Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot has pledged to continue supporting Wii U but believes the system must perform better to draw more investment.
"We think Wii U is a great machine. But it just has to sell more," Guillemot told
MCV.The experienced publishing executive revealed that the company's upcoming cross-generation title, Watch Dogs, is being developed for Wii U with an expanded development team following an impressive unveiling at E3 2012."E3 was a great revelation for Watch Dogs," Guillemot said. "It gave us a chance to increase the whole project, giving the studio the chance to have bigger teams to help them achieve this goal they have. You always have great ideas, but you need enough people to bring it to life. After E3, we really made sure they had all the teams they needed and all the capacity they wanted to fulfil their dream."Ubisoft recently triggered controversy by announcing that Rayman Legends, previously a title exclusive to Wii U, would be released for all current gen consoles in September.In January Nintendo slashed its Wii U sales forecast and admitted that there is a lack of sales momentum with the system.Wii U accounted for about 1.6 per cent of UK game sales in January, while it has been reported that the console sold "well under" 100,000 units the US during the same month.
