages showing off the games' additional features.
Chief among these is the addition of the new Fairy type, which is strong against Dragon Pokémon.
The games will also feature a mini-game called Pokémon-amie, a Nintendogs-style pet simulator that lets players take care of their pocket monsters. 3DS owners will need to tend to their creatures, and mimic their movements to keep them happy.

Longtime Sonic the Hedgehog series collaborator Dimps is developing the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic: Lost World, Sonic Team's Takashi Iizuka revealed in an interview with IGN this week.
Iizuka notes that Sonic: Lost World features unique content on the Nintendo 3DS. Though it shares similar settings with its Wii U counterpart, level layouts are entirely different in order "to match the screen size and hardware so players can enjoy both versions with a fresh feeling," Iizuka said.
The 3DS version also boasts an exclusive versus mode for up to four players, along with features that can be unlocked by linking with the Wii U edition.
Dimps previously tackled the Sonic Rush series on the Nintendo DS, andworked with Sonic Team to produce both episodes of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The company was also responsible for the portable versions of Sonic Colorsand Sonic Generations.

Nintendo's forthcoming 3DS sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Pastmay be one of the smoothest-running game to ever grace the handheld – at least as far as its performance in 3D mode is concerned – due to its ability to run at 60 frames-per-second with 3D switched on, Zelda series veteran Eiji Aonuma told EDGE.
"The game runs at 60fps, while all the 3D games up till now have run at 30fps," Aonuma said. "The faster the framerate, the more stable the 3D effect, so 60fps is a big deal." Aonuma also mentioned that the game will not take advantage of the 3DS' gyroscopic capabilities, as requiring the player to tilt the 3DS could break the screen's required viewing angle.

Best Buy is the next big retailer sending back its Wii U Basic units to Nintendo.Nintendo World Report has an image pulled from Best Buy's internal system stating "stores should pull all new in box [Wii U Basic] units and send them back" starting tomorrow. It also notes that stores should see more Wii U Deluxe units arrive in the coming weeks.
GameStop is also currently going through a similar send-back of the Wii U Basic.
Nintendo previously stated any notion of a recall of the Wii U Basic is a "misperception" and that the company is "working with its retail partners to simply rebalance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market." The House of Mario claims consumers will be able to continue purchasing both models. The Wii U has struggled since launch, with the regular Wii outperforming its progeny.
