80% of Wii U's worldwide connected to the internet
Nintendo has achieved a record high number of downloads during the last fiscal year.
Speaking on its latest annual report, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said digital sales from its various platforms had doubled on the previous year, generating £104 million.
Iwata noted the deployment of add-on content, sales and titles such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf as the reason for the hike in digital downloads.
The amount of revenue generated through digital sales was also more than £25 million higher than the previous record year in 2010, in which Nintendo accrued £78m.
As well as record sales, the 3DS also broke Nintendo handheld records with an 87 per cent internet connection rate in Japan and 83 per cent in the US, with the number of connected devices continuing to rise.
