Satoru Iwata has announced plans to bring the DS, and Wii to Korea. The DS Lite will be hitting Korean streets very soon, launching on January 18th. This is the first time Nintendo will be releasing a Korean-language console.
Korea has a massive online gaming market right now, but Nintendo doesn’t have any big plans to compete in that arena. Mr. Iwata stated that he is just looking to release the DS at first, and create a new entertainment culture in the country. Time will tell if the Koreans will be interested in what the DS has to offer.
Koreans can expect the Wii late next year…
“We will begin sales after localization is complete. We plan to actively support Korean game software developers who have great expertise in developing online games and support their advances into foreign markets.” - Satoru Iwata
Nintendo has also begun to develop games with Korean game developer Nexon. No futher details were released at this time.
