Nintendo has released Wii U system update 4.0.2.
The company says the update makes "further improvements to overall system stability" while "other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience". An upcoming 3DS firmware update will allow customers to tie their accounts with the Wii U, meaning that digital currency can be deposited and spent through either system.
Due in December, the software update will allow 3DS users to sign into their Nintendo Network ID via the handheld. If users already have an active Nintendo Network ID on their Wii U, these will combine together.
The update will also bring another long-awaited feature to 3DS in the form of Miiverse. Users will be able to post comments and sketches via their 3DS, with the messages appearing on both handheld and home consoles.
Since Wii U's release in November 2012, dedicated fans have urged Nintendo to fuse the console's online network with the 3DS, much in the way Sony has with PS3 and Vita.
