Some Gamecube news from Lik Sang [br][br] Gamespot had the scoop yesterday about Nintendo Of Japan's upcoming W-Pack series. It is common in Japan to use W as the sign for "double", meaning that W-Pack actually reads Double Pack. As the name says it, the collection features Nintendo's best-selling and most acclaimed games packed by pairs. The attractive price tag on the combo is the good news as most the W-Packs will retail for only US$ 74.90, preorders being taken right away. The only exception to that price level is the Pikmin & Pikmin 2 duet as the set will feature a special bonus: five mini figurines based on Pikmin characters. A cool little edition selling for US$ 84.90 only.

Nintendo gaming genius Shigerui Miyamoto has revealed that the new DS handheld console could connect to the Internet via its wireless LAN connector, although it will require special third-party software to do so.[br]Speaking in a candid interview with Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi's website, Miyamoto-san said, "We added the wireless LAN to the DS mainly for the consoles to communicate between each other. But if someone releases software that allows it to connect to wireless LAN access points, it could also be used to connect to the Internet."[br][br]A DS which could be use surf and email as well as playing games on the 'Net? Ding, Donkey Kong! [br][br]It certainly sounds like a welcome addition and would certainly add to the DS's already innovative feature set.[br][br]However, Miyamoto-san hastened to add that this is not something Nintendo is considering developing itself, as it wishes the DS to be a dedicated, standalone games unit. "The one thing we don't want to do is to add this and that and every other connection . We want to make the DS enjoyable on its own, as far as we can," he added.[br][br]But it certainly sounds like a worthwhile venture and we're pretty sure it'll have plenty of development companies pricking up their ears ready to explore the possibilities.[br][br]More on this one as it breaks.

Built to replace the N64, the GameCube is Nintendo's main contender and was launched in Japan in September 2001.
It hit British shelves in May 2002 and sold 1 million in 11 weeks.
The console is cube-shaped and some people say the graphics are even better than the PS2.
At £79 it's the cheapest of the main three consoles.
There's no DVD playback with the current model. Internet gaming is possible but with a separate adaptor.
There's a wireless control pad available too and gamers can connect to the GameBoy Advance.
Nintendo say their strength is the power to connect their portables and consoles together.

Hey,
I know you can get those cartriges with memory on them that allow you to play GBA ROMS on your GBA (incidentally - what are those called?)
I was wondering though... is there any way to put an SNES ROM on one of those, and play it on the GBA? I realize there would be keymapping problems... But perhaps someone out there has developed a program for this purpose...
Any help would be greatly appreciated... I'd love to be able to play Chrono Trigger and FF6 on my GBA =D

ive always been an avid hater of nintendo and i hate them now for the same reason i hated them 10 and 15 years ago. and why is this?
1. games are always for kids
2. they rerelease the same games every year such as mario, zelda etc.
3. when they release a new console their exciting line up includes none other than......mario and zelda.

Comments made in a Japanese newspaper by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata indicate that the company is planning to continue to sell the GameCube hardware well into the lifespan of its next-generation console, codenamed "Revolution."[br][br]Iwata told Yomiuri Shimbun that Nintendo may well sell the "Revolution" device alongside the GameCube hardware for quite some time - presumably hoping to follow in the footsteps of Sony, which continued to sell large volumes of the PSone long after the launch of the PS2.[br][br]However, it's not clear whether Iwata's comments represent a commitment from the company to continue developing new software for the GameCube into the next console cycle, or simply an intention to continue supplying the channel with new units for as long as they are required.[br][br]The "Revolution" system, which is Nintendo's next home console, will be unveiled at E3 next May in Los Angeles, and is expected to launch in 2006 - although the E3 unveiling could equally indicate a late 2005 launch in Japan.[br][br]Nintendo has pledged that "Revolution" will mark a genuine departure from traditional home consoles, with a focus not only on increased processing and graphical prowess but on new ways of interacting with the system and new forms of gameplay.

The GameCube console has seen its market share of the European hardware market doubling to 32 per cent following the launch of Pokemon Colosseum on the platform - proof, claims Nintendo, that the Pokemon franchise is still alive and well.[br][br]Pokemon Colosseum, the first fully 3D home console adventure game to be launched in the franchise, has been the single largest Cube release of the year to date in Europe, and is sold both as a standalone game (with a free memory card) and as a bundle with the GameCube console and a number of accessories.[br][br]While sales of all of the consoles are influenced to some extent by the launch of key software titles, this is especially true for the GameCube - not least because with its 99 Euro price point, the console is a possible impulse purchase for consumers.[br][br]The 32 per cent figure quoted for market share in Europe belies the fact that the platform has seen its fortunes vary significantly across the major European territories; while it is in third place in the UK, where the Xbox has a major lead over it in installed base terms, it has beaten off competition from Microsoft's console in both France and Germany, while in Spain and Italy neither console has managed to make much headway against the PS2.[br][br]The Pokemon franchise has generated some 25 million unit sales of games in Europe to date, with last year's Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire titles on the GBA selling 3.3 million units in the region. Two further GBA titles, Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green, are due to launch in Europe in the coming months.
